K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresK3 or CR1?
Thanks everyone for your responds! You are all very helpful biggrin.gif !
Yeah, the CR1 seems like the best option for us but Do you know if during the process we still can visit each other?
After applying for the CR1 while we are waiting can I enter the US just to visit for a few days?

Thanks smile.gif

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresK3 or CR1?
Hello! I'm new in this forum... I was so happy when I discovered because in the internet I found so many different information and reading this forum as cleared so many questions smile.gif

I'm Canadian and my fiancé is a US citizen. We have been dating for 3 years.
I study in Montreal, Qc and he's been studying in Miami, Fl. We visit each other a lot, we spend all our vacation together (mostly I'm the one who spend all the summer in Miami like 3 months and he comes to Montreal for the spring and winter break). I've never had any problem crossing the border, they all been nice to me (I just tell the truth that I'm visiting friends.. they don't ask me personal question, so I don't say more than they ask me).

He propose like a year and half ago and now we are ready for the big move. He is doing is Phd so I have to come to the US. Now the big question is for what visa apply... We think of spending the summer (2009) together, in Miami, as we have been doing and having our engagement party/wedding celebration party with his part of the family and then at the end of the summer go back to Montreal and get married there.
Then he will apply for a Spouse visa. (Getting married like this is better for us because I'll be finishing school and working (in Montreal) while all the process takes place). We didn't want to do the K-1 because I can not spend so many time without visiting my family..

Now, what we don't know is should we been applying for the K-3 Spouse visa or the CR-1 Spouse Visa?
Which one cost less money? Also, which one will be faster?

Also I would like to stat studying and working soon enough after we will be install together.

Thank you very much!

CanadaUS citizen getting married in Montréal, Qc with a Canadian Citizen
QUOTE (childress_london @ Mar 25 2009, 09:35 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My husband and I got married in Ottawa. We had no problems. However, at customs when they asked the purpose of my visit, believe it or not, I forgot I was getting married and said I was there to see my boyfriend. LOL. They always make me nervous because they ask so many invasive questions. So I don't know if it would have made a difference if I had said I was there to get married. Now when I enter and I say I'm there to see my husband, sometimes they ask to see proof of a round trip ticket.

Jejeje thanks for sharing.. That's the kind of omission that needs to be done, not saying that he is coming to Montreal to get married to me lol.

CanadaUS citizen getting married in Montréal, Qc with a Canadian Citizen
Thanks a lot for all the answer!!
I'm less worried now.. I will check the website thank you very much.

Right, he is not coming to Canada with the intention of staying, just the wedding and visit me, later he will apply for the CR1 that way I'll go and live with him in the USA..
We have been together for 3 years and now we are ready to get married. His family want to visit Montreal so the perfect occasion is the wedding =).
We have been traveling without any problem.

Thanks again.

CanadaUS citizen getting married in Montréal, Qc with a Canadian Citizen
Hi everybody,

My fiancé and I want to get married in Montreal in the summer... After that he will file a CR1 visa for me to immigrate to USA.. He lives in Miami,Fl and I love in Montreal. We will get married in the court house and I already have the paper that we need to have the marriage license but I haven't went to the court house because I've been hesitating, I'm scared that because he is not a Canadian Citizen or Resident, they will report it to the immigration and when he will come to Montreal in the summer, they will deny the entry and loose all the money for the wedding etc..
So my question is: Can he enter as a visitor and get married her in Canada without any problem? and Is it possible that the court house will advice the immigration (Quebec or Canada) that he wants to get married here with me and then deny his entry??

Thank you!

CanadaQuestion about the I-130
Thank you all for your answers smile.gif

I wasn't sure about sending all original papers or not. I'll send copies and a few pictures that show our 3 1/2 years relationship plus some wedding pictures.
For the certified translator it is for the 2nd part of the visa process

I found this on the U.S departement of State:

''Translation Requirements
All documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator that states that the:

* Translation is accurate, and
* Translator is competent to translate. ''

Because I speak French and Spanish too, so I could translate all the documents that are not in English. But, the say certified translation, so I don't know if it as to be a certified translator. In Quebec, the translator that are accepted by the government are part of a professional order and have a ID number and a stamp. So I don't know if it is like that in the U.S..

CanadaQuestion about the I-130
Hi!
My husband and I are getting together all the papers to send the CR-1 visa.
Regarding the I-130 package I have some questions that I hope you can help me smile.gif

1) Regarding the proof of bonifide relationship/marriage I made a compilation of all our pictures (including the ones from our wedding), I have all my phones bills and they all show that I called him several times, I have all my boarding passes plus the reservation from expedia with the payment, also we have saved all our emails. My question is should I send my original phone bills our just send a few, also should I send my boarding passes or should I make photocopies and save it for the interview??

I'm just scared of sending all my ''proofs'' and then not having them if I need it later..

2) Does anyone have a sample of the cover letter?? I have no idea how to set it.

3) Does anyone knows how to find a certified translator? Have to be one in the USA? (I have documents in Spanish as for the police record I'm trying to figure it out where to find a translator

Thanks, hope you can help me wink.gif

CanadaWhat can I bring with me when moving to the US?
HI,

We finish sending all the documents and form to the NVC and now are waiting for the consulate (Montreal) to pass the medical and the interview.
Meanwhile I'm trying to figure out what to bring with me once the Visa is approved.

My husband will come and pick me up in Montreal and we will put all my things in is car. But, how does it work, What am I allowed to bring with me? Like furniture, bed, electronics, clothe...? Is there some sort of rule or limit of things I can bring with me, like I can bring for 1500$ worth of things.. Or is it taxable?

I'm just trying to figure out this now so I can be ready if I have to sell/give stuff that I can not bring...

Thanks

MarieCookieFemaleCanada2010-10-12 09:36:00
CanadaHow to choose DHL location
I register in the CSC visa website http://canada.usvisa-info.com/ after I received my interview date because I wanted to choose my DHL location but I still don't understand how to do it, the only thing I see is:

Applicant Information
XXXXX XXXXX , XXXXX XXXX [Edit] Primary Applicant
Passport Number: XXXXXXXX Reference ID: XXXXXXXX
Date of Birth: XX-XXX-XXXX

Appointment Information
You currently have no appointment scheduled.

How come I don't have and appointment date??? I put my passport number, date of birth and country. I choose the NVC scheduled appointment option. Then I put all my info and I still cannot see anything regarding DHL. And at any moment I saw my interview being Jan. 13th.
Maybe, wasn't my info but my husband (the US citizen) that I had to put...

Very confused :S Please help!!!

CanadaWhat to bring for the interview??
Hello my interview is Jan. 13th. I was wondering what I should bring to the interview. In the interview letter they ask me to bring 3 passport picture, the letter and my passport. Then I the letter I have a kind of check list of all the papers that I sent in the * Document Status Description and NOTICE TO VISA APPLICANTS it says that:

Visa Interview Requirements
XXXX XXXXX XXXXX must bring the following to the visa interview:
* Any original documents that were requested by the NVC but were not submitted
to the NVC
* The medical examination results if not submitted to the Embassy/Consulate by
the physician
* The correct size and number of photographs
* Valid passport for all traveling applicants

The following table lists the documents requested by the NVC and whether or not the
NVC received them. Please note that even though the applicant may have provided
the NVC with a copy of a document, the applicant is still required to bring the
original document to the visa interview.

In the list the received all the original and it doesn't say to bring the document for example there is a ''I = The required form is incomplete. Please ensure that a complete form is presented at the interview.'' but for all my documents it says ''Y = The required document has been received''. So should I bring all those documents anyway or don't bother and just bring what I was ask in the interview letter??

CanadaDHL or Xpresspost for MTL consulate

No reference number there. Maybe it's too early? It also says 'no interview schedule' and lists the next available date. Is this because my interview is already done?

CanadaIR1 / CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview

More people are asking me where I found all that information. Here are the detailed steps for how I found it.

I started out by visiting http://www.immigrantvisas.state.gov.

From there, click "prepare for your visa interview abroad" and it will take you here: http://travel.state..../info_3731.html

From there, click "Review the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General-specific Interview Guidelines." and it will take you here: http://travel.state..../info_3742.html

Choose MTL as the consulate and click the button to download a PDF file with specific details for Montreal interviews. That is the same PDF file I posted a link to before. Here it is again: http://travel.state....L-0008-1009.pdf

Inside that PDF file it says to visit the other NEW scheduling site to choose your DHL location: http://canada.usvisa-info.com/

You log in there by clicking the link in the bottom right corner of the main page to schedule an appointment online. It's confusing because you won't actually schedule an interview; it was already scheduled for you by the NVC. Clicking that link takes you here: http://www.usvisa-in...lfservice/login

Check the "I have read..." box and click confirm. Now you enter your passport number and personal info, enter the captcha phrase and log in. For your first visit, you may have to click "schedule an appointment" or "add applicant", I can't remember exactly. If you have already done this previously you will see applicant details displayed, and you can modify those details by clicking "schedule an appointment". Again, very misleading because it doesn't actually let you schedule an appointment until later on. This sequence of forms is for filling out your trip purpose and DHL location.

NOTE: From here on I cannot provide the URL links because they are specific to your passport number and you have to be logged in.

You will get to a point where it asks you for your "Trip Purpose" and you have about two dozen options to choose from. Select the 3rd option from the end of the list "Permanently Immigrate to the US (Scheduled by NVC)".

Next it asks you for the consulate and the only choice available should be Montreal.

Next it asks you for your DHL courier location where you want your visa mailed to. I used Google Maps to figure out which one was closest for us.

Next it displays an information page with three expandable topics giving information about how to prepare for the interview. That is the information that I posted yesterday in the forum.

Next, you have the chance to add more family members or log out. DO NOT proceed with scheduling an interview! Once all applicants have been added and the DHL location selected you are done.

Finally, I found more specific information about the Montreal Consulate on their web site: http://montreal.usconsulate.gov. There is a phone number for the consulate posted there. I haven't tried calling it but if you are unsure about anything you could try calling them: 514.398.9695

CanadaIR1 / CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview
I know it is discouraging but we need to keep having faith that all this will be over eventually.
And, soon this will be just something to remember when times are roughs and will help us appreciate
more our spouses. A lot of the couples that I know take for granted the day to day moments that the spend with their spouses.
So lets be patient (I know is hard) it will be worthed.

Congratulation to all who got the interviews!! And for the others I can feel is coming soon too!!
I have a question, The interview are assigned according to when was the case completed at the NVC or also/when you started the process?
Like we started in Nov. 2009 but my case was completed just in August due to the delay in the mail processing at the NVC...

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVaccination Requirements for IV Applicants
Thanks to all for your answers smile.gif
It is so great to share our fears here.
Well I'm going to the doctor next week and I'll ask to verify if I have all the vaccines that I need, as a child we moved a lot so I'm not sure if I got all my shots. And as for the HVP shots I was thinking to get it anyway, but I was saving my money, if I get it with my regular doctor I don't think it is a big deal, isn't?

Have a evening!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVaccination Requirements for IV Applicants
Hi I'm 22 years old, my husband (U.S) and I (Canadian) are about to send the I-130 for the CR-1. I'm trying to get all the papers that we will need eventually for the next part. I read that they are vaccination that are required like Hepatitis A etc.. But also Human papillomavirus (HPV), my question is should I get it now? I know that it is 3 shots and that is like 6 month process have to wait like 2 moths or so between shots. So, should I wait for the medical examination and see if the ask me to have it or should I get it now? I've hesitate to get it because it is 500$ (CAD) not covered by the health insurance. Also, what happens if I don't have all the vaccines required? Do I have to pay for the one that I'm missing?

http://travel.state..../info_1331.html

Thanks
