CanadaFiance's review of Dr Viljoen in Calgary
Hi all,

I just had my medical in Calgary with Dr. Viljoen last week, and wanted to add a couple of things to this forum. First of all, I probably called the wrong number about four times. The 'medical' number is 242-0504. This number has just changed, and is not posted on the website. So everytime I called, I was told to call the 'other' number to get the medical receptionist.

Secondly, make sure you bring cash! As it says, no credit cards are accepted. I asked about writing a cheque, but I was told cash only.

As a native Calgarian, I had no problem finding either location for blood work and chest x-ray. However, I agree that the map was not all that clear. If you are from out of town, and want specific directions, please feel free to ask and I'd be happy to send you some! Between the three stops I had to make (medical, bloodwork, and x-ray) there was a fair amount of waiting. Bring a good book and expect that it could take you nearly half a day (my medical was for 9:30am, and I didn't get home from it all until 12:00)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMissing case at VSC
First of all, let me say I feel your pain. crying.gif

We sent in our first K1 application last May (2006), and waited until nearly November before discovering that they had lost our application. Despite the fact that we have the receipt that it was received. My fiance finally got on the phone, and was able to speak to someone to confirm that it had been lost, and advised us as to our next course of action. So, with a special 'letter of permission' that said we could have two applications in process at once (just in case they found the first one), we resubmitted our entire application in December, have now dealt with and returned two RFE's, and are currently hoping for the NOA2 any day.

For what it's worth, with the second application we got a phone call that everything had been received and checked in, and then they lost my fiance's birth certificate. So he had to go and get a THIRD COPY of his birth certificate and send that up to VSC, as they said they could not process the case without that one critical document.

I would call sooner rather than later and see if you can get someone who can help you track things down - if only to know where you stand and what your next course of action needs to be.

Bureaucracy is a very frustrating thing

I filed the I-130 package on October 26th, 2007. It was received by VSC on October 29th. It has been almost 6 months, it is now 4-14-08 and no NOA1 received as of yet. No communicastions received period!

I called them several times but I am always told that my case is not in the system and that the EAC number that I have is valid but it doesn't bring anything up. How can this be? They cashed the check assigened a case number but are unable to find it? Frustrating.

I opened a case with USCIS on 2-27-2008 about a missing NOA1. Received an email on 4-10-2008 that stated: "Based upon the information you provided, the Vermont Service Center is not able to locate a record of your filing at this office." Fortunately I do have a copy of cashed check with a case number. I will be sending a copy of that to VSC on 4-14-08. I also decided to switch my process from K3 to IR-1/CR-1.

Could they really lose my case eventhough the check was cashed? Anyone had a simmilar experience?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresfive months and STILL the cheque isn't cashed
Thanks everyone, for your advice and support.

It's been an interesting week. My fiance did make some calls, and it turns out, our application was very likely lost. Of course, they don't actually say "lost", they tell him that they have been "experiencing some glitches" with the transfer of the system. Apparently they're now working with an outside service provider to help reduce the backlog, and as we know, have 'streamlined' the service centres that are now dealing with the K-1 visa. Since we sent our application to the Texas centre back in May, and now our area is the Vermont centre, I'm thinking that our application might be somewhere around Nebraska? no0pb.gif

Anyhow, the supervisor that he spoke to will be sending him a letter acknowledging this 'glitch', and for the system to indicate that it's ok if we have two applications in process at once - just in case they find the old application. No word yet on whether she can expedite the process now that we've been waiting six months (on their error). Nor anything on whether we will be grandfathered in under the old fee, or if we'll have to pay the difference, or just cancel the old cheque and pay the new fee.

Once again, lots of hurry up and wait! Oh well, at least contact has been made.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresfive months and STILL the cheque isn't cashed
Hi,

I'm brand new to this forum, but wanted to see if anybody has any feedback (and happy thoughts!) on my situation. I'm from Canada, and my fiance is American. We sent in our application May 7, and STILL the cheque has not been cashed and we have no case number. Much less anything else. My fiance did get notification (from US Postal Service) that the package was received. This is becoming more and more worrisome to me - anyone have any words of wisdom?

thanks in advance,

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDrat...Foiled Again!... sort of
Just a quick update - when last I posted in November there had been NO action on our petition at all. And we had sent it in May (of 2007). Thank you to all those who provided great advice and support - as it turns out, the Texas centre LOST our application. Plus, since then the Texas centre was no longer dealing with K-1 visas, and the fees went up. sad.gif And, of course, the person my fiance spoke to could not to anything to expedite the process, nor grandfather us in under the old fee. Gotta love bureaucracy!

Since that time, we've resubmitted our application - it was received Dec 20, Merry Christmas to us! My fiance got a phone call today that while they have received the application (and apparently opened it!), they've lost his birth certificate. wacko.gif AGAIN. Despite the fact that it was 'checked in' when they checked the package. This is now the second birth certificate lost by visa centres, since, as you'll remember, the entire first application was lost.

I can't help but giggle at the insanity of it all... with any luck, we'll have the cheque cashed and a case number next week sometime.

So take heart to all of those who are frustrated (like me) - it's been nine months since our original submission, and we're STILL at the beginning stages of this whole thing. To paraphrase a great band I saw a couple of years ago, "you have to laugh at it all, because you'd cry your eyes out if you didn't". I raise my (mostly imaginary) glass to all waiting for visa processing from the US gov't. Cheers!

CanadaEmail sent to MTL today re: interview date
Yes, asked whether the documentation regarding my legal status is Canada was sufficient. I haven't even received Packet 3, and it has been two months since the I-130 was approved.

Got the same message. Looks like they just have an autoresponder now. It's appalling, esp. if one has a legitimate question.

Do you mean you asked them a question other than - when do I get an interview - and you got the canned answer??

I sent an email to the Consulate in Montreal today and received a generic email back. My last email to them re: interview date was on Oct. 1/07. In your opinion, will I get an interview date before the beginning of December? it's hard to plan anything - i'm selling my condo and want to choose a closing date. wacko.gif

Good Morning Montreal Consulate,

Would you be able to provide an update as to when I might receive the notice of my interview date? Any information would be helpful.

Thank you for your time.
