CanadaIs Montreal getting stricter with the Affidavit of Support?
I've got an Affidavit of Support question:

My fiancee will have a co-sponsor, so as I understand it both her and the co-sponsor must fill out a I-134.

But does that mean that she also needs to provide all evidence of support, or is it just the co-sponsor that provides evidence?

This makes me wonder if they started 'over' booking... like this is likely going to take a bit longer than usual. lol

I'd LOVE to meet up with some people on the 20th... but I'll have to pass on the timmies.. I will seriously get sick. No joke. I'm not going to be in any condition to eat that day until this thing is over. LOL

We're also traveling up on the 19th, and staying overnight on the 20th too, coming back on the 21st. Figure that I've never been to Montreal before, and let's face it, will probably never go again, so might be nice to take the afternoon to enjoy the city smile.gif

Heck, I can skip Timmies now. My choice hotel has a coffeemaker in the room. dancin5hr.gif

That was my thought too... I'll never ever have a reason to be in Montreal, and after my bundle of nerves have calmed from the interview, I want to enjoy it. Yes, it's an extra $100 for another night, but I want to enjoy it. So 19th-21st sounded good to me.

Once I have the letter in hand, it looks like I'll be booking at Hotel Dauphin... Reviews look awesome, and the rates look good.

How trustworthy are these third-party sites, though? I've never used any of them.. and bidding sounds too complicated, but places like expedia/hotels.ca don't use bidding. Is it just that they buy bulk rates and resell them?

If you are talking about sites like priceline.com, I've def used that before, and my fiancee has too! Always has worked out. I would of course call the hotel just to be sure, I think they should give you some reference code. As for bidding on priceline, the hotel just wants to fill the rooms, they won't give the room away but something is better than nothing for them!

As for Montreal, it really is a nice place in my opinion! Lots of culture, cool fashion (sometimes over the top for me), lots of art to appreciate, shopping... you HAVE to ride the Metro, but maybe thats just me cause in Ottawa there is no underground transportation here! People tend to be friendly I have found, even if you don't know french, most people know english! But you will see most all of the signs are in french. I think its a romantic city really, and even more so after you get your visa!! smile.gif

It IS pretty! I like.

But the OCD side of me (which quite often does get the better of me) is really bothered by the fact that the stamp isn't on the page perfectly, one of the corners actually hangs over the edge ever so slightly. sad.gif

Mine is like this too, I'm like come on, how hard is it to stick it on straight?! Hah tongue.gif

Just got mine today! When I got to Montreal for the interview I had totally forgotten to get the option signature delivery... I went to leave for work today and it fell onto my feet (cause they left in between the screen door and the main door) literally almost tripped over it lol! I was so happy to get it and HAD to open it and look at it before going to work! Also was really glad that I was able to take it inside pretty much right away ~ not that anyone would have seen it between the doors, but still! It feels even more real now that I have the actual thing in my hands! Cool that it has my fiancee's name on it too! smile.gif

I had added my email address to the tracking number, and never had any updates (still don't) through email! Haven't checked if it was updated on the Canada Post site though!

Just wanted to add my approved here too! smile.gif I would have to say getting there earlier is better ~ I got there right at 8am (bah parking) and I think I eneded up leaving at about 1. The fingerprint lady said I was the second last one of the day, at least for K visa I guess!

Like others, everything went very smoothly, thanks in part to VJ, my documents were all in order and the interviewer lady (think I had room 7) was very friendly and made me feel very comfortable!

I just got all my fiancees paperwork this afternoon at work ~ she overnight-ed it to me! It was crazy to hear that she sent it last night and I had it in my hands today! Finally its all coming together.. and so last minute! I'm anxious to leave work and get home and sort it all out and put it together with my stuff! All you folks with your SO coming along are lucky! I have to wait till I can celebrate (as long as all goes well!!) but we'll still celebrate, just have to wait till I go down there! smile.gif

I called the department of state today & they said our case is logged into the system. she said we are eligible for an interview, but none has been scheduled(THAT would be a miracle!!).

I know it's a long wait, but I'm on the list.

Looks like we're on about the same schedule as you CDAgirlMI... And I also called DoS today and I was also told I was eligible for an interview, but none scheduled. When I asked about how long I should expect to wait for an interview to be scheduled, she said about a month... then she was like, well... at LEAST a month, and then I think she repeated the at least part lol.

I'd like to know this too... there is some stats I've seen here on the average amount of days it takes... why isn't there an Igor's list for people waiting to get an interview date hah!

Canadaclosing bank accounts?credit cards?

I called to ask about closing both bank and credit cards, the credit card people said I could not have an active account if I was moving to the US. They wanted to close it and have me mail/wire the payments I had left (paying off the debt as normal). I ended up keeping my bank account and credit open (just didn't confirm I was actually moving). I now transfer money to my bank account and pay off my credit cards, which are still open and useful to have for Canada purchases. Don't let your Canada credit go bad, a few times here in the US, they have checked my credit there to approve me on a car for example.

Might want to make sure you have a Canadian address to send statements to or turn off paper statements though.

CanadaGetting Loans in the US with Canadian Credit

Amex will usually (and has done for me) flip your Canadian AMEX over to US AMEX credit card, you have to have the Amex in Canada for 1 full year in good standing last I checked. They kept the Canadian card open and gave me an American card/account. On a similar note, when buying a car in the USA, they have always referenced my Canadian credit history as support.

On the sauce tip, how about Diana Sauces? I went to their website and there is a question in the FAQ about coming to the USA and they are not. I'm sure I've seen it here though. Anyone else?

Also if you're looking for cheese curds, look no further than Wisconsin or Minnesota, get them at most any grocery store.

CanadaThe Canuck EI Thread
I've got a question on tax, but the search doesn't allow me to search 3 letter words and I read the first few pages in this thread... My question is, if I have my EI money direct deposited into my Canadian bank account, would I still have to pay the 25% tax because I am living in the USA? I need the money to pay off things in Canada anyhow, so its a PITA transferring it all around and losing money on taxes and exchange rates etc!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsMay 2009 filers -- post here!!!
Ok, good... yea I filled that one out ~ and I'd have to say these packet 3 forms are a real PITA. I found myself wondering if I was doing or marking in the right things so many times... and there is so much redundancy too. And as you said, some you can't even save and come back to later, its a one shot thing, and I think it was the DS-160 online one that kept timing out (though I was well within the 20 minute limit) so I learned to save it to a file after each page I completed!

Well, one is a pain in the butt since it's electronic and has to be finished in one go, and you have to pay for it. I dont know if your consulate is part of it, but only certain consulates have to have people fill out these forms.

Just curious, which form do you have to pay for, I want to make sure I'm not missing anything! smile.gif

Wow! That was superfast!! And yeaaaa wow, your interview is so soon, in a way I kinda feel good about it taking a while for Montreal LOL (though don't want it to be TOO long!) so that I can feel more prepared and save up some more money! Consulate received our papers on Aug 27th, and I am patiently waiting to get packet 3 in the mail. I emailed the Montreal consulate and got an automated FAQ back, then a human reply 2 days later ~ and they didn't even really answer my question or bother to look up my case number to see if they sent out packet 3 to me yet.
