K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary '09 Vermont K-1 Filers
OK. So I had to take some action today too. I fired my attorney back in April. I contacted uscis about this and he did, too. But now I wonder if they did not remove him from my case and maybe HE has my NOA2. So, I called uscis to find out if they removed him. They cant tell me anything. I have to make an appointment and go to my local office just to see if his address or mine is on my file! This is crazy! If my NOA2 is laying on his desk somewhere......
But any way the woman told me she had no way of knowing if my case had been approved yet or not. Has anyone else gotten this answer? Do they usually know if your NOA2 has been mailed? All she could tell me was that it was received on Jan 22 and was processing.
Thanks for any help you can give me. I'm feeling desperate here!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary '09 Vermont K-1 Filers
Can't wait for this long weekend to end! Two days with no mail just makes me even more crazy! And I thought filing in January would mean that May would be the month to celebrate... instead I am just feeling more stressed every day. Thanks for giving me a place to share my feelings with others who understand!
Turning 40 on the 31st seems to sound harder the closer it gets...... sad.gif

Anyone else notice that there are 2 little groups of us January filers who seem to be "skipped over"? I am on Jan 22 and there is a little group of us there as well as a little group around the 14th. What's up with this??? It's making me crazy!!!

Just wanted to say that I had an update on 05/01/09, but nothing else changed. I didn't get an email or any kind of status change. sad.gif Don't really know what that means except that I fired my attorney and he removed himself from my case. (I received a copy of the letter he sent uscis the same day.) I don't know if they would post an update for that or not.

Middle East and North AfricaNew members going thru Jordan
QUOTE (amal @ Apr 18 2009, 01:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I've seen a few newer members (new to me at least) with SO's from Jordan. There are so few of us on here that I thought it would be nice to get to know you all.

I'm Amal. My hubster is from Irbid, Jordan. We married in December 2004 and he arrived in the USA in December 2005. We moved from Missouri (my home state all my life) to Houston, TX in 2007 because hubster thought "the life would be so much better" here and there was no convincing him othewise. I'm a CPhT (Certified Pharmacy Technician) and have a 10 year old son.

I feel like the real newbie here!
I am still only engaged and waiting for my fiance's visa to be approved. Our papers were received in Vermont on 1-22-09.
My fiance lives in Amman now and works for Orange (the telecommunications co.). I am in southern West Virginia and I think this is where we will stay for a while when he gets here because all of my family is here (I have 2 children 19 and 16).
I visited him in November and we haven't seen each other since then. We are praying that this processing goes smoothly and quickly as I just changed jobs and have no vacation time to go back over there!
I hired an attorney when we first started this process, but after I found this site, I fired him! But I can use any advice you all can give me!
Thanks for all the support!

Middle East and North AfricaShould I live in Jordan while we wait?

In no way do I mean to put a negative light on the country, it's only MY personal opinion.

I was at the Mecca Mall in Amman, large city and beautiful mall. I wandered 15 ft away from a checkout and was shoo'd back to my group of friends by a security guard. I was like..wth is this about..well women shouldn't be alone.

I miss alot of things about Jordan~but none of them as important as Jessica & Joshua and Alexis. My kids are my joy and Lexy is my smile. I learned the hard way I cannot be far from them for very long.

This visa process ends, it seems agonizing long while you are apart, but its all for a reason.

Jackie
(now I am day-dreaming of kanafa in Irbid on University Street ;) )

I understand exactly what you are saying. If my kids were young, there is no way I could leave. But I don't have a grea trelationship with any of my family right now (except my mom and grandmothers), so it is not that hard to leave them for a while.
But with a grandchild on the way.... it makes it a bit harder.

I never went anywhere without Mohsin while I was in Amman. I did a few walks alone at midnite to meet him after he left work, but that was it.
But I know living there for an extended time would be different than just the 45 days. It would be harder I am sure.
I have a lot of thinking to do!
ally and mohFemaleJordan2010-01-19 10:56:00
Middle East and North AfricaShould I live in Jordan while we wait?

One of the reasons we didn't live together in Egypt while waiting for the visa was what we were going to do after we arrived here. I had a cosponsor, because I was fresh out of college and had only been working full time since August of 04, but that was just a friend who filled out some paperwork to help us get over that last little hurdle, so that we didn't have to wait another year months to file while I worked more to meet the financial requirements.

If you have a place to live and money to support you both when you move back to the states, then by all means go live over there. But for us, I stayed in the US, worked, got us an apartment and saved some money, so that when he arrived, he didn't need to worry about finances or housing. Will you have enough money to support your both if you can't find a job right away, and if he's unemployed for a long period of time (which is a very real possiblity for an immigrant in this economy)?

We went 18 months without seeing each other. Did it suck? Yes. But it's survivable. Think about your future, your long term goals, and what you can do now to make it easier when your husband arrives. If there's nothing you can do here in the states, then sure, live overseas. But if there are things you can do here that will help to make his move here and your future together easier, I'd stay here.

Just my 2 piastres.

Thank you.
Some of this is making me think again! And that is why I decided to post.... a reality check!
Thanks again!

Middle East and North AfricaShould I live in Jordan while we wait?

I completely understand everyones perspective on this but I am the flip-slide to that coin. You couldn't PAY me to live there. I love love love the country, been there 4 times, but everytime I land in Chicago, I could KISS the ground! In fact when walking down the ramp to the terminal I am singing Lee Greenwood's 'God Bless the USA'.

The view is interesting, the people are the most generous, the most caring I have ever met. The food is awesome and I loved the green lights of the mosques at night. But...and there is always a big 'but'...there were sevral things that if I had to accept for longer than 2 weeks I might have went crazy.

Showers~I like them hot and long. Depending on the tank on the roof, and the low water pressure, I missed showers as I know them.

Shopping~I didn't know the prices, could not have shopped on my own, ever, and being stared at in the smaller villages was unnerving.

Language~ Yes while there you will learn to pick up bits and pieces of conversation, but as for having any kind of meaningful conversation, that will be limited.

Slow motion~EVERYTHING in Jordan moves at a snails pace and this is worse in the summer. Like Kelly said, be prepared for alot of taxi rides around Amman.

For me, it is a great place to visit but I would not live there. I am a spoiled American that likes to work, socialize and speak my mind.

Jackie

Jackie I love this insight!
I DON'T speak the language and that was the hardest part of my 45-day stay last year.
And I really missed my work and friends and family (well, some of my family...LOL). Found out while I was there that my daughter is pregnant... due in June, so it would be hard to miss that!
It just feels like this will never end!
Maybe my visit next month will be enough to get us thru.
But I am really considering the move.

Middle East and North AfricaShould I live in Jordan while we wait?

If you can prove domicile in the states(which looks like you can since you have a home here), depending on your income without working of course... you will just need a cosponsor for the AOS

If you can do it, by all means GO FOR IT!! Good luck Ally

This gets more tempting!
The house I live in belongs to my mom. She would let me keep it. And I would still have a small income from disabilty (not enough to meet the requirements). And my financial statement for 2009 is about $22,000. I have already done the I864 for NVC.... so I have the numbers already.

But if having a co-sponsor would allow us to be together now, I would find one!

Middle East and North AfricaShould I live in Jordan while we wait?

I packed up and left and lived in Jordan for 10 months. My dad co sponsored so I didnt have to worry about financial things. Just be aware that if u do decide to live in Jordan it is a pain in the a$$ if u plan to stay for extended periods. I think after 14 days I had to get a HIV test, then apply for a 90 day extension on my visa, then after the 3 months I was required to apply for residency which took about 2 weeks, hundreds of dinars and driving all over amman. not to mention another damn HIV test . Aside from a few bumps in the road, living in Jordan was the best decision ever and if you are able to I say go for it!

So if I have a co-sponsor, they would not care if I did not have a job?
And I went thru that HIV test my last vist (I was there 45 days). It was humiliating!

I need some good advice. It has been 91 days since our CR1 NOA1 and waiting gets harder every day.
I am considering a move to Jordan while we wait this out, but I am not sure of the requirements for the CR1.
I will still have a home in the USA, but no job.
What do they require to grant the visa?
We want to be together now, but don't want to do anything that will hurt the visa issuance. I have another visit planned for next month, but I know it's going to be so hard to leave.
Please help... I am starting to feel desperate here!

Middle East and North AfricaEmbassy of Amman- Packet 3
When we atempted the K1, my fiance (now husband) never got packet 3. The embassy let us print everything online.
We got our NOA2 on June 1, and his interview was Sept 1.
You may want to see if you can get some kind of extension if you only have a month before your NOA2 expires!

Middle East and North AfricaMy Fiance Denied Visa Today in Casa
I totally understand what you are going thru. We first applied for the K1. My husband went to the interview alone in Jordan. I KNOW we were denied for our age difference (14 years) because the woman kept telling him I was too old for him! She laughed at our pics and made rude statements about my home state. It was humilliating!

That was Sept 1.... and on Oct 1, I was on a plane to Jorddan. We married Oct 6 and filed for the CR1. Still waiting the NOA2. I lived with him for 45 days and I am going back this month for 2 1/2 weeks. Praying the time spent together helps the case too! We took about 1200 pics this trip... and part of me wants to take every one of them into the next interview. We didn't take them for that reason, but because we both LOVE photography and there were so many beautiful things to see. :)

I know I will be at the next interview. Think we may have succeeeded the first time if I had been there. Live and learn!

So good luck. You are in my prayers! Just my opinion... but I say go marry him!

Really need some advice from the MENAs here!

I just spoke with an NVC operator about our CR1.
Seems we need a Sharia marriage certificate along with the one I sent from the civil dept and the copy of our marriage contract.
We married at our apartment with only the judge and a couple of friends there to witness.
She said this missing certificate has to do with the religious ceremony... and I am TOTALLY lost!

Van anyone advise?

We are going through the K-1 process. They received our package from NVC on 3/25 and the interview on may 6. So its about month and half to 2 months wait.

Thanks!

We are still waiting for NVC to finish with us. If they don't finish by Friday, we won't get an interview date assigned this month.
It's so hard waiting for this... I need to put in for vacation time so I can be at my husband's interview. The longer it takes, the harder it will be to get the time I need because everyone else will have thier vacations planned!

I did call the Consulate but was told I needed to send an email which I did before I made the call but I have not received a reply yet......

We went thru the same thing in Jordan in Sept. I went back to Jordan in Oct and we got married and are doing a CR1 now. They will take FOREVER to do anything with this back in the US.
His interview was Sept 1 and on Nov 24, I finally got info that the file was back here... and this was after I withdrew the K1 and we married!

My advice... get married and start over. It probably won't take as long as waiting to see what they do with the K1.

Hey ally! I used orbitz once and cheap o air once! We told delta what price we saw it on the website for and they gave it to us for that price.

I may try this... quoting the online price. I liked continental's service better than delta (and it wasn't that straight long flite) but I think delta is cheaper this time. More searching to do!

I would use those sites, but since I primarily use AA to book my flights to Nicaragua I always look @ the special discounts or perhaps special deals they might have on certain days. Check with your primary airlines website directly THEN cheaptickets/expedia, etc.. they give you a side by side comparison of all airlines. :)

Cheaptickets.com I believe is a rather good site to check... see if that works after you check your airlines website.

Thanks! Trying to save all we can on my ticket so that if we don't AP, he can fly home with me!

Hey everyone!
It's finally time to buy a ticket to fly for my hubby's interview.
When I have visited in the past, I have booked directly with the airline. But as I look now, some of the 3rd party sites like expedia, cheapo air, etc seem cheaper.
I would like to know if anyone else has used any of these sites and if the experience was good or bad.
Thanks!

Middle East and North AfricaThe "sent back to USCIS for review" thread
Just wanted to tell a little of our story.
We have a CR1 interview on Tuesday the 24th. I am here in Jordan with my husband for this one.
He went for a K1 interview Sept 1, 2009 and our case was returned to USCIS. After talking with him and asking alot of questions here, we made the decision to marry and refile the CR1. I withdrew our K1 in mid-September. I was in Jordan on Oct 2 and we married the 6th.
The CO did not tell him a specific reason for our return of the papers, but seemed very displeased with our age difference (I am 14 years older than Moh). She told him there were better ways to get to the US than marrying me. It was a real mess!
Any way, at the end of November, I got an email that the K1 had been returned to USCIS. My withdawal letter was not processed! When I called they went ahead and took the info over the phone and took care of it. I was told it became null and void when we married and that it had expired already, but he went ahead and cancelled it officially for us. I got official notice of its cancellation in January.
I am not sure why, but at the time we filed, other CR1s were approved in about 3 months. Ours took 5! There were no RFEs or anything, just a long time waiting. Then we had only one RFE from NVC and it was because I didn't send a paper... easy to fix and we were approved. We had to wait a while for an interview date because the embassy is busy, but I don't think the old K1 caused any problems (unless that is why we were at USCIS so long).

Now we are praying things go well Tuesday and he flies home with me Sept 7. We expect AP, but really hope we don't get it. And I really pray the old K1 doesn't come back to haunt us! I think it only bothers me because we never knew the real reason she returned it. Age is NOT a valid reason, but I really believe that was her main reason.
I will let you know what happens!

Hoping it will not be so hot when I return in Feb or March and we can do more. Some things we just can't control. But we do plan a quick trip to Aqaba before I return next month. Time is passing so fast here!

oh, the firey hoops you have to jump through to get married there, sheesh! lol At least you guys are in Amman already.
I went in Jan and it was nice, still sunny but not hot. I would imagine Feb would be about the same.
Is it the heat or the actual sun that effects you?

The heat and the sun are both bad for me. Actually doctor's orders are to avoid the sun. But in the last 13 1/2 years of living with this I have learned my limits. The biggest thing I hated was when he said "no tanning beds again... ever!" But I have done what I had to in order to stay healthy... a lot of meds, blood work almost every month, trips to the doc... and I know it would be hard to live here and get the health care I sometimes need.
I finally stood up to them all last year and went back to work outside of my home. It was the first time in 13 years I had worked besides the photo business I had at home with my ex. But it made me feel sooo much better about myself! And now I even have 2 jobs! LOL!
