Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussioni-751 January 2014 filers
Our mistakes (we filed reeeeeally late) actually made this a very long and painful process....but definitely worth every minute of paperwork and research in the end! ;)

We had our I-751 interview on March 12th and we were approved! :) I had done fingerprints recently so they didn't send me a biometrics letter...however, I think they'll be sending me one now because I'll likely need a current photo. The immigration officer said that my card would be generated and mailed to me within the next 6 months! I still have a removal proceeding master calendar date set for August,...but that will now be a formality because I am officially back in status....so the case will be dismissed.

We couldn't be more grateful! Now we can focus on the new baby boy we are adopting next month! :)

Thanks to everyone on this site for your support and sharing! Good luck to all of you who are still going through the process.

We got a letter for an I-751 interview today. It's scheduled for March 12th. Is it normal to receive an interview letter before a biometrics letter?

No Biometrics Appointment letter yet. Our NOA1 was dated Jan. 28. Others seem to have received theirs so quickly. Is this normal? Our case is being processed through the California Service Center.

Updated dates below. We received our NOA1 (receipt) in the mail today!

Our check was cashed today! :)

Does anyone know whether or not USCIS would issue me an I-551 stamp for travel, after we receive our NOA1, since my status was previously terminated due to late filing? My Mom has been diagnosed with a brain tumor and hubby & I desperately want to be by her side in Canada right now. I've copied & pasted my previous post so you can review the situation we have created for ourselves. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

So our case is a little more unusual. We made the HUGE mistake of filing our I-751 REALLY late! My status expired in Jan. 2013 and we attempted to file in June 2013. At the time, we couldn't afford the fee and filed a fee waiver with it. The package was returned because we didn't send enough evidence to approve the fee waiver. I was soon put into removal proceedings and received a notice to appear. We resent the I-751 package earlier this month, with a check for the fee, and the immigration judge agreed to allow USCIS to review our filing. It was sent back due to a missing page...UGH! I've tried to be meticulous but we can no longer afford a lawyer so I've been researching like crazy AND have been representing myself in immigration court...it has been pretty overwhelming....so I'm trying not to be too hard on myself for the recent error. I've received conflicting information from different lawyers and other govt employees...and have made errors due to my lack of knowledge and solid information :( My biggest concern is that my mother has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and my husband and I really want to be with her in Canada right now...so we're doing all that we can in order to make that happen ASAP. I even considered voluntary departure just so we could leave...but was advised against it...just in case of any "barring" issues because I have 2 stepchildren here in the US and it would be devastating to be kept away from them.

So here's where we are...

01/27/2013 I-751 package re-sent "overnight" to the Caliornia USCIS location (this is our third attempt to file)
01/28/2013 Package received at California USCIS location; and signed for.
01/28/2014 Date of NOA1 (receipt)
01/30/2014 check cashed (but didnt show in my online banking until 01/31/2014)
01/31/2014 Received NOA1 (receipt) in the mail.

Please say a prayer for us that all goes well. I don't believe that the one year work & travel extension will apply to me because my status was terminated....however I have read of cases where people in our shoes got an I-551 stamp in their passport and were able to travel. If you have any knowledge or experience with this type of thing, we would love to hear from you! We are willing to do anything to get to Canada to be with my Mom without having to wait months for my final green card before we can leave. We welcome all advice and assistance!

In the meantime, I will continue to update our progress in case we can help anyone who is in a similar situation.
