We want CSC to get cranking for you too ... I'll be hanging around here to cheer you folks on. Here we sit frustrated with weeks of waiting, knowing you likely have to endure months. My fingers are crossed for all of us ... but I know that we will all get them when we are supposed to.

Of course .... I might just scream, jump up & down and who knows what else if I get mine before the end of March .... Stephen will get to see me be like a little kid at the candy store laughing.gif

It's the waiting, waiting for that moment when you know everything is so much closer to beginning ... where you can be in the same place, and just be smile.gif There's a song "Just Be" by DJ Tiesto (never heard it before Stephen) but it's an absolutely amazing track ... and it's all about just being ... which we are all hoping & waiting for ... and we will all get to that point ........... soon!

Hope everyone is having a fabulous Wednesday!

Welcome back Gaye. smile.gif

Thanks, the time is slipping away already crying.gif We are thinking about going up to Berlin this weekend ... who knows, just something to get out smile.gif But I'm not going to fret over leaving just yet, I only got here a few days ago, and I don't leave until the end of month. So it will be that last weekend this month when it hits me blink.gif But I'll manage ... I'm just hoping we get lucky and maybe get our NOA2 while I'm over here visiting. Will just be a little sweeter if that happened.

Congratulations to all the new approvals! I'm still working London due to an extensions on my project, heading home Thursday, so I'm looking forward to sleeping in my own bed for once!

It's strange how quiet the approvals were for the last week or two. Hopefully that means a sea of them will come through shortly!

I know that feeling, I have to goto the UK for work once I finish my personal trip here to Germany. I think I get to go home for a few days, then head back. Maybe I can get them to postpone it for a week or two ... wacko.gif

I was excited the first time I was in London (although it was for business) and the underground!! And definitely, the tower bridge is one of my favorite areas. Parliament Square is a nice place to sit out during the day and walk around. And yeah, the kids in the bar thing blew my mind the first time I saw it! Cool. Gatwick isn't bad at all - Heathrow was always easiest because it is on the tube line wink.gif and my company's office in the UK is in Ealing, only about 10 minutes up the road from Heathrow on the tube!

You'll be fine on the flight ... and you'll do fine meeting his parents too!!! Just be you and everything will be alright!

Actually, just kidding, I hope you have a wonderfule time.

Well uhh, Heathrow isn't anything to be excited about, however it has been the easier airport to my experience. Gatwick and the other are much slower and far out. Besides the point was, excitement that she gets to goto the UK, and to see Darren! tongue.gif

Guess everyone's gone quiet....

Question:

If it was as easy to find work in the non-US country, would you live there?

It would be hard for me...I am very close to my parents and love my job here, but I would find it very interesting to live in the UK...

I haven't quite decided about that yet. My company offered me the opportunity to work in the UK, I said sure, offer it to me now, when we are going through US immigration. The director of my department said well it's an open-ended offer. Kind of nice idea, but I'm not so sure. The cost of living, the cost of everything blink.gif

I'll admit, I absolutely love the UK, everytime I go there, whether it's been work or pleasure, I fall in love with that country all over again!

I don't know, I'm not closed off to the idea, just don't know when. I too am close to my parents, it would be hard not seeing them as often as I do.

It's one of those possibilities ....

I hardly ever talk to anyone at work!

But that's the way I like it. I work best with no distractions - no music, gossip or background noise.

I think I would find it hard being in the house, though. I'd have to have a very clearly delineated 'office' space.

My office space is the living room but I do get alot of work done. After spending 6 months in St Lucia (essentially homeless in the USA) I came back to a 1 bedroom apartment I share with my daughter. Its ok though I like it and its a great school system but I had to take what I could get (or what my aunt got for me while I was gone). I am one of those people that like to move - I keep minimum things and I am lucky my daughter takes after me. When my Louis gets here we will find a 2 bedroom or eventually buy a house but he is used to sharing also and my 1 bedroom apartment will be a mansion to what he is used to!
Oh and even though I telework .. there is still juicy office gossip! LOL Can't live without it. I work for a small company and we are like a family - but like a family that is always in each others business ... Its a good thing we all like each other!!

I think in the end, if the company knows you are a "good" worker, they don't care where you work from, as long as you do your work! So then it just becomes personal preference about how you want to work!

I tried in the living room when I was in Houston, but the dogs were always nosing around through all my work papers! wacko.gif

Oh definitely -- in both houses I've worked from home, I have a separate office. Infact in this house, I made sure it was in the finished part of the basement. It's like its own little room ... once I leave, I don't hear the office line ring, and I don't check my emails, etc. It's work, and when I leave work, I'm done for the day. But it does have plenty of challenges -- like making sure not to sleep in, too easy to hit snooze, knowing you just have to walk to another room in the house laughing.gif

Its sad that the USA is the only industrialized country in the world with out a law on vacation days sad.gif

In Europe, after one year of labor you are entitled to twenty vacation days!!!

In my current company it takes 20 years for 20 days and I am also an Engineer.(Hopefully I wont be there that long)

Yeah it is sad and no consistency. My current company - you get 1 week your 1st year, after 1 year of service you get 2 weeks vacation, and 5 years you get 3 weeks, after 10 years, you get 4 weeks, and so on. Let alone, a lot of companies have taken away a number of paid holidays. Most banks, government institutions get them, but a lot companies don't give Easter holidays so much anymore.

I always joke with my fiance, because he's had 4 weeks vacation since he started ... I am like uh yeah, I've got 9 years with my company, and only getting 3 weeks!!! I'm just holding out for my 10th anniversary to get 4 weeks smile.gif

I work 7:00AM to 4:00PM regularly. I am on call 24/7. Holidays we typically work because the plant is shut down and the equipment is free for us to work on.... I have two installations per year, which include 4 weeks, of 80+ hours/week. I get called in in the middle of the night on average of 2 times per month, sometimes more, sometimes less... Definitely more after a new installation, etc...

I also work on average of 2 Saturday's per month (but only 1/2 days), although February was pretty calm. I get 10 vacation days / year, and we are only allowed to take 1 "week" in a row off per year.. The other vacation days can only be used at 1 at a time...

Although, I completely love my job too. I wouldn't consider a job change right now. It's really cool to see something I designed up and running...

All to familiar with that. My brother used to work for Philips -- he worked very similar to what you do. He left a few years ago already. But he was working there while I was in college, and I was studying Chemical Engineering and almost spent a summer working there, until I decided that Engineering wasn't what I wanted out my career. I still have a great interest in it, but I just couldn't see myself in it for the long haul. But I do get the whole seeing something you designed up and running - nothing better than that feeling, regardless of what work you do. Makes you feel like you've made a difference!!!

Ahh, the US and vacation, all the rules and such. If they only realized that giving us more vacation might actually improve employee morale!

And given the current affairs with the US economy, we should all just feel blessed to have jobs!! smile.gif

I agree too. I wish I could keep all my vacation days, and be able to have several months of maternity leave before and after my children's birth!

I consider myself very blessed. When I had my daughter 6 years ago I was living in VA, I wanted to come back to Maine to raise my daughter and my boss would not let me quit. I have been "teleworking" ever since. I think it is becoming very popular in the states. I dont have to buy work clothing, or pay for a commute to work.
If my daughter is sick I am home...If I am sick I dont really have to call in (unless I am so sick I need to stay in bed and even then I can bring the laptop to bed!)I also have about 6 weeks of "paid time off", and can use for whatever reason I want. I do tend to work more than I would if I were going to an office from 9-5 but I am also able to travel and not take time off. As long as I have an internet connection and I can work.

This is the whole reason I was able to stay in St Lucia for 6 months and meet my Sweetie! :-)

Indeed, I feel blessed as well. I moved to Rochester, NY for a company back in 1999 and after a year, I just didn't like Rochester (just wasn't for me). And I tried to quit, but they wouldn't let me. So I telecommuted and moved back to Houston (where I lived then) and funny thing, I quit about a year later, because another company hired me to telecommute! laughing.gif best/worst part - 4 years later, the company from Rochester bought the company I worked for in DC!!! So now I'm back with the company in NY, but working from home. But yes, it helps in this situation. When I go overseas next week I'll just telecommute from there and don't have to worry about the vacation time. Since I am definitely not as lucky and have 6 weeks!!!! And I'm trying to save mine for the wedding/honeymoon stuff smile.gif But yes, it is more popular in the states, and I too work more than I would if I went into the office, but I wouldn't trade it for working in the office!!!

Hope everyone is having a great Tuesday!!!

I really hope you and Amanda get approved soon, dbears! It must be even more frustrating when you're a Vermont filer and seeing all these approvals!

Thanks for the support!!! My patience is wearing so thin right now. Between not thinking about seeing him in less than 2 weeks (which I try not to think about, because it only makes the days drag on further) and being on pins and needles hoping for the NOA2 ... I'm just a little wacko.gif Don't you worry though, I plan on being around for those who will need the support -- including all of the CSC applicants!!!

I think back to after Christmas when I took him to the airport, the day before I took him, I cried, because I knew he was leaving the next day. Not that he understood what I was crying about, at least not then. Then we drove up to Washington, DC (was cheaper and less flight time to fly out DC, rather than Raleigh). And he hates flying ... laughing.gif and I was strong for him because of that, and I didn't get upset at all and I even managed to drive the 5 hours back home without getting upset. And then a few days later he said I still don't understand why you didn't get upset at the airport. We said goodbye and you just turned around and walked away. And I told him I did it for him, so that it wouldn't be harder on him, and that I had cried the day before that ... and then he said, oh, now I understand why you were crying that day ... Duh!!! Anyhow, my point of all of this, I've been strong through all of this, as we all know we have to be, but damnit, my strength is wearing out today. mad.gif I can't even repeat what I called the USCIS ... hee hee, and when he heard me say it, he said, make sure you don't call them, that might get you into some serious trouble whistling.gif Not that I would even think about calling them, because there is nothing to call them over!!!

And to think, here I sit complaining, and it's only been one month since I filed the paperwork, and there are other people here, waiting 6+ months. And then don't add in the beating up of myself for feeling a little weak! blush.gif This process just makes you feel confused from time to time. blink.gif

Happy Saturday Y'all!

It is snowing, raining, cold and wet here and I am still reeling with happiness! I went out will "the girls" last night to celebrate!
I wish I knew more people - I have called everyone I know but I still want to tell more people!

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend and Monday will bring more APPROVAL messages!

Good you went out and celebrated!!! smile.gif It's soooo cool that you got your approval ... I imagine you'd love to shout it from the top of a mountain laughing.gif

The weather here today was nice - almost in the 70s and sunny ... it gets cold here, but we don't get snow all that often, which is a good thing, most southerners don't know how to drive in it!!!

PS - Don't forget to update your timeline smile.gif

That sounds so nice - I come from a Scottish background but I dont see Louis in a kilt!! Skinny rasta in a kilt! LOL

We will all have to post pictures after the big events!!!!

LMAO ... yeah, well everyone's comment here seems to be, what do they wear under their kilts! In the end, we both just want a relaxed atmosphere and a happy time!

So on a positive note.. what's everyone thinking for a wedding? I got my dress last month and it takes me everything not to try it on everyday smile.gif

Don't have the dress yet ... nor his kilt. Yes, we are doing a traditional Scottish wedding (kilts, bagpipes, and all). Actually having the ceremony on a terrace overlooking a lake, and the reception on the same property that night (open bar party!! wooohoo!). I think we've managed to get all the details figured out for the reception, and we just have the vows and scottish traditions to figure out for the actual ceremony. I looked at dresses online, but I think I'll hit the actual shops in April/May.

I keep seeing the problems people have with getting police records and I feel like we have done something wrong. I thought we needed it sooner so I already sent Louis to get his. It cost $2 and took 1 week! I guess it is just the benefit of a tiny island!

:-)
Cat

Yeah, Stephen went to get his yesterday. They said he should have it next week. Knock another thing off the list! wacko.gif

thanks u guys smile.gif I hope you get yours very soon!!!

When he's here we will put together packet 3 and get more pics and stuff for interview and when he gets home in april he can get the police records and send the packet.

but for now i'll just celebrate heheh i'm like runnning around telling everyone some are like approved for what? then I have to explain the whole thing haha tongue.gif

Yep, it's great fun ... if they could just understand without the whole explanation!!!

I'm still so very excited for you. These January approvals have me a nervous wreck (in a good way of course!)
