Indiareschedule interview with Mumbai Consulate
I don't have any answers for you about what to do, but we are having the same problem. We have have an interview coming up in Delhi and have been trying since October to get the required documents, but haven't yet due to strikes, holidays, etc. We have even paid the additional "fees" to expidite the process. It's so frustrating trying to get anything done here.

Indiapacket 3 documents
Did they receive the documents you sent through courier?
Kim n JaiFemaleIndia2012-03-13 11:10:00
IndiaNo Packet 3, it has been more than a month
I've pasted below a list of common mistakes on DS-230 that I just came across and see that I made the second mistake listed. I wrote N/A instead of "none" or "never" where applicable. Anyone have any idea what kind of problem this might cause?

Below are some common problems we encounter in conjunction with Immigrant Visa applications. Please take time to read the items below and become familiar with the information you received in this package so that your immigrant visa processing can go smoothly and quickly.

Application Form (DS-230):

•Complete all sections of the application. Do not leave any question unanswered. This includes all parts of questions 22 and 23.
•Do not use the term "not applicable" or "N/A". Instead write "none" or "never".
•Sign and date the bottom of page 2. Copies or facsimiles of your signature are not acceptable. Parents of children under 14 should also sign the child's name and write "by (father) or (mother), whichever is appropriate.
•Do not sign the bottom of page 4. You should only sign page four when instructed to do so by the consular officer during your visa interview.

IndiaNo Packet 3, it has been more than a month

This is great information. I read on K1 Visa instruction that Packet 3 contains only DS-230 and DS-156. Is that all you sent? I just want to make sure and not mess it up. Can you guys please confirm that these are only 2 forms to be sent? Also, can you share email address to which these forms to be sent? Or the link someone mentioned where these documents can be sent? Please help. S

Packet 3 contains the Applicant Statement and DS-230 (part 1, which is two pages). Mine was for Delhi, so for Mumbai I'm assuming it's infousmumbai@vsfhelpline.com.

The link to DS-230 is: http://www.state.gov...ation/81807.pdf

I've pasted the Applicant Statement below:

Applicant’s Statement

I have in my possession and am prepared to present all documents listed above which apply to my case. I fully realize that no advance assurance can be given when or whether a visa will actually be issued to me/us. I also understand that I should NOT give up my job, dispose of property, or make any final travel arrangements until a visa is actually issued to me. At such time as it is possible for me to receive an app ointment to make formal visa application, I intend to apply (check appropriate boxes):

IndiaNo Packet 3, it has been more than a month

Indian consulates are notorious for never sending packet 3 or it getting "lost" in the mail.
The good news is that you can download all the forms you need from the Mumbai consulates website. Email the completed forms to the consulate or mail them via a courier. Make sure to get tracking or some form of delivery confirmation to know they received it. Even if your tracking shows it as delivered, follow up with a phone call or email to confirm they have it.
Good luck!

Yes! I sent Packet 3 via courier to Delhi and tracking confirmed that it was delievered on March 3rd. However, when I emailed to confirm (several weeks later) Delhi said they never received it. They then provided me with the web link to Packet 3 and I was instructed to scan it and email it. I was informed by another VJ'er that Delhi does not accept Packet 3 via courier.

Indiamedical examination scheduled for post date???
Thanks! I emailed them a few hours ago, after reading that you had received yours, and I got a response with a link (that was NOT a link) to packet 4. They didn't address my request for the interview letter and I didn't need packet 4. Oh well, I'll try again tomorrow as they have no closed for the day.

Indiamedical examination scheduled for post date???
I would think you could call the doctor and reschedule the appointment. Also, I would suggest emailing infousdelhi@vfshelpline.com for direction. They've responded to my inquiries usually within the same day.

We have an interview in Delhi scheduled for May 1st, but have not received packet 4 yet?
Kim n JaiFemaleIndia2012-04-18 01:10:00
IndiaNervous wreck!!!
What is your age difference? We are interviewing in Delhi on May 1st and have a 19 year age difference with me (the female USC) being older. I completely understand how nervous you must be and know I will be as well when our time comes. Meditate, drink some calming tea, send energy? That's about all you can do right now. Best of luck!

IndiaPSK - Applying for Passport Online

Yes interview letter will do....But if interview is on 1st consider hiring an agent for getting passport.
He will do all the formalities for the tatkaal scheme and they are experienced.

If it gets it done faster we'll hire one, but where would we find this agent?
Kim n JaiFemaleIndia2012-04-21 02:39:00
IndiaPSK - Applying for Passport Online

However, there are some requirements to apply under tatkaal. For instance, urgency letter signed by employer or IAS rank officer.

I don't see anything on the website about this requirement when I begin filling out the online application. We don't have an employer letter, etc., but what about an interview letter from the embassy stating that he has an interview on May 1st?

IndiaPSK - Applying for Passport Online
Can anyone offer any experience they've had with obtaining their passport through PSK, either online or in person. Their website says if you apply for Tatkaal (exipedited) you will received the passport in three business days. We've been told by several people that this is not true. Please share your experience.

India2011 Taxes and Interview date in May
We interview on May 1st and I have not filed 2011 taxes either. I don't know if this will be a problem, but to be prepared what I am doing is bringing the tax extension form, previous three years transcrips, and asset documentation that meets the required amount. I don't have paycheck stubs as I've been in India for the past 6 months.

Indiacan't get psk online :( totally stuck
We had this same problem with the Jaipur PSK, but we were able to contact them by phone and were told the same as Mr America, to log on at 4 pm when appointments are released. We did this, but the appointment we got was too far out so my fiance spent several days going back and forth to the PSK office instead.

It sounds like he might have to travel there if you are still unable to get an appointment by trying at 4 pm. Though I wouldn't expect him to get it all done in a day as everything seems to take several trips back to any agency (any agency) in India to get something accomplished.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresForm 1-134: Documentation from Financial Institutions

I'm sorry to hear that, but the instructions are very specific. Print out the I-134 instructions, and the example bank letter found under example forms. Go down to the bank with those in hand and ask for the manager, and show him what the GOVERNMENT is asking for. You shouldnt be denied.

-Bonnie
:jest:

Thank you! I hadn't seen the example bank letter. I did forward the I-134 instructions and I did state to each that the government was requesting this information to no avail. However, I did not physically go to the various banks as their locations are unknown to me since they are for things such as my 401K. I guess I will have to find locations for each and go their if this will get them to do it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresForm 1-134: Documentation from Financial Institutions

If you qualify on income you do not need to include any asset or bank info.

Visit a banking center in person and you should be able to find someone that can help you to obtain the letter if needed.

Unfortunately, I work per 9 week contracts so my annual salaray fluctuates each year. This year has been significantly low. I asked my employer to provide me with a statement documenting the average of the 6 years I've been employed there as this would be more representative of my income and would qualify, but they refused, so I'm collecting information on my assets.

The problem with going to the banking center is they are for things like my 401K, an online savings account, etc., but I suppose I can probably find an office somewhere for each of them if you think I that would get them to provide me with what I need...hopefully within driving distance.

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresForm 1-134: Documentation from Financial Institutions
As required on Form I-134 I've contacted my financial institutions (five) requesting a statement that includes 1) the date the account was opened, 2) the amount deposited this year, and 3)the current balance. All have denied my request. I have current bank statement for each, but will they be accepted in lew of the "statements"?

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresScanned Copies of Forms
Two of the forms, the 129F and the letter of intent, require my fiance's signature. So I emailed him the forms and he printed them out, scanned them and emailed them back. Due to the length of time to send something by mail from India to the US this is the most efficient way to do it, but are the scanned copies of the forms acceptable? I called the USCIS to ask and they said, they didn't know, and suggested I submit the K-1 application with the scanned forms, and if it gets denied, resubmit in. (I told them this defied logic altogether and was an sheer waste of my time and theirs)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresincome for interview?

The only requirement is last 3 years tax return. I did send in 1 month of pay stubs right before the interview. They were never looked at. An employment letter recently dated before the interview should be sufficient along with 3 years of tax transcripts or copies of the entire tax returns with un-copied W-2's

Really, three years of tax returns, not recent pay stubs? Where can I find this information? I was getting concerned because I am a contracted employee so my income fluctuates from year to year. Past years meet the minimum requirement, however this year does not. Though I'm still employed with the same company I haven't received a paycheck for a few months now.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEmployment letter

Let me clarify (since John wrote the original post): I just started a new job working for the state I live in. Their policy is that under no circumstances will they waste admin time on verifying employment. I asked and was told this is policy. period. I received a copy of the policy. They have a verification service that will verify I am employed and what my salary is. I can put this information on letterhead myself-I think (I need to check)- and submit it with my pay stubs. Has anyone else had this come up? I might be able to get my super to bend the rules for me under the circumstances but I do not want to ask-especially since I am new-unless I absolutely HAVE TO. I would think they would call to verify employment. I could be fired, layed off, etc. since the letter was written not to mention the potential for fraud (how do they know someone didn't just write the letter themselves?). This is a US Government agency even if it is based in the immigrant's country so I would think they would absolutely check even if it is only to go on Department of Labor's database the same way Child Support Enforcement does to verify someone is employed and where. I was more curious if anyone else had to document this in a roundabout way.

My employer uses the same system - they give you a number to call to verify employment. I basically told them that the information needed to be included as part of a government application, so I needed the information provided to me in a letter format that includes the items the government is requesting. At first they told me they couldn't do it. I insisted, they spoke with their legal council and came back with a letter including exactly what I had requested. So, I know you want to tread lightly since it's a new job, but I think by law they have to give what you're looking for.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresBest way to send K-1 Application?

UPS allows you to not only to track package but also see who signs for it at the USCIS or NVC. I had a problem with my paperwork being untraceable. Between the post office & NVC it was never found. My case was held up for months because my confirmation @ post office said it was there & I thought NVC was just backed up when I never heard from them after a period of time. Sorry 2 make this a long story.

Thanks for the input! Not too long of a story and well worth the read.

To a degree. But you said there was only a difference of 1/8 of an inch. I don't think they're that picky. As long as it's 2 x 2 and their face is visible and everything, then you should be fine.

Okay, well if they're not that picky everything else about the photo looks good. Thanks! BTW, great site you provided.

As long as the entire picture is 2 x 2, that's all that really matters for dimensions.

Really? It does not need to meet the dimensions in the "photo composition template"?

Thanks for your responses so far. I was able find another place that printed the photo and said they did it to US standards, but when I got home and measured it I'm not sure it is. From the very top of the head to the bottom of the chin is nearly 1 4/8ths inches. The standards say this measurement should be 1 3/8ths. Do you think it's unacceptable?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPassport Photo
My fiance in India sent me a digital copy of his passport photo. When I took it to have it printed I ran into some problems. The photo center does not have an India template so couldn't print it to India standards and the photo does not fit US standards. This left me questioning who's standards it should fit, India or the US? If India, how do I get it printed to their standards?

HI GUYS ME AGAIN!!

I HAVE A VERY QUICK BUT IMPORTANT QUESTION! SINCE I AM THE I-129F PETITIONER FOR THE FIANCE VISA, WILL I GO TO AN INTERVIEW BEFORE MY FIANCE COMES TO THE STATES? AND WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?!?!? I'M A BIT WORRIED!!

ALSO I HATE TO ADMIT THIS BUT AS I MINOR BEFORE I TURNED 18 I WAS ARRESTED TWICE , WILL THAT JEOPARDIZE MY FIANCE'S CHANCES OF COMING HERE?! ;( I REALLY HOPE MY REBEL AGES DOESN'T BITE ME IN THE BUTT NOW :(

IF ANYONE KNOWS LEGITIMATE ANSWERS PLEASE HELP!!
THIS SITE HAS BEEN AAAAMAZING SO FAR AND I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT! BTW EMILIYA27 YOU HAVE BEEN REALLY AWESOME THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP! :)

My understanding is that an arrest under the age of 18 does not go on your record, so I would not think those arrests would be a problem for you, but I am no authority on this.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNow what?

And another thing that we cannot possibly answer is that you need to be thinking WAY beyond the visa/immigration process. This whole visa/immigration process is such a small part of LIFE that it is barely worth mentioning.

What about your LIFE? You are bringing a foreign person here that may not speak English, what anout English classes? What about school transcripts, education evaluations, getting a drivers lisence...ad infinitum! We do not know your situation but if you were moving from New York to Texas it would be a pretty big deal and that is the same country, same money, same language, even reciprocal drivers lisences! It is nothing compared to moving halfway round the world to a foreign country.

Only YOU know your life circumstances and only you can prepare for them. What are your fiance's desires? Mine wanted to get a Masters Degree in Teaching English from a US university. She started her program with a 50% private grant 5 days after arriving due to the preparation we did in advance. She was in college here before we got married!

You are going to be busy. Really busy.

This is off topic to the original question, but I am interested in hearing more about that grant and the preparation you did. Could you please tell me more about it as my fiance is interested in begining his studies at some point after arriving. Maybe you could message me if it's too off topic.

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit of Support
For the past three years my income has been above the required amount to sponsor, so I have three years of tax forms that qualify me. This past year, however, there has been a decrease in work (I work per an 8 wk contract) resulting in a substantial reduction in income that is now far below the financial requirement. I do have plenty of equity in my home (nearly paid for), some savings, etc., to more than make up the difference. Is this acceptable?

Thanks!
