IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIncome Requirements and I-864
I have looked into similar situations and it seems that even though my tax year last year wasn't enough to sponsor my husband, my current wages would be enough. I make commission at my job and even if I just make my regular pay (no commission) for the rest of the year added to my current total pay I make more than required by the annual poverty guidelines. It appears from my research that I could use this as my current individual income on line 23 of the I-864. Can someone confirm this is true for me?

So if this is true, I can make a guess as to what my W2's will be for 2013? I am going with the lowest possible estimate which is more than enough to sponsor him.

Thanks for your comments on this topic. That clears it up. I will have to wait for the 5 years of residency before i consider applying for US Citizenship.

US Citizenship General DiscussionCitizenship from Green Card - married to newly US Citizen

I am hoping someone might be able to clarify if I may be eligible to apply for US Citizenship (from Green Card) sooner due to my wife becoming a US Citizen in June 2013.

My wife and I are both Canadian and have both green cards. She applied for her US Citizenship in February and we expect her to receive her US Citizenship between May and August 2013. At that point, i will have been a US resident for 3.5 years. I will be married to a US Citizen and thus wondering if i would quality to apply for US Citizenship soon after my wife gets her citizenship.

I understand that when you get a green card you have to reside in US for 5 years before you can apply for US Citizenship. I also understand that if you marry a US Citizen, the path to citizenship involves residing in US for 3 years rather than 5.

I would appreciate if anyone has any feedback on this matter.

CanadaAmerican to Canadian | what and how to file?
My Wife and I just recently got married in Nov, we filed a K1 and are still awaiting the decision for permanent residency.

We also have been entertaining the idea about moving back to Canada for Family reason's ( Father ill and other Family matters)
So I wanted to know...?

1. what Visa will we need to file
2. How long will this process take.
3. I am American, will I be able to to travel back and forth from Canada to the States while we are filing?

Can anyone point me in the right direction to this forum or provide some insight or links that may answer these questions along with a few others that I am sure will come up?

Thank you.
