Thanks for the congratulations and information.

I am going to call the Embassy and see what they say tomorrow, then make a decision based on that.

Hi guys,

I was just wondering if anybody has any information about visiting the US before the interview date.

My fiance gave birth a month early today. The problem is my packet 3 is stuck in processing hell. We sent it out 4 weeks ago this friday and we cannot do anything about it not getting there until that day, and even then we do not know what action the embassy will take. They may just ask us to send it again.

I was wondering if it would be possible to visit just for a week or two. Until i get my interview date. Money isn't an issue i would just like to know if this is possible as i really need/wan't to be there to help out.

I don't really have anything like an apartment contract or a job contract as i am living at home and i'm unemployed at the moment. Is there anything else i can use as proof that i will be returning?

Any help would be wonderful, i really need some information.

Thank you,

Neil.

Gemmie- You're certainly not the only couple that has these kind of troubles. People always talk about how hard this all is because they miss their fiance, but rarely talk about how hard this is because of the strain it puts on the relationship. If there's a couple that finds being apart easy then they probably shouldn't be together. My point is it's normal to feel the way you do, i'm sure most of us have at some point during the time spent apart. Hope you feel better!

Terri- We do the movie thing too. A DVD and a webcam is a great way to make it feel like you are together. Even though we press play at the same time, for some reason my DVD always goes miles ahead of Ashley's. So i will start laughing and she has no idea why.

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone can help me,

I have a medical exam in London on wednesday and need a copy of the medical questionnaire.

Does any body have a link to where i can find it, or have it themselves that they could email to me.

I would be ever so grateful.

My email is - neilneilwood@googlemail.com (i know you shouldn't give out email addresses but at this point i don't really care)

Many thanks,

Neil.

We got our hard copy of the NOA2 today (a week later) and we're a little confused.

It mentions that our file has been forwarded to "the Consulate" stated and then they don't list London anywhere and they don't mention the NVC either - isn't it their job to forward it to the Consulate?

Gemmie, you said your NOA2 mentions the consulate, but did you mean the letter from NVC? 1st line on my NOA2 says "The above petition has been approved. We have sent the original visa petition to the Department of State National Visa Center (NVC) . . . ."
The letter from NVC gave a case number then said the case will be processed at: Tokyo, Emabssy of the United States, Visa Unit.

That's the thing, it was the NOA and it said it had been forwarded to the Consulate listed, but not only was there no mention of the London Consulate, but it didn't mention the NVC either.

I'm going to ask Bill to call the NVC to see if they've recieved our case.

Just to let you know, you can call from england too if you want. You just need your original receipt number and both yours and your fiances date of birth.

Also, don't take what the NVC and US embassy say as fact. The reason i say this is because i called the NVC on the 30th dec and they said "we have sent it to the US embassy in London today (30th of december)". I then called the US embassy a few days later and they had no record of it. However, when i called today they said "yes we received it on the 30th of december". Which i would think is incredibly unlikely that it could have been sent from America to London in a matter of hours LOL.

Congrats to all the new approvals.

2 more September filers approved, i'm starting to know how the July people felt now lol.

This morning i checked my email and there was one from Visa Journey because i had a PM. But because i had just woken up and wasn't quite awake yet, i saw the word "Visa" and my heart skipped a few beats. I then realised it wasn't from the USCIS and calmed down headbonk.gif . But for a split second i knew what it felt like to be approved laughing.gif

Congratulations to people who got approved today.

We can't really be too annoyed with the CSC, the fact that there has been approvals in under 4 months is pretty miraculous. I know how frustrating this is though, trust me i do. I am hoping to be in America in time to see the birth of my daughter, and an approval before or just after christmas could make that very possible.

Stay strong guys, we're getting there slowly but surely.

p.s I demand anybody who owns the movie "Elf" with Will Ferrell, to watch it right now!!!(or soon tongue.gif). It made me very happy biggrin.gif

When you signed up on USCIS site for an account you provided an email address, and you entered your WAC/EAC number too. If you didn't sign up on USCIS then I recommend you go do that, it's how people see touches, and how people are finding about their approvals before receiving the hard copy. The email system at USCIS hasn't been that reliable from what I've seen, or people simply miss the email somehow or something, I don't know... but when you get emails from USCIS they are from CRIS. Sometimes people don't get the email and find out when they login and see their case status changed... that's not that reliable either... then it's down to the regular mail... and there have been times where that hasn't been that reliable either (more for NOA1's than NOA2's though) so the more ways you can check the better off you'll be. (Oops, guess a few others answered this question while I was posting).

I see another August CSC filer on igors now, so we're up to 4 CSC, 3 VSC. This latest approval is another mid-august approval... Good for me... but not so much for the early august filers...

Thank you! smile.gif

I am signed up to USCIS already, so i'm good to go biggrin.gif

I think i may be getting my hopes up a bit too much for a pre christmas approval.

so how do most people find out they have been approved?

I have heard about people being emailed, which email address is that? Would it be the one i have registered with the USCIS website? I can't remember if we gave an email address when we filled out the application.

Or do people just find out through the mail?

any info would be wonderful.

Wow, 3 august CSC approvals, and what's even more exciting is uh... two of them have the same sent date as me, and the same NOA1 date as I do!... man I hope my petition is sitting in that bucket too...

Our theory:

They approved us over a month too early because....

...our adjudicator decided to clean their desk for the holidays, to make room for cookies and such, and our file somehow ended up on the 'to do' pile. That must be how or why it happened.

WOW!

You got your NOA1 a day before me and you have been approved. That is VERY uplifting. kicking.gif

Keep 'em coming CSC.

Also very exciting to see we have moved up 7 places over night on the IGORS.

Yeah i know the feeling.

Also, we are panicking a lot about small things that we could have done wrong when filing our application. I think it's normal for it to feel like it is going slower because as it gets closer to happening it is on you mind more. I would liken it to when i was little and i would be so excited about christmas or my birthday, that the week or even day before it felt like a lifetime.

It shouldn't cause any problems.

We simply put "Unemployed" for my fiancee (USC) with the time frames. For myself, I put "Unemployed" with a footnote with my dates of school.

It really doesn't matter though what the reasons are/were for unemployment, just so long as you account for the years on the form.

oops.

yeah we didn't write any of that. we just wrote the jobs we had and nothing else. oh dear.

well hopefully it isnt a major issue.

i hope this is the only thing we got wrong. i keep coming across little things we did different and i start panicking.

such as the passport photo size thing, i read they have to be american size? well i had them done here in the UK, so im guessing they may be the wrong size sad.gif

Did you give the past five years of employment with dates?

That should be all that's needed.

Figners crossed for the UK sized photos... I think it explains the requirements for US size in the guides though.

i gave the 3 years i was employed with dates...i just didn't write anything for the year at school or the year unemployed sad.gif.

damn i definitely sent the wrong photos.....is it possible to get USA sized photos here in the UK?

if so do you think we should should try sending them now with an explanation of our mistake?

sorry for asking so many questions. i really appreciate your help. smile.gif

Get the right photos for the interview but don't worry about the USCIS end. They aren't really picky on the photos submitted with the petition because they are only for reference. At the Consulate stage, they are actually part of the visa itself.

The best thing is exactly what's been mentioned already. And while you may not be able to attend the birth (and definitely do NOT give that as a reason for visiting the US if you do come), I can tell you from experience it's not the birth so much as everything after that matters. My fiance and I waited until well after our daughter was born to start the process and we both regret it because he's essentially missing out on her first year of life. Get the process started now so you can be there for your baby after they're born. That's what's important.

Thank you very much michelle!

Yes i agree with you. It is the time after the birth that is important.

I hope things are quick for you, he will be there before you know it smile.gif

Hi visa journey users.

First i would like to say how wonderful i think this site is, i think it's so great to have somewhere to find information about a subject that can be very confusing.
Me and my fiance have both said we will continue to come to sites like this once i am there and settled, so we can try our best to help couples in this situation.

Okay well the usual story. We met online about a year and a half ago, since i have visited her in Seattle, Washington 3 times (for a total of 6 months) and she has visited me here in England twice (for a total of 8 weeks).

When she was here the last time (about a month ago) we found out she was pregnant. The blessing came a little sooner than we had planned but we were over joyed none the less. Seeing as she became pregnant we realized it was time to get things rolling immigration wise. I had proposed whilst in Seattle a few weeks before she came to england for the second time so the fact of getting married was never an issue for us.

So she sent off all the required applications and documents for the K-1 visa about 2 weeks ago. (today being september 3rd 2008). to the california service centre.

So this is why i am posting. We are slowly coming to terms with the fact that there is a good chance i am going to miss the birth of our child (due date march 9th 2009), i was just wondering if anybody has any advice.

can anything be done to speed up the process slightly so i don't have to miss it?

is there ever cases of people moving from England to the USA that have not taken the usual 6 to 8 months?

once there what do i need to do to get a american driving license?

Maybe if you have read our story you have some advice on what we should do now?

any help would be much appreciated. Or maybe just some encouraging words because that is always helpful at times like this.

Thank you for your time reading all this.

Congratulations.

The best way to speed up your process is to get all your documents ready. I downloaded packet 3 and we had everything ready when the consulate received the case and made our interview appointment that very same day. Had we been able to make the first interview date offered we would have had our visa in hand in under four months! As it was, it took about 5 months. But the CSC is slower as a rule and I do not know about the London consulate. Kiev is fairly fast. But this is the best you can do. You will not qualify for expedited service and an attorney will only slow the process, the attorney must do your case along with many others. You can have everything ready yourself.

UK citizens are, of course, free to travel to the USA, but I have heard of some having trouble once they are filing for a K-1. Better check this with other members. Your British driver's license is acceptable for a while. Most states require you get a license from that state within some amount of time, usually 30 or 60 days. Requirements vary. My state, Vermont, will issue my fiancee a license with her K-1 visa and passport. As long as she can show she is here legally, there is no problem. (remember...on the right, we drive on the right! Look LEFT when crossing the street) smile.gif You may have to take a driving test. Most states will accept a valid license from another state and just issue a new license, but I do not know about a foreign license. If you can bring a driving record with you, it would be good. I think you can get this from your insurance company. All the states now can check driving records in other states, but I doubt they can from the UK.

My advice? Check everything 2-3 times before you send it in. Keep checking until you don't find anything missing or wrong. Sort of like adding a bunch of numbers, when you get the same result twice you got it right. Then get all your documents ready (at least you won't have to deal with translation...well maybe whistling.gif ) LOL We ARE one people separated by a common language!

Good luck.

Thank you very much Gary (i assume this is gary as you referred to your fiance as "her". sorry if i am mistaken though smile.gif )

i wasn't aware that the packet 3 could be downloaded before the consulate sends it, but i will definitely try and find it.

That sounds like very good advice to get everything that i will need to take ready to go before i hear anything from them. Although i have read that you should wait until around the interview time to get police records etc.

thank again.

Thanks, i'm already starting to feel a little better, jut to know they will still start processing it without the letters is a weight off my mind, its taken so long just to get to this point!!

Yeah they will most likely send a RFE. From what i have read on other threads etc. it shouldn't slow down the process too much.

I have also read on other sites/threads, and as somebody above me correctly pointed out - you shouldn't send anything to them without them asking for it.

I wouldn't worry yourself too much, as it is very common to accidently leave something out.

Hope it goes well for you!
