Asia: East and PacificWhere are the Cambodians?
Happily married to a wonderful Cambodian. We have been through the process and are waiting to apply for 10 year card in November.

Cambodians have been mixed in with the Thai on Sawadee thread because until Feb we have had to go to Bangkok to get our visas.
I haven't heard from anyone who has gone through Phnom Penh yet. I would be nice to find out if it working out.

Asia: East and PacificHow long time for Vaccinations in BKK?
if your fiancee has had her vaccinations and has a record she should take them with her to the medical. My wife got her vaccinations at the same time as her medical. Some require a booster shot one month later so getting it done sooner would be better. that way she can get her booster before she comes. she will need all her shots done before AOS. Be sure to have her get a copy of the I-693 from the doctor she will need it for AOS.

Get everything together that you need to send and send it Fedex. It will cost you around $52 for 1 pound. Put it all in order so your fiance will not have to do it. Fedex took me around five days to get it to my fiance but it is better than the post.
Good luck.

Navy. what part of Ca are you from. We are in Crescent City. Just wondering. My wife is the only Cambodian in our town.
Did you track your case via DHL? to see when it got to the embassy. If you know the date it was sent you can find out what day it arrived there. Once you find that out you can figure how long for them to enter it in their system then send your checklist. I don't know for sure about Phnom Penh but this is what we did in Bangkok.
I know if you wait for the packet 3 to come then send it from the states it will take forever.

I took gifts for the family and few clothes for me (you can buy then there) that way I had empty suitcases to put my wife things in for the return. Surprising how much you can stuff in four suitcases. She had everything she owned and we still had room. Buy her suitcases there.
Is anyone willing to bring me back a Canatech Khmer to English electronic dictionary. I will pay all costs.

Cambodian K-1 Packet 3's always go to the petitioner. Don't ask me why. That is why you download them and have the applicant fill them out or you fill them out ahead of time and send them to her. It is much faster then wait until it finally gets here via snail mail. Once I found out the embassy (BKK) had her petition We waited 3 days then sent in the checklist and the other things they asked for. We had our interview date before I received packet 3.

Hello everyone;
My wife wants to buy a Canatech Khmer/English electronic dictionary. We are having trouble finding one here. We tried to buy one while we were in Phnom Penh in December, but everyone was out of stock. (seems to be very popular). Does anyone know if we can get one here.
Also I was wondering if anyone was going to Phnom Penh and could bring one back for us. Her aunt could buy it. We would have it shipped but the cost is high and not guaranteed that it would get here.
Any ideas that you might have would help.

Thanks
Sam

Hello everyone:
I am married to a cambodian woman. We live in Northern Calif. We interviewed in Bangkok Oct of 05. K1 was very smooth and only took 5 months. We will apply for her 10 year card in November. We traveled to Cambodia in November and spent a month there visiting family. (cooler in Nov.) My wife lived in Phnom Penh when I met her but is originally from Samrong Village, Mukda Commune, Sray Rieng Province.

Did you track your application from NVC to Phnom Penh to make sure they received it. If they have received it then you might send in your checklist. I sent in my checklist 4 days after they received my case. It saved a lot of time. It will take at least three weeks for the packet 3 to get to you by snail mail. Be sure to have all your forms filled out and ready to take with you to the interview

USPS finally found the package and are forwarding to Laguna Niguel. Where it was I don't know, but I raised hell with them for three days until they found it. Now to wait for the check to be cashed.

US Citizenship General DiscussionUSPS Track & Confirm
I emailed the USPS and actually got a reply. It tells me that the USPS does not track certified mail. So I emailed back and asked if they do not why do they give you a tracking number and tell you that you can track it on their website?
They also said they have no record of my letter and can do nothing for me until they do. I have the tracking number which means nothing to them because no one bothered to enter it into the system. I don't know what to do, resend the N-400 which means copying around 30 pages again, canceling the check, getting two more photos ($16). I am going to wait one more day. I keep checking my bank account to see if they have cashed the check. I hate to send another and they end up with two applications.

Oh what to do?

I mailed it priority Mail with a tracking number. I did not ask for a signature. You would think that after 8 days they could have it tracked for me. The check will be cashed before I get confirmation of delivery.

US Citizenship General DiscussionUSPS Track & Confirm
I just want to vent a little. I sent my wife's N-400 Application off Dec. 1st via USPS certified mail. It only has to go from Northern Ca. to Laguna niguel, Ca. So far it is not in the USPS system (Dec 8th). I called and after listening to recordings for 20 minutes I finally got a real person. Gave her the tracking number and and she has no idea where my mail is. She says every person who touches the package is supposed to scan it, so I figured at least 4 people have screwed up so far. She says there is no problem just wait a few more days and if it doesn't track try to get back to them. What a cluster the postal service is. headbonk.gif Oh how I wish I would have sent it Fedex. mad.gif

US Citizenship General Discussioncheck cashing
I don't know how long it takes but I am getting tired of checking my bank account to see if the check is cashed. Its been 12 days now since I mailed off our package and nothing to report that is good.

Check the October and November applications to see the average time from mailing to cashed check. It will give you an idea how long it takes.

Knowing the USCIS they will be lost in never never land for months. This could add weeks to our applications. This could explain why the post office can not find our packages. Time to sit back and chill. It will happen sooner or later.

US Citizenship General DiscussionCitizenship oath
Just a question concerning the interview and the oath in San Francisco. We live an 8 hour drive from SF (about as far as you can get and still be in Ca.) and I am wondering if anyone has had the interview and the oath on the same day in SF. I know others do it but have not heard about it happening in SF. I hate the thought of two 16 hour trips to SF, the second just to take the oath. Between hotel, food and gas about $400 per trip.

My wife has her interview Friday March 20th in SF. Just wondering if they have oath ceremony the same day. I heard they have some of the oath ceremonies in Oakland.
We are traveling 400 miles to get there and have to spend the night. Just don't want to make that trip twice. We lose two days work and it costs us around $300 to make the trip.

Thanks for any help you can give us.

Just got home from Oakland. 951 new citizens from 94 countries today. It was easy we parked right across the street from the Paramount Theater and waited until they opened the doors. It was raining so we stayed dry. It stormed all the way to Oakland. Wind was blowing 50 mph so the ride was fun. Mariya is already calling her family in Cambodia.

good luck and a speedy finish to those who are still waiting.

God Bless

We got a room at the Hampton Inn right on San Francisco Bay in Oakland for the 4th of May. Too long of drive for just one day (400 miles). Mariya works for Hampton Inns so we got the room for $31. Our ceremony is at 9:15 on the fifth of May in the Paramount Theater.

Congrats to everyone on their oath dates. Just think we will be all done with USCIS. What will we do to fill the void. PARTY?

Do you know a good place to park and maybe ride bart to the Paramount. We are coming in from the north. We will have to get a motel and stay the night before the ceremony. My wife works for Hampton Inns and we are trying to get her boss to get us a room at the Hampton by the Oakland airport. He can get it for $29 with employee discount.

Maybe the letter will come today. Usually the letter seems to come on Saturday.

Mariya passed her interview today with no problem. We were in at 9:07 and out at 10:35 am Ours was about the same as rilian described, except for one thing the IO came out to the waiting room and asked me for my ID. She took it and made a copy then came out and said we passed. I have never heard of them taking the husbands ID to copy. Now the only thing left is another 8 hour trip to Oakland for the oath ceremony.

We are very happy and very tired. It was a long two days.
