Then it gets sent to the NVC, which is in Portsmouth NH.

And afterwards it gets sent to the embassy in the beneficiary's country.

Is this correct? Yes

Also, I have read that you get assigned a NVC case number, where can I find this and what is it used for? You need to call the NVC and ask for it or wait for hard copy in mail. It is used to check case status at:

https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?

And does anyone know how long it takes before you get that number? As soon as NVC gets the petition from USCIS which can take up to a month after getting NOA2
And how long does it take to get from USCIS to NVC to embassy?Up to two weeks, mine too 8 days after leaving NVC

That is really helpful and all information I needed. A big thank you to you!

Hey y'all!

I'm a bit lost after reading so much different things, so thought I'd ask to be sure!

So our K1 petition is approved on August 28th in Vermont. (we did not get a hardcopy yet).

Then it gets sent to the NVC, which is in Portsmouth NH.

And afterwards it gets sent to the embassy in the beneficiary's country.

Is this correct?

Sorry if these are stupid questions, but hey.. we all gotta learn.

And I'd rather know what I am doing in this process instead of missing things or making mistakes. wink.png

In our case the NVC keep our form probably for one or two weeks at most. In fiance visas they don't do the same process as cr1 visas

There is none because all a k1 does at NVC is stop long enough to get a case# and off to embassy/consulate you go.

I did not know that, thanks both!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Gave to wait 8 weeks? Wow..

Hey y'all!

Called NVC for the 1st time this morning, to see if our case was already there. Our NOA2 was August 28th, so thought we'd check that.

Let me tell you this.. after 1h waiting, we got a really crabby unfriendly lady that for sure did not like her job at all.
I mean, I do not want to hear "Yup." or "Whatever, I'm not sure." or "Uhuh." as an answer. Seriously.. ranting33va.gif

Anyway!

They haven't received anything yet. And after hearing her out, she said "Starting from August, the waiting period is 8 weeks for your case to get here. Just call back then."

And she hung up.

Besides her being super rude, which I still can't believe, I am wondering something.

8 weeks seems very long! Anyone else heard about this too? wacko.png

National Visa Center (Dept of State)What does this mean?

Hey y'all!

We called NVC yesterday and they finally received our case.
Today I checked the status online and it said "in transit".

That means that it is on its way from NVC to the embassy in Belgium, right?

What are the next steps?

I just want to be sure.

Okay, once you get your Packet 3 (the checklist as you call it), it will have a date at the bottom of it stating how long the petition is valid until.

On the hard copy of the NOA2 there was a expiration date (somewhere in December, I'd have to check for the exact one), is that the same one?

We also received our case number from NVC when we called, which starts with BRS. So I suppose that's it too?

That said, if you're now showing "Ready" as of today's date.. I'd say that means the petition's in Brussels.

Aha!
Then my next question is.. how long can it stay there? Since I still didn't receive the affidavit of support from my fiancee due to personal matters.

And I guess I should wait until the embassy sends the checklist by mail before doing anything else, like scheduling a medical exam?

And on an extra note, when we called NVC for the first time, they did not receive our case until 09/11. So how is it possible that it was created on 09/10?

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Can someone explain this, please?

Hey y'all!

I'm super confused.. again..

On 09/12 on the NVC status check it said that our case was in transit.

On 09/14 it said that we had an interview date.

On 09/16 we called them to check what was going on, since there was no way it could've been over here in 1-2 days. They told us that there was an error on the site, that we weren't the only ones. So did no have a date, but it was on its way to Belgium anyway, so not to worry.

I've been checked my emails, post office-box & the website every morning since then.

And today I see this on the site:

Case Creation Date: 10-Sep-2013 Status Updated Date: 19-Sep-2013
Your case is ready for your interview when scheduled at the U.S. Consular section. If you have already scheduled an appointment for an interview, please prepare your documents as directed in your appointment letter and appear at the consulate on the appointed date and time. Otherwise, please wait until you have been notified of your interview appointment.

What does this mean?
Does it mean that it is received by the embassy here in Belgium or what?
Please reply, I'd like to know what's going on. :)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhat fees after NOA2?

Usually when you progress to the Embassy stage, the things you have to pay for usually include the following:

-MRV/Visa Fee

-Police Certificate

-Medical

-Cost of getting any other evidence together like birth certificates etc.

MRV is this, right?

  • K ? Fiancé(e) or Spouse of U.S. citizen category visa: $240.00

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhat fees after NOA2?

Hey y'all!

I got my NOA2 yesterday and started researching everything today.

When it comes to the fees that need to be paid, I am a bit puzzeled. I have been looking stuff up online, but I want to be sure so thought I'd ask y'all.

If I get this right, this needs to be paid for:

- affidavit of support

- departement of state  (is this another name for 'USCIS immigrant fee' or something different?)

- visa application

administrative costs

Does a fee need to be paid for the joint-sponsor too?

Does the applicant or beneficiary pay for all this?

Where can all this be paid, online or bank statement?

How much does it all cost?

Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance!

Hey y'all!

I checked our case status on the U.S. Department of State website and it says this:

"Your case is in transit to the Consular Section. Your interview date was provided to you by the National Visa Center."

I supposed that means that it left NVC and is on its way to the embassy in the country of the beneficiary?

If so, how can there already be an interview date if we did not even receive any paperwork, nothing at all besides NOA2.

Feel free to pitch in, since I am a bit confused.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhat happens to the 'evidence' at/after the interview?

It's not that he's being mean... It's a difference in culture. I have a Chinese friend whose personality is much like Darnell's online. A lot of people take what he says the wrong way because, well, at times in Western culture much of that kind of attitude is considered rude. (As a result, he doesn't have very many friends and tends to piss people off.)  Sometimes, I think that "Darnell" might actually be him based on his answers.  He means no harm.

I think you got a valid point here, I'll accept that. smile.png

They handed ours back to us at the interview.

 Okay, good to know!

They gave it all back to my hubby, in batches, through the slot under the window.

Thanks for your reply, I hope it's the same for me.

I made copies of everything and brought the originals with me also. They looked at the originals and gave it back to me.

That's not a bad idea, I think I might just go do that too then.

CO handed over to my wife ..they won't keep it

I sure hope you're right.

Oh, but I answered that bit - reread what I wrote.

There's no need to be 'mean' here. I was just wondering since that part made no sense to me. I just had a question and as far as I know, we are all here to ask and answer those.

if the Vice-Consul takes it, then it's added into the casefile, and you never, ever, see it again.

Never to be seen again? Why is that? There isn't much they can do with lovey-dovey handwritten letters, no? Where does it go, why would they keep that? huh.png

Hey y'all!

I was wondering what happens at or after the interview with everything you bring with you.

Like the evidence of your ongoing relationship, I will bring letters, pictures, drawings he made for me, ...you know stuff like that.
Does the embassy keep that as evidence and add it to your case, or can you take it back home with you?

I mean, I wouldn't want to lose all that since it is quite precious to me.

So can anyone tell me what they do with that, and with all other documents for that matter?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestions about 'the checklist' packet 3

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestions about 'the checklist' packet 3

Hey y'all!

Today I finally received packet 3.

As most of you know, this is just a checklist about all documents you need to send them back and/or the ones you need for the interview and medical exam.

Included in this packet I found a pre-made letter that I need to send off to get two copies of my police record. This needs to be sent to Brussels, our capital.

But I already have one copy of my police record, which I got from my local police office a few eeks ago and it is signed by the local 'whatever you call them people in charge of these things' and also by the mayor.

Is this good enough? Or do I really need to send that letter?

And if it is good enough, can I just take a copy of the original one or ...?

Then my other issue is that there is also a list included with photographers, since I need a few pics that are 2x2 inch which is not the standard size.

Do those pics need to be from one of those places on the list, or can I just go to my local photographer?

If anyone from Belgium has dealt with this before, please help me out.

I want everything to go smooth and without delays..

Hey y'all!

I am aware that not many Belgian people seem to be that active or are in the same stage as me, but thought I'd give it a shot.

My case has been at the embassy in Brussels since August 19th. On September 25th they finally sent me my packet 3, which I sent back the day after.
But I still didn't get an interview date, while after checking other timelines I suppose I should've already had one by now.

Is this normal that it takes this long?

I'm just starting to worry since the priority date is in November already and then there's the government shutdown too. The site states that they're still open, but yea..

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionVisa status question

Hey y'all!

In short: I've had my interview 2 days ago, they told me that the affidavit of support wasn't good enough and did not know what to decide just yet. So they put the case 'under review' and told me they'd contact me back.

So far I haven't heard them yet but I've been checking the case status online. Which has been on 'ready' since September 10th. It got updated on October 10th (interview day), then again on October 11th. But it keeps saying 'ready'.

Does that mean anything in particular?

Wow, very strange.  Good for you for calling them and being persistent.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionThat embassy just wants to stress me out..

Doesnt sound like the entire embassy is out to get you, like the title of your thread implies. Sounds to me like the person you spoke to on the phone was helping, and on the contrary, was trying to relieve your stress and help straighten things out. The CO was just a jerk, not everyone. Best of luck

 I know that.

But I've been stressing ever since that interview, waiting around, not getting any response to emails or calls.

So yes, I finally spoke to someone who was helpful.

But it still isn't fun to hear that some **** that hates her job was able to mess up my case.

The supervisor said that if I hadn't called, I would've never been contacted at all, since the case was closed.

So exuse me for wanting to pull my hair out about that embassy. wink.png

Thank you for the luck by the way!
