I know with Sprint you can pay a monthly fee and call cheaper to the UK as well. Txt's are .15 each, but I believe they have plans that you can get where you pay so much for a certain amount of txt's a month? When I called them up to ask how much international txt's were they tried to sell me on this 300 txt a month plan that you can add onto your bill.

I am definately getting vonage when my fiance moves here so that we can get a local access number for parents to call us, and we will be able to call them as much as we want :). Hopefully we can find a cheap highspeed internet though  Nothing like charging us loads here.

Hey all,

Just a quick question, my fiance has his medical tomorrow at London. I just wanted to know to be safe, do they take credit/debit cards there? I would assume they do, but I don't know if they take his kind like just Visa or Mastercard for example? I wanted to make sure he knew if he needed to get cash out of the machine or something.

I'm probably just being paranoid! haha..

United KingdomThis is the waiting for packet 4 thread.
I have a quick question about this whole cover letter thing. Do you think it would help in my case where we are afraid we will have the interview too soon? We are not wanting to get married until next December, and my fiance doesn't want to come here until after October 13th (His sister is getting married). We can't really have an interview until the end of April or beginning of May if he wants to stay that long. We just got packet 3 the other day and are stressing about trying to hold it too long. We still have to apply for the police certificate and everything, so I know it's possible to hold it a bit, but not for 3 1/2 months.

And by the way, how can you guys afford to go shopping there? So expensive with exchange rates! I was just in England for a month and brought back like nothing, aside from loads of chocolate. Mmm.

Our NOA2 had actually expired in like April so we were going to have to sent new letters of intent anyway. I really hope it's that easy. I was just looking at the price increases for reapplying :S $455. Ouch.

So... I posted this on the k-2 board and got no response, so I hope you guys can help me out instead.

I have a quick question to ask on here,

My fiance and I applied for a fiance visa back in October of last year. We were scheduled to have the interview June 18th at the embassy in London. We had a rough patch there for a few months, and decided it was best to wait a while and he cancelled the interview at the embassy. Did that cancel out our entire petition? He said that the email he got basically said to phone the embassy whenever he was ready to reschedule. I know his police report and medical are good for a year so reapplying isn't really a big issue except for the price increase in actually doing that. haha. We never did anything state-side though. I'm not sure if I was supposed to contact anyone here to actually cancel it completely or if him calling the embassy was enough to do that?

I hope someone can help out here - kind of an odd situation...

What's DOS?

Good to know there is a number I can call from here, but $16 flat rate... Ewww.

If I have my LND case number should I be able to just email them? My fiance said he tried that once and got an email back saying they deleted the emails immediately that he had sent them? That you have to phone them to get a number as a reference so they won't delete your email?!

Hmm. I will try that then. Thanks :)

Nov or Dec wouldn't be bad either, I was just sort of hoping for him to be here for Christmas :) This is US year. haha. We go back and forth each year for Christmas, and I was there last year. Plus he goes home late Sept and i'm going over the 2nd week of October for his sister's wedding, so I was kind of hoping he could come back with me.

Kinda stinks you can't call from here, but I guess they wouldn't be able to charge you for the call if they did that. Bah. Scrooges.

Hey all,

I know its major expensive to call the embassy - but should I be able to do so from here in the US? My fiance and I want to schedule the interview, we're hoping for a late October or early Nov interview, but he's here right now and doesn't go home until the end of September. If you didn't read my previous post, we cancelled the interview we had scheduled back in June, and instead of reapplying for the visa we are going to try to just reschedule the interview. Anyone know how long they are running on scheduling right now?
Thanks in advance.

Hey everyone,

Just thought i'd update and let you know that we emailed the embassy and have rescheduled our interview. Don't know the exact date yet, they said they would mail a letter to his house with the date, so it sounds like they're remailing a p4? lol. But yey, they are going to let us reschedule instead of reapply!!

Now I just have to get the support documents done before he goes back home, and hopefully we'll get an interview in late october early Nov so he can be here for Christmas and we can get on with our lives!

We got back the letter in the mail. New interview date is set for October 1, 9:00am!

yey! Also kind of not yey, because he goes home Sept 27th then has his interview a few days right after he gets home.

Wish us the best!

ummm. I think I can get a copy of mine, but my mom is in Mexico right now. Will they not approve it, or will it be pending the additional information? I mean... the letter from her employer should be enough to prove how much she makes in my opinion. She makes way more than is necessary, so I don't really think we'll have any problems with it?

Edit: I forgot to metion I also have letters from the bank for me and my mom (they are dated back in March when I got them) that state how much we've put in the bank in the last year, how much we currently had, and how long our account had been with them etc.

Hey all,
I wanted to make sure i'm not forgetting anything for the interview.

I have all copies of the original packet sent for the 1-129. I have also added, my passport (i've gotten a new one since, so i'm sending the one with the stamps in it where i've been to England). I'm also sending a log of all the emails i've sent him, and all the emails he's sent me. I am going to send new evidence, where I went over in December, (pics - flight details etc), and where he came over here in July (flight details, passport stamps). I have the 1-134 filled out and notarized, by me and my co-sponsor (my mom), I have 3 recent paystubs from my old job (I started a new one this week, so I can't really get anything from them yet). I have a letter from my co-sponsors employer with her salary listed on it. Updated letters of intent, signed by me and my fiance, both notarized. I have letters in there he's sent me, as well as cards that i've received from his family for holidays (birthday, Christmas etc). He is going to check when he gets home to see if we still have Christmas cards his family sent us last year saying to you and your fiancee lol. Other then that, am I forgetting anything? he goes home today and is taking my binder of information with him, just want to make sure we're not forgetting anything smile.gif

Just writing to tell you all that my fiance had his interview today. All went well, he was only there for a total of about an hour and he said they asked hardly any questions at all. Only thing being is, he didn't have his police report. He is pretty sure he sent it in with the forms, and he said he thought they sent it back, but he can't find it. Sadly, I think we're going to have to apply for another one. He's approved on the condition of that form being sent in. It has been nearly 8 months since getting it, so it's untelling what's happened to it by now. yey for being pretty much approved I guess, but boo on having to wait another 40 days to get a new police certificate.

I think i'm going to lose my mind! We did try to explain the situation, but they said since it had been longer than 6 months since we got the last one, he had to reapply and wait the 40 days. I don't see why it takes 40 days to get a stupid piece of paper that says he's done nothing wrong. He's not a criminal but they sure treat him like one! What's that saying "Guilty until proven innocent?" In the US, you can get a police report SAME DAY! And the UK is much smaller than the US.

Quick question. My fiance got ahold of couriers today, because he got his police report. The embassy told him it would be 1-2 days for him to get his visa back after they picked up his information. United KingdomSilly Christmas Question
Hey all. This is going to be a silly question, and i'm sure I could look it up online somewhere, i'm just not sure where to look. My fiance and I wanted to get my soon to be MIL a nice set of kitchen knives for Christmas. Would that be restricted to send USPS to the UK? I know they ask you if you have any dangerous items etc, but I think they're looking more for firearms that type of thing. I was looking on like argos, marks and such to find sets, but the sets there don't seem to be as nice as what you can get here a lot cheaper. I'd rather pay less here, and spend the money shipping it to get an overall better item. I was even looking on Amazon because I know you can send international on there, but everytime i'd put a nice set in the basket it'd tell me it was restricted (ex. Chicago cutlery, Henckles etc) but when i'd put a ####### set (ginsu) it'd act like I could send it? It made no sense!!

I'm going a bit on the crazy side because I also contacted Bed bath and beyond per their website it says to dial this number for international orders... I did, a guy picks up, I say to him "Hi, I was just wondering if I could get a quote on how much it would cost to ship something to the UK?" he says "ma'am. I have NO clue!" and hung up on me!! No i'm sorry, bye... Just hung up! Some good customer service! I hate how rude people are this time of the year!!

Kind of random. When he called they told him they hadn't even gotten his p3 (this was at the end of April) the lady said it could take up to 4 weeks to get into their P.O.Box. I think they kind of set us aside because we put we weren't getting married until December. haha.

Hey everyone,

Can someone please tell me the easiest way to send money to the UK? My husband's little sister just had her birthday and Christmas is coming up, we wanted to send her some cash to go toward driving lessons. Unfortunately it seems that it's a lot harder to do than we thought it would be. I was going to do international money order, but according to the post office England/UK is not a country that accepts money orders? I've looked into western union but it's like $15, and we were only planning on sending about $75, so it seems foolish to pay that much. We aren't able to find anywhere who can exchange money. His sister doesn't have paypal. I even looked into international travelers checks but those have a $15 processing fee and like $12.95 to ship. I feel like i'm at a total loss on what to do? Anyone able to tell me anything cheaper, or a place where I could get money exchanged? I've already asked my bank and she looked at me like I had 3 heads when I said I wanted to exchange some money. Thanks.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAffidavit of support
Hey all,

I haven't been on here in a while, but I had a quick question. With the affidavit of support, does the person petitioning have to be the supporter? I thought you could get a sponsor, but someone I know told me that the embassy told her that you are no longer allowed to have sponsors that you have to show you can support them yourself. This will be a major problem for me as i'm a student and do not make the required amount. I wanted my parents to sponsor him coming here. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I would agree that you should probably tell them, they might get suspicious if his answers don't match what's on the paperwork that you sent in. Having said that he should have a copy of that information as well. Maybe someone else can say a little more toward that. Hope the best for you :)

Hmm. I wouldn't worry about it too much. It might be something as simple as the medical results or background checks haven't come back yet. Some consulates also don't give you the visa when you go in for the interview, i'm not sure if manila is one of those or not.

I think it depends on how quickly you get back your background check and medical exams. If everything checks out it shouldn't be long. Someone will correct me here if i'm wrong, but I believe you can actually get the visa same day? Not 100% certain on that though.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionco-sponsor
Hey all,

With the delight of my recent touch on my case (Seeing at least something has been done after two months at CSC) I have started to think more about the later parts of trying to get this visa. With that comes the part about the affidavit of support.

Alright, so.. i'm a full-time student. I used to have a full-time job making, probably very close to the poverty guidelines, but the place I worked closed. Right now i'm getting unemployment, which is beans. But, i'm going to get a job when I get back to the US - It was too hard to find one with telling people in retail and etc, "oh yeah i'm going to be leaving Dec 9th for a month, will I still have a job when I get back?" Anyway. My income taxes from last year, I didn't make enough money to show I could support even myself I don't think, and my parents still claimed me last year I believe as a depedant.

So, i've asked my Mom to be a co-sponsor. She makes very good money, and has agreed to it. My question is, what does she need to be able to show? I'm sure just showing she makes this amount of money won't be good enough?

And also, will they take it against me how much I have in my bank account? I haven't had a job in nearly 5 months and have refused to get unemployment until now, because I don't like sponging off the governement. I know I have to get a bank statement showing how much i've deposited in my bank in the last year? Maybe that will help my case some, so they can see at one point I did have decent money saved up in there. Although by the time the interview comes, who knows what'll be happening.

Oh, and one last question. I know W2's and all will be coming soon.. It's appearing that we need our interview to be around the end of April, which means tax time will have come and gone... If my fiance gets an interview in like April will I need to show taxes from 2006 as well? I can always file early I suppose if I needed to...

Sorry this is a bit long winded.

Hey all,

I have a few quick questions. Our petition was just approved so I know shortly it will be getting to the consulate in London... My question is, I know after we get packet 3 we have a lot of work to do and it will probably take some time to send it back in. Does london wait until you've sent back your packet 3 before they give you an interview date? And also does anyone know what interview dates they are giving out now? My fiance and I are hoping for a late April early May interview, because his sister is getting married next October and he wants to stay for that, since we only have 6 months to activate the visa we are hoping the interview doesn't come too soon!! Anyone know any ways of kind of extending the time period out some? I know that's backwards from what everyone else is always asking!!

I think all documents in a foreign language must be translated to English. I'm not too sure on the normal police certificate or special confirmations. I think they just want one showing you've never been arrested, or if you have for what reasons, etc. I would try asking on a regional forum on here to see if there are any people from Germany that might know.

Well, you could look up what forms you need for your embassy and start filling those out. You could also apply for the police report because some countries it can take a long time to get back (UK takes up to 40 days). You could also start working on your I-134 evidence of support documents. So yeah, there's quite a bit you can do :)

Hey all. Just a quick question...
Our interview is set for Oct 1st, and i'm working on the evidence of relationship. Do you think sending them printouts of my email account, like a log format instead of each individual email will suffice? I have 1289 emails from him, and it took 39 pages to print out just a log of them all. I intend on having him do the same. I'm a little iffy on what all I should be sending him to the interview with. Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussiontravelling out of country after filing
I also have a similar question, we are actually at the end of our 90 day window I am submitting my husband's lifting conditions hopefully tomorrow (they need them by 1/29/11). However, we are planning a trip to see his family for 2 weeks in March and I doubt we'll have the new greencard by then, is the NOA1 enough since it technically extends his greencard an extra year? By this I mean would we be ok for re-entry into the US with his expired greencard and a NOA1?
