I'm filling out the I-129F form and when it asks for family name, my fiance has 2 since he's Peruvian (fathers last name and then mothers last name) The guides said to state his full name on the cover letter and explain that I'll just be using his father's name (first last name) on the forms. How did everyone else do theirs? Is it a big deal? unsure.gif

Even though the mother's last name is used as a second last name in Latin America, it is of no use here in the US. So from now on he only needs to use his first last name, his father's, which is what you need to put on all his forms.

Thank you good.gif

Thank you so much for your reply. I will have to consider LAN...yeah LAX does sound kind of unpleasant, never been there but I've heard its nuts. The flight I'm looking at connects in Miami.

I hope you will see your wife soon sad.gif I know it's so hard being apart from our loved ones

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaBest airlines to fly to Peru
Hey everyone, I'm kinda new to this so I have a few questions, maybe someone can help..

I'm looking at flights from Chicago to Lima, just wondering if anyone has suggestions on which airline is best. I used Continental last time I traveled to visit my boyfriend and everything went great. I'd like to stick with the same airline, but I saw American Airlines and Delta are cheaper for the dates I want to travel. Has anyone here used these airlines before?

Also, I'm thinking of moving to Lima for a year so I'll probably buy a round-trip ticket but never use the return flight (I want to buy round-trip in case they give me any problems leaving the US or entering Peru) Any suggestions on how I can get some of my money back if I don't use the return flight? Are there airlines with good return policies?

Thanks star_smile.gif

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaCustoms in Peru
Hello,

I will be flying to Lima in 17 days to visit my fiance and stay with him while we wait during the K1 Visa process. I intend to live with him until he gets the visa, which could be quite a few months since I haven't sent the I-129F petition yet. I will do everything I need to in order to live in Peru legally, but I'm concerned about what will happen when I pass through customs at the airport. I bought a return ticket with a false date (Dec. 1) because I know sometimes they won't let you leave the US without one. I didn't have any trouble passing through customs the last time I visited him, but that was before we became engaged and started the visa process. Now I'm afraid they will think I'm going to stay there illegally with him since I don't really have any ties to the US (besides the fact that I'm going to pay $455 in order for us to get married and live in the US!!! Of course I don't want to screw this up!!)

Should I wait to send the I-129F until after I enter Peru? I could easily have my mom bring it to the post office once I'm there. That way I could just tell customs I'm visiting my friend and leaving on December 1st in order to enter the country with no problems. I just hope it won't cause any problems later in the interview if they ask why I sent the petition after I was in Peru blink.gif

I tried to find a contact for Continental about baggage, but it was automated and didn't answer my question, I guess maybe there's a customer service number but I couldn't find it yet lol.

Sorry I'm stressed and going into panic mode so I guess I can't read things correctly whistling.gif

What does it mean that Continental Airlines will not accept Excess Baggage to Lima, Peru? Does this mean I can only check- in one suitcase that is 50 pounds? I'm planning on going there for 6 months to a year and I don't know if 50 pounds is gonna do it for me unsure.gif

Here's the link where it says no excess baggage, has anyone had experience with this before? What is considered "excess"

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaHi, I'm from Peru
Hello

I was wondering if anyone here can help me with this...or let me know a better place to find information.

My Peruvian fiance and I (I'm a U.S. citizen) are planning to travel to Italy for my best friend's wedding. We have been living together in Lima for a little over a year. He has never been out of Peru, but his father and sister have traveled to Europe and Asia before. Do you think it's possible he will be approved for a tourist visa to Italy? What kind of documentation would he need to apply for one? Also, the flights I have been looking at have stops in Miami and London I believe...would he need a transit visa for that as well? Any insight would be appreciated.

Oh..we did apply for a fiance visa (to the U.S.) the petition was approved and we were called for an interview but we decided to end the process as we decided not to go to the states..don't know if that makes any difference in the situation.

Gracias :)

Yes, you may do this. I would suggest working legally, though...

Thank you for your reply! Just curious, have you personally done this?

I presume you would have to quit any job you have in the US in order to do this.

Without a job, do you have enough US assets to fulfill the requirements of sponsorship of your fiance's K1 visa?

Yes, I would quit my job in the US. I would not have enough to be the sole sponsor, however I do have a co-sponsor available.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWorking in another country while processing K1
Ok I know there's tons of questions about if you are able to visit your fiancee while waiting for the K1 to process, I know the answer is yes, but....

I am a US citizen, my fiancee is Peruvian. If I send the information needed to apply for the K1 can I leave the US and live and work in Peru immediately after? Even before I receive the NOA1? Can I stay in Peru until we go to the interview and just have my mom (in the US) send us the needed papers? I guess what I'm trying to say is I want to apply for the fiancee visa and be with him while we wait for it to be approved and come back to the US together, but I'm not sure if I will be allowed to have a work visa in another country while waiting for this.

A lot of the situations I read are about the fiancee coming to the US to visit, I haven't seen much on the other way around blink.gif

It needs to be a "certified copy" if you have a certified copy then copy it and send it. Also don't send any original "certified copy" of birth certificate, make a photocopy of it, and send it. Only send originals of items that are required.
Some people make mistake think they have to send the actual "certified copy" when they really only need to copy it and send. It cost me $50+ to get a certified copy from New York State, imagine if I sent it and they lost it and RFE me for another. rofl.gif

Hahah ok thanks for saving me $50 laughing.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWrinkle in the marriage law? Please explain.
As far as I know, Peru requires a civil ceremony, it is not legal to just have a religious ceremony. However, if you had a religious ceremony you would have to hide it and that might cause more problems than it's worth. Personally, I'd be nervous enough at the interview without having to hide something like that, wouldn't want to get nervous and say something about it on accident. blink.gif

Ok so my fiance usually wears glasses, but for some reason his passport photo and his peruivan ID card both have pictures of him without glasses. (I guess the wanted to avoid glare or something?) So he had his passport size photo needed for the K-1 taken one with glasses and one without. I'm thinking of sending both in, do you think it's a good idea or will I piss off the adjudicator unsure.gif

Does anyone know if I can use a co-sponsor who is already sponsoring someone else?

My mom is my step-dad's sponsor, but I was also looking at her to be the co-sponsor for my fiance. My step-dad has been here for 8 years now and he's currently employed, so I don't think it should be a problem but I was wondering if there's any issue.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMultiple Employers...Long Employment History
QUOTE (bluenoser77 @ Jul 30 2009, 06:54 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi there!

I'm also in a similar situation, I have a really long and scattered employment history with a few years of grad school in the mix. So does my fiance. I've skimmed through the posts in this thread and people have mentioned that they managed to fit in their whole employment history. But what if you can't actually fit it on the form for the last 5 years? Do we need another form, or do we attach an appendix. Does anyone know? I have the same problem with residences. I've lived in three countries in the last 5 years with a few months of travel here and there.

Thanks for any help.

PS: I'm Canadian applying to come in, so I don't think attaching tax records helps.

Yes, just make an attachment and label the top of it as "G-325:Employment Last 5 Years." I made mine into a chart to look like the one on the form but I think it would be fine to just list all the information. Make sure you write on the G-325 form to see the attachment and also list it on your cover page. You can do the same with residences. good.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresExtending time before K-1 interview
Thank you for all the replies!

As Susita said, our interview has already been scheduled at the Embassy in Lima in the letter we received. We are scheduled for the first week in February and I know that we won't be ready for it at that time. There are quite a few documents that we need to have ready for the interview that will take some time to get. We were not prepared because we did not expect the NOA2 to be approved so quickly, also we are living together so there is no rush to finish the process in order to see each other. Has anyone requested for the interview time to be postponed? I am starting to think we should start the process over when we feel more ready to leave, just feels awful to have spent all that time and money already.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresExtending time before K-1 interview
My fiance and I just received a notice that the petition for the K-1 visa has been approved. On the top it says valid from 12/21/2009 until 4/20/2010. I was wondering, is possible to have the interview after April 20th? My fiance and I are currently living together in his country and we want to stay here a little longer before moving to the U.S. If it is possible to extend the time before the interview, how do we do so and for how long can it be extended?

Thanks

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLeaving US after getting married with K-1
Thank you everyone for the replies.

Yes Jim and Peruvy are correct, it is very hard to get a tourist visa from Peru. We have already received the NOA2 for our K-1, the Lima embassy even set an interview date for us already, but some things didn't go as planned so I am trying to see all of our options.

I am hoping I can extend the time before our interview so we can decide what it is we really want to do before we go ahead spending more money on this! Thanks again for the advice.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLeaving US after getting married with K-1

Can you elaborate on your plans? (In other words, how long is 'a while?')

Somewhere around a year, not more than 2 years

Basically the issue is this, I would like my fiance to meet my family, and also have my family see us get married, but we are not ready to live in the US...and there's no way for my family to come to my fiance's country. Eventually, yes we would like to live in the US, but not right now...so maybe the best choice is to just reapply for K-1 visa when we are ready to move.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLeaving US after getting married with K-1
Ok I think I already know the answer to this but...

If my fiance comes to the US on a K-1 visa and we get married and then we go to his country before he becomes a resident, we would have to apply for CR-1 for him to go back to the US?

Basically it would be like going through the whole K-1 process and then the whole CR-1 process?

Is there anyway to get married in the US, but not live there until a awhile after marriage?

I know it seems like a silly question because the purpose of K-1 is to get married in the US and stay there but please advise

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNot Completing Fiance Visa Process
Ok, so about two years ago, we started the fiance visa process. I (US citizen) ended up moving to my fiance's country while the papers were being processed. Everything went fine and much to our surprise the process went a lot faster than expected. We got called for an interview, but felt that we weren't ready to go to the US yet. We filled out some papers at the US embassy and they said that our interview would be pushed back some months and they would contact us then. Well...they never did. And due to some other circumstances, we never went back to the embassy to find out what happened.

Can we still reapply? I realize most likely we will have to start from the beginning, but does letting our first application go have any affect on applying again? I'm scared they could think we are not serious about being together, but at least we have evidence of living together the last two years.

Also, my fiance and I would like to visit the states for the summer, but I'm not sure if the whole fiance visa thing will affect his ability to be approved for a tourist visa.

Any help would be appreciated. :)
