My daughter (6) came with me as a K4 visa, we adjusted status last year and are supossed to apply for Removal of Conditions in Feb. She was recently adopted by my US citizen husband and we are about to send the Application for Certificate of Citizenship N-600. the problem is I just don't know what to do about the Removal of Conditions, since the N-600 takes about 6 mos., she'll be in the middle of it when it would be time for her to file the other one with me and her GC will be expired by the time she gets the citizenship. Anyone has gone through this? or has some ideas? Thanks!

Your daughter became a citizen the moment the adoption became final. The N600 is just an application for a certificate proving that she is already a citizen. If you are worried about her GC expiring before the N600 is completed, I suggest that you go ahead and get a US passport for her. All you will need as documentary proof of her citizenship is the adoption decree and her green card.

I just read the Child Citizenship Act of 2000 and it looks like she meets all the requirements to acquire US citizenship automatically, on the passport application says must give her social security number, should I change her name on her SSN (if they let me) or should I just take it as it is (with old name) ??? Any thoughts?

THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP!!! I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE CHILD CITIZENSHIP ACT 2000, GOT ALL THE DOCS TOGETHER AND WENT TO THE PASSPORT OFFICE YESTERDAY, THE LADY SEEMED TO KNOW WHAT SHE WAS DOING smile.gif SO NOW WE HAVE TO WAIT A MONTH TO GET IT, WE HAD THE IDEA THAT WE HAD TO GET THE CERTIFICATE OF CITIZENSHIP IN ORDER TO GET A PASSPORT (LIKE IT WAS AN APPLICATION "TO GET" THE CITIZENSHIP) OR AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT THE LADY AT THE USCIS OFFICE SAID WHEN WE ADJUSTED STATUS. ANYWAY...IT'S DONE NOW! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

In the process of adoption, wasn't a new birth certificate issued for your daughter with your husbands name on it? It was for me when I adopted a couple kids. Seems to me, that is all you need is that birth certificate. At least one parent is a USC. It's easy to buy extra copies, can send one off to the DOS and learn if they will issue her a passport, if they do, you know for sure.

Yes, we have several copies of the certificate of the Certificate of Identification for Child of Foreign Birth but it says: "THIS IS NOT A PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP" so now I'm confused, we'll call the DOS today and ask just in case.

Hello,

My daughter came with me on K2 visa. Now that I am US citizen how can I have a certificate for her?
Thanks
Catherine

You don't need to apply for a cert., even though you can if you want to (is $500 and 6 months) It is only a paper that says she is a US citizen, you can get a passport for her with the documents required in the actual Passport Aplication, in the section that says claiming citizenship through naturalized parent (s). It is confusing because you can't find any specific info on the passport website, you need to print the form.

We just filed the application for a Passport for my daughter, she came with me on a K3 visa and was adopted by my husband which is very similar, you only need proof of YOUR citizenship (cert. of Naturalization or US passport), daughter's GC+ foreign passport+birth certificate & translation.
IT SAYS SO ON THE APPLICATION FOR PASSPORT, PAGE 2, 1 PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP: SECTION b #1

GOOD LUCK!

No one sends you a reminder for removing conditions - must be your lawyer or someone or something like that. Take another look at the reminder. As far as I know there is no such thing as a reminder from Immigration people - I haven't heard of anything like this yet. Good Luck

Nope, we don't use lawyers,we've done everything by ourselves. It's from USCIS.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionOk, I'm confused...
I'm about to file my I-751, My daughter and I came on K3 and K4 visas, my US husband adopted my child last Feb. and we applied for her US passport in Nov (got some help from this forum biggrin.gif) we got her US passport on Christmas eve (yay!), the thing is we just received a reminder for Removal of Conditions(one each), I was supposed to include her in my I-751, but obviously she doesn't need it anymore, I thought USCIS would be aware of her becoming a US citizen, now I don't know what to do or if I should do something about it, I can't help but think (since they obviously don't know anything) they could start removal proceedings against her in her old name. I'm really confused.

On the instruction sheet says 2 passport style photos, if I include my child I guess she needs her own 2 photos, right?? Thanks.
