PhilippinesSad question we hate to ask

send a withdrawal letter to USCIS...

I think I messed up. I am now married to a wonderful, loving Filipina. We are waiting on our CR1. Problem is I filed a K-1 with another over a year ago. It didnt work out and I just abandon the petition. After reading these post, im thinking I should have sent a letter to USCIS. How bad will this be?

I bought 3 pints of Tanduy Rum in the Phils. $1.80 total! Cheaper than a bag of butterfingers. No problem getting it back here.

PhilippinesAnother foreigner killed.

I'm wondering what to think here. Having made several trips to the Philippines, I can attest that I feel as safe there as I do at home. I don't go around with lots of money, I stay with my sweetheart, I try not to make myself look conspicuous. Its hard to blend into the crowd where we live in Cubao, but maybe I'm less of a target than in places like Angeles or Subic, where a lot of Americans congregate. My Filipino co-worker who lives in GenSan said I should just write off most of the island of Mindanao, for my own safety.

I had some of my fiancee's relatives asking me what I thought of the Hostage-Taking situation at the Qurino Grandstand, and I told them "dumb things like this happen every day all over the world...that day it happened here."

Two trips to Butuan City, Mindanao this year. Not once did I feel threatened. Yes I stick out in a crowd. Everywhere I went, the people were so very nice. Great place! Wish I could say that about the south side of Chicago.

PhilippinesUnlimited calls to Philippines, our experience so far

The brownouts do suck when it comes to Magic Jack. We used it and her family still has it installed. It's not all that convenient but the price is right :) At the suggestion of a member here, I set up a rebtel account and I've been very happy with that! It's only .06 a minute or so to call any phone anywhere in the Phils. Just throw 25 bucks into the account with my debit card, it posts instantly and away she goes

Thanks for the info. I just signed up for rebtel. I will give it a try tonight. I also spend $150 a month in phone calls. It would be nice to cut that down.

Thought I would be a good uncle and take the kids to McD's. They had never been to McD's. The kids wanted to go to Jolibee. I should have listened to the kids. 18 of us. 14 McDo's and 4 happy meals. About $24 US. But no rice with the happy meals. The kids were pissed! :crying:

I spent six weeks in Bayugan this summer. I ate at the Jolibee in the Butuan mall. I am now officially a fan. But I don't think there will be one here in San Antonio anytime soon. :(

Ate at the Jolibee in Butuan. Much rather eat a McDoo at McD's. Better yet, some good barbecue at a local place close to the mall.

PhilippinesCFO certificate

Wow...I didn't realize they had this requirement. We got married Jan 2009, and I applied for a renewal of my passport in my married name on Aug 2009. They processed it without a hitch.

On the DFA website, it says:

If you would like to use the surname of your spouse:

  • Marriage Contract (MC) in Security Paper issued by NSO and Certified True Copy issued by the Local Civil Registrar if MC secpa is unreadable.
  • Certificate of Attendance from CFO (Commission of Filipino Overseas) if married to a foreigner (color green).
Since I applied for mine 7 months after we were married, then I am guessing the information your wife received is true also.

Thanks for the info. I am very happy that we were married in the Philippines, but because of all the red tape we have been through, I kind of wish we just went the K-1 route.

PhilippinesCFO certificate
My wife went to get her application for her passport today. They told her that because she is married to a foreigner, she will need the take the CFO class first then she can apply for her passport. Or she can apply without the CFO class after 7 months of mariage. Has anyone else been told this? Thanks!

PhilippinesFlorist - Central Mindanao

Hello!

As the title suggests, I'm looking for a florist who can deliver to my sweetie in Valencia City, in the middle of Bukidnon, in the middle of Mindanao, roughly half way between Davao and Cagayan de Oro, closer to CDO.

I hope to use a service which at least one other person here has used themselves, so that I know it's legitimate and reliable, instead of just finding one with Google.

And if by some blessing there happens to be more than one to choose from, I'd hope for one which can manage the difficult task of delivering tulips. (Difficult because they're a cold-weather seasonal flower not grown in most parts of the Philippines)

Thanks in advance!

Try islandrose.net. I have ordered from them many times. They have been great for me so far. I dont think they have Tulips though. My wife lives in Mindanao also and I have never had a problem. Better hurry!

PhilippinesGetting married in Manila

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this forum and seeking some of your experiences with applying for a marriage license in Manila.

I made an appointment with the US Embassy in Manila for Affidavit to Contract Marriage. The lady I spoke with at the US Embassy provided me with the requirements in obtaining this affidavit. She was kind enough to provide additional details that in applying for a marriage license in Manila, my divorce papers need to be "authenticated" by the Philippine Consulate before city hall will accept my marriage license application. How true is this? She did reiterate that this is NOT a requirement of the US Embassy.

I've conducted several searches and am unable to validate this. I'm leaving for Manila next week and my divorce papers are certified original documents. Has anyone encountered this situation? I'd appreciate your responses.

Thank you all!

Don't forget to get your CENOMAR while in Manila. And better bring a wad of cash. It helps with the process.

PhilippinesMiddle Names

Have your wife go back to NBI and get them to change it. Only takes 1 day. Tell them they made a mistake, and they will correct it. (hopefully)

Called NVC. They said it's be no big deal. It happens all the time. They'll just match the passport copy name to the visa. I'll have her get a new NBI for the interview.

PhilippinesMiddle Names
Our I130 has been approved.
Now I find out from my wife that her middle name as changed now that she is married. From her mothers maiden name to my wifes maiden name.
Her NBI has her old middle name on it with her new married name. But her passport and other IDs have her new middle name with her new married name. Now what do I do.

PhilippinesTravel Websites

I checked asaptickets.com, really great prices there, thanks Scott and Mhay! But I think that's good if travel from US to Philippines. What I've found in cheapoair.com is cheaper.

Here, I have a concern.

These are my researches:

The same airlines from Manila, Philippines to Beijing, China then from Beijing, China to New York. JFK will be the POE. Then from JFK to Boston, it will be a different plane. Total for this is $756. I did the cheapoair.com.

However, I tried to research it separately. The Manila to New York. Same schedule and planes above then I researched New York to Boston, still same same from above. BUT it's cheaper if booked separately. It's $732.

So, I'll go with bulk booking or separately?

Dont forget all the baggage fees if you book seperately

PhilippinesMen Your Thoughts On Filipina

I married her for her broken English. It's just adorable. And how she irons my shirts, and how she always has a hot cooked meal for me, even when I come home drunk at 2am. And that she's like a little sports car, revving and ready for me to take her for a ride, even if she's been slaving over the hot stove all day. All the hype about these Filipinas is TRUE! She even thinks my rolls of fat and baldness make me look guapo. It was money well spent!

Yes, my wifes english always puts a smile on my face.

Hope you were not bitten and sucked by lady bedbugs from the bars in Olongapo! :star:

PhilippinesMen Your Thoughts On Filipina

 Mine too. Does she show you sexy, sexy when it's just the two of you chatting online? Was she your first pick or did you have to go through several profiles to find her?

Hahaha thats private. I was stationed in Subic in the late 80's, so I was bitten by the Filipina bug early. Finaly made it back in 2009 to meet a very nice, but too young (19) girl. So I kept trying to meet a nice, simple, older, and funny woman. I met my wife and have been back there twice. I have never felt jealous. So happy that I found her.

PhilippinesBDO near St. Luke's

Be Aware that banks and banking systems are scams in Philippines.

They only inure (PDIC) each depositor like P 500,000 at the bank, which is only like $11,000.

And banks go under and out of business quite a bit.

Just a FYI.................

Won't have to worry about the $11,000 haha. Sounds like the banks are about the same as here (going under).
Thanks everyone!
