IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWill significant age difference pose a problem in interview date? Please help!

Now this is great, you just made my day! You are absolutely right, we have done well so far so this should give me a little hope.. I'll do just as you suggested with the evidence we'll put together and we'll keep our fingers crossed :) Thanks for the support and I do appreciate your response (F)

Glad to help, girl. We are all in the same boat. I'd freak out if John couldn't be with me. Much love! x

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWill significant age difference pose a problem in interview date? Please help!

Not at all. Since he visits her every3 months, I assume the reason they don't have pictures together is because there is no camera available. On his next visit with the new camera they can take hundreds of pictures and then they will have proof of this legit marriage,

I think you were getting your digs in. So, yeah it kind of was uncalled for.

Photos are good secondary evidence, but in all honesty, good primary evidence proves to the IO that a couple is bonafide. Evidence that puts two individuals in the same places at the same time, together as a couple. Travel plans, receipts. Signed affidavits from family and friends. Kally honey, the good news is, you say you're close to the interview stage, so you've done well so far, right? Just make sure you arm yourself with a good mix of primary and secondary evidence, organize it neatly in a folder, and the IO will go over it with you at your interview. And keep having those good conversations with your husband. The more you know your spouse, the better you'll be at convincing your IO that you are in it for love and not for immigration. Good luck, and I'll be cheering you on. x

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresFalling in Love
What a lovely topic. smile.gif

I fell in love with my fiance (hope you don't mind that hes' not my Hubby yet) because he's very old school ... treats his mother so sweetly, still carries a handkerchief in his pocket, rushes to open doors/carry heavy things for a lady, works hard and tells me I'm beautiful even when my nose is red and I'm hacking into a sick bag (as what happened the last time he was here, LOL). God has blessed me with a good one. heart.gif

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow do you deal with ignorance and prejudice??
Girl ... the way I see it is, they don't pay our bills, so they can just F-off.

A good start would be for your mother to know that you can get the news off the TV; you don't need it from her. Then, keep your marriage strong and loving for any children you may have, as children cannot conceptualize ignorance/prejudice, and a weak foundation will just complicate things further. I myself am biracial, and my childhood was hardly stable, so that impacted the problem. As I got older, I dealt with it myself, to the point where it's now other people's problem, no longer mine.

Keep your head up - sorry that this is something you have to go through during what should be a happy time. rose.gif

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVisiting England

I can't find my dictionary, so I'm unable to look up the definition of PARANOIA, but taking a bunch of paperwork overseas is more than just silly. Next time tell 'em you want to see London and the British Countryside and forget the B.S. with visiting your husband.

I nearly didn't make it past Customs. They want to know the truth, so you tell them. I was the first in line and the last to leave, the questioning was that intense. This was during K-1, and I was frustrated and a bit concerned that they didn't even KNOW what K-1 was when I tried to explain that John was moving out of England, I wasn't trying to move IN.

This is a good thread, and I hope that some of the tips offered here help USC fiances/spouses get into England a lot easier.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMedical in London
Definitely get whatever vacs you can in the U.K., as they're expensive here. If you had chickenpox, make sure that your Varicella history is documented on your DS-3025 (as "VH") at the medical. I mention Varicella in particular because the vac is not available in the U.K., but you need to have documented history of chickenpox for the I-693 once you get to your AOS.

My husband did not have proof that he had chickenpox, so his worksheet was checked as "incomplete" and he had to get a blood titre test here in the U.S. to prove that he had the antibodies in his system. Otherwise, we were looking at $80 and up for a Varicella shot. If you're in the same position, get a blood titre test in the U.K. so that you can have your history documented. You'll save yourself a big headache once you come to the U.S. and get started on your AOS.

Make sure you leave Knightsbridge with a DS-3025 (vaccination worksheet); I've heard of some people never getting one.

Good luck :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresStarting my K-1 visa journey!
An NOA-1 is a great thing, it means our petitions didn't get lost in the mail, LOL! Can you imagine?!!

Hi ellabee! I'm a Feb. 2009 K-1 filer myself! It's been since December 2 since my Honey and I have seen each other and we're past due for a cuddle, so he's coming here in May (I was going to go to him in England, but have to postpone the trip due to work). We agonized over the decision, but ultimately felt that a letter from his employer (stating his employment and intent to return), his mortgage note (he pays the mortgage on his mother's home) and a return ticket will do the trick!

Good luck, congrats on your graduation, and welcome from one newbie to another!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSufficient evidence of having met my fiancée in the past two years?
Maybe see if she's saved her receipts and banking transactions. My fiance sent me signed copies of his ticket stubs and shopping/banking receipts. I highlighted the dates/locations/times and included them in the petition with signed/highlighted copies of mine. Together, our copies put us in the same places simultaneously.

Hope this helps!

If my wife was not such a camera nut, we would have had troubles as I never would have taken the one photo.

LOL!! Reminds me of my John, always wanting to take pictures. I can't tell you how many times I begged him not to take any, but that was before we thought of marriage ... when it came time to submit our petition, omigod was I happy he had been so camera crazy. You just never know!!

To the OP - welcome from another newbie! My suggestion is to include one or two letters from family, etc. who can vouch for having met your fiancée. I included a letter from a coworker who met John, and my sweet mother, who is in love with him (but she can't have him, he's mine! Hahaha).

Hope this helps, and GOOD LUCK!! good.gif

I used paper clips to keep related pages together, then medium binder clips to keep the "sections" together and then one super large binder clip for the entire mess. No holes and each section had a table of contents sheet.

This is exactly what I did. I also washed my hands before handling the petition and duplicate, LOL. I am a total nerd. smile.gif

John and I taped our receipts (his and mine on separate sheets) to 1-2 sheets of paper and made photocopies, then highlighted the dates and locales, and signed each page at the bottom. We just didn't want the person looking at our file to have to go through stacks of paper.

Btw folks, I was kidding about the pouty dance (a sense of humor really is required to get through all of this, right?). I dont think it matters who sends the letter the only key is that the barcoded coversheet be with your documents. So ask your HR Dept to send it with the coversheet it or else just hand it over to you.

Awesome, this solves the dilemma - THANK YOU!! rose.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEmployment Letter - Advice?
My employer won't send me my Letter of Employment for the Affidavit; instead, they insist on sending it directly to the Embassy in London *sigh* - anyone ever heard of this? I work for the big mouse ears ... I wonder if they've done this with others' visa situations (as people from all around the world work here) and know something I don't know, because that letter is crucial and I HATE not having it (I already did the pouty "why not" and "but I need it" dances with HR on the phone, they're still not givin' it up, LOL - gotta laugh or I'll cry). girlwerewolf2xn.gif

Oh, also ... for #11 on the Affidavit, "I intend/do not intend to make contributions ..." - what on EARTH does one put? Some older posts on VJ say to state "N/A", but I'd like to be sure. That question has been driving me nuts.

Thanks in advance!

We didn't use an attorney. This site SAVED us!! However, the moderators on here have been (as I've read the boards) careful to point out that attorneys are neither endorsed nor discouraged on VJ. So use the services of an attorney if it's the right the decision for you and your fiance/spouse. And GOOD LUCK!!! good.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEnglish fiance - K1 questions...any help?
Hello!

John and I followed the K-1 Guide on this site to the letter, no attorney. We kept it as simple as possible, with the objective of proving that A- he was here, B- we were in the same places at the same times, and C- we were in a bonafide love relationship.

We were arranging for John to come here in May when, lo and behold, the magical NOA-2 arrived in the post. My guess is we just got lucky. There's no special secret, we just had a golden horseshoe up our collective bum. laughing.gif We filed in February and are now on Packet 3, BUT we could just as easily still be waiting for our NOA-1. Some of my UK sistas on here filed at the same time as me and are still waiting, so I'm hoping they see some touches soon. You just cannot predict these things.

As I mentioned, we had been planning for John to come to SoCal while our K-1 was in adjudication, but the NOA-2 put the skids on that, LOL. Our only concern was possible denial at entry, but we ultimately figured that with a return ticket, a letter from his employer and proof that he was paying on a mortgage back home, he'd have little trouble getting through.

Hope this helps, and good luck!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresdo u think I have enough evidence?
Hey thanks for your service, Hoffy.

My fiance and I had his/her receipts. Maybe (if you can) go out to that dinner, do separate checks and then highlight the date/time on each receipt. Go shopping, to a movie, etc. and repeat until you have enough receipts to tape/paste/etc. onto two sheets of paper (his sheet/her sheet). Maybe hit a bank/ATM together, do the same thing with those receipts. Sign your sheet, and have your fiancée sign hers. I also had a co-worker and my mother write and sign testimonial letters (very brief, a few paragraphs) attesting to having met my fiance. Good luck!
