It varies based on how busy the service centers are that process the fiancé(e) visas. The first stage (the petition, with USCIS) can take between 2 and 5 months - more if you get a RFE (request for further evidence) or more. The second stage (the visa, with the Dept of State & the US Consulate in Rio) will also vary, but typically, from your NOA2 approval date, it will be about 6-8 weeks. (L was an exception, but that was mostly of our choosing - his original interview was within that period.) So, overall, 4-7 months would be a good estimate from the application until the interview, and it can be a week or two to get your passport back from the consulate if the courrier is backed up.

the question posed by danimatt didn't include many specific details which are quite pertinent to her case. this thread will indicate where danimatt is at and the process she is undergoing.

as i understand the situation, she is already here in the usa and therefore isn't eligible for a k-1 (planned marriage this dec), unless she foregoes the marriage and returns to brazil.

Nice K! Keep working on it! Luis was also able to understand and speak Portuguese and registering our marriage this weekend at the Consulado Itinerante in Little Rock. Also transferred my title and renewed my passport. Was very glad they came around to get stuff done without going to Houston.

me too - that one we went to this past weekend probably saved us almost 1k in flight/hotel/car rental.

it feels good being done with immigration. no more paperwork,no more biometrics, i mean, how many times can they take my fingerprints? i haven't mutated, it's the same as first time.

that's debatable :P

info for members - to put someone on ignore:
-copy their name using your mouse copy feature (usually drag over their name to highlight it, right click and select copy) - make sure you get all of their name - you can copy the name from their post.
-then in the upper right, click just to the right of your name on the little down arrow and a drop down menu will appear.
-click on "my settings"
-you'll have to use the tabs along the top now to select "profile"
-on the bottom of that tab there is "managed ignored users" - click on that.
-in the block "Add a new user to your list" paste in the name (right click and select paste) the one you want to ignore. repeat to add names as necessary.
-you check which feature you want - Ignore Personal Conversations or Ignore Posts, or both. ignore posts means you won't see anything they type in the forums, ignore personal conversations means that person cannot send you a pm.
-click save changes and you're done.
-no, you cannot ignore mods with the pm or posts ignore

i also suggest to members to enable friends only when approved and enable profile comments only when approved. both of those are under the profile tab too, Change Profile Information. this prevents people from putting nasty comments on your profile - they are visible only to you until you approve them. only after being approved are they seen by others. also, not everyone can just make you their friend without a decision by you. in some cases, you may not want to be associated with someone.

Mexico, Latin & South Americarenew my brasilian wifes passport in us

Hello everyone. I recently brought my wife here 4 months ago on a k1 visa from brasil. i live in the usa. we got married on the89th day that she was here. We now notice that her passport will expire in less than 3 months. we are going to go to the consulate in wasington d.c personally to renew her passport. we have not filed for a green card yet. What documents will we need to take to washngton to hve her passport renewed. She does not have her birth certificate or a copy. She supplied the original w/ her paperwork during her visa interview. Also can we go on any day we choose. How long can we expect the process to take and what is the process. Thanks a million.

your best way to find out is to review the embassy's website for what documents are needed.
