Just thought I would update this topic.

I had no problems with DCF. I submitted my visa and registration and sports club membership to the consulate in St Petersburg and they sent them off to Moscow for me.

To clarify: I have been living in Russia for 9 months and will be married in a week.
How are you able to prove you have been residing in Russia for 9 months? Registration stamps?

I will be using registration stamps. A letter from an employer and an affidavit from the bridss parents and a statement from the people who I rent from.

To clarify: I have been living in Russia for 9 months and will be married in a week. I will attempt the DCF because I think I qualify. If my DCF is rejected for some reason I will have file in the US somewhere as I am domiciled in Oregon.

Does anyone know what the current time line is for filing these now? I heard recently (a couple of months ago) from someone working in the Moscow office that things were going quickly there. However I didn't know enough about the process, at that time, to be able to ask him for which visa. It may have been for a DCF, which is what I am going to attempt. Any ideas?

Thinking about it, why is your wife not travelling using the GC or NOA-1?????????????

I don't know anything about those. I thought she is free to travel since she has a two year Green Card.

Ooh! That's not good because I can't return for several months. My wife's passport has been sent back to Russia for renewal and it takes three months. Well, I shall just write and call them and and see what can be done.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionOverseas While filing for permanent status.
We are abroad while trying to remove the conditions and get the permanent green card. We have been relying on a relative to forward our mail to us but somehow the letter to inform us of the date for the Biometrics Interview did not arrive until a month after the interview was to take place. So we obviously did not arrange to be in the US for the interview. The letter states that if we miss the interview they will consider our case abandoned. Any suggestion on how to reinstate this process?

Ok We are just putting the final touches on the forms.
Just out of curiosity, I used to have an Alien Registration number but I was natualized 18 years ago. You don't think that they expect me to find the OLD number and put on form g325a do you, since I now carry a US passport?

And just to clarify:
g325a asks to check the box about what this is in connection with. I have heard several answers.
Check "other" then one of these:
"spousal visa"
"IR-1/CR-1"
"I-130 spousal visa support"
Is there an answer that is more clear to give? Which one do you think?

Thanks!
But on number 2, I see a highlighted place to type something before I write the spouses name. Would I write the word "wife"? and then continue in the next highlighted area with her (maiden) name?

Also I found the discussion on the patronymic name in the Russian forums. I think I'll drop her patronymic completely. Though it is written on her International Passport and listed next to her "given names" it is written in Cyrillic only and not translated into Latin Alphabet like her first name is. Only her fist and last name are translated into English (Latin) alphabet on her Russian passport! Anyway I read all the pros and cons of using patronymic and think it will be OK to forget it. It seems that both ways will work and one person even had a problems in USA because she used her patronymic though it was on her green card. (at the DMV of course)

The woman at the US Consolate told me to just photocopy the the other pages of the g325. I'll have to look on mine and see if there are those small differences. I never noticed. Autofill won't work for me.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresG-325A unclear instructions
Hi! We are trying to get these g325a 's finished, I have searched the forums but no luck. Here are the questions:

1. What is the FILE NUMBER A on the top right of the form? What do I do here?

2. On the 4th line down it says HUSBAND OR WIFE IF NONE SO STATE
there is a space to write something there am i supposed to write WIFE if filing for a wife and HUSBAND if a husband?

3. At the very bottom : Neither of us have a ALIEN REGISTRATION NUMBER so why do they ask as if it is the usual thing?. I am a US citizen and my wife has no green card obviously! Should we just put N/A right?

4. Ok the middle name thing: My wife is Russian. She doesn't have a middle name on her birth certificate. She has a patronimic name which is the feminine of her fathers first name. In her Internal domestic passport she has a "patronymic name" listed. In her International Passport her patronymic name is included as a second "Given name" . What should she put on these American forms where they ask for a "middle name"?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresFilling out The I-864
Ok I am using my Mum who makes plenty of money, as a joint sponsor, because I have been living overseas making next to nothing. So my wages are not even worth putting down. Not only that I don't even know how much I made and there is no way to estimate it. So what should I put on Line 23? Are they even going to look at my 864, since they will have to use the form I 864 that my mom is filling out? Should I just make a wild guess at some token figure?

But before that question is question 8.
Do I check the box next to "I am sponsoring the principle immigrant..." and then check "yes"?
Its a bit confusing!

As PP said, fees will differ depending on what visa you get./ whcih route you go. Also the medical fees can vary widely.
For me, doing IR-1 via DCF, it'll be about 1600 dollars all in.

$1600 ? What will that break down to exactly? The initial application is only about $355.

and I also found out this:
http://travel.state..../info_3178.html

Is there a fee to review the Affidavit of Support at a U.S. embassy or consulate abroad?

No. When the I-130 and subsequent Affidavit of Support (AOS) form listed above is filed abroad, at a U.S. embassy or consulate, this fee is not charged.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresTotal cost of Applications
I'm in Russia and planing on filing DCF with form I-130. I have read that the fee to file the I-130 is $355 but I am wondering what other future fees could be associated with the process. Hmm?

If I am refused the DCF option for some reason, perhaps I will try a K3, but I wont know this until I try filing, they tell me.

One of my main concerns is that I am not sure of my future, and may again have to file to have my wife move to Australia with me, as i am a duel citizen of US and Australia. Which, I assume, I will have to start the process all over again only for Australia instead. I really wish there was a way to take her to the USA for six months to a year temporarily, while I clear up loose ends, before deciding to file for immigration. We don't really want to file for immigration until we are sure of the country we will stay in and this depends on employment for me. But I don't see any other way of keeping her with me while I figure out where I will live permanently. Any opinions on that?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresA jerk working at the consulate
I went to the US consulate in St Petersburg to ask questions about my options for filing and had to talk to biggest jerk I'd ever come accross. The whole time I felt hurried. He did not want to answer any questions at all and only did so begrudgingly. But he would never let me finish my question before he jumped to the wrong conclusion and would give a negative response. He even told me that they can prevent anybody from using a joint-sponser if they feel like it. Has anyone heard of that?

I had more questions about the availability of a visa for my wife but he walked out and refused to hear them. He also had the sanction from someone who appeared to be his supervisor, so there was not much I could do. They told me that the sort of questions that I was asking were the kind of questions that would only be answered after I had paid and filed a form. But I can't file a form until I know it's restrictions. He treated me like someone who was trying to immigrate himself whom they despised or they thought I was trying to do something illegal. Through the whole process i was very polite, perhaps that was my mistake. I asked some other people about him after I left (St Petersburg is not that big) and they said it sounded like the same guy that was a jerk to them too. It's rather odd because the Russian woman that I usually talk to at the consulate is always polite and helpful while American dudes are the jerks. So, how am I supposed to get information in order the make a decision here, if the consulate won't tell me anything? Hire a lawer? I'm so pissed about it I am thinking about not returning to the USA. Are these kind of people representing America?

i'd rather send a copy of the naturalization certificate.. you have to copy the whole passport if that's what you are going to send, as oppose to one sheet of the certificate

Why do they want the whole passport copied?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresUS Naturalisation Certificate
I can send the Naturalisation Certificate but don't want to get into that because they made a mistake on it. It says that my former citizenship was from France instead of New Zealand. I don't want to deal with that problem right now.
They were really lame down at INS. It was the second mistake that they made. The first certificate said that I was from French Polynesia when they let me see it in their offices to check it, a week or two before the ceremony. I told them it was a mistake and should say New Zealand and I signed for another one that was to be given to me at the ceremony. I didn't realise that they would then write "France" on the next one and thereby make another mistake until a day or two later. At that point I was afraid to go back there again!

EDIT: Actually don't worry about this last question. I found the threads on this subject and has decided to omit a middle name on all documents.
