Mexico, Latin & South AmericaBiological Fathers permission to travel outside of the country?
Thank you all for your response. She did visit DAS last week in Bogota and basically the procedure that Diana mentioned above is correct, must have fathers written permission. We will update this thread as the process becomes more well defined. Thanks again.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaBiological Fathers permission to travel outside of the country?
We just submitted our K-1 fiancée petition earlier this month and received our NOA1 so we are in the “hurry up and wait game”.

I want to be proactive with some of the various future documents that we need to start gathering so here is my question:

My Colombian fiancée has a young son. She was never married. The biological father lives in Europe and has had very little to no communication with his biological son. The biological father provides no financial support and no emotional bonds exist. There is no documentation as to custody issues whatsoever (like we typically have here in the states). The son's last name carries the biological fathers name.

What, if any, permission is needed from the biological father when it comes time for my fiancée and her son to leave the country? Will we need to track the biological father down in Europe and get him to sign for his permission that the child can travel out of the country with the mother?

Thanks in advance if you have any experience with this situation.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaNOA 2 valid from 10/20/10 to 02/19/11?

fax the ds-2100 and ds-230 to the embassy and mail one set also . make sure thay get it,the fax number 011-57-1-315-4155,thay schedule appointment the 15 of each month, call the d.o.t 202-663-1225 1 then 0 ask them for your new case number should start BGT GOOD LUCK

So if I understand it correctly we MUST have the interview BEFORE the 02/19/11 date or it will expire? Or are we only required to send in the ds-2100 and ds-230 completed forms by the expiration date of 02/19/11 and the actual interview will be scheduled and may occur after the 02/19/11 date?

Thanks for your help (all of you are very kind).

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaNOA 2 valid from 10/20/10 to 02/19/11?
My fiancee received the approval notice/package from the Bogota embassy on Nov. 2,2010, this has been almost one month now. We have not done/started/submitted any of the documents or police records or anything as this has been on the "back burner" so-to-speak while we iron out ourselves (long story).

Question - The NOA 2 approval says that it is "Valid from 10/20/2010 to 02/19/2011". What exactly does this mean? Is it that should we not have the interview by this time it expires? Or is it that we need to submit the documents they now require (i.e. DS-2100 AND DS-230)?

I have been reading through the process and the next requirements for her to move forward on and schedule but just am a bit lost. Thanks in advance for you advice.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaBogota Colombia Info

Hello everyone. My fiance (hopefully) will be having her interview at the embassy in Bogota, Colombia in the next few months. I am trying to find a list of information she will need to get together now so we can save some time after the initial approval here in the US. Does anyone have a fairly current list that they can provide so we can start gathering all the documents? Thanks for any help you can give me.

My Colombian gal (I was present with her) just had our interview this past week (January 19th in Bogota. We were approved with no problems. Along with gathering all of the documents, DAS, police reports, passorts, etc. be sure that the BOTH OF YOU ARE PRESENT FOR THE INTERVIEW.

The best of luck to the both of you! Follow the link to the information that On The Road Again provided and you will be fine.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaHow & where (USA or CO) to purchase airline tickets?
Hola to all,

Yes our visa journey is at a point where we need to set a date and buy the airline tickets!

Any suggestions on the most economical way to do this. Do I purchase the tickets (paperless) here in California or must my Colombian fiancee pruchase the tickets in CO?

The flight would be from Bogota and the POE is LAX. I have read that a round trip purchase would be best even though she will not use the return ticket. Anyone been down this path before that could lend their experience?

Mucho gracias,

Don & Nathalia (with Martin in tow)

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaNoncustodial parent permission

Hello. I am expected to pass through Bogota March 26 with my fiancé and her son on our way to our POE in Houston. I am only trying to be sure that I have the proper permission for Jenny’s son. I know I need his birth certificate and a permission letter from the noncustodial father. I recently just discovered this letter needs to be in Spanish, so we are trying to get a new letter ASAP. Jenny received a form from DAS that we are also completing although I don’t see mention of this form anywhere I looked. I do have a letter from the father stating he is giving permission for the son to relocate to the US and any future travels, but it is in English and doesn’t specify a travel date. We hope to soon have a new letter in spanish that specifies the travel date. Does anyone have any experience with this? Hopefully I have covered my bases.
Thanks

Hi Danny and Jenny,

We are at the stage that you are. We are waiting for the boys father to Fedex the notarized DAS document from Spain where the boys father resides. Be careful as it is my understanding that you must have this DAS document or they will not allow the boy to travel!

I recall reading this information in these forums in the past. Do a search and I am sure that you will find the information you need. I also recall reading that a new DAS document (must be notarized) is needed each and every time that the child travels out of Colombia.

Best wishes to you both!

Yes I double checked, then tripple checked, then again, then again, said a prayer at the post office before I sealed the USPS one day mail, and sent it off. Now the waiting starts.

I am thankful that this board exists as it provides a great service and help.

I am getting ready to call my Colombian fiancee this evening and tell her that the package has been sent and let the waiting begin! Like many of you, after spending a month together in my fiancee beautiful country of Colombia, we have been apart for 4 days (I returned to Southern Cal on Wednesday) and we miss each other so much.

Have a blessed evening all!

Don and Nathalia.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA1

We sent our I-129F petition on May 24, 2010 to the California Service Center, certified mail. USCIS CSC received our package on June 1, 2010. We have not received an NOA1 yet. Looking at other couple's time lines it seems like we should have had our NOA1 by now. They haven't cashed the check yet either.
Is anybody else in this situation or our we being impatient?

They must be slow with the Memorial Day holiday as my I-129F was received by CSC also on June 1, 2010 and, as of today Monday June the 7th, my check has not even been cashed. Were you really expecting the NOA1 so quickly?

I try to remember that "a watched kettle never boils".

Best of luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresk1 NOA1 missing middle name

when i received my NOA1,my fiance's (beneficiary) middle name wasnt also listed.Middle name is a middle name, as long as first and last name is correct, its ok. (i guess?)Posted Image

My fiancee has a first name, then a middle name (second place after first name) then she carries two last names (typical in latin american countries) for her birth father and birth mother. The NOA1 we received last week was lacking the middle name.

I think we are all Ok just must be how they show it. Time will tell.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresConfused On Documents!!
Copitas,

The direction and recommendations that these people are giving here is vital! The suggestions that JimVaPhuong just offered up will save you from going crazy.

These are folks who have "been down that road that your just thinking about traveling". I just want to encourage you to read this advice carefully, take it seriously as this will save you a whole bunch of time and effort and not to mention the emotional investment that you have.

Speaking for myself, it took me almost 2 months to wrap my head around what and how I was going to submit. I did submit my K-1 application on June 1st and hopefully I got it right with the help of these kindly suggestions that you will find here.

Best of luck to you and welcome to the forum.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHelp - A sad tale of a change of heart :-(
I will cut to the chase, because of circumstances I do not know if I wish to follow through with the K-1 interview/marraige :( .

Just yesterday she received from the embassy in Bogota, Colombia the documents to put together for the interview/medical/etc. so the question is - What happens if we do not do any further processing with the embassy in Bogota? I imagine that the NOA approval expires (it reads "Valid from 10/20/2010 to 02/19/2011"), should I or do I need to notify the embassy?

Curious if this will have any impacts should, in the future, I wish to apply for another K-1?

Thank you for your comments and suggestions!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA 1was June 1, 2010 and she's flying tonight, Bogota to LAX
Yes I just got a call from my fiancee Nathalia from the airport in Bogota, Colombia. As I type these words my fiancee and her son are getting ready to board the plane from Bogota to LAX.

I don't know how we did it. I don't know who had the most disappointments in the past year. The highs and the lows. The anticipation. The wait. The hurry up and wait. Months would sometimes drag by but then at times it was as if blocks of weeks of time took a quick fast forward, BUT then the drag was sure to resurface again.

The energy that we expended. The effort was at times more than we both bargained for. The frustration, sleepless and restless nights and days, miscommunication, doubts were certain to appear out of nowhere.

It was as if life was ON-HOLD, at a standstill. Strange. I still will not wrap my head around the reality until I see her walk through the immigration doors at LAX tomorrow afternoon.

I knew we both would need a great measure of patience matter-of-fact, we discussed this very early on in our courtship. Little did I understand that when feelings and emotions get their roots into our hearts it takes this patience to an exponential level.

So 10 months and 3 weeks from NOA 1 and she is now in the air completing this important part of our VisaJourney! And a journey it has been.
