K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTwo questions...
QUOTE (KGSodie @ Aug 31 2007, 09:30 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I believe at least one of the forms (I129F) asks for the address where the two of you plan to reside, doesn't it? Still being in the middle of the process myself I don't know how sticky the government is on this point. Often, the government is all about dotting the t's and crossing the i's.

Kevin

Well, I believe there is a form that I can use to change our residence address after things are approved. My plan was to use my parent's address since they will not be moving anytime soon as a place to mail all communication as well as our "official" place of residence. Then after the visa is approved we would submit the form to get our address of residence changed. The other option I see is using my current address and then submitting the form when it gets changed, but I am afraid of mail mix-ups and such. So, does all this seem reasonable or will I get burned if I use an address other than my current residence.

Are you going to use a relative's address then?

We only submitted about six pictures with the petition but Claudeth took two 3-ring binder full of pictures to the interview tongue.gif

Yes, most likely my parents.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTwo questions...
Hello all, I am relatively new to the forums, you can read my introduction here

So I have two questions:

1. I plan on submitting my I-129F at the beginning of October. I also planning on moving in February of next year (2008). I live in the same city as some relatives, parents and grandparents. Should I put down my current address, or should I put down another in order to minimize risk of any any correspondence being sent to the wrong place? Or does it matter enough that I have to put down my current place of residence?

2. The proof I will be offering for a meeting in the last two years will be 5-6 pictures of us together in Berlin, Germany and then copies of stamps in my passport with the dates shown of me entering Germany as well as a receipt sent to me for the tickets I bought to go. Of course along with this I will provide a written account, but do you all think this will be enough?

Thanks for any advice you all can offer. If anyone reads my story and the questions there and has advice to give, I am all ears.

On the G-325A I do not have enough space to fit my entire employment history for the past five years. So, should I fill out a separate sheet and attach it to the form, clearly stating what part of the form it is as well as signing and dating it?

Also, on the same form, my girlfriend is currently in Germany studying, so her current address is there. However, at the end of the year she is returning to Moscow where she is from. I plan on submitting my application soon, so by putting her current address in Germany will I have any problems down the line when she is back home and the embassy contacts her or will they use the address I put on the I-129F? Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks!

- Steven

Yes on the needed extra space. I would use her permanent address in Moscow on the I-129F but show her German address as temporary on the G325a.

Ok, I will include the extra sheet, I guess I should put a note in the employment history to refer to the attached sheet. What is the best way to show her address in Germany as temporary?

I think that is absolutely amazing that they can't get it right the first time. They have a computer telling them what an acceptable "fingerprint-score" is, and then have two layers of "quality review" before it even hits the FBI's desk for processing. Amazing....

Since this is obviously their mess-up, I'm sure that they will refund the gas money and time lost from work when you have to go an see them a 2nd time... riiiiiiiiight....... mad.gif

FBI couldn't process the fingerprints so we have to go back 03/13/09 to have them redone.
Oh joy!

Since my case is not normal, my NOA on 01/13/09(VSC). but i don't get the Finderprint letter yet,
in references to all of filers in January, you guys all get the Figerprint letter, what can i do?

Katherine,

I think you have a couple of options. Create an account at the USCIS website. (https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/index.jsp) and click on "Create/edit customer portfolio account." Once you created your on-line account, you can "Attach" your NOA receipt number. This will allow you to see whenever your case is "touched" by the USCIS (Look in the "Last Updated" column).

Another option is to call USCIS (phone number on your Notice of Action). This may not be the most productive use of your time. However, it's worth a try if you have the time to spare. I have read on the USCIS site that even if you get to talk to a representative, they will not be able to give you any specific information about your particular case while it is in "pending" mode. They do not research your case because they are focusing on current cases, and not cases that are in the "queue".

If I may ask, why do you say that your case is "not normal"?

Best of luck,

Goran

I just came back from my biometrics appointment and I must say that the process was simple, fast and easy. The whole process from beginning to end took no more than 15 minutes. And the questions pointed out by sarara on the last comment are the same asked at all USCIS Support Centers in regards to First, Middle and Last Name, Place of Birth, Nationality, Mother's First Name, Father's first name etc.

Hope your fingerprinting goes as smooth as mine Goran.

Thanks, Nocturnalbeat! I will let you know all about it next Tuesday. I'm not sure how to bring one thing up for the USCIS, or if it even matters. You see, my Swedish passport spells my last name "Gustafsson" (notice the "f"), also my Swedish birth certificate will spell my last name with an "f". However, all through life, I have spelled my last name with a "v", rather than an "f". I.e., Gustavsson. My Green Card, U.S. Driver's License, and other official U.S. papers, like mortgage, etc, use "v".

My father's last name in the "swedish books" is spelled with a "v". However, some screw-up happened, and my mom's last name is spelled with a "f," which is why I think the "f" stuck with me as well. My sister and brother have "v" in their last names as well.

So, bottom line is, I need to figure out how to explain this inconsistency in the Swedish "system" somehow. Any ideas?

Cheers,

Goran

QUOTE (nocturnalbeat @ Feb 8 2009, 06:35 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
First of All I would like to say Hi to everyone here in this forum. I, as everyone else here knows that dealing with the USCIS can be a life changing experience wether or not your case get approved. We have so many family members and friends whom we want to remain close to, and the thought of been separated to them because of a particular case not been approved can have a serious impact on us.

I will post my information as I feel that by doing so I will be helping other people in my same situation, just as previous posts have helped me.

Take care everyone and good luck to all.

Greetings from Sunny Southern California,

-Mr. Nocturnal Beat

I mailed my application on 01/28/09 to the new Lockbox Facility:

USCIS Lockbox Facility
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
P.O. Box 21251
Phoenix, AZ 85034

As some of you might have noticed, the zip code that was originally given on the first notice change last December had an incorrect zip code. It was then revised to read:

USCIS Lockbox Facility
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
P.O. Box 21251
Phoenix, AZ 85036

But don't worry if you used the incorrect zip code to mail your N-400 since it will still get there and won't affect the delivery time. (I was worried at first).

So here is the rest of my info:

N-400 mailed 01/28/09
Date received at lockbox 01/30/09
Priority Date 01/30/09
NOA mailed 02/03/09
NOA received 02/05/09

Please include my information on your database.

Also, I have read in this forum that we are STRONGLY adviced to disclose any traffic tickets. Unfortunately I was not aware of that and therefore answered "NO"
to questions 16-18 on Part 10 Section D, Good Moral Character.

I got a traffic ticket for speeding in 2007 but the ticket was dismissed after I paid the fine and completed traffic school. I received another traffic ticket last year(2008) due to a really stupid speed trap (boy I hate those). No other ticket s/infractions. Both tickets had a fine of less than $500

My plan is to let the USCIS Interviewing Officer know about these two tickets and have the appropriate certified copies of the Court Depositions and/or Jockets.

I hope the IO understands that I was confused and that I don't intend to be dishonest.

Do you guys think that this is the proper course of action? I feel really bad for not disclosing these tickets on my application and thus hope that I get a chance to rectify myself in front of the IO.

I do not think you will have a problem. You can make any changes to the application at the time of your interview, and I don't think you are the only one confused by how to answer some of those "...have you ever been detained" questions....I.e., is a traffic stop considered being detained? ... Good thing they clarified that in their latest instructions for the N-400 app.

I feel it's okay to worry or even panic until that certificate comes in, you need it for other stuff, so either have to battle with the DOS or with the USCIS with 400 bucks plus a copy of the one that was lost with a 6-9 month wait.

With expedient service, passport came in in a cardboard envelop that I had to sign for, three days later, the extremely more expensive certificate came in first class in a cheap paper envelop from exactly the same office, New Orleans in our case when Chicago is nearby. DOS could have saved 43 cents for the stamp and another 20 cents for the envelop, and even another hundred bucks to pay someone to address it, if they just stuck it in with the passport. But this is our government.

Did they accept a copy of your Naturalization Certificate? It says on mine that it is illegal to make copies of the certificate. huh.gif

Hey Ahuacatl,

I see that you have an entry in on the "January 2009" filers (application sent date of 1/31), and on this thread, "February 2009" filers (application sent date of 2/14). Can you let us know which one is the correct (unless you actually have two applications submitted)?

Thanks,

Goran

Thank you so much! I saw your statistics in the other threads and almost asked you to do one for us, too. But then I figured that we probably should do it ourselves. But I'm glad you did the work! Thank you! good.gif biggrin.gif

Wonder what the statistics will look like once everybody took their oath.

US Citizenship General DiscussionU.S. Passport Application Warning
NickD: Did they return your USC certificate in the same package? Did you go back to that guy at the post office and ask him what's going on. Didn't he make you sign it in front of him after saying the oath and all that stuff?

No. In the cover letter they sent me they stated that they were retaining my USC certificate. All they sent me were three things. The first was the cover letter, which indicated the "problem" of not having signed the application and that they would wait 90 days for me to correct the problem, and in those 90 days keep my USC proof. The second was a letter to the Passport Acceptance Agent that included a check list of things he/she needed to do when I showed up (such as do not charge this customer another $25 for processing, etc). The third was clean passport application with one of my two photos that I sent in with my original application stapled to it.

I filled out the application again and returned to the same post office where I submitted my original applciation. It so happened that the same "acceptance agent" was on duty this time as well. He is as sure as I am that we both signed the application before it was sent to the New Orleans Passport Agency.

Yes, I took the oath and signed the application in front of him. (It's hard to miss the "DO NOT SIGN THIS APPLICATION UNTIL REQUESTED TO DO SO BY A PERSON ADMINISTERING OATH." I am a pilot, and therefore very linear in my thinking. I do not leave things "undone," nor do I not follow instructions, line by line, and double check that they are done. (Known as Checklists to pilots).

NickD: We had a choice in our town between the city clerk and the post office, always a line at the post office, so elected to use the city clerk. She had that authorized thingy on the wall from the DOS, but apparently they only trust her to give the oath, but not to make a copy of the certificate. Really enjoy watching that TV program, NCIS where one government agency never trusts another. Surprised the DOS trusts the USCIS, in our case, we don't trust anyone of them. Not a paranoid statement on my part, constantly on the news about Americans not trusting their government.

It's funny that you mention the "...not to make a copy of the certificate." I was going back and forward on this one. It states clearly on my certificate that you are not allowed to make copies. However, the Immigration Officer that handed us our USC Certificates at the Oath Ceremony told us that even though it says not to make copies on the certificate that we should do so anyways. I am regretting that I didn't before sending it away for my passport application.

US Citizenship General DiscussionU.S. Passport Application Warning
I was naturalized on July 15th 2009, and applied for my U.S. Passport at the local Post Office the same day. Standard Passport Processing time is stated to be 4-6 weeks on the Department of State website. My planned vacation to Sweden starts September 17th - plenty of time to get my passport processed (at 6 weeks, should be processed by last week of August.)

Think again....

I received a letter yesterday stating that my passport application was not signed in front of the passport application acceptance agent at the post office. This is completely incorrect. I signed the bloody application right in front of the agent. I am 100% certain of this. What really baffles me is why would they say I didn't sign the application????

Anyway, now, barely more than 3 weeks before I leave for Sweden, I still have no passport, and I have to go back to the post office and re-apply for the passport. All I say is that they better expedite the process this time so that the passport comes within 2 weeks.

... and I thought dealing with incompetent and lazy federal workers would stop once I got my Naturalization Certificate and became a U.S. Citizen... HA! I am afraid it has just begun!

US Citizenship General DiscussionPassport Journey
Here's my experience and time line applying for a passport.

1) Applied for standard processing at local Post Office (Richmond, VA) on July 15.
2) Received letter on August 22nd from the New Orleans Passport Agency that my application had been submitted "unsigned." Agency returned a blank passport application and one of the photos I submitted with my original application. They also kept my original application, one photo, and my Naturalization Certificate.
3) Resubmitted another passport application at the same post office on August 24th. Also enclosed a $60 check for expedited processing (just in case).
4) Called several times to the National Passport Information Center, but all they said was "your application is still being processed."
5) Received passport, naturalization certificate, and $60 check back on September 5th.
6) Still waiting for the Passport Card, which will probably come in a separate mailing.

It took over 7 weeks and 3 days. A process that should take less than 6 weeks. Oh, and their statement that I had not signed my original application is not true. I signed it.

Anyway, in the end, I got my passport before my departure in 1.5 weeks.

Cheers,

Goran

US Citizenship General DiscussionApplying for US Passport - Certificate of Citizenship
Yes, you need to submit the original if you apply for your passport through a post office or via mail. If mail, I strongly recommend to certify your mail. Copies are not accepted.

If you have a ticket that says you're traveling within 14 days, you can request same-day processing at one of the very few Passport Agencies across the country. One is in Washington, D.C. Anyway, you will need to setup an appointment via phone, and then you need to bring your certificate with you to your appointment. You will get it back the same day.

Hope this helps,

goran
