Asia: East and PacificCambodia New Age Limit on Foreign Husbands
PHNOM PENH, March 16, 2011 (AFP) - Male foreigners over the age of 50 have been outlawed from marrying Cambodian women in the country under new rules designed to crack down on sham marriages and human trafficking, the government said Wednesday.
Foreigners who earn less than $2,550 per month are also barred from wedding local women.Marriages between old men and young women are "inappropriate", Koy Kuong said, and foreign men who wish to marry nationals must earn a high salary to ensure that "Cambodian women can live a decent life".

Packet 3 on the website will tell you exactly what needs to be submitted then and what needs to be brought to the interview. Be careful about sending originals, only send those if they ask for it. You can just email the address change to them, but they don't really need it for anything except to send Packet 3.

I was worried to as she had moved right before Packet 3 too, but it doesn't matter, you don't need anything to be sent to the address. Packet 4 is just an appointment date/time.

Good Luck!

I have gone to the Bangkok Embassy website and from what I can see the packet 3 info is not available unless you register and pay a fee to access it online as of June 2010. So at this point I am not real sure what will be required for Packet 3 and I really don't want to wait on the Embassy to send it out. Any help in this area would be of great help....Thank You Again

Now that you have that number wait until after the holidays, you can contact the consulate directly and see if they have received the peitition. If they have you can send in Packet 3 available off the website. I would recommend this as many people never actually receive Packet 3 in the mail.

Thank you very much......this is where i could use all the help we can get. Ihe Fiance had to move this week
so thats anoth step we need to do. Do you know if we just email the consulate direct or can she call and give them
her need address? She is planing on going to BKK the 5th or 6th for her medical and police report. And that was our
plan to just send in packet 3 right away and hope for a Feb. interview. Seems different stoy's on what should be sent with
packet 3 so trying to sort that part out yet. Would kind make up for the holiday's if she could be here for Valentines day :)

You can call the Department of State at 202 663-1225. Do not use the automated system as it will not have information on K-1 visas. Ask the visa specialist for the case number and the date that it was received at NVC as well as the date the at it left NVC. If still feeling courageous, ask them whether it has been received at the embassy and then if the package has been sent to the beneficiary yet.

Goog luck.

Thank you i did call and got mt date recieved and sent also case # Yeahhhhhhhhh

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSawasdee 4 (Thai K-1s in 2010)

Egg went for her interview yesterday and………we now have our visa approval!!!

She arrived an hour early and was 1st in line to enter the Embassy, but apparently they schedule the interviews based on the case number not when you arrive or sign in, so out of eight interviews she was number seven! It was about 11:00 am when she finally left the Embassy and could call me. She said the waiting room was very crowded (several people standing) so being the 1st in allowed her to pick a seat up front where she could hear the names called and also she did not have to stand.

She said her interview lasted about 15 minutes and the female Consulate Officer (CO) asked her a little over 20 questions.
Egg’s greatest interview fear was her use of the English language, especially understanding the questions given to her in English. She feared the worst when the 1st question was “can your fiancé speak Thai?” and “how do you talk to him?” She answered “little bit” and “we talk in English”. She was then told to answer all the questions in English, but if she didn’t understand the question to ask for it to be repeated in Thai and she said, the falang CO could speak pretty good Thai.

Apparently the interview is given at a window in a big open room similar to a bank teller window where you speak through an opening in the glass. Egg said she had a difficult time understanding and hearing the questions as the CO had a kind of a quiet voice and there was a lot of “room noise” from other people talking.

She said overall the CO was very friendly and smiled a lot and kind of joked with her during the whole interview and did repeat or rephrase the questions for her in Thai if she didn’t understand them. One of our initial I-129 photos we submitted was of an embroidering that Egg had done showing a female Indian and male cowboy holding hands with the caption “Egg loves Andy’. Apparently the CO either liked embroidering or the fact that Egg went to the trouble of making it, as she asked several questions at the start of the interview about the photo and seemed to really enjoy it. I’m just really glad I included it as one of our original 17 photos.

As best as she could remember them, the following are the questions she was asked:
1) Can your boyfriend speak Thai?
2) How do you talk to him (English or Thai)?
3) What’s your fiancés name?
4) How old is he?
5) How old are you?
(Note: I’m 62 and Egg is 32 she said the CO had no problem with age difference)
6) What kind of work does he do? And what work do you do?
(She is currently unemployed and works for the “Andy Company”)
7) Where does he live (State and City)? Do you like where he lives?
8) How did you meet your fiancé? (she was in Pattaya visiting her friend/neighbor who was dating my friend, who I was visiting at the same time)
9) How do you know your friend? (grew up together, neighbor from village)
10) When did you both meet for the first time? How long did you meet and where?
11) When was the last time you both met? For how long? And where?
12) How many times has he been to Thailand? (9 total, last 2 trips to see Egg)
13) How do you contact him when he is in America? (we don’t use the phone much, mainly talk on Skype, we submitted Skype logs and screenshot photos of us talking online).
14) Did he marry before? (I was previously married twice) When last divorced?
15) How many children does he have? (none) How many children do you have? (none) Egg said the CO acted surprised that she did not have children and even asked her twice.
16) When will your fiancé come back to Thailand again?
17) Have you ever been outside of Thailand before? (no)

She said the CO then left and then came back with a white slip of paper with a date and time and said “come back in 7 days to pick up your visa”

And that was it!

I’m researching flights now and will probably go over in a few weeks and bring her back with me.

This portion of our journey was made a lot easier thanks to the people and information on this forum. Egg also got a lot of help and info from the Thai equivalent “usvisa4thai.com” forum.

Sounds like Egg and Jeep had almost the same questions and Interveiw times.
Best Wishes on a safe and good flight to Thailand.........Take Care
And may you have a long and Happy Life together.......at least this

Hi Andy,
Yes Egg and Jeep have become very good friends over the course of the last couple of months and hope it will continue after they are both here. I am sure
Egg will do just fine at the interview and that was Jeep's plan also if she didn't understand a question to have it repeated in Thai.

Jeep is excited to see snow but I keep telling her seeing is one thing......living in it is another..LOL
I hope we can meet in the near future as we do plan on doing some travel this summer so she can see some of the US other than just pictures of it.

Wishing You and Egg the Very Best Wishes in your up coming Interveiw.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSawasdee 4 (Thai K-1s in 2010)
First thanks for all the congrats on our approval.
Jeep will be arriving on the 1st of March, due to some unforseen circumstances I was not able to fly over
untill later so she decided to fly here by herself rather than wait.

Here are a few of the questions she was asked.

1. My age
2. When did we meet.
3. How long we lived together in Thailand.
4. Was I ever married before
5. What was my previous wife's names (was married 2 times before)
6. When was the Divorce dates.
7. My kids names and there ages
8. What is the State and City I live in.
9. Have I met her parents and do they like me.
In all Jeep said she asked about 19 questions and it took about 15 Min. for the interview. Over all Jeep said the
lady was very friendly and looked at our pictures ( we had about 40 or so from living together and trips along with
MSN video chat).

She arrived at 6:30am for her interview which the letter said 7am but there were 3 other lady's there for K1 interviews
so she didn't get interviewed untill 11am as she was 3rd in the process. Jeep has a Degree as a English Teacher so her english
is fairly fluent. I bring this up as she noticed that the counsel lady seemed very aggitated if the lady's could not answer
in english. Of the 4 that interviewed that day 2 were approved 2 denied. One of the lady's used a company that has an office
across the road from the Embassy that tout they are a Law Firm dealing with Visa's. I know this Firm very well and they are not
Lawyer's but just a Visa sham. This lady that used them was denied as they did not provide her with her medical or x-ray's along
with other documents..Jeep waited for her and felt very sad that this happened to her.
Hope this of some help to others about to be interviewed.....Again Thanks

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSawasdee 4 (Thai K-1s in 2010)

Have your wife call the police station in Bangkok and ask this question. In the fall of 2009, when my wife called the station and they told her that if she brought in a letter from me stating my intent to marry her (I used the wording my original letter of intent sent with petition and changed the address to the police station) plus a copy of the first page of my passport, and something like 500baht, then they would begin to process the police report.

Again this was in October 2009.

So anyway, just have your wife call the station in Bangkok and ask what her options are.

The Fiancee just did her Police Cert. on the 10th Jan. and all that was needed was a copy of NOA 2 along with all pages from my passport(asked why my passport pages were needed and they explained it was in case something was to happen they had the Foriegners info on file for contacting him/her). And just 40 Baht to have it mailed to you which takes about 2 weeks.

Egg & I thought you had to have your police report before you sent in your packet 3 so we waited till last week to mail it in. i hope you don't have much more than a three week head start on us!!!

They recently stopped the pay approximately 3,000 baht for a 3 day expedited police report, so now everyone has to wait approximately 2 weeks to get the report.

They just updated the Interview list and was hoping You and Egg were on it as it does cover Feb. ...thought maybe we could have had a little celebration with the girls together in Thailand if we were close in Interview dates.....Hope it is soon for the both of you.

That's it? Pay for her Medical, police report and consulate fee?

Thank you for the information and the link. I assume the other fees are encountered when we re-enter the US together as a couple... such as AOS and what not.

So.... my next question is....

I'm traveling to Thailand on Feb 3 to stay with her for 3 weeks. I should be able to get the NVC case number by then.

Should we try to get the medical and police certification out of the way while I am there?

You can call NVC and get your case number, they will also give you the date they recieved it and date sent to Thailand. They send it DHL so you can figure about 3 or 4 days from NVC to Thailand.
And yes you are correct all other fee's start when you do the AOS...........good luck

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSawasdee 4 (Thai K-1s in 2010)

Maybe you guys can help me out with this. I've been surfing through the guides and FAQs trying to find a layout of the fees for the various forms that are required when filing for a K1 visa.

There is the I-129F fee... which is paid. I just received the NOA-2 and I'm trying to prepare for the upcoming fees.

I went to the NVC site and I'm not finding a layout of fees for them. I'm not filling an I-130 because we're not related. I know I have to file the I-134 Affidavit of support and USCIS site shows no fee for that.

What fees are associated with the NVC?

What fees are associated with the Embassy and interview?

If there's a page for this on VJ... I apologize I missed it. Could somebody point me in the right direction so I can begin researching?

Thanks!

The next fee's will be Medical which was 1,950 Baht if she has her shots done at local Goverment Hospital or about 3,500 Baht if she takes the shots at medical. The Police Cert. was 40 Baht for mailing fee and then the 10,500 Baht for the Counsulte fee.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSawasdee 4 (Thai K-1s in 2010)

For you guys who have recently submitted your Packet 3, were you able to obtain your police report before you received packet 3 from the Embassy. My lawyer told me today that there is a new guy down there and we had to actually wait until we received packet 3 in order to request the police report. Also said there was no more expediting the PR for a little tea money. Any recent reports? I would like to save the 2 week delay and get the report so I can turn packet 3 around as quickly as possible.

We never recieved Packet 3 and really we didn't wait for it as we wanted to get and early interview date. As soon as I called NVC and got out case # the Fiancee took a copy of our NOA2 with the NVC case number and went for medical and Police Cert with no problems. There were 3 other lady's there with just NOA 2 copy's and all had the Police Cert. done that day. It saved us 3 weeks on the Interview time line.

Hello. I'm a new member here and I have a question.

This whole K-1 process takes like 5-6 months. During that time I'm thinking to get married to her in Thailand. After she is approved for her visa to the US, then we would get married in the US. There are no children or other family.

Does this mean I should be filing for a K-3 or a K-1?

Thank you
