Hey Gals ~ I am in Morocco right now and hope I am not gaining back all the weight I lost ohmy.gif The family is very respectful when I decline the hobbs and late night eating, they were very happy to see my weight loss since my last visit! Of course I am indulging in some of my Moroccan favorites, and my husband is very supportive good.gif

WOW ~ this thread was buried ! I had been avoiding the scale for weeks, i just weighed in and lost another 5 lbs. good.gif I have been super busy and not making it to the gym as much, but keeping a very close eye on my food intake to compensate. I'm starting to get the feel for this balancing act that is weight loss !

Congrats, Amal ! That's a great loss good.gif Have fun at your reunion, Jen and don't stress too much as most of your classmates waistlines will probably have expanded much more than yours over the years !

I've hit a plateau and it's frustrating ~ I'm taking my own advice and drinking the x-tra water, not weighing in too often, I don't feel like I am taking in more calories than before. The first 20lbs although not quick, was steady. Maybe I am just in a rut, any ideas? Maybe I need a few Hot Yoga classes to drop a quick 10lbs unsure.gif

Nothing wrong with indulging once in a while! If I tried to cut out everything I love to eat, I'd have been done with this thread months ago.

My muscles are sore today.

Very true! I enjoy these occasional indulgences more, really savor the flavors, and am satisfied with smaller amounts now good.gif

I am still combining cardio and strength training mostly due to time restraints. I do that combo 3x weekly and on off days do my Pilate's tapes or walk outside. I also take Belly Dance classes 2x weekly, and those are so fun, it hardly feels like exercise (it's worked magic on my core!) It's important to get some variety !

Yesterday a neighborhood pizza place, which I love was delivering free pizzas to all the nearby offices at lunchtime. I did indulge in a few slices, their BBQ chicken pizza is awesome whistling.gif

Jenn ~ just curious, did the pt give an explanation why we should be doing weights before cardio? I have been doing it after like you. I thought doing cardio first warms the muscles then keeps the heart rate elevated during the strength training. Anyway, just feels as if I am burning more calories this way unsure.gif

Have you heard of Hot Yoga (Bikram) it's done in a heated room and is supposed to be fantastic for loosening joints and muscles, has detoxing effects, clears brain fog. I just started researching it, anyone tried it? unsure.gif

kicking.gif WEEKEND CHALLENGE kicking.gif

This is more of a mental challenge! Once I gained awareness in this area, it made all the difference in my weight loss efforts ! As a recovering binge eater (mostly sweets) this is a daily struggle for me. Be aware of what you are putting into your mouth instead of engaging in an unconscious feeding frenzy. This may sound simple, but learn to listen to your body. Are you truly hungry, or just bored? Do you really want dessert, or are you eating from emotion? What is desserts spelled back wards? STRESSED ! wacko.gif

This weekend ~ slow down, savor your food ~ enjoy small bites of your favorites and STOP! I've had some major life changes recently and the first area to be affected is my eating. I haven't weighed myself lately. I may be pleasantly surprised as I have been exercising more as a stress reliever, and girls if there is a belly dance class in your city, what great exercise, and you can show off your new moves to your man in private whistling.gif

I also lost 1lb. this week, but I'll take it! Bridget ~ depending on your current weight 1,000 calories may not be enough for you, and may actually slow your weight loss. I aim for 1,500 calories a day and include more complex carbs when I exercise. If the body thinks you're fasting, it will hold on to weight and start burning muscle, not fat as fuel!

Hope everyone has a great week good.gif

OMG !!!!!!!!! I just tried Quaker mini delights (chocolate mint ) 90 calorie paks and I thought I was eating thin mints! What a great substitute without all the fat, calories and guilt good.gif

I used to be a big snacker, so replacing some of my favorites helps alot ! BTW, I also use the SB Diet dressings. They are low-cal, tasty and made with the good Omega 3 oils!

I have been to the gym 3x this week and sticking with the salads for lunch rose.gif

Tomorrow's weigh in for me!

Me too! I always weigh in on Mondays, so I can get a fresh start to the week and minimize any damage I did over the weekend! So far I haven't gained, but still not losing again. I think I have hit some type of plateau, had a really rough week and relented to some good ol "stress eating" over the weekend! Guess I never fully recovered from that Thin Mints attack earlier in the week, it's so hard sometimes to just eat a little of something and stop. unsure.gif

My plan for this week is to hit the gym harder (without hurting it) and shake things up a bit by replacing my usual Lean Cuisines at lunch w/ salads and lean protein on the side. Sometimes our bodies get used to the same routine and foods. Hope everyone has a great week! rose.gif

Jenn ~ Try not to be too discouraged, the scale can be real deceiving and may not be reflecting a gain at all. Our weight can vary from day to day based on so many factors. Someone mentioned salt. Also, since you have been weight lifting, you may be experiencing a gain in muscle mass because muscle weighs more than fat, but yet it's compact! Weight lifting is so good for women because the more muscle we carry, the more calories we burn even at rest !

I would guess your clothes are looser, and this can sometimes provide a more accurate measure of our progress than the scale. good.gif

Drink alot of water for a few days, and weigh yourself again. You may not need to turn that turtle around!

helpsmilie.gif I was attacked by those sinfully good cookies last night, and this morning I woke up with a sugar hangover!
Darn those cute, little, smiling girl scouts! (i used to be one years ago) How can I not support them? I suppose just give them a donation and not take the cookies! wacko.gif

Anyway, just acknowledging, being accountable and moving on! Today is a new day rose.gif

rose.gif My Personal Challenge rose.gif

When I first started this weight loss journey, it felt like a daunting, never-ending, waiting game (kinda like the visa journey!) The only way I could make sense of it was to break it down into smaller chunks. I set a goal to tackle the first 20lbs. by my birthday and I met that goal! I have maintained that loss for a while now, and I am ready to challenge myself again.

kicking.gif I will lose another 20lbs. by May 10th! kicking.gif

Being sick today has slowed me down and caused me to re-evaluate ! I have to make the gym a priority again, keep my sweet tooth reigned in and remain focused on the results, it felt so great losing that first 20! with every 5lbs. lost I rewarded myself with a pedicure or new jeans (something that wasn't food)

I am posting this publicly so I will be accountable! C'mon, who wants to join me? What is your goal?

Can I join this group? I had started my program right before Thanksgiving and remained on track thru the holidays! Just my two cents...

Nothing wrong with a Christian saying "God willing" (Insha'allah). Many of our Christian Jordanian and Egyptian friends say it here and overseas.

As a Christian, I find myself saying this alot. Seeing DiCaprio say it on the big screen was a treat! But seriously, it serves as a good reminder for all of us, no matter what our plans may be, God often does not agree. We rarely hear God willing said in the same manner. What I like about the Muslim faith it that God is so interwoven into the believer's daily lives in so many ways. (Not just an hour on Sundays) I like that their holidays are far from commercialized and center around God. I have great respect and awe for those of you are living different faiths, married and making it work. We said religion would not be a problem for us, we both loved God and wanted to serve for his higher purpose. I will never know now, but can't help thinking at times the challenges, differences, and not surrendering our own truths. How would we pray together? Are we even praying to the same God? Just thoughts... theory quickly becomes reality! For those of you doing it good.gif
