K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
#######. Mary will be here tomorrow and packet 3 has not shown up there yet. Shes going to be here for 3 weeks so if it shows up while she is here - which is highly likely - we are going to have someone courier it to us here - complete it - ship it back - and have them courier it to Montreal. Timing seems to always suck! If we don't do that it will add at 0-3 weeks to the timeline. We are rushing to try and get her and her son down here before school starts in Sept but thats unlikely based on the timelines.

Although I noticed that one couple accidentally sent the entire I-129F packet to Montreal with their Packet 3 they got an interview in 19 days! I wonder if it would hurt/help to do the same thing. If we do it and it works at least it will prove the experiment. What do you guys think?

Time to vent... I need to buy a big suitcase. On the airline companies website (I checked US Airways and Air France), they say that "each bag greater than 62 in/157 cm will be subject to a fee (length + width + height)"
My mom found a suitcase at a very good price, but its dimensions are 75 + 50 + 37.5 = 162.5 cm... mad.gif

I thought I needed a big suitcase so I bought one in Chinatown San Francisco - decent quality only $40. However, the weight limit is 50lbs per bag - its too easy to go over 50lbs so I really recommend getting a travel scale as well. I bet that they will be really strict on weight limits - any excuse to charge you more. Just a helpful tip.

That would be awesome!! I'm hoping Levi gets packet 3 before he comes as I said before so they better get in gear!!!! Would be SOOOOO much easier to get it done together! Of course he'll still have the medical and police stuff to get done....... Does he have to mail any of that ahead of time? Can't remember...

Ditto here. Mary is coming to see us next Wed! So X fingers that she gets P3 before she leaves. I've going nuts trying to get a letter from my employer quick in case is gets here before she comes down.

Do you know if the NVC sent it on to Montreal yet?

Just got the letter from NVC today - pretty sparse information wise - dated 6/16

"This letter is to let you know that within a week the petition will be forwarded to the appropriate visa-issuing where your visa interview will take place"

Then the WAC# and the MTL# and the address of the Montreal consulate.

I tracked a package leaving NVC to MTL on the 16th which arrived on the 18th. How can I know if it was that one or not? I guess I will have to keep checking DHL to see if there are any more packages. Once the cosulate has the package, is there any way to track it on its way here - do they use a courier or good old CanadaPost snail mail??

Actually from what I've read, at least in the UK, the average price of a wedding dress is really quite modest compared to the other expenses - just £950 (only $1,900!).

$1,900!!! GOLLY! I can't spend that much for a dress that I will only use once... not even for a dress I will use 100times over and over again... That will be our total wedding budget already!

ummm, I will try to find a wedding dress for less than $100. Ricky don't believe I could find a good one but I know I will and it will be a good fit and a red carpet worthy design. innocent.gif

Wow. We were just going to do this. Only $700. Of course thats without the pink Cadillac.

Even though I agree with the bolded sentence, I don't think you should let them decide everything for you. This is your wedding, not Alex's parents' wedding. Of course, don't tell them: "No, it's not what we want, we want the informal backyard wedding and you can't change that". But you should tell them that you don't feel comfortable with this big formal wedding. If you talk together, you can try to compromise. ok for inviting that many people but not ok to have the big dancing thing.
You just can't let them plan everything. You are going to feel like a doll that can't say anything, placed in the middle of a ceremony orchestrated by somebody else.
Talk with them.

Agreed. We are shooting for a real Vegas wedding, Elvis and all. We are thinking maybe the Blue Hawaii package, as we are thinking about honeymooning in Hawaii. Big question is, do we go for the pink Cadillac? wink.gif

And you're welcome. smile.gif I'm sure everything will be fine!

Ya - I hear ya - she is packing as light as she can, her teenage son is coming down as well, so she can't pack too lightly. One time she was held back and searched thoroughly when she told them she was coming to visit her boyfriend and acted too excited that she was coming to see me! They even said "you got a wedding dress in there?" Can you believe that? Always a good idea to remain totally emotionally calm, but not too calm. It is nerve wracking. I just booked my vacation time off work while shes here so I hope everything goes smoothly.

So who is now checking for touches 3x a day? I am. 9am, noon and 6pm Pacific.... whistling.gif I'm also worried about the file being lost ohmy.gif

On another topic - does anyone know what the chances are that there will be issues at the border for my fiance? Shes got 4 copies of everything with her, including the original NOA1. I know that there is an info page on this somewhere, which we are following, but I was just wondering percentage wise (there goes my math side again), what the chances are that there will be an issue ?

A copy of his mortgage agreement
Recent paycheck stubs
credit card bills (proves financial ties to Canada)
his most recent utility bills
A copy of the entire petition
A letter from his boss stating that he was employed and was expected back

On a side note...it seems really dumb to me that pending visa petitions are considered suspicious activity...shouldn't it just prove that we're doing our best to do it lawfully and just want a visit while we're waiting? Seriously...#######?

Thanks - exactly what I needed - ya agreed on that side note - but you know what these guys are like. Make no waves and they let you pass. K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
Blake: Of course. What I'm saying is that all they need is 3 full time K1 adjudicators in each center in order to effectively process the number of applications that come through. They obviously place a higher priority on some of the ones you mentioned, but by the same token, considering that there is a US citizen petitioner involved in our specific visa type, then I would hope that we don't get last priority behind non-citizens, assuming that they are not fleeing for their lives or anything like that.

Question is: why don't they have 3 people working on K1 visas for 8 hours each workday? There can't be that many super-expedites as above. What I'm saying is that politically, we don't rate as high as I think we should.

Additionally, as you said, employment visas are processed faster - meaning its fine to expedite a potential foreign employee, but not a potential foreign spouse? I often joke that the US government is OK with US businesses hiring Canadians, but not so OK with its citizens marrying one.

Also, just my opinion... unsure.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
Ya I can see it. However something still doesn't add up - if we assume that your numbers are correct, and the VJ numbers represent 5%, and a typical 50 approval weeks nets over 1000 "full" approvals, then they should be able to process 50000 a year, and easily never getting behind, as the K1 numbers remain fairly static at around 35k a year. If they are processing a 1000 a week, thats 200 a day, 100 per center. My original estimate was about 32 per person per day. So it works out, each center has maybe 3 at most people working full time on K1s. sure it may not be the same 3 people all the time, but it means that at least 3 people need to work on the K1s every day. So these delays tell me that they can't even spare 3 people to concentrate on the K1s. If they did, they would be processed on time. As Cecile and Bryan said, they probably took these 3 people off doing K1s in order to handle the other visas. Pretty sad that they cant leave at least 3 people on our stuff at all times. I mean, 35k K1s are a drop in the bucket compared to the hundreds of thousands of N-400s they must have got. Just drives home the point that its all political. 35k petitioners are not enough to sway an election one way or another. We aren't enough of a voting block to matter. So even at a measly workload of 3 adjudicators per center, we get shafted sad.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
I had a good feeling - now I have a bad feeling. All this invisibility to the process is driving me crazy. With all the millions of dollars they are supposedly spending on this you'd think that there would be a better way of keeping informed.

To pass the time, I did some math (I know, I'm a geek): According to the stats, there are about 35000 K1s processed a year. Over a 200 work day year that means processing 175 a day. Over two centers (CSC and VSC) that means each center needs to process about 88 petitions a day. Therefore, in an eight hour day, they only need to process 10 or so an hour. If it takes 15 minutes to process each petition, then one adjudicator can process 32 a day. Therefore, each center should be able to process in a timely matter with only 2.75 adjudicators. I find it hard to believe that there are only 3 people in each office processing all the incoming K1s. And even if there were 3 there would no backlog.

This tells me that there are even less than 3 people in each center working on these. Even if they added one more person, they'd be able to rip through 30 additional a day.

If they added 10 people for a month, they'd be through 6400 petitions in a month. The last press release said they hired over 1300 people. How can none of these people be assigned to K1 duty???? The math, just like in Hillary's case, doesn't work out. They should not be going this slowly.

I desperatley need to do some laundry but forgot to get quarters! So may have to go somewhere later to round some of them up too!

Anything good on? I'm pretty useless today myself, I'll probably toddle off to the garden and see if I can do any damage there.

I'm not much of a drinker as well, but without our SO to keep us in line, how else are we supposed to spend our time, hehe

Also in a crappy mood. Starting to see people who filed after us get their NOA2s is not helping. I can't fathom how the hell they can say they do things in order when its obvious they don't really. I get this feeling that every morning they just dole out a dusty box to each adjudicators desk, whether they are in or not, on vacation or not. So some end up being processed before others. You know, I bet it not all that hard to just have them set up in real order. They owe us that much dont you think, to do what they say they do, especially for us paying US citizen customers.

I think the feeling of helplessness, coupled with not knowing anything at all, doesn't help either.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresValidity Period
Hi all:

We've been through the torturous journey and are hoping that its close an an end. Our NOA2 was issued on 06/06/2008 and reports that it is valid from 06/06/2008 to 10/5/2008. However the consulate is not being very responsive about an interview date - emails go unanswered. We are worried that if the consulate cannot schedule the interview before the validity date expires, what will happen? We don't have to go through this process all over again, do we? Has anyone else out there had their interview past their "end validity" date?

Thanks.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresImportant questions before we send away our petition!
Ah, sorry I forgot to mention it. She is from Canada.

One last question:

On the updated G-325a, where should our zip/postal code be listed under, address or country? I'm thinking under ``address``, but going along with how a letter is mailed, it's always right before the country, so would it be in the ``country`` spot, perhaps?
SpikyNot TellingCanada2009-07-30 01:38:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresImportant questions before we send away our petition!
Ok, sounds like we are on our way.... My last question is, we have put together all of our proof of being together and have:

event tickets for each of us
4 plane tickets
6 transport ticket
10 photos
receipts for a store

Think that would be enough (that is, anyone else have this amount or less and been accepted?) or would we be denied and need even MORE than that? Or... is it just too much?

Oh, also she is Canadian, if that makes a difference with the amount needed (since I know every country has different requirements).
SpikyNot TellingCanada2009-07-29 00:33:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresImportant questions before we send away our petition!
Hello, my fiancee and I are applying for our K1 visa, and I have a few question before we send it off. We
just want to make absolutely sure we did everything right!

First off, she'll be making one last trip to visit me in the states next week. However, we are trying
to decide if we should send out our papers before or after she comes. She can bring proof to the officer that she
intends to return with a letter form her employer and other bills, but I don't want her to be hassled even with such
proof if the officer has the info of a pending visa. The main reason we are thinking of sending it before, is because
it was signed last week and her passport photo was done 3 weeks ago (with no date on it, but do they even need a
date for it?) She has no intentions of staying in the states, we just want to visit one last time before the long wait
begins (as I am unable to visit her often).

So basically I'll set up my questions as so:

1) Does the passport photo NEED a date written on it? (since they always state having it sent within a month,
but I've only read that it needs to be put in a baggie with a name on it, not a date)

2) Is there an issue with sending away a paper if it was signed up to almsot 2 weeks ago when it gets
received?

3) Would it be an issue to send the papers away JUST before she leaves, so it gets there before she enters
the country and then I don't have to say that the papers were prepared when she was in the states? (since
she was not at the time)

4) How should the package be mailed out? Staples? Loose?

5) For those who have had their peitions accepted, how much proof (for photos and receipts etc) did you use?

6) Also, on the letter of intent, does a date need to be hand-written along with the signature or is a
typed-out date just fine?

Thank you!

*WHEW* Thank you for clearing that up... As much as I want to be with my fiance, I was worried it would be WAY too much of a rush! Of course, the times can vary but I was checking the charts posted and even in the shortest amount of supposed time, it will still be ok.

Not to mention, I thought I remember reading that you ONLY get 3 months to move, not 6. I'm glad that I still have alot of time left! Thank you...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApproved with no interview??
Ok first offf, as the topic states, today my fiance and I got a notice of approval, after waiting less than 3 months. Thing is, looking at the USCIS chart, we are already in the "post-decision" state, which is WAY after the interview. Does this mean we don't have to go through the interview process? Perhaps sent enough evidence/were easy to look into?

Another BIG question here: It is the end of October, and we were not expecting it to go through so fast, seeing as how most people waited around 5 months. We were planning for more a moving trip around spring, perhaps March or April. Does this mean I am forced to move to America even early than expected? How many months is it before I would for SURE have to move and marry? Our next trip planned was going to be me coming to America in January for a visit, but would this not be possible?? With the busy Christmas season just starting up too, I'm not sure if I would even be able to quit my job so soon too, not until at least after the end of January.

Sorry, I am just a little stressed, and confused with what our plans were going to be, judging at times, and being approved THIS fast! Just feels like I need more time to take care of some things, so I'm not sure how much time we have before I must move.

Answers and help on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresvisting rules around interview time?
Right, just as I thought, thanks for clearing that up! Last question is how long abouts would the green card take to come through after the interview is over
(assuming all goes well, of course.)

Ok, everything is almost done here for me! Medical appointment is coming up, and I am hoping to go on a short, last 2 week trip to America before I go for my interview. I`m assuming this is alright to do? However, another idea in mind is to go on the trip shortly after I go for my interview, but when that`s done I can`t remember... I wouldn`t be able to leave America until I get a Green Card, I believe?

Just want to clear this up before I make plans smile.gif

WOW!!!!
Just got approved! Found out through the case status check. No email or txt.
I urge every RFEer to call their respective congressmen if if you are waiting for more than 20 days. The wait time is horrible after RFE!

I will go nuts if they make me wait for 30 or 60 days after seeing other RFEs being approved in 5-15 days.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsRFE question
Hi,
I've been waiting for 12 days now since USCIS got my RFE response in CSC and no file touch or response yet from their end.

How do they usually notify when USCIS reviews the RFE response? Do they touch the file first and then respond or they just notify about NOA2 in case if they accept the RFE response.

I got so obsessed with checking the online status. It drives me crazy but I can't help it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsFebruary 2013 filers K1

I am still waiting on them to approve me after my RFE.  I went to check your timeline to see how far apart we were, but you don't seem to have one filled out.  What are your dates for receiving your RFE, returning it etc.?  If you don't mind me asking.

Hi,
The CSC received my RFE response on June 6, several days after I mailed it to them via cert. mail. NOA2 notice came via website around 6pm PST On June 19. The RFE requested a proof of personal meeting in Russia. I mailed them a copy of my Russian passport with my entrance/exit stamps (i am a dual citizen) and credit card statements showing me spending money in a city in Russia.

CanadaJust sent Packet 3
QUOTE (Micah Kam @ Sep 4 2008, 02:51 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I just sent Packet 3 today and priority mailed it for tomorrow afternoon with a tracking # so it should arrive Friday Sept 5, 2008

I'm so anxiuos.... I just need to ask this question that EVERYONE has already asked.... how long before an interview date after sending in Packet 3???

I hope I filled out those forms correctly. I used white out on the DS 230 Part 1 and the Montreal Consulate said it was okay. I also used white out to erase my signature on DS 156 and they said it was still acceptable. I feel I'm really pushing it.... who knows, human error, ya know? blush.gif

I didn't include passport photos wih the DS 230 Part 1 because it said in Packet 3 to bring 2 passport photos to your Interview, so I have them waiting in a small package.

What should you bring to your interview besides the DS 156K you have filled out, passport photos, proof of ongoing relationship, all original documents, and medical results? Am I missing anything else?

We have set a tentative wedding date for Dec 13....does anyone think this is too early? blush.gif

Hi there: According to my stats, the interview dates are around 80-90 days after you send in your packet 3. You should get your appointment letter 30-40 days after you send in your packet 3. So in your case, your interview will probably happen Dec 3rd, so its tight. The visa should show up a week later, Dec 10th. You might get lucky though...wish we would wink.gif

CanadaMac and cheese study reveals Canada's social inequality
QUOTE (kelland34 @ Aug 30 2008, 09:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Couple of comments.... first of all, Kraft dinner, as much as my son loves it, contains Tartrazine... it's a yellow color that a lot of countries have banned because of the link to behavioral issues. I get him an organic version instead, and yes, he would have it daily if I allowed him to.

Secondly (and not very importantly tongue.gif)... a big-### jar of cheez-whiz? #######? I am not thinking from a nutritional standpoint even.. I just don't know how people can eat that orange gelatinous goo tongue.gif

Because I haven't been here that long, I should point out that this post was meant in good nature and without judgment smile.gif

How about the White Cheddar Mac & Cheese - my kids prefer that one anyways.

CanadaMissed Interview Date
That's great! Congratulations! Looks like they are starting to book October up. The rest of us should start seeing letters arriving shortly. Thank God we are getting to the end of this part of the process - at least we will be with our SOs for the rest of it!
