Go PACKERS!

Or something
Thats what they all keep shouting at the TV

Green Bay for me ... although I've made him promise 3 years max!
Til he gets his RN thingy
Then we're going somewhere thats not Green Bay

Where in Wisconsin are you? How you liking it? Where were you from in NI?

We met in DC and I've spent 5 summers there
I have a ridiculously idyllic image of it
Long sweaty summers
Good beer
Great resteraunts
Decentish public transport

But I've heard the J1 bubble bursts pretty quickly once the snow starts to fall!

Mmmm... not sure if I'll be able to deal with them...

They only open the immigration area about 90 mins before the flight.
I guess I queued for about 20 mins? Although there was only one US flight leaving at that time.
I think you'd be really safe with 90 mins transfer and fairly safe with 60 mins transfer.

Just to let you know there was a sign at the airport to say that three destinations would be going through immigration at their destination rather than in Dublin. I know 2 were Washington DC and Florida, but I can't remember what the third was, but I want to say LAX. It definitely wasn't Chicago or New York. Dunno if that happens all the time, or was just a temporary thing... Just to let you know.

Just wanted to add my two centime to Jeraly's post about the same ...

I'm from Dublin, so at least didn' have to deal with learning a new airport.
Joined the queue for immigration super early envisioning at least an hour being interviewed.
When I got to the top it went something like this.

Where's your husband?
Double take... This was the first thing he said!... um he's my fiance and he's in the states
When's the wedding? Well we're hoping August but it depends on when we get the visa
Oh, he's american? Yup
How do your parents feel about that? Ok, they like him, and are excited about the shopping in the US
You'll be living in Ireland soon though? Maybe but only if something happens to those property prices
How long are you going for? 1 week
How long were you there last time? 3 weeks
What do you do? I'm a hospital administrator
Will the survive without you? I'm sure they'll manage
Ok have a good trip.

We weren't going to risk it.
I'm so so so glad we did.
I did have a folder full of 'proof' that I was coming home
And had been close to having a pint to calm my nerves before hand
But I was lucky and I got in!

Good luck y'all

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Irish Police Reports
Ok, so I finally got my Irish police report after quite the farce.
So I thought I'd let people know how I managed after 6 visits to the Garda Station!

1st - The instructions on the website, www.garda.ie are wrong, or at the very best incomplete.
2nd - These only work if you're in Ireland and are Irish

First you need to go to your local Garda Station in person. As far as the Garda could tell me, it's the local station for the area that you're living in at the moment.

You need to know the following things (I had a letter with all this stuff cos I was following the websites stuff
1. Name
2. DOB
3. Current Address
4. Length of Time living at that address
5. Country of birth
6. All previous Irish Addresses and lenght of time there
7. Purpose for applying for a Certificate - (I wrote "non-immigrant US visa")

At the station you'll be asked to fill in a form with all these details. If they don't know what you're talking about when you ask, keep trying. No one at the station I went to knew anything, except a senior officer that came out after 15 minutes. Don't let them tell you that you have to write to the Headquarters.

When you fill in the form you have to sign and date it (supposedly the date is very important?)

The Garda will then photocopy the following things.
1. Passport
2. LONG FORM birth cert
3. Any other documents which may support your application (ie. Request document from Embassy or Foreign Authority)

You need to bring these in for the Garda to photocopy, you can't photocopy them yourself, cos they have to verify the originals.
I accidentally on purpose forgot to include number 3 because I was applying before I'd received my packet 3 and I got it!

I included a Stamped Addressed Envelope as per the web instructions and it came back to me in that, but the form didn't mention anything about it.

There's no charge and it takes (in theory) 4 weeks. It took me 10 weeks from the first visit and 8 weeks from the final visit to the station. This might have been cos it was over Christmas though.

Anyhoo, hope that helps!

Good Luck!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionJapanese Police Report - Dublin
Has anyone requested a police report from the Japanese Embassy in Dublin.
I called for information and they said they needed a letter stating the reason for the report.
Is this the same as the one for the Gardai? Just a letter from you stating the reason.
Or do they require the one from Packet 3?

Just it takes 2 months so would like to get it moving sooner rather than later.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPolice Reports Headache Part 3!
Ok, because the Irish police report and the Japanese police report weren't enough of a headache ....

Looking through posts, there does seem to be a difference in opinion about whether you need to obtain a police report for all countries lived in from the age of 16 if you've lived there for 12 months or 6 months.

I know some of this is because possibly it's different for different applications and possibly for different consulates.
So here's my questions.

1. Does anyone know which is required from Dublin Ireland?
2. If I need to get a police report from India, where I lived for 8 months, I presume I just go to the Indian Embassy (who don't take any for of phone calls!), and get a police clearance certificate? From the interestingly phrased website, I think I can get it on the same day?

Thanks once again for your help! With all this police certificating, I actually wish I'd done something to warrant it!

X-posted a few places!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPolice Reports - Please let this be the last question!
Ok so I've asked this 3 or 4 times already but I still can't get a straight answer, and I know I should just call the embassy but I thought I'd try one more time here to see if anyone has been in the same sitution

*quote from packet 3 from Dublin for k1 visa*
a)Each Applicant aged 16 years or over is required to submit a police certificate from the police authorities of each locality of the country of the applicant's nationality or current residence where the applicant has resided for at least six months since attaining the age of 16.

b)Police certificates are also required from all other countries where the applicant has resided for at least one year.
*end quote*

Ok so I've lived in Ireland most of my life from birth to now. It is my current residence. So I have an Irish Police report as per a).
I lived in Japan for 18 months so I have to get a japanese police report as per b ).

I lived in India for 7 months when I was 22. Heres my question. Do I need an Indian police report?

My confusion comes from this sentence -

*Each Applicant aged 16 years or over is required to submit a police certificate from the police authorities of each locality of the 1. country of the applicant's nationality or 2. current residence where the applicant has resided for at least six months since attaining the age of 16.*

India is neither my country of nationality (1) nor my current residence(2). So a) is not applicable.
So does that mean that I would only need to get an Indian police report if I'd resided for at least one year, as per b ) above?

Ugh my head hurts ... anyone help?

Thanks!

I like the reprinting of the first page idea.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Dates
So my interview is next week
My fiance visited last week
He brought all his I-134 information
- I-134 notarised
- recent paychecks
- bank statements
- letter from bank
- letter from work
These were all dated within the same week

However, he filled my age incorrectly on the I-134.

1. Assuming nothing has changed with his finances, can he just get a new I-134 notarised and can we submit this with the original proof?

2. If however, in the interim between the first affidavit and the second, there was a huge change (or due to be a huge change) in his finances, should we start from scratch?

(We're signing on a house this friday, following which his $50,000 savings have morphed into a $60,000 mortgage. His salary alone takes us over the poverty line.)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHealth and Financial Issues with K-1
Don't know about the second question.

For the first one regarding your Fiances finances. At the interview, they aren't interested in the Beneficiary's finances, just the Petitioner's. You as the USC need to prove that you can fully support him and your existing family. You have to show that you are 125% above the poverty line for your household. You need to do this with a letter from your employer, a letter from your bank etc. as outlined in the affidavit of support.

Hope that helps! You're nearly there!

Here in Ireland I had the same problem
The embassy would not issue me a letter of request before I received my packet 3
Once I received my packet 3 I brought that to the Japanese embassy and they then fingerprinted me.
I received my police report 2 months later (i was lucky, usually takes 3) so had to schedule my interview to after that.

The embassy should accept the packet 3 as proof of request.
The other option is to get your fiance (USC) to call the US embassy in your country and ask them to issue a letter of request.
You might get lucky!

Let me know if you have any other questions about it.

Sorry to beat a dead horse on this one, but I was told lots of different things when I was applying so want to back up what I said.

From this site ...

IF the applicant is living in their country of nationality at their current residence for more than 6 months
AND is 16 years old or older
THEN the applicant needs a police certificate from the police authorities of that locality.

IF the applicant lived in a different country for more than 12 months
AND was 16 years or older at that time
THEN the applicant needs a police certificate from the police authorities of that locality.

Police Certification/Clearance is required for places the beneficiary has lived (since the age of 16) for 6-months or more. I can't peak to any kind of fingerprint requirements (wasn't aware this is required for police clearance). good.gif

A police report is required for places the beneficiary has lived for 1 year or more.

The language is a little confusing but I know it is definitely 1 year or more. I did not supply a police report for my 8 month abroad, asked the consulate about it and was told I did not need one. I did need one for my year and a half in Japan.

ETA: I'm looking for the exact wording now.

I was really surprised when you said a May interview! Glad it's much sooner. They're pretty quick, once you get your packet 3. I don't know if they've changed the instructions, but when I went, they didn't list a DS 156K, but brought it because it's mentioned on Visa Journey, and they did ask for it at the embassy.

I looked at the K-1 "Example Forms" section....but it lists some forms I never heard of. My fiance is in the Philippines. I know she needs to fill out the DS-156, DS-156K, DS-157....am I missing anything?

Personally, I think all forms should be completed by the UCS, only my opinion. This is not a good "group effort" project. My wife never completed even a single form in this entire process. I did all of them and told her where to sign. She was glad not to have to worry about it. If it were me and I wasn't going to the interview, I would complete all the forms, put little sticky arrows where she needs to sign and send the whole package all at once including all translations. As it was, I went to the interview, so I brought all documents and she signed them the night before. I think lots of mistakes get made when you expect two or three people to each do portions of the process and then have it all come together half a world away. Sorry, not for me. Not saying it can't be done, I am sure it can, I only say it increases the odds for a mistake exponentially.

Or in that respect, the Beneficiary (if comfortable in English) can do all the paperwork and just tell the USC where to sign.

BE THERE at the interview, even if you are on your deathbed.

While this is really good advice for some embassy's, it's not as necessary for others.
For example, I've never heard of an Irish applicant being asked to have their FI there.

As the OP plans on going anyway, it's not as big an issue in this case, but other people with interviews coming up, should check their local boards to see if request for the USC to attend are common.

I read somewhere that they should know us from before our marriage to current date.

We have a wonderful couple (husband has high Gov Security Clearance) that met my husband 2 weeks after our wedding and me about 5 months later. Are they appropriate?

Similarly I have another individual who knew my husband for a number of years, knew he was getting married, ended up hiring me but didn' meet me until 6 months after our wedding (although he knew of me well before the wedding)

Any idea? (I know affidavits are weak evidence, but we will include them and want to include some that meet criteria)

Biometrics done.

Don't forget to bring your Green Card to the appointment. Even though it says "Permanent Resident Card OR Photo ID (Drivers license, Passport etc)", they reminded me that I'm supposed to carry it with me at all times and they're supposed to refuse to do biometrics without it. Luckily, they just gave me a lecture.
