K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresshould i get an attorney to handle the K-1 visa.. or do it myself?

I'm not a doctor but I would think the main issue if it's chronic and if its only affecting the skin. I suggest you see a private doctor and get the low down before going into the medical exam. Im sorry if I missed where your fiance is. Was it the Philippines? The infamous St. Lukes Hospital?
Good luck

well, it's lupus, she has to go for a checkup monthly for a blood/urine test to make sure the medication is keeping it in check. it's not a very severe case or anything.

yeah, shes in the philippines... manila - so i'm guessing st lukes? is there something i should know about st lukes?

thanks again everyone for your advice. ive spent hours today pouring over the wiki here. it's extremely helpful along with everyone's advice.

thanks so much for the information everyone. i will attempt to do this myself.. given all the advice here.

i was reading over the wiki here, and it seems our case is straight forward... the only thing im concerned about is the "medical exam" what exactly are they looking for during the exam? she has lupus, will that hinder our application in any way?

We started with a lawyer because we hadn't heard about VJ yet. They slow up your case substantially because they have no vested interst in turning documents around quickly or even following up beyond a phone call (which you can do yourself)

After we found VJ we fired our lawyer and the process went MUCH smoother after that. Many veteran VJ members are well versed on the process.

Unless your case is particularly complicated, a lawyer is not necessary. This is a great community for support and advice

Good luck.

i dont think the case is overly complicated or anything... im just not a great person to sit down and do paperwork (missing my t's and i's), so i was just looking for the easiest/best solution.

thanks for the advice... i assume most people here feel the same? you'd think for the $$$ these places charge they would have a semi-vested interest in getting the case turned around quickly.

reading through this thread, it seems most of you did all the paper work/processing yourself. i was thinking of going through an attorney that specializes in this type of thing - do any of you veterans have an opinion on that? good idea, if i want to make sure it's done correctly / followed through?

if it's a good idea, do you recommend a specific place to go through for a K-1?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureschange of address - quick question

What ever visa your going for makes no difference in the change of address for the petitioner. Read the 'Instruction on the form'

yeah, i was reading it... but i guess this part confused me:

"When Should I Use Form I-865?

If at any time in the past you completed Form I-864, Affidavit of Support, to sponsor an immigrant, you are required to report your change of address within 30 days of the change if the sponsorship agreement is still in force"

I didn't fill out an I-864... I've only completed the i-129f and g-325a and am currently waiting on my noa2.

thanks for the assistance.

ive searched the forum and i know you can change your address online, or call them (i'm the petitioner)

i was wondering, are you still able to change your address even after you receive your noa2 and it goes to the nvc/embassy?

also in my forum searches i found only a few discussing it, and one person changed his address and ended up never receiving the noa2... is this a risky thing to do? should i suck it up and wait for the visa process to be complete before moving?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe RFE Master List
Hi guys!!!!

We sent our I-129F package last July 21, 2008 got our NOA1 last August 14, 2008. Unfortunately we weren't able to follow the whole instructions about sending and the documents needed to send when filing the K1 visa. I just discovered Vj site after we filed our petition. We weren't able to send the cover letter and the letter of intent to marry from both of us...and we didnt put our names at the back of our passport size photos. So we dont know if we will get an RFE but i hope not. We sent the proofs that we met in person like pictures together and some other documents. The only lacking is the letter of intent to marry.

Until now, we are still waiting for our NOA2...hoping we wont get an RFE...

Yes you do. Even for periods of unemployment you need to state he was unemployed. It is important to give them the infromation for the time frame they are asking for. So if they are asking for 10 years of employment and he only worked 6 months. Then state for 9 year and 6 months he was unemployed and for 6 months he was working.

Hello,

I'm in the process of applying for the K-1 visa, which includes the G-325A form. When filling out my information it was pretty simple; however my fiance brought up a concern when it came to his information, which has me wondering. Do we have to list his volunteer work information on the G-235A in the employment section if he listed it in his travel visa application?

Any help would be much appreciated.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFORGOT TO ATTACH CHECK FOR FEE

Hey! My fiance sent the packet not long ago and it was delivered Dec. 23. He sent it with the wrong fee amount, we didn't notice they changed it Nov. 23! :bonk: and now we are also waiting for it to be returned, RFE'd or SOMETHING! Let's keep each other posted and see how long it takes

Things like this happen to anyone  ... but it's worth to be patient while waiting to be with ones true love! :P

Hi Diana,

You are applying for a K-1, Not a Spouse visa, moving this to the correct forum.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow long apart?

Hey everyone,

I just said goodbye to the one I love after a amazing 3 weeks together. The plan is that I wont see her for nearly 6 months. We both are finishing school and she has a lot of wedding planning to do. We're currently in the K1 proces (September 2010 filers) aiming that our wedding will be on Augst 6. 2011 and me leaving to be with her in July.

Now Im really down with that time that we have to be apart. This is the longest we havent seen eachother, herefor almost 4 months. Now my question is to see how long other people havent seen there beloved ones, hopefully it will make me feel better.

Thank you :)

The longest we were apart so far was for five months and that was torture. It's hard to be away from a love one for any time period, but what has helped to ease our pain a little was being able to see each other through Skype. It wasn't the same as physically being next to each other, but at least we are able to look into each other's eyes through our webcam as we talk and be a part of each other's day to day activities during certain times of the day. Hang in there, the process and wait may be long, but at least in the end of it all, you will be together.

All the best,

Beatrice & Steve

Call NVC and give them your USCIS receipt number. They will ask you a couple of personal questions to verify who you are. Then they will tell you the status of the petition. You will need to ask them for the LDN number. You can call DOS to find out if the petition has reached the Consulate and its status. Congrats on the NOA2! Best wishes for the rest of the journey.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPACKET 3

Hi everyone,
I wanted to know if the forms for packet 3 which are available for DOWNLOAD on VJ can be filled out before actually receiving the hard copy of the DS-156K AND DS-230 FORMS?

In the download section for these forms on VJ, it says "these forms will be provided by the US Embassy handling the Visa" so is it a waste of time to fill it out now. I am not into doing things twice so if I need to wait for them to come in packet 3 I will but if not I don't want to wait when I can complete it now.

DS 156K
DS-230
I-134
Do I also need to fill out the DS-156 as well as DS-156k?

I have been looking around the site for the answer and I did not find a post asking this specific question.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Chynna

Some people complete Pkt 3 before getting the actual pkt. Others wait. The forms that were needed at the US London Embassy were: DS2001, DS230, DS156, DS156K, and DS157. Some people send the I134 and supporting documents with the pkt 3 and others take it with them to the interview. You can check on the US Haitian Embassy's website on VJ for more info: http://www.visajourn...=Port-au-Prince

I hope this helps.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSo frustrating!

I know that this process can be so frustrating. I had originally planned to get married on October 29th of this year (we filed our petition in March)...but with the way things are looking right now, I have decided to move my wedding date to December 3rd. It does take, on average, 4-5 months just to get the approval for your petition (I-129F), and that's if there are no RFE's. Then...the case is sent to NVC, where it can sit for nearly 2 weeks. Then...it is sent to the embassy in London.

Your fiance will also need to go to London for a medical exam, but this is done AFTER your petition is approved and after you get a case number from NVC. Around that time, you will also get a letter from the embassy (packet 3)...there will be more forms to complete and you will also need to gather more documentation for the interview. I am told that from the time that the embassy in London receives your completed packet 3 forms, there is an average wait time of 7 weeks before the interview date. My fiance and I are in this waiting period now. He just sent packet 3 back to the embassy yesterday, so I'm thinking he won't have an interview date until somewhere around the middle of October. He will not be able to come over to the states immediately because he will have a lot of packing to do, plus selling his car, getting rid of his flat, resigning from his job and securing a shipping container to ship his belongings over here (so if your fiance has anything like this to take care of...make sure you give him ample time to do all of it before he comes over).

So...I agree with others who have responded here....if you can possible change your wedding date, do it. Do NOT make any wedding arrangements at this time that can't be changed (such as renting a hall for your reception, or having your wedding invitations printed). The only advice I can give you at this time is....be flexible. :)

Good luck!

 Ditto. We orginally had a wedding date of August 7th, but when we received the petition approval in late May and realized that we had addtional paperwork and interview to get through, we changed the date to Oct. 21st. We are going to elope and do a wedding full of family and friends next year. This reduced our stress threefolds. I would definitely encourage working with a flexible wedding date because there are no guarantees that the processing time will work for you. Good Luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresChecked Status Update

Thanks so much for responding. I am praying it is minor. My fiance thinks we didn't have enough pictures. I sent 4 or 5, and wrote the dates and i think location on the back since I forgot to set the date on the camera. My other concern is I couldn't show cell phone calls because we actually communicated mostly on messenger to save money and when we were on the phone(not a cell phone) I used an international phonecard which you just keep adding money onto. I did print out a copy of when I added money on every time trying to show that it was a good amount. Now we talk on Skype and I use Rynga to talk to him. it's awful though not knwoing yet what they are going to want and praying it is minor, and then wondering how the heck you missed something. lol

I had that same problem with the cell phone and phonecards, but if you are using yahoo messenger you can print the voice call logs and send those instead to show how often you talk on there, only if you were using the voice call. Also you can print the chat log with name and dates.
