PhilippinesShame on U.s. embassy in manila
I dont think CFO is conducted to scare us. Just like everyone else is saying, it gives us information what to do, where to go, in case of abuse, where to go in case you ran away from an abusive partner and you need a roof on your head, they give you infos about the filipino communities who can give help, they talked about - Welfare and support services available abroad;Rights of migrants overseas; and Coping up with problematic or difficult domestic situations.

Welll, the lady said, that america is not all nice food, and cars and beautiful houses, (we already have that paradise picture of america in our minds) sometimes things can turn out bad and they gave us info what to do. Not only spouses and fiances have to undergo the seminar - there's a PDOS or Pre departure orientation seminar for overseas workers.

As to the fees, i remember the lady giving us the seminar that CFO is conducted by an NGO and maybe the seminar fee is their source of funds. I am not sure though. And for the 400p sticker, I dont understand that - now that one is given by a government agency the CFO - and i dont know why it cost so much.

Philippinesexcess baggage..
I boarded Japan Airlines - connecting flight American Airlines. I have only 1 luggage weighing 30 pounds! and the person in NAIA told me i have excess baggage. He told me to transfer some stuff into another bag because AA only allows 23 lbs x 2 luggages. So i transfered some stuff in my carry on luggage and checked it in. 2 bags 23 lbs each. (that was last April 2008. I guess AA has new luggage policy)
Visit your airline website for more info.

ROLL YOUR CLOTHES TIGHTLY AND YOU WILL HAVE MORE SPACE IN YOUR LUGGAGE.

Happy trip!

Hey everybody! I paid my bill online last week and they do have it in the system. I was wondering how long does it take for NVC to mail I-864 forms. I do have all the print outs and the documents that need to be send but I dont want to take a risk sending them in and having RFE's. I am just a bit nervous about this and what to do it right. Also, do we all have to fill in the Authoruzation for release of federal tax data? Hardly anybody mentioned this form. I am actually very confused with this because it says spouses signuture so does that mean it needs to be send to him so he can sign it? I will be needing a joint sponsor which i already have.
thanks all!

Are you waiting for the NVC to mail to you I-864 forms? In my case, we just download the said form from USCIS (you can find it too here in VJ).
About the tax transcript, my husband just called (800) 829-1040 visit the IRS website http://www.irs.gov/f...qs/faq1-6.html"" ordered his tax transcript and we received them after 3 days.

Good luck!

PhilippinesDo you have plans on raising bilingual children?
the pediatrician of my filipina friend said she can teach her baby to speak 7 languages - it wont cause confusion on the child as long as she translate it like "are you hungry? gutom ka na ba?" she said there will be no problem with the child's development even if u teach her/him many languages because the child's brain is like a sponge - it absorbs information quickly . I'm teaching hubby bisaya, tagalog and ilonggo and hopefully we will be able to converse in full pinoy language with our kids someday.

PhilippinesLooking for a book that in Tagalog
look for "panitikan" books or philippine literature books.

THere's a book about "pagong at kuneho" - turtle and the rabbit, pagong at ang matsing - turtle and the monkey.

If you want , you can get books of about Jose Rizal or books written by him translated in tagalog. here is one example

BUHAY at GInawa ni Dr. Jose Rizal

I am confident that a filipina wife when in front of her filipina friends and speaking the native tongue and with her husband around..she will always try her very best to explain it to her husband the best she can coz yeah, we too are mindful. Personally, I am sensitive enough to make my husband feel comfortable around with my filipina friend by not translating but including him in the flow.

Thanks!

Good luck to him in learning Tagalog. We husbands try (I tried too), but it isn't easy without immersing one's self into a place where only that language is spoken.
- that's why we practice talking in tagalog at home and even with friends. Each individual's learning skills are different from each other and you will succeed my friend if you persevere.

Mark my words, husbands don't mind being left out of conversations at first, but in time, they will zone out, talking in Tagalog while they are close by will alienate them. I'm speaking from experience. I know how I felt. I respect how you felt and I am sorry if you felt that way.

Trust me, you will preserve your relationship far more by speaking in your spouse's language if he is anywhere remotely near you.
as if each time i speak something in my language each time he is near, it's pushing him away?

We husbands do understand the hardship, we are mindful so please be mindful of us by speaking in a language we understand when we are close by, because when we hear and understand what is being said, we can easily and immediately join in the conversation and laughter. This is understandable..but sometimes pinays need their own moment to talk in our language. We dont have YM of each other so we find Philippine forum beneficial.

PS: There will come a time when you and your spouse will argue and your spouse/fiancee resort to talk in her dialect (it's really hard to be mad or angry in english) - be prepared to feel really alienated. Before when I was really upset I rant in my language and my husband knew I was really upset. sometimes it is so difficult not to be able to express yourself in English that's why some pinays get into tampo mode (more alienation moments).

I think there are just some people who don't understand the value of respecting others opinions and thoughts. I keep on telling my husband that I missed home. Doesn't mean I wasn't ready for the life I am about to embrace in being with him. He used to tease me... "you sounds like your whining baby" and I just answer him.. "so what"? If that's how you call it then fine. He is really trying hard to learn my language and I am the one with no patient in teaching him. He doesn't felt left behind if I am with my Filipina friends and talking our own language ( he likes the sounds ) and just chose to smile even he doesn't understand anything. I am blessed to have him. I should say, he really has a wide range of understanding. Am I whining? SO WHAT? Gihigugma ko ikaw babe! Gimingaw ko sa akong yutang natawhan! Period!

Vida Taylor

My husband doesnt mind too if i speak bisaya or tagalog when im with my friends even he is around. He is trying to learn 3 dialects (tagalog, bisaya ilonggo). Even we are here in the USA.....we are still pinay at talagang mamiss at mami-miss natin ang pinas especially kung malapit tayo sa ating pamilya.

And to my fellow Filipinas, if you feel like talking in Tagalog in the Philippine forum, then do so. Sometimes people just don't understand how we miss the language. After all, this is America, and FREEDOM OF SPEECH is very highly regarded.
