I hope I am correct by saying, you can start the application process 90 days before the 3 year anniversary. That helps some.

Someone please verify this information.

US Citizenship General DiscussionWhat to expect
I wish that I were surprised by your post, but nothing surprises me about our governments various agencies. It appears to me that many things in Atlanta work much like the USCIS office there. Have you ever flown in and out of the Atlanta Airport? One word... NIGHTMARE!! I have personally heard agents in that airport speak to passengers in the most demeaning ways... They do what they want, when they want, and no amount of complaining will help, only hurt... To bad we could not file in another location. I am fully expecting that this last leg of the journey will be the longest. Thank you for the reply~

US Citizenship General DiscussionWhat to expect
Hello VJ forum,

I have been a member for a few years, and if ever I needed to research/confirm information about the process, or expected wait times for the various applications or field offices all I had to do was look back through the post and find the answer, but this situation is a little bit different. Maybe someone can shed some light on the Atlanta Field Office, and specifically how long it is taking to get an application (NS-400) through that office. It appears that the Atlanta office is way behind, and then you look at other offices and they are rapidly processing applications. What is the deal? Best guess from someone about expected length this final process might take?

Thank you in advance everyone.

Thank you for the reply. I knew it wasn't the interview letter, but I just found it odd that I would receive notification that we were scheduled to be scheduled without fingerprints. Highway robbery!! Yes, it has been less than a year since biometrics, and that fact should have saved me a few bucks. So now I wait to receive the interview appointment, and then maybe they take another fingerprint... Stay tuned...

Thank you for your insight. I would not be surprised if you are correct, because it makes perfect sense to charge for biometrics for three different applications. Fraud, waste and abuse, that is what the military calls it..

Biometrics was taken last year when "conditions were lifted" so, you are suggesting that we MAY not need to have biometrics taken again because they use the most recent? Then why pay the biometrics fee again? Can someoone please clarify? Thank you in advance- Vespa

DOES THIS MEAN THAT WE WILL BYPASS THE BIOMETRICS THIS GO AROUND???? I would have thought that the Bio would have been done before I would have received a letter like this. I look forward to the replies by all the good people here at VJ. Thank you in advance- Vespa

If your case status indicates that you are currently in this step, you have either been scheduled for an interview or are in line to be scheduled for an interview. US Citizenship General DiscussionCase Status:--> Testing and Interview
Hello forum- My case status states that I am in the "Testing and Interview" stage. I would like someone to comment on this status please. I am assuming that we bypassed Biometrics and went straight to the "Testing and Interview" stage because Biometrics was completed less than a year ago. With that said, how long should we "anticipate' waiting for some movement with this N-400? What would be the "best guess" for receiving an interview letter/notice?

I have checked the USCIS website, and specifically looked at the timelines for the Atlanta office. The Atlanta office has not updated where they stand since March 2011, so that does not give you a good idea about how long we might be waiting. Also, I have checked several of the Atlanta profiles here on VJ, and unless I go back to November of last year I cannot find anyone with a completed timeline relative to our situation. Each situation is a little different, and ours is uniquely different because Biometrics has not been required thus far, so any information that anyone could share would be appreciated. Thank you in advance- Vespa

I am assuming that the officer at USCIS would have taken note of the fact that we were not past the 3 year date, and at that point do you think he would then schedule for a return for the ceremony? I am more concerned about canceling our interview appointment than making two trips to Atlanta. It would be reassuring to know that they will schedule the appointment before we leave Atlanta on the 25th, as opposed to just waiting for another appointment. Would you suggest calling and speaking with someone in an effort to secure one appointment after the 3-year anniversary that would finish everything in one day, or would you let it ride and make the original interview and just have faith that the ceremony appointment will happen in a "reasonable" amount of time. Thank you again- Vespa

Once again I appreciate your thoughts. You know... interesting point you bring up concerning the 3-year anniversary. The actual day is not until August 10th, but with the 90 day window we were allowed to apply 90 days in advance, which was early May. Are you suggesting that we will be unable to take the oath until the actual 3 year anniversary? And another thing, you are right.. our case processed very quickly. Thank you again- Vespa

Another question for you please....

The drive to Atlanta is 6-7 hours round trip. Our interview is scheduled for 2pm. I am confident that there is NO WAY that we could do the interview/oath the same day.. is that correct?

Also, if that is indeed the case would you suggest arriving early on the interview date and requesting to be seen before your scheduled interview appointment, or would you just go ahead and send the interview letter back and
attempt to reschedule with an early morning appointment sometime in the future so as to finish up this process in one trip to Atlanta? Thank you again for all the comments you have provided.
Kind regards- Vespa

Thank you very much. We are happy that tomorrow will be the end of this VisaJourney. This forum/community has been a huge help. I wish others knew of it's resources and community of kind caring people that are here to
help. With the assault on the immigrants of this country people are going to need help.

And you are correct, I cannot believe how quick citizenship happened. This must be some kind of record, and I can only hope that it gives others the knowledge that it can and will work out, but patience is always required.

Thank you everyone for the past several years of advice and guidance. Lovely_lili

Can someone please update my entry (I'm afraid to mess up the format). I went today as a walk in for my biometrics!!

This is the link for the 2011 Oath ceremony calendar for Oklahoma City:

I haven't seen any other OKC filers but perhaps this would give you of an idea of where to find your office's schedule. Look for
your US district court.
Best of luck to all!

Can you explain the process for a "walk in" ? What does that require? Would you suggest it? We are waiting on Bio appointment now, so as soon as it arrives I was considering "walking in" but I am unsure of this process. I have done everything they have asked, when they asked, but this time I am facing a very long wait because of the snails pace in Atlanta. They are projecting 6 months or more. Your thoughts?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionBio yesterday in Birmingham
Bio yesterday had one interesting development. I am sharing this with everyone here because we all need yet one more thing to stress about as we walk the Visa Journey. So my wife arrives 15 minutes early for the appointment, fills out the required paperwork, and is seen promptly. The lady begins to take finger prints and the machine keeps refusing the prints, the lady makes several attempts to get a clear print that the machine will take. Then the lady states "I am just going to override this and send the print on it's way, your fingers are not good for prints." Then she states. " I hope that they accept this print, if not you would need to come back and get reprinted." CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHY IT HAS TO BE THIS WAY? If these people who manipulate the process had any idea the journey we have been on, if they could just walk in our shoes during this lengthy process they might be a bit more considerate regarding the way they approach their jobs. What can one do? Now the uncertain wait, will the prints be good enough? Will the process end in a month? Who know.....

Thank you everyone for all the kind words. This website (and the people who use it) have been such a great help. I think about what this process must have been like for people before, back in the day, when there was no one to commiserate with. I am grateful for the wealth of knowledge that this community has to offer. SO......I hope to post in a few days the arrival of the Green Card, and then after that it will be on to another section of this website, the section for those who will, and who have applied for citizenship, then this journey will be officially over. Wow, wow, wow... I am amazed. So you were notified by email? I have not done a lot of corresponding with USCIS via email. Amazing. I know that you both must be very happy, and we are happy for you. I see this phase as the next to last thing we need to do before my wife becomes an American, so I am really anxious to wrap this up.

You mailed your Biometrics or the processing center where you had Biometrics taken mailed it? That is the fastest approval I have read if in fact it happened for you in just a few days. Congratulations! We had Biometrics last Tuesday the 10th, any chance we could be approved that fast? Have a great Sunday~

And we have finally gotten our as well. It came in the mail today (7-29-2010). The notice date on the I-797 is 7/23/2010.

Our appointment in Birmingham, Alabama is for August 10.

I hope this was the first and only hiccup we experience the rest of the way. If all goes as planned my wife will be receiving her citizenship this time next year.

I want to wish everyone who continues on this journey the best of luck.

Kind regards~

Today marks the 60 day point since filing my original I751. I am not pleased with the way this has been handled, in fact I am fed up with a system that requires deadlines, and mandatory procedures, yet fails to live up to it's own rules. The deceit sickens me.

With all of that off my chest, I called twice today trying to receive a case number, I even pushed it up to a supervisory/management level and they still failed to provide me a new case number. She did file an inquiry on my behalf and issued me a reference number.

Vermont center is where I filed, and I do not think for one moment that the finger print center in Birmingham is lacking for appointment times.

The wait continues......

I want to call USCIS today and get some updated information and I thought I would ask the board how the would suggest that I approach the phone call? What questions to ask? How to handle the customer service rep that I will speak with initially. Thank you for your help in advance~

Still nothing... I am very disappointed with the way this is being handled. I cannot for the life of me understand why they would put applicants ahead of those who filed on the date they required. We lived up to our portion of the commitment, why can't they?

I think I will wait it out for a few more days and then call and tryl to obtain my receipt number. I noticed on the timeline that they are tracking here on VJ that there is one person from the VERMONT service center who has fallen right in line with many earlier in the month, but from that point forward it looks as though there are several of us in a limbo state. I am a patient person thank God, but I would like confirmation that the process is ok, and that all is well. A notification from USCIS on their website describing a problem would be helpful, but to acknowledge a problem displays weakness. I must be filled with weakness...

I just got off the phone with someone, and they would not provide a receipt number, but instead started some action that will find out why I have not received the appointment notice. She told me this process can take up to 45 days. They notify Vermont that I did not receive bio date, they in turn contact the local Bio office to schedule. This is disappointing, but I should not complain, because all along this journey there has never been one single delay. I guess it was to be expected. I was told not to call for 45 days, what does the board think of that? Happy 4th of July to everyone~
