Russia, Ukraine and BelarusConfused after case number K1 visa Ukraine

Your case timeline sounds very similar to ours. Has the embassy received your case yet? You can check it online here:

https://ceac.state.g...er/Status.aspx?   Choose Immigrant Visa and enter your case number.

Our case was just received at the embassy Aug 5. The status now says READY. My fiancée contacted the embassy to ask if she can schedule the interview and was told that she can schedule it. We still don't know for sure it the embassy will send a letter, but everything I've read says they will.

She is now ready to pay the visa fee and will schedule the interview. My understanding is that interview times are available most days right now.

I will post an update if she receives something from them.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusOptions for calling Ukraine

I use Google Voice, seems to be one of the cheapest options without any hidden fees that calling cards usually have (connection fee, weekly fee, some other bs fee). If you have an Android phone, you can set it up to use Google Voice for international calls just using the regular phone app and calling the number regularly. There's also this thing called OBi100 (pretty cheap on Amazon) that connects to your Google Voice account using your Internet connection and then you just plug in any regular home phone into it and you can use it as a home phone (free incoming/outgoing to US and Canada, and Google Voice rates for calling anything else). No need to pay for a home phone (be warned, no 911 access when using it)!

Otherwise the cheapest route to go is using something like Skype or any other Internet calling app and then it's free and usually has better voice quality then calling phones.

Thanks for the info vbtwo! I looked into the OBi100. And though I am not 100% sure yet, the info from OBi seems to indicate that if you have an OBi box hooked to the internet at home here and one hooked to the internet somewhere else in the world, that you can directly call between those two boxes using the identification number on the bottom of the box and the call will be completely free! There is no monthly or yearly fee associated with it. Just purchase two boxes ($40 - $50 each) and you can potentially communicate with someone across the globe without any additional expense! I'll provide another update as I get more info.

Thanks for the info everyone! I will check these options out and see what works best for us.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusOptions for calling Ukraine

Currently the communications between myself and my fiancée are via email, Skype and at times phone using calling cards. Once her visa is approved and she moves here, she will want to continue to communicate with her family regularly as she does today. Her parents are older and not technically savvy so the communication with her parents will mostly be by phone. Are calling cards the best option for this?

I looked at Vonage and see that Ukraine is not one of their 'unlimited' countries. Are there ways to call Ukraine other than calling cards?

National Visa Center (Dept of State)After case number given, does NVC send letter

how did you know your case received by nvc? coz until now we dont know our case progress..

we got noa2 on 24 july and until now we didnt know our case still on uscis or nvc or embassy....

You need to call the NVC @ 603-334-0700 or the Department of State @ 202-663-1225 . Give them your receipt number from USCIS and they will be able to tell you if the NVC has received your petition or not and if a case number has been assigned yet. Once you have your case number, you can track progress here:

National Visa Center (Dept of State)After case number given, does NVC send letter

We did finally receive a letter from the NVC today stating that our case was received there and would be sent to the embassy. This letter does not seem to be of real importance. The letter we are really waiting for is the letter from the embassy that is to be sent directly to my fiancée. My understanding is that this letter is needed at the interview.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionRe-routing Visa Package to New Embassy?

Your K-1 petition was approved on Jan 27th and sent to the embassy in Frankfurt a week later, and you haven't done anything with the process since then? Did you contact the embassy in Frankfurt to get the petition timeframe extended? From what I understand, the approved K-1 petition is only good for a limited time. I just received mine and it is valid for only 4 months.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussioninterview

I agree with Gary and Alla completely! The info of VJ is great, but the info on the Kiev Embassy website tells you exactly what they need and expect. They also provide valuable info regarding what your fiancé needs to supply.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsThey forget to send NOA2 hard copy???

I am currently dealing with the same situation. I am a Jan filer that was sent to VSC for processing and transferred TSC in late June. I called USCIS on Monday July 15th and was told by a tier 2 rep that my petition had been approved on July 6th. I told her that the status on the website had not changed... it STILL says 'Initial Review'. I also told her that I never received a text message or email about it being approved. She said it was likely just a 'system' problem. I waited the rest of the week but still did not receive the notice. So on July 19th I called again and talked to another tier 2 rep. This guy said that my status said "approval notice ordered". He said that status suggested to him that the petition had been approved but didn't understand why I have not received the notice within 2 weeks. So he said he was writing an email to the TSC to request that they send the approval notice. It's not bad enough that you wait 5 months and hear nothing... but then to be finally told by a rep that it's approved... but nothing else confirms it is frustrating!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNOA2 confirmed by Tier 2 Rep

Thank you!! So glad this first part is behind us

Received hard copy of approval NOA today!  Woohoo!!!  It is a little odd though. The Notice Date is 7/25, but it is valid from 7/06 to 11/05.  No matter... official petition approval in hand now!

On to the NVC...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNOA2 confirmed by Tier 2 Rep

Did you ever receive an actual "approval" prior to the message advising it was shipped?

The only 'approval' I received was in talking to a tier 2 rep. I was told it was approved, but until the website got updated last night, nothing else indicated my petition had been approved. Now I just need to get the hard copy in my hands :)

Congrats!!!! I know that is comforting--I am hoping to get this message soon smile.png

This is wonderful news--you had inputted a service request correct?

The tier 2 rep last week said he was sending an email to the TSC about this. He didn't call it a service request, but I did get an ID number that I could use to check the status when calling. So I can't say for sure if it was a service request or not. If you haven't received something about your approval yet, call USCIS tier 2 and either have them open a service request or send an email to the TSC to get your approval mailed.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNOA2 confirmed by Tier 2 Rep

I just received an email from TSC in response to the email the tier 2 rep sent on July 19. It says:

"On 07/06/2013, we approved your I129F however; due to a system glitch the system did not generate an Approval notice. We have submitted a request to have the Approval notice generated and mailed to the address on record."

To anyone that has been told by a USCIS rep that their petition was approved but a couple of weeks have gone by and you have not received your hard copy NOA2, my advice would be to call and either open a service request or ask the rep to send an email to the service center requesting that the notice be sent.

I will post an update when I receive my hard copy NOA2.

I just received an email from USCIS that states the following: "On July 25, 2013, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E). Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283."

The website is now also updated with this message. So I would say it is official... our petition HAS been approved!

I will post another update when I have the NOA2 in my hand

I was also told by a tier 2 rep that mine was approved on 7/6. It seems whoever did the approvals on that day must have missed a step!  I would love to be able to celebrate my NOA2 just like everyone else here does... BUT... I still have nothing concrete that says it was approved! I called USCIS again and was told by the guy that he was sending an email to TSC to request that the notice be sent. What a mess!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsUSCIS forwarding the case to the NVC

When USCIS actually sends your case to the NVC there should be a message posted on the USCIS website similar to this "we shipped this approved or re-affirmed case to the Department of State for visa processing".

So the answer is yes, there should be something at least on the site that indicates this. You may or may not get an email about it if you've signed up to receive email notifications from them.

Our case is a little odd. We were VSC that was sent to TSC. We were told by USCIS tier 2 rep our petition was approved on 7/6 but didn't receive our hard copy for 3 weeks. K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about getting married after receiving K-1
I also made a promise to her family. So we will travel back as soon as we can after getting married in the U.S.

Thanks for the advice! We will file AOS, EAD and AP immediately after our wedding here. I know it will be several months before we can travel back there, but I look forward to the time we can travel back there and officially celebrate with them.

Each time we have dinner with her family, it's like a celebration of sorts. So the celebration we have before coming here will be pretty much the same (except she'll be leaving with me :) We won't do anything that could be considered any type of marriage ceremony. The process is long enough, wouldn't want to do anything at that point to delay it further.

Best of luck with your May trip!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about getting married after receiving K-1
Thank you all for the info! We have discussed it and decided we will just have a celebration with her family before we travel to the U.S. but we will not get married in Ukraine at that time.

After our marriage here, the next time we travel back to visit her family we will get officially married there.

Thanks again for the info and support!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about getting married after receiving K-1
This question may have already been asked and answered a number of times here, but I haven't been able to find the answer.

So I apologize in advance if this question is a repeat :)

My fiancée is from Ukraine. We applied for a K-1 visa in January and are trying to make future plans.

It is important to her family to see us get married and to be able to celebrate this event with us.

After she is approved for and receives the K-1 visa, we would like to get married in her hometown for her family in Ukraine before traveling to the U.S.

Is this allowed? Or would this violate rules of the visa?

We will certainly also get married in the U.S. after arriving here, but her family cannot travel here to participate in this wedding.

Thanks for any guidance you can provide!
