I think the biggest question she had was whether to choose american name rules or german name rules. There were no directions on what the differences are, so how are you supposed to make this choice?

Long time no hear. How are you doing? Hope Joana feels like home now...

Hi Evi! You're right, it has been too long. Joana is doing well. She just finished her first year of school, and is playing on the tennis team, might even get a scholarship next year. Hope all is going well for you too, and it looks like it is from the baby pics. Very cute!

Thanks for the link to the embassy site. I know she has been talking with them for a while now, but it's so hard to iron out the details with them. Did you know they are only open for 3 hours per day from 9-12?? I'd love to have those hours. I will have her look at the site you sent

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)German people...rührt euch!!
Guten Morgen!

I had a quick question that hopefully someone else has experience with here. My wife is from Germany, came over on a K1, and we are now married. She took my last name, and moved her maiden name to be her middle name. This appears on her green card, driver's license, and social security card. We need to change her name on her German Passport, and it is causing trouble/confusion.

Does anyone know exactly how this is done? What papers need to be filled out, proof needs to be included, and where it needs to be sent or where she/we need to go? We live in Rhode Island, and she has been talking to people in the German Consulate in Boston, but they are only open for like 3 hours per day and are less than helpful.

If anybody has any experience doing this, we would be very greatful for your :help: ! Danke.

Hi,

I was hoping some of you kind German souls could help me. I'm looking for the name and phone number of the doctor in Hamburg who does the visa medicals. My wife (!) had her medical done there, and said there was only one name on the list she was given in her K1 packet, but she can't remember the name. We need to call that guy and have him fax over the vaccination supplement. Argh....

Thanks!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWhat do include with the I-751 Form?
QUOTE (AntandD @ Oct 10 2008, 09:34 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
P.S. By the way, since you're also filing at the VSC for the I-751, you can add your name and information to the following message thread list: "VSC I-751 Status List" (look for the last updated list on the last page), so you can see your own progress and help all VJers on this same long wait too. Thank you.: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=110056

THanks for all your help. Do I need to include pictures too?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWhat do include with the I-751 Form?
Hi all,

I am about to file my I-751, but I was wondering what I have to include with the I-751 Form besides the form, a cover letter and evidence of our marriage? Please help, since my green card expires soon and I need to file it asap. The instructions on the uscis.gov website are not clear at all sad.gif!

Thanks,
Joana and James

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionTravel after Green Card Expiration
Hi,

we filed our I-751 Form, got my biometrics taken and received a letter that my green card is extended for one more year. The original expiration date is at the end of January. I am going to leave the country for Christmas for two weeks and then again after my green card expires. If I bring the letter that states my green card is extended for one year, is that enough proof so I won't get in trouble at the customs to re-enter the USA?

Thanks for your help!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApproved!
it's funny, i remember when i first found this site. I was trying to learn the seemingly endless process of a K-1, and as i saw the "approved" threads I felt like I was so far away from that. It really does feel good to be finished with one step in the long process, and all of you people out there just starting will get here soon too :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApproved!
Another success story due largely in part to VJ.com and it's wealth of resources (Including it's members!)

My wonderful fiancee was approved at the Frankfurt consulate this afternoon. She said it was quick and painless. She arrived at the building around 8:30am, and after a brief wait out in the freezing cold everybody was let inside and security checked. She talked to 3 or 4 different people in total, and was approved with no problem! Yahoo!! They did say I had to fax over a more updated letter of intent to marry, because the one I sent her over there with was dated back in September. They are mailing the visa and passport to her within 2 weeks!

All together, from mailing in the first form to getting approval at the interview, it took 146 days. This included a 38 day delay in sending back packet 3 because she had to get a new passport. So essentially a 108 day approval with no problems at all, thanks VJ

Now I hope AOS is just as smooth

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFiancee arrives today!
Hi all, just wanted to check in and let everyone know how the big day went.

Joana arrived safe and sound at JFK, there were some significant delays, but none because of the immigrations or customs stuff. The plane was about 15 minutes late, then half of the baggage didn't make it on the plane so there was a frenzy of angry passengers. After about an hour and half, she finally made it out the door and into my arms :) I was starting to get nervous because so many people had come out before her, but I guess it was just bad timing at immigration because a couple other flights arrived at the same time.

Her actual immigration process was a breeze. They made her sit down and talk to somebody about the visa, but there really weren't any questions asked. He just filled out some papers, stamped her passport, and she was out the door. Unfortunately, she didn't get the EAD stamp, but she also didn't ask for it. After a long day of flying, and a lot of nervousness, I guess it slipped her mind. So if they do indeed still give the stamp, it's not automatic. We'll try and call the local immigration office and see what we can do about it.

So that's all -- it turns out the hardest part of the K1 proccess is the wait. Hopefully AOS is the same story!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFiancee arrives today!
My wonderful fiancee lands at JFK in just about 12 hours, and i think it's the first 3-4 hour drive i've ever looked forward to :P Then I get to turn around and do it all over again, but this time with my copilot by my side.

It's been a heck of a long wait, but I consider us to be one of the more fortunate ones. We've had a smooth journey thus far, mainly due to the guidance of this board and the people who inhabit it. Thanks for everything so far, and I can't wait to hop on down to the AOS forum tommorrow

Here's hoping all goes well at the POE, she gets the EAD, and we can finally start our lives together. I'll let you all know how it goes soon!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresbeen in Canada for 9 months so do I need police certificate?
I don't really know how to say this without coming off sounding like a jerk, but since 9 months is shorter than a year, no you do not need it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresvisit and k1?
I don't think it disqualifies them, but they might have a hard time getting one if the gov knows they are going over to visit their fiance - which means they are much more likely to stay.
