CanadaVolunteer work while waiting for EAD?
But can we do volunteer work BEFORE we even get married (after entering with K-1), or BEFORE I apply for AOS (along with EAD and AP)? and without a SSN?

The information I got so far from this post is, yes we can after we applied for EAD or AOS.

I believe they were using the biometrics that were captured during the AOS process, if it was recent enough. There were no refunds if you paid for biometrics but did not actually have an appointment.

 

About half the people who applied for ROC in April and May didn't have a biometrics appointment - their biometrics from AOS were still "current". However June and onwards filers don't have any waived biometrics showing up, so perhaps USCIS changed their minds on this. 

 

 

Thank you Lainie. Why the April and May filers  biometrics from AOS is still valid? isn't everyone on the 2 year gc before they need to do ROC?

I heard for some people, if they went overseas from within a year before filing the i751 (because when they come back, at airport custom, they need to leave their fingerprint), they won't need a Biometrics? And in this case, USCIS won't refund you the Biometrics fee?

Do a change of address and make sure that you do a postal change of address as well. My wife's green card had been sent to an old address even after doing a change of address with immigration and the post office. It got bounced back to the government and then mailed out correctly. Interestingly enough it arrived with our notification of change of address. When we do the ROC I am going to go down to the post office and have them hold my mail. I am also going to call the tenants at my previous address. It is insane that something so important as a greencard/passport is put through the mail.

interesting you mentioned postal address too. After K1, we moved in Jan 2013, I sent my AR-11 by mail back then and got no reply or confirmation. then later this year the notice for ROC went to the old address (my family still lives there). Today I called USCIS, thinking they don't know my new address. They told me to do AR-11 again, i said i will do it online. But online it already shows my new address, that means they think my postal address is not changed but my address is???? confusing.

for the AOS we got email (and maybe text), this time only paper letters. our phone number and email never changed.

Hello Guys,

 

We mailed our I-751 application today instead of yesterday (Please update KASH2011 :-)) via USPS Priority Mail. Wish us luck (and 'grats to those who already have their biometrics appointments already).

 

Just wondering, how do you guys get updates on your applications? Do you receive text messages and emails just like the I-130 and AOS application updates?

 The biometrics was done so swiftly today. Appt was at 12noon, we got there at 11:40, only 3 people in front of me. All done and out of the door by 11:56. That is a record for government service :joy:

I used USPS 2 day priority mail (I wrote it in my post in this thread), it's fast enough, economical, tracking. I didn't add 'signature' because I heard it can be trouble on the other end.

 

I don't remember which particular one of USPS service i used since K1, but I only used USPS from the beginning.

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen. I too mailed my application on 9/12 (Vermont). We could've sent it a month ago but I was working 72h/week in august. I couldn't find the time to put the final pieces together therefore we sent it out six weeks before my GC expiration. I hope and pray that it is not too late.

Evidence I've submitted

I-751 form + extra page that that says we've moved from my hubby's house to an apartment and from our apartment back to the house. We support my husband's parents so it was just easier to pay mortgage instead of mortgage and rent.

2012 & 2013 taxes filled jointly
Copy of our health insurance card- both of our names listed
Copy of my husband's life insurance- I'm listed as beneficiary

Hello here! Some news from my side: got married on May 9th, and AOS sent end of May when we got the certified copies of our marriage certificate! NOAs received for AOS/EAD/AP and biometrics appt already scheduled. :)


Congrats!!!! i will have a civil wedding at SF city hall too. what's your experience there like? So May 9 to end of May is like 20 days to get your certified marriage certificate?

Got married Sunday, took the certificate down to the county house Monday, walked out with the certified copies.

BTW.. civil surgeon took all of 30 minutes to do the I-693 and no hassle about another physical.

You had wedding on Sunday? i thought civil weddings (in city hall or county offices) can only happen Mon-Fri. Weekend ones has to be in a church by a pastor.

with the civil wedding, i heard it can take many weeks until you get the certified marriage certificate from the day of civil?

ummmm I called the Department of State (USA) twice and both times they told me it is OK for me to file this in UK, I don't need to be in Australia (my home country) AT ALL to finish this. :innocent: I guess it's a good thing. But I'm not sure how I'm going to do the police check and other things from outside Australia, although my agent in UK once did it for me.

SO just to clarify this for others in the future.

Hi guys I have been reading the forum for a month now, got lots of good info. I have some questions still :unsure:

Im an Australian citizen, been working on working/holiday visa in UK since Nov 2010. Then met my boyfriend online in March 2011 this year, I came to USA met him in April, all going well, I stayed 20 days. Then i went back to UK to work. In July I came to see him again with my mum (cos we are serious), all going well, we want to get married later. But will do the K-1 route. I'm putting together the forms now, wanna submit it next week. I'm going back to UK to work in early Oct and wait for visa to process in London.

1. I put London UK as my address and embassy/consulate for Question 20 on the I-129 form. I can stay in UK until July 2012 at least, but looking at the time line, what if I wanna go back to Sydney to wait after July? If I go back to Sydney before they forward the documents to London, can I tell them to forward them to Sydney?

2. When I entered the USA this time (2nd time on VWP) they questioned me and said I'm high risk, even though I told them i'm here to get to know him, not marrying in these 90 days. They nearly sent me home, but let me pass and they took away my I-94, said I don't need it. So on I-129 form I can't fill in the I-94 number, is it a big issue?

3. The immigration officer at the airport said I can't come in with VWP or tourist visa for at least 3-4 months. So I really can't use it until next year? OR while K-1 is processing, they won't let me in unless I have work visa or student visa? So we can't see each other unless he comes to see me outside USA?

4. Form G-325, asks about my employment in the last 5 years. I work contract jobs since 2005 (there are more than 10), there are only 4 lines on the form, should I just list the last 4 or all the jobs in 5 years on additional piece of paper? :blink:

5. Does my boyfriend need to submit copies of his Naturalisation certificate? But it says 'can't be photocopied without lawful authority'????

6. Being aussie citizen, can I process this in UK?

7. I'm also in the process of getting a work visa for USA, as I'm an occupational therapist, I have to past the test, then the agent in USA will find me a company. What if the work visa got approved before K-1 visa, do I enter USA and ignore whichever stage I'm at with K-1?

did you press 'submit' at the end of the form? it should take you to the next page, which is a 2 page PDF, second page has a big barcode on it and some other lines of things, it's called an EVAF (electronic visa something). First page is mostly the info you just filled out, with a small barcode on the bottom right (in the form).

Many people are doing the same, including me, enter with K-1, get ready to be married (prepare AOS files before the registry 'marriage') then as soon as we are registered with the 'marriage certificate', we mail off the AOS. Stay and wait in USA until we get the temp green card (along with AP, work permit), it should take 3-4 months. As soon as we got AP, we go to my country for a big ceremony! :o) we don't sign any marriage paper outside USA of course.

Honeymoon can follow the oversea ceremony or if you are keen, have one in USA while waiting for AP.

If it's just a matter of helping them understand how to fill out the forms and ensuring they know what supporting materials to include before you leave, you can do that, but then once the NOA2 is received, they can make sure the information is still correct, sign the docs and send them off to you.

If the NOA2 doesn't arrive before your departure, they'll need to mail you a copy of the NOA2 anyway, so you'll still be waiting to get documentation from them.


if my usc fiance is doing the I-134 and he doesn't need a co-sponsor, does he sign the form on the bottom of page 2? OR is that space only for the co-sponsor?

As far as I know, they will not let you in when your K1 is in process, under no visa or visa waiver program (VWP), except when you have a work visa!!!!!

I got questioned so heavily and nearly got denied when i entered usa to see my fiance (before we filed K1) the second time on VWP, as I told them 'im here to see my boyfriend for 3 months (the whole of my VWP)'. They said 'im high risk', for Christ Sake, i'm an Aussie, not someone to stay in USA illegally for benefits! We have better welfare in Aus. :wacko:

and their service is so bad, and so slow.

the only good thing is there's a corner in the airport we can get free wifi.
