Hello everyone, just got back from my Oath ceremony. It was a good/emotional experience becoming the US Citizen. Got the Naturalization Letter and also applied to register for vote. There were 140 candidate from 40 countries....Next step is to apply for US passport and update social security records.

Congrats on the oath appt! That's my sons birthday, Aug 26!

Yes, you do need 2 passport size pictures for the passport. Either can get it done at Walgreens, CVS for $9.99 or at the passport office for $15. Not all passport offices have a camera so it's always safer to take your own.

thanks so much for the advice, i will get it done via Walgreens or may be use my old pics i have a couple :)

Congrats to everyone - that is a good question sumer - I would get some taken just to be sure smile.png

My test is tomorrow morning at 9am Central Time smile.png Nerves have set in, as usual lol Think of me over breakfast lol

Hello Good morning, Happy Friday :)

So i went for my Naturalization Interview yesterday and I passed the test, thank God.

I arrived at Chicago Downtown office at 1:10 pm (my interview was scheduled at 1:45pm) and after going through security, i was asked to go on 2nd floor. I went there, showed my interview letter to the lady sitting at the reception, behind a glass window. She noted my name and asked me to sit and wait at Door#1 (For Naturalization interview area). There were already 5/6 people sitting theer. I sat there, started to review the questions/answers and after 10 minutes, my name was called. All other people who were already there and waiting were still waiting. At the door, a USCIS officer greeted me and told me that I need to follow her to her room. She introduced me (told me her name), asked me to raise my right hand and say i will say the truth etc. Then she opened my file and all documents+evidence i sent earlier were there. Then she asked me to sign & print my name on N-400 form that i sent earlier, the last section, i think Section#13. Then she gave me a paper with 10 questions with three answers and asked me to sign and date at the end. I was unable to look at the questions as it was done very quickly.

After that, she kept that paper in front of her and started the questions as below.

  1. What is the supreme law of the land?
  2. Who is in charge of the executive branch?
  3. Who does a U.S. Senator represent?
  4. What are two ways that Americans can participate in their democracy?
  5. What is one reason colonists came to America?
  6. During the Cold War, what was the main concern of the United States?
  7. Why does the flag have 50 stars?*

After question#6, she told me I passed that test ( after reading test....then she said OK let me ask one more question, lol). She was writing my answers on that sheet she asked me to sign.

After that, she asked me to write- Washington is the father of our Country. Then she asked me to read one sentence- What is the old Capital of United states.

Then she asked me to sign on my pictures that i sent earlier with my I-751 with a black marker (not pen) and then she checked my Green card, my passports and birth certificate, my marriage certificate, my son's birth certificate and asked some general questions like when & where did i get married (date) , where are my in-laws,  where do i work, where does my husband works, is my husband with me for this interview (i said no he is at work), what is my son's name, how many times i visited out of USA since i got my green card and for how many days, she asked all questions from N-400, the Yes/No questions like have you ever been arrested, deported etc etc. She asked are we renting a place or owned, i said we bought our town home in Dec 2013, she asked are we filling our taxes every year and is there any debt on us from IRS, i said No.

BTW, she didn't even saw my yellow letter.secret7vf.gif

Advice: Please don't talk too much with the officer as then you may run into issues, like after she asked me 6 questions, she already told me that I am passed but during my reading test, when she asked me to read, What is the old Capital of United states, i just said i know the answer of this question too. Then she said OK, let me ask you one more question (question#7 above). SO BE CAREFUL

Once she handed off the Form N-652, Naturalization Interview Results, with a tick on Congratulations, she told me you will get a notice via email in next 3/4 weeks for Oath ceremony and it will be here in the same building. I just asked carefully, can i bring my husband and my borther with me, she said YES. I said can i take pictures, she said YES. and then i thanked her, picked up my stuff in my bag and she accompanied me to the exit door. At the door, she smiled and said i like your shirt, it is pretty :) I just said thanks and stepped out of that room and came  back to my work.

So all in all it took me 20 mins or so, as i was outside the building at 1:48 pm :)

Regards,

S. Umer

Then I am not sure - I had to submit birth certificate.

With the representatives - make sure you get the name of the US rep - not your state rep smile.png

thanks, yes i found Janice D. Schakowsky (cant pronounce her last name) as our US Representative, i live in zip code 60053. Thanks again.

1. You have a US Representative for where you are. This site will guide you http://www.fyi.legis...mnuAddress.aspx

2. If they ask for a Birth Certificate you will need to have one (should have a copy from sending in for PR)

3. Go to your local police department or a bank and ask to have the copy signed by a notorary public, they will need to see the original so they can verify it is a true copy of the original document. (I would be taking the original too - just in case)

4. I have no idea on this one, to my knowledge no you don't BUT I have mine to take just in case. The SS card gets changed after you become a citizen at the SS office (our responsibility to have that changed)

Thanks Kanga for your prompt response. it is very helpful :)

For#2, i never submitted my husband's birth certificate, all i sent earlier was his passport photocopy, that's why i was wondering.

Good morning everyone, happy Monday :)

In preparation of my upcoming interview on Aug 15th, i need your help on the following questions/concerns.

1- For the question regarding state US representatives, i have a list of 19 US Representative for IL including Democrat and Republican parties, if the question asked, do i just say any one name or what???

2- My US Citizenship is based on 3 years marriage to a US Citizen, for the documents checklist sent by USCIS (N-659), point#3, can i just take my husband's US passport as i don't have his birth certificate? Please confirm??

3- Certified copies of birth certificate of children born in the US? I have my son's birth certificate, how can i get it certified???

4- Do i need to take my original Social security card with me as well?

Thanks much.

Thanks so much for your help. Now i think i dont need to be scared as even we filed separately, our address is same on the tax docs plus we have a son and other evidence that shows its a legit marriage and we are living together. God Bless you :)

Hi Everyone,

I got a yellow letter yesterday from USCIS Subject: Pre-interview Case File Review

They are asking to bring the last 3 years tax returns doc or transcripts. My only concern is that when we went to file our taxes, the tax expert told us if you guys do it separately, you will get more money in tax returns rather filling as Joint. So my son's name is under my tax returns and my husband filed a separately. Will that be any issue??? Do i need to take my income tax returns as well as my husbands too for the last 3 years???

Besides that we have Joint->bank accounts/Car insurance/Mortgage bill/utility bills/ health insurance.

Please tell me your suggestions, how to deal with this:(

They will ask you a maximum of 10 questions and you are to provide the correct answer - no multiple choice questions.

You must answer 6 out of the 10 correctly in order to pass.

Thanks Much :) Appreciate your quick response.

From what I read, you certainly can mention that to them if they put you on the 20th; however, if that ceremony on 08/19 is full, they will have to put you to next one. May I ask how do you know when there's an oath at a local city?

Hi, thanks. The next oath ceremony is on 16th August, the very next day of my interview and then it will be on 20th Sept.

I found out these details from the link below, hope it helps.
