IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports	NVC Filers - February 2014	Sooooo. My husband has asked his tax accountant to prepare his 2013 taxes as 'married filing separately'. They were thinking for 2 weeks and said we'd need to obtain a tax ID for me and file my taxes for the last two years. Eh?? I'm not even a resident yet! Any thoughts? Advice? Would be greatly appreciated.   I've perused the irs.gov site some time ago for how new residents are supposed to file and it appears they're starting to file with the year they arrive on the immigrant visa.   when were you officially married ? i was married in 2013, so i only need to file married for 1 year. My wife does not have a SSN# so we are filing a w7 to obtain her ITIN and we include her income but take credit for her taxes paid. filing seperately depending on the income levels is horrible for me... so i am filing jointly and saving about 12k in taxes... the first year i have to file on paper and mail to a location for us.   i would question why you need to file for 2 years.. that means you need to open up the 2012 taxes your husband filed and amend them... then you need to re-order those transcripts... and have all that ready before you get to the NVC stage for AOS.   you can message me or just quote my text and i will reply... i know tax rules fairly well.	quitepainful	Male	Canada	2014-02-15 15:24:00

I also have around 40K  in my saving and checking account. Other than the VOE, i have everything else scanned and ready for NVC... I saw a post earlier about filing taxes as single or married and I spoke to my wife and she has filed as single this year even though we were married! :-/   She was advised to do this by her employer because I do not currently live in the States and do not have a SSN etc.    I've read contrasting advice on this. Some posts say the consulate does not care which way you file and others say it can raise a red flag.   It's too late to change now as everything has been accepted by NVC, so I'm hoping you have some good news for me!   Are we likely to be ok?   Cheers   why would her employer advise her to file single? perhaps you mean she was advised for the w4 which states how much taxes you want taken out of each paycheck? on there it says if non resident alien, check the single box.   the taxes you would file married sep. since you are married... however, if you already submitted the paper work not much to do at this point other than see if you get a checklist for it... I haven't seen one for this scenario, but I know there are quite a few people who file single... I actually just filed, but I opted to not file jointly as a result of having to deal with all the foreign accounts and treaty's, etc. I rather not open that can of works for another couple hundred dollars... risk vs. reward was not there. no need to have a SSN if filing sep. and spouse does not earn US related income.	quitepainful	Male	Canada	2014-03-06 19:48:00

LOL   i am glad that there is movement for approvals! It's been pretty crazy here as I've been explaining to my grandparents what happens next, and trying to explain to the girls what's going on. My husband was jumping up and down and yelling "YES!" when I told him. Now, to put the finishing touches on our NVC stuff.   I sincerely hope that they clear out the rest of us who have been waiting for so long quickly now. I'll be watching for approvals tonight, and hope that we're seeing more than just 1 a day. They're never going to clear this up if we're seeing so little movement.  For those who are approaching their 60 day date, I would strongly advise sending an email to the service center that has your case. They have 21 days then to respond to you, and if they don't you can contact the Service Center HQ's. And my understanding is that they actually respond to emails fairly quickly. (At least they did months ago when I wrote them and they couldn't help me. )   Please keep up in touch with your NVC journey, we hope to be in your shoes in the coming months!    So sad to see you leave the USCIS stage but so happy for you and your daughters to get closer to joinig your husband.	quitepainful	Male	Canada	2014-01-03 19:06:00

March date 19 2013 transfer to NSC on November 5 Approval 12/23/13 for NOA2 TOTAL of 44 day from transfer notice. I am in Brazil with my family crazy tomorrow we celebrate with whole family. I am sorry for those that are still waiting. Thanks to everyone for letting me rant. NBC	As there is such a huge backlog of paperwork (obviously) why not announce and implement a surcharge, and use it to hire extra people? If the K1s and K3s get processed quicker because they pay more, at least be fair enough to allow us to pay more to get the same time in processing. Is this being tremendously naïve? Or maybe implement two separate charges, and list realistic timelines for each, i.e., if you pay this minimum, $X, you can expect to wait this amount of time. If you pay $XX, you will wait this amount, etc.   i would easily pay for premium processing! regardless of the amount (within reason)... first born is not acceptable...
