Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)There's Hope
It's been a long and expensive journey but today I received the I-797 that began with those words...
"Welcome to the United States of America"

My 10 year Green Card is in the mail and I am shocked and overjoyed, particularly since I have 3 criminal convictions in one country and 1 in another. I've never spoken about this here because I am deeply ashamed of those things I did (fraud and theft) and I never believed I had any right to deserve a visa or the right to stay here. I followed the procedures , admitted my past and today it feels like America forgave me and gave me a second chance. I am ecstatic and I will do everything in my power to be the very best citizen in waiting I can be.

There is no doubt that I would not be in this position without a lot of the advice from this board so deep and sincere thanks to you all. I figure I have some giving back to do , so ask any questions you like. And for those out there who are struggling with a past , hang in there, there really is hope.

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)Question about past record

Is there anyway we can do a thorough enough background check ourselves to find out if it is there.

I see where you are going with that question and that way lies danger.
If you do not disclose you could be considered guilty of attempting fraud and that could really screw things up.
In your position I would start thinking more of ways to mitigate it that to hide it.
As you can see here even far more serious charges are not necessarily a bar.
