CanadaPKT3 Questions

The only thing you send back with Packet 3 is the forms that have been filled out.

Everything else that's listed on the checklist is brought to the interview in Montreal.

Evidence of support goes with the I-134 Affidavit of Support. Yes, it needs to prove that your fiance (or a co-sponsor) will be able to support you once you've moved. This evidence of support includes things like a letter from an employer, three years of tax returns, pay stubs, bank statements, etc.

Thank you so much! Like almost everyone, i cant wait until this journey is over. And iv probably been over thinking every step of the way, but thankfully everything can go in the mail in the morning. thanks again

CanadaPKT3 Questions
Hey everyone,

Im new posting on here, and first off i wanna say that iv been going through the forums regularly and have found them SO helpful throughout this whole stressful process.
We are now at the packet 3 stage and i just want to be sure that i have everything exactly right. The posts that iv found on the forum so far for this topic have been mostly from last year and i know bureaucratic things can change. I have filled out all the forms that they have asked us to, ( DS- 160 x1 submitted online with a print out and print out of conformation. DS-156k x1, DS-156 x2, and the DS-230 x1) Iv gone through the check list the Montreal consulate sent to us making sure i have everything they ask, or that its at least on its way in the mail to me. Like the police certificate name clearance. But its from my understanding that NOT all of the things that are on the checklist need to go into the PKT 3 with the forms. Is this correct? I found my own checklist that i had made up by hand as well. I think i copied it form a post i found on here. At the top of my own checklist i have written: Documents that must be attached in pkt3 in order to proceed. this checklist includes:
-Birth Certificate
-Death Certificate of spouse (if any)
-Marriage Certificate (if any)
-Divorce Decree (if any)
-Police Certificate (CPIC)
-Evidence of Engagement to your Fiance
-Evidence of Financial Support
-Photocopy of Biographic data on passport
My question is, well is this correct? Do all of these need to be submitted with the forms of PKT3 to the Montreal Consulate? Does the copy of the approved NAO2 also need to be submitted as well with pkt3? What exactly does Evidence of Support mean? Is it from my Fiance on how he will support me once i moved to the U.S.? Am i missing anything??
we hope to get this in the mail by tomorrow but if the CPIC actually needs to be there too this will delay us as i am still waiting for it to arrive in the mail. I am sorry for sounding like i am over-thinking all this but i jsut dont want things to get messed up after coming this far. Thanks for all your support and patients.

CanadaMontreal Medical-a few questions
oh also, i know this is a lot of questions im just SO worried! Can anyone give me a glimpse into the question they ask at the medical? Will my past of 10 years ago really come back to bite me in the butt?

CanadaMontreal Medical-a few questions
I thought i wouldnt have any more questions from here on out but i guess i was wrong. And i'll probably end up having more after this too. I think after packet 3was done,iv just gotten even more paranoid and worried about every little thing, wanting to make sure that it'll done right and we dont miss or forget anything. I have my interview date in montreal scheduled for mid October. My questions are regarding the medical before the interview. We're going to be using the Medysis clinic. I will also be getting all the required vaccinations ahead of time at a travel clinic. But iv read a few different thing about the medical appointment and i need to make sure i pass this. i have had quiet a few medical issues in the past mostly more when i was a teen, which have all pretty much been solved yet with the exception of a few little things. What i'v read si that you have to bring any previous medical records and chest x-rays with you to the medical. is this true? iv been to SO many doctors over my life and i dont think i'd be able to access each and every record from each and every doctor.especial living in montreal, everything here takes forever.
I guess i should explain a little more. As a teenage i did have some depression issues, being suicidal, and some self harm issues. I do not have any scars tho. During this time i was also in and out of the hospital with stomach problems. this went on until about two years when we (my family and I) heard about Celiac disease. I immediately went on a Gluten free diet. Since then things have improved tremendously. No more depression and no more being sick. In September i will be seeing my gastroenterologist and he will be providing me with a letter stating all of this and that all is now under control with proper diet. Next question, will this one letter be enough to cover everything else that had gone wrong in my past? Especially if there are no current problems? Do i really have to provide old medical records stating all of this? and, if not, if this is no longer an issue (no depression or other medical issues) do i really have to admit to all of the past problems i had at the interview? im SO scared and so worried, has anyone had similar issues? can anyone gone through the visa process with Celiac before? if anyone out there can please help me with this i'd feel so much better! thanks.

CanadaSpouse Visas waiting for interview in Montreal
we called ahead to find out when our packet 3 was logged and went straight to booking our interview from there. It was logged on July 7th (we called on the 8th) but i didnt receive and e-mail notice until the 13th of July. I was toled things have been slower then usual at montreal due to the postal strike which made them even more back logged then they already were and with all the holidays it isnt speeding n e thing up. keep calling the NVC to see if u'v been logged yet and then rush over tot he website and book your interview. we managed to get an interview date for October 19th. Hope this helps you some. good luck!!

CanadaTrouble scheduling an interview in Montreal
yup that would be the right page. i dont think there is a best time or day. possibly early early morning. montreal is slow and packed (just like everything else in this city!!) cancellations become available at random, and new dates open pretty much whenever. its a game of luck. and its work. sitting there all day clicking refresh everyday until you see something open up. you could get click and happen to click right when theres a cancellation and get a sooner date. but just keep at it. good luck!!

CanadaOctober 2011 Montreal Interviews

Ok question.. the appointment letter... is that just the confirmation from the same website I booked my interview? I sure hope so! I will definitely report back when it is all done... :)

for my medical they asked for the same thing, i brought a print out of that confirmation page and my packet four with my case number on it. The receptionist only took the page from pkt4 with my case number. I'd have both just in case, better to have to many pieces of paper then not enough.

CanadaOctober 2011 Montreal Interviews

I know it's crazy! I ran into other DCF'ers at the medical and their cases had taken way longer. And even when I first applied at the consulate they warned me it would be over 6mths, and probably closer to a year. I think I really lucked out with my appointment date and just logged on at the right time. I'd prepared myself for it take way longer, and now it's all happened so fast I'm not really ready to go and am having to seriously hustle! But I guess I can't complain;)

We started the process in January. I dont think it matter how long or short your wait is, ud still endup hustling and rushing around. i am. i'm ready for this but at the same time i'm not trying to pack box's and watching the days tick by, they felt so slow at the beginning and as fast as i want them to go by im also not totally ready either.

CanadaWhat to do in Montreal
Ok, so lots of you are coming into Montreal for your interviews. A lot of you will be here for a decent chunk of time, so i thought I'd create a page of interesting places to see and visit to in Montreal. I'll give the locations, or at least metro stops of where a lot of these places are. If anyone ever has any questions you can always message me and i'll help you out as best i can. I've lived in Montreal my whole life and know the area pretty well. The best way to get anywhere is by metro. so first i recommend that you go down into one of the metros (subway) and get an Opus bus card. This is a rechargeable card that you can load with tickets, day passes, weekly passes, or monthly passes. Getting the card and day a three day pass, instead of paying each individual time is really worth it. you can save a lot of money by doing it this way. or with the weekly pass. This lets you ride the bus and metro system as many times as you wish. If you pay each individual time,(same with the "pack" of tickets) the transfer you get is only good for 2 hours and you cant use it to get back into the metro system. so the weekly or three day pass is really very worth it.The price for one ticket or entry into the bus or metro is 3.00$ for regular fare. and 2.50$ for kids. Children under 3 years of age are free.
Okay transport info out of the way, lets get down to the business of what to do and see....
Montreal has a lot of museums to visit if you like that sort of thing. All conveniently located in the downtown area.

*McCord museum-690 Sherbrooke Street West-Metro McGill (Green Line)- "It celebrates Montréal life past and present—its people, its artisans, its communities, its metropolitan area."

*Montreal Museum of Fine Arts-1379 Sherbrooke Street West-Metro Guy Concordia, or Peel (Green Line). Also an easy walk from McGill metro if you go right down Sherbrook.- This Museum promots the work of Canadian and international artists past and present.

*Museum of Contemporary Arts-185 Sainte-Catherine Street West-Metro Place-Des-Arts (Green Line)- Canada's premier museum devoted exclusively to contemporary art,it's a superb place to discover the wealth of Québec creativity and leading international trends.

*Canadian Centre for Architecture-1920, rue Baile, between St-Marc and rue Du Fort.Metro-Guy-Concordia (Green Line).- "this museum is to promote public understanding, and widening thought and debate on architecture, its history, theory, practice, and role in society today"
Montreal has a lot of other museums as well but i wont waste all the time tell you each of them.
Other cool and interesting places to walk around and see the sites of montreal are

*Old Montreal and The old Port-anywhere around Saint-François-Xavier Street,Place Jacques-Cartier and De la Commune est-Metro Place-D'Armes(Orange Line). Theres always interesting things to do and see around here. Also you so have to stop and eat a Beaver Tail while your hear. It's a pastry junk food kinda thing. so yummy!

*Botanical Gardens and Insectarium-4101 Rue Sherbrooke Est-Metro Pie-IX (Green Line) This place is huge. If you plan on visiting plan this to be a days trip. Throughout October they are having a Lanterns Festival. It looks really pretty.

*Biodome-4777 Avenue Pierre-de Coubertin-Metro Viau (Green Line)-This is the closest thing montreal has to a zoo. It's fun for kids. Takes about 2 hours to go through the whole thing if you take your time. Also located right near the Olympic Stadium which you can tour and take an elevator right to the top and see the island of montreal.

*LaRonde- and Ile Sainte-Hélène, 22 Chemin Macdonald Metro-Longueuil(Yellow Line) This is montreals amusement park. It's also a neat little park and island that was created by the earth that was left over when they created the metro tunnels. Nice place to walk around in the park and relax, gives you a different perspective of the rapids and river. Laronde is now owned by Six-Flags, It has some cool rides, aswel as some fun haunted houses and activities for Halloween. Because it is "off season" now, it's only open on the weekends until October 30th. oh and it get real cold over there especially up on the rides.

*Mount-Royal- ya gotta check out the look-out and get an amazing view of the island from up here.Easiest way i can tell you to get here is Metro-Guy Concordia and bus 166. it's approximately 7 stops up the hill and just past the hospital. You can walk straight up the hill from Guy metro but it's long and the hill is a lil steep. You can also get here from Metro McGill, walk straight up University street, turn left at the top of the hill (Avenue des Pins) walk along this street you'll see stairs going up to the mountain.
Foods. Places you must eat at.

Dunns smoked meat.-1249 Metcalfe St (Metro Peel)People rave about Montreal's smoked meat. Check it out yourself.

Bagels. K so apparently Montreal has like the best bagels anywhere. There are a lot of places to get these amazing bagels. and here area few.

St-Viateur-263 Rue Saint Viateur Ouest, Metro Du Parc (Blue Line)-The bagel shop operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and serves over 12000 bagels a day

Fairmount-74 Avenue Fairmount Ouest,-Metro Laurier (orange line) Fairmount Bagel is the original Montreal bagel bakery in Montreal, Quebec

LeFaubourge-1616 Sainte-Catherine Street West-Metro Guy-Concordia.They have bagels here to and iv heard their good. but i honestly don't know. i know you can watch them being made through the windows from the street, its kinda neat.

Montreal Poutine-161 St-Paul E- located in the old port.Metro Place D'armes (Orange line). When in Montreal you MUST try a poutine!

ONoir-1631 Ste-Catherine West-Metro Guy Concordia (Green Line)-This is a resteraunt you so need to check out. 5% of O.NOIR's profits are given to support local associations that serve blind and visually impaired people. Just about all the staff that work in this restaurant are blind. Reservations are a must. The experience is like none other and food is amazing! The whole dinning experience is in the dark. Yes pitch black dark to give you a sense of how blind people live. Its so much fun and something you’ll never forget!

Cresent Street Metro Guy Concordia (Green Line) a street full of bars and brewrys

Saint-Laurent blvd metro st-Laurent-(Green Line) clubs, shopping and bars another hot night life spot, and day time shopping and caffe’s

if i think of any other interesting place's i'll add them and if there's places iv forgotten please add them as well. have fun and good luck to all of you.

congrats for getting approved! for TZ i dunno, each country and city is different from my understand. for Canada montreal they use DHL courier service and some places send it by mail. it takes about a week here from what iv read. i also read that one couple in TZ at the interview were given a notice to come back within a few days to pick up their visa and passport at the consulate they had their interview. but im guessing since u updated ur approval that u know this now...>.< congrats again tho!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHellppp!!!??!!
DO NOT DO IT!!!! it's just a long stressful process but not anything you cant do yourself. Especially with all the help you can get on VJ, its really not worth waiting money on a lawyer or attorney. I'v heard mega horror story's about getting one and its really really not worth it. Everyone on VJ is really helpful to any questions or confusions u may have about this whole process. It's really not a hard one. do it yourself. its only long a a bit stressful at times. but you guys can do it :) hang in there.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNeed Advice Please.
I ran into the same problem with the expiry date of my I-797. From what iv read at this stage it doesnt matter so much if it expires. just about EVERYONE who files through montreal gets theirs expired because montreal is so annoyingly slow! :bonk: and they dont look at the expiry date. from things iv read and from what i understand. As for your second question, im not 100% sure if u can continue without getting the packet 3 info. but i can help you to have everything pre paired and ready so when u DO get it you can jump right away to the next stage and send off your documents right away. i have my checklist here for packet 3 and i'd be happy to let you know whats on it and what ur gonna need to get and do and what forms you'll have to fill out. send me a message and i'll let you know what you need :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan I schedule the interview prior to getting pkt 4
Ypu JeannieL is right. Call DOS and ask if packet 3 was received and logged and from there u can go online and book your interview. this is what i did. i was told that things for montreal have been delayed and back logged (more then usual) due to the postal strike. good luck! We got our email notification about 2-3 weeks after we had already called and found our packet three had been logged and the received packet 4 hard copy in the mail about 4 weeks later. calling ahead saves you lots of waiting time.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-134 or I-864
Hey all, once again i have another question for you guys. As our interview date is SLOWLY approaching, (1 month and 29 days away now yaaay!) and we'r trying to gather up all the required forms and go over everything to be sure we'r not missing anything, we've gotten a little confused over something. i just wanted to clarify and make sure we've got this right so if anyone can give me an input of this, it would be greatly appreciated. It is from my understanding that we only to fill out the I-134 affidavit of support for the interview, and we fill out the I-864 AFTER i'v arrived in the U.S. and are doing the AOS. Is this correct? or do we need to fill out both the I-134 and the I-864 for the interview? If anyone can help us figure this out and calm my brain it would be awesome!! thanks to all of you for all your support along this road, we couldn't have made it here without all of you. finally we'r soooo close!! Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical Worries
thanks guys! got the medical booked no problem. october 6th. now just for the rest. busy packing now. and got an appointment with the g.p. on the 22nd. the only lil worry i have now, i think, is that the meds im on is not from my g.p. it was from a walk-in clinic. but if my g.p. writes the letter explaining what the meds are for ect, even tho he wasnt the prescribing dr, it should still be ok right?
tolowynFemaleCanada2011-09-16 12:23:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical Worries
I feel like the questions for you guys will never stop flowing! The scariest biggest worry right now seems to be the medical. Iv done a lot of reading on here about how other peoples medicals went and that has calmed a few nerves done. (yeah only a few) but thanks to all who have posted their experiences. This time i have three questions for you guys. 1) what are the questions on the medical history form that they ask you to fill out in the waiting room? is there someone i can get a sample of the questions and look this over??
2) if you have pre-existing medical conditions, or used to when u were younger but now don't, is there a form i need to print out and take to my family Dr for him to fill out so i can bring it to the medical appointment for that Dr? or does my G.P. simply write on a blank sheet of paper, this patient was being treated for *blank* but is now medically sound. This patient is taking *X* medications for *Y* thing but all is medically under control?
This whole part if really freaking me out cuz i know if we get this wrong by the medical interview it will slow things down MEGA. my last(i hope) and 3rd question is, we plan on doing the medical at Medisys in montreal. I'v been on the website but cant find where or how to book an appointment with them. Our interview date is October 19th and i feel like we'r running out of time, even tho at the same time it feels like it cant come fast enough. For anyone in montreal, you know how slowly our Dr's can move and how dismissive and hardly helpful they are, im worried i wont be able ot get whatever it is i need to get from them before the medical appointment/interview. and i havnt book the medical yet. Anyone who can help me answer these worries and help me keep some of the hair left on my head from being pulled, and all my nails from being bitten, would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you, once again, all.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical Review
Hey everyone. So i had my medical done today with Medisys in Montreal and thought that i'd give you guys the run down of how it all went. First let me say, for any of you that are stressing over this, SO DONT!!! it was such a breeze! My appointment was for 10:30 but we got there for 10:00. I went with my dad, i suggest having someone go with you because it just gives you someone to talk to and helps pass the time. I'll be honest i was stressed and worried about this all night and this morning. Parking is a little tricky tho, i suggest taking the metro or buss, or just park in one of the many parking lots scattered downtown because paying for parking on the street comes up to the same price as using one of the lots.
So i walked in and registered. All the receptionist wanted was my passport, medicare card, the sheet from packet 4 with my case number, and vaccination booklet. I gave all this to her, she handed me a clip board with one sheet (two sided) paper of questions on it.Before i had a chance to sit down ad write my name on the sheet, i was called in to get the chest x-rays done. I walked into a room and the nurse person told me to go into a room, take off my shirt and bra and necklace and put on the gown and they'd call me. I then followed her in to have the x-rays taken and then back into the room to wait another minute while they looked at the x-ray to make sure it was ok and then i could get dressed again.
Back to the waiting room for another long wait. Where i had a chance to finish filling out the form. Ok let me say, before i went for the medical, having to fill out this form and not knowing what questions were going to be on was really freaking me. Seriously, dont sweat over this! They are just question like have u ever had a stroke, heart attack, TB, any STD's, suicide attempts, diabetes, any sort of drug or alcohol abuse, surgery's, hospitalization, allergies, chicken pox, tobacco use, asthma, what medications are you taking. thats really pretty much it. I handed in the form and waited for the Dr. to call me.
Once in his office he reviewed this form with me, asked me why im taking the medication im taking, and verified the surgery's i had said that i had done and what the reason was for the my most recent hospital stay. He then put me behind a curtain and told me to take everything except underwear and socks off, and put the gown on. He came in looked in my ears, my throat, and my eyes, reflexes, took blood pressure, listened to my breathing, felt my abdomen and asked if i had n e pain i said no. He then told me to stand up, checked my spine if it was straight asked if i have any back pain, i said no. Then he told me to get dressed and go back out to wait. I had brought notes from my dr. explaining medical conditions and the list of medication im on and the medication itself but he didnt want to see it. I went back to the waiting room for another looooong wait.
Honestly the waiting is the hardest part. Finally i was then called into another nurses room, where she weighed me, took my height, told me to stand behind the black line and read the second to last line on an eye chart with my glasses on, then told me to take them off and read whatever smallest line i could see without my glasses. Then she took a blood sample to test for Syphilis, and told me all my shots were up to date. i said but i havnt had the flu vaccine is that ok, she said yup we dont start that in Canada yet we start later then they do in the U.S. i was like oh ok. I was then sent back again to the waiting room until the receptionist called me to pay. I paid the 215$ with no extra fees because i had no vaccines needed. She asked if i knew the address and direction to get to my interview, i said i think so, so she gave me a map and directions anyways and told me some of the closest hotels to stay at and that i could come pick up the results the day before the interview so i didnt lose anything. And that was that! easy! the whole thing took about 2 and a half hours. So defiantly bring a book and some snacks, and lots of toys and coloring books if your going with kids cuz there's nothing to do there. Staff is all very friendly. And its a really nice clean place. And really dont stress it!!
Interview in 13 days now yaaay!!!
Good luck to all of you out there!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureshelp! running out of time!
thanks for helping. i have a huge feeling its gonna endup taking that way to. we didnt make any travels no one has plane tickets and we'r not renting the truck until i have the visa. our plan is only our plan with nothing in concrete for that reason. it just would be really amazing nice if it worked out in this time field. id really it if we could travel back together. if we run out of time hes gonna fly back and then we'll figure out a way to get me there. i cant drive, so i cant drive myself, and he cant drive the truck of my stuff over the boarder alone. so i'll just try and find someone who can drive to drive me the 23 hrs home. after a year of being apart, (i know some of you have been apart longer, and i honor you) i just dont want to have to leave him again, so i can keep sitting here waiting. blargh this whole thing just sucks n is so annoying.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresuhm OW! i need some help/advice....

Following is advice only. It doesn't replace a face to face consultation and I don't want to face retribution if it doesn't work! I'm assuming it's lower back and is due to the travel and lifting you described. If you have lost weight recently, have numbness, tingling etc then please go see someone. Otherwise you can try:

Lie down on the floor on your front, then push your upper body up using your hands until your arms are as straight as possible, with your legs relaxed and hips on the floor if poss. Try to 'relax' in that shape for up to 5 slow breaths. If you're not sure what I mean Google 'Mackenzie' position for back pain.

Relax, really relax, your back will be stiffening up so try to stop that happening by continually moving and not tensing your surface muscles. Don't sit still for more than 10 minutes. Do shoulder circles and gently move move move. Just walk around the room if you have to. If it's a disc, if it hurts to bend forwards, do back bends, if it hurts to do back bends, do forward bends...make sense? It should right itself within 3 days or you should see someone if it gets worse. Do pelvic floor exercises to encourage your deep supportive muscles to stay active and keep breathing slowly.

perfect thank you exactly what i wanted my mother and my mother in law toled me to yoga stretchs but i didnt know n e. so thank you for that. i suspect it has to do with all the moving work and stress. wer gonna try and find a clinic too. how long do you think i should tho. we think we found a cheap one should only be about 95$ for the visit. thank you enormus for this!!! dont worry i wont hold n e one responsible or n e thing.

Some folks here obviously mean well and are trying to be helpful, but let's please avoid practicing medicine without a license.
