Oh yeah....do you guys know about Peter Zahlt? www.peterzahlt.de If you register (for free) you can talk (for free) for 30 minutes. It rings the German landline first and they have to listen to about 15 seconds of advertisements and then the call is put through. P and I used that all the time when he was still living and we still use it to call his parents.

Sounds pretty cool! Maybe I'll try that ones...
Isn't there anything annoying connected with that? Like tons of spam?

I agree, Skype is the best that could happen for people with international families. My Mom and my sister both use their webcam everytime we talk. I love it. Now I don't just see pictures of how my nephew gets older, but also I can hear him start talking, etc. It is fun and we love it.

I use it to call my grandma, too, on her home phone. It is so cheap....

That's what we do, too. We set up a savings account which will just be used for trips to see family. My dad lives in Thailand, my mom and sister in Germany....so there is a lot of money to save for.

And with the new technologies like Skype and Webcams you can at least see each other...

I am from Waiblingen, about 20km east of Stuttgart.

It might still take me a while till I will go back. As I just arrived and apply for AOS we are pretty tight on money and who know when I will start working, etc. Which is sad as my sister will have her second baby in August and I would like to see it. But at least my Mom will come in September to visit, eventhough she doesn't speak any English. But as my husband knows German it will be ok for her. How long will you stay?

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Married To A German :)
Hi everybody!

This thread is awesome!!!! I love it.

I am the German part (from a city close to Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg) of our marriage and my husband is American. I just went through all the posts and would like to add some stuff...

First of all I would like to say that nobody has to worry about his/her German. It is a really hard language to learn, especially compared to English, which is pretty easy. And not to forget that Germans have to start English in school when they are 10 (now even younger).
My husband speaks German and had spend all together about 1.5 years in Germany. He makes a lot of mistakes still and I try to correct him. It is just hard to answer the question "why do you say it like that?"...sometimes it is just what it is. smile.gif His dads parents were German but never spoke German to his Dad or himself. But he feels kind of related to Germany and loves it there.

We also recognized some cultural differences. There are not that much and most of them are really little differences. But e.g. it is pretty usual in Germany that girls have guys as "just friends". He didn't understand that at all at the beginning. And I recognized that, too, when I did my internship here in the States. I was asked by a friend of my roommate if I would like to meet him at the bar ones...I did...and after that he kept calling me...till my roommate told me that this was a date. Ooops. smile.gif And we recognizes the optimistic/pessimistic difference, too. But then on the other hand my husband has a pretty German habit which I don't have at all. He is all about saving money, while I just think about things we could spend it on. smile.gif And then there are some which are not even worth to mention.

We defenitely want to go and visit my family in Germany, too. And as my husband loves it there we might move there ones and spend some years there. Who knows. It was never the fact that we just wanted to be in the States, I just moved here, because this was the better way for the next few years. And then we will see.

And I want to talk German with my kids (which are still plans and not real), too. Even if we will live here. Maybe they want to spend some years in Germany when they are older. And there are ways to have your kids learn reading and writing, just have to find a school for that.

Can't wait to read some more interesting things.

PS: I got the "Abmeldebescheinigung", too. As the German embassy said on the website....without that paper they will still work on your new passport, etc. but they will charge more for that than with the "Abmeldebescheinigung".

Ok great review (Hallo von june87 ausm anderen Forum). Im already nervous but havent received Pack 3 yet.

I exactly know how you feel. I was so nervous about the medical and the interview. But then, when you actually did it, it's way more easier you have ever imagined.
And even you know that there is actually no reason for them not to issue the visa you always think they might find something.

You'll be fine and actually I think you'll recieve the pack 3 about end of next week or beginning first week of march.

Let me know how everything works and if you got any question.

Have a great sunday night

Thanks. I'm still working on finally realizing it. dancin5hr.gif

Yes, you really don't have to worry about it.

Well, it doesn't seem like you have any choice. You get an envelope already saying "Einschreiben". But I would just ask.
Actually they told me I will receive the visa next week. So I would have been able to leave already on the 1st of March. So you should be able to travel about 2 weeks before the wedding.
Ask the guy, but I don't think you can choose any other possibility. I would propse you ask the post office about prices for express delivery. Prepare an envelope (Another DIN A4 envelope has to fit in there) and everything you would need for express delivery and tell him you got everything for that with you. maybe that works. Because they already tell you at the embassy that they are able to print the visa sticker now (at least, when your medical report is already there). So I guess they print it maybe the same or next day and the rest is just delivery.

Give it try and let me know if that worked.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionTime between medical examination and immigration??
Hi Kiwie,

oh I thought you already did it.

Ok, I'm done with the interview and, oh my god, I am so happy. It was really easy and fast, nothing to worry about. Actually I could laugh about myself now that I was so nervous.
You know I did an interview 3 years ago for an internship and I thought this one now had to be way harder, but it is not. That's how it went with mine...

I arrived at the embassy at about 7.30am. After coming down again a little bit I stood in line to get my number. It was so freezing cold. I showed my invitation, passport and the payment confirmation and got my number. Then go through security check. In the embassy I had to wait for about 5 minutes and had to go to counter no. 23. There you give your passport, picture and payment confirmation to the girl. She gives you a sheet telling you how to organize your documents for the next step and you go back to take a seat. I was so nervous that I put my folder on the microphone and that girl got totally pissed "sorry". huh.gif
I organized my documents and was waiting for the next step (it seemed like hours but it wasn't). Then I had to go to counter no. 21. That guy said "so you want to go to the states to get married? Hm, we'll see what we can do for you". Me "I hope just the best" smile.gif. He: "Haha, I can't promise you that". So he made me really nervous again. But I gave my documents to him and he went through my information with me again if everything is correct. I had to put my address on an envelope and glue the stamps (4,25) there. Then he explains the next steps and what you got to do when you are finally in the States. Then go back and take a seat.
So I was waiting for the final step to do the interview with the consul. Actually I thought "now it is going to be the hardest time". But, she was really nice. She asked me if it is fine talking in English. (And I thought "I'll move to the States so it actually HAS to be fine!??") I had to give fingerprints of all my fingers. Then sign I-157 and DS-280 PartII. She asked me how my fiancé and I met, what he is doing in the states and what kind of job I would like to do there. After that she just said, that it seems like I'm allset and everything is in order and they will be able to print the visa now. I will receive it in about a week. And then I was already ready to go.
So I was leaving the embassy 1,5 hours later, smiling over the whole face and could not beleive it. smile.gif

I met my mom outside and we drove back home. I booked my flight for 6th of march and still try to realize it. It went too fast. It seemed like a dream and not reality.

So don't worry about your interview it's just another task you got to do. You'll be totally fine and I can't wait to read about your experience. smile.gif

Enjoy the time with your family.

Thanks. I am already feeling better.

I guess two days before the interview is enough. It shouldn't take longer than 2 days sending documents within Frankfurt (if so I guess I always had the wrong job and should join the Deutsche Post *g*).

Right, I felt the same as you do. He doesn't really give you any results, but if there would be anything he has to tell you I guess. Isn't that a duty of docs? He can not let you go without letting you know e.g. you're HIV positive that would be pretty irresponsible. So don't worry, you'll be totally fine.

Thanks for praying for my interview I will let you know again how everything was going. And then I'll cross my fingers for you too. smile.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionTime between medical examination and immigration??
Sorry it took me so long for my report about the medical. I am really sick and have to try to get better till tomorrow to get my HPV and it was my moms birthday (the last with me for maybe some years). smile.gif

Ok, but here is the report:

I left at home Friday morning at 4.45 am to catch my train. I arrived at the doctors office at about 7.25am. I took a cab from the main station to the doctors which was just 8 Euros.
The doctor opened exactly at 7.40am. You go in and get a number at the reception. I was number 2. Then you go upstairs and you get a questionnaire you have to fill out. Just questions about your medical history, if you smoke and what medicine you're taking. The second page will be filled out together with the secretary when you pay your fee (140 Euros exactly). Have your picture, vaccination report, passport and embassy case number ready. You have to put your name on the back of the picture and sign the agreement for the HIV-test.
Then you get you passport, a CD and the HIV-test agreement and with that you go down to the basement. X-rays will be taken as well as blood and you got to pee in a cup...
After a few minutes you get your stuff back and go upstairs again and tell the secretary you're back. Then you got to wait for the doctor. He is checking you lungs again, asks you some questions about surgeries you had or other stuff. Then he tests your eyes and tells you to bring the CD with you on your hand lagguage because they might want to see it at the port of entry. He told me to get the HPV shot and fax the information to him. Then you are ready to go. That's it. It took me almost exactly 1,5 hours. I've been out there just a few minutes before 9am.

I was totally nervous but it is easy going. Now I can laugh about myself that I have been so nervous. smile.gif

I recommend though to be there right when they open. Because after a while there were a lot of people in there as well as whole families which will take a way longer time. So if you don't want to wait too long, be there early.

So I got an appointment to get my HPV tomorrow morning. And now I am sick. I don't know if they give you the shot when you're sick. I actually don't think so. So I am relaxing, drinking tee, take some "meditonsin" smile.gif and talk to my honey, hoping to get better.

Now I am getting nervous about my interview. Do you know the exact amount of stamps you have to bring to the interview? I have read about it in one of those forums but I can't remember anymore and I can't find it on the embassy website. I guess it is something about 4 Euros. I don't have to bring an envelope I guess.
I had an interview already 3 years ago for my J1 and I had to bring an envelope that time too. But I can't remember the stamps anymore.
You see I am totally nervous. smile.gif

I will move to Michigan about 45 minutes north of Detroit. So close to the lakes. smile.gif

Thanks Kiwie and congrats to your interview smile.gif,

I will go to the doctor in Frankfurt tomorrow. I have everything but not the HPV. My doctory didn't want to give it to me as I will turn 27 in less than 3 weeks. And I have read on a different forum that a girl got the injection at the medical examination. Did you ask at the doctors?
What happens if I go there tomorrow and don't have HPV?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionTime between medical examination and immigration??
Hi everybody,
I found this forum while I was looking for some information about the K1 Visa process. It is very helpful so THANKS to all of you.

I got a question regarding the medical examination. I will have my interview at the us embassy in Frankfurt, Germany on the 19th of February 2009. Frankfurt told me that they will send me to the doctor after completing the interview. But I have read before that I could do it earlier to, is that right?? (In the letter from the embassy it says "medical examination: 19-Feb, 00:00).

And now the more important question. Is it true that I am not allowed to immigrate with the K1 earlier than 6 weeks after the medical??? Actually I wanted to immigrate asap. sad.gif

Thanks for your help!!!!

my joint sponsor is retired , i have his 2005,2006,2007 tax transcripts and also 1040 and 1099 for 2008 ,
he makes from pensions 70,000 $
do i need a bank letter , it is a checking account only ,and his pensions goes straight into this checking account ,
do you think i need a bank letter? or tax papers would be enough?

well, I would bring a letter from the bank. Just in case. The letter I had just showed the current balance. With tax transcripts you just show his income. With the letter from the bank they can see how much of the money he is saving and using. I would just do it and prefer having a little bit more than what might really be needed.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical exam while under chemotherapy
QUOTE (ell @ Feb 21 2009, 07:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello fellow VJers, it's been a long time since my last post. I just had my mastectomy last Jan. 28, 2009 and found out that it is a stage 2B breast cancer. Tomorrow (Feb. 23) I am going to start my chemotherapy and i'll be getting this every after 21 days for 6 sessions...so prolly i'll be done by June. Our case is still @ the NVC, sometime this week my husband will send the DS-230 to them. I am just wondering, if ever our case will be completed and sent to Manila while I'm still on chemotherapy, will this gonna be an issue on my medical exam? I am so eager to hear anything about this, so we know what to expect. Things are so stressful for us lately and what's more depressing is that things are delaying on our visa process due to this health issue...which means I won't be able to hold my husband anytime soon. Money has been tight too so he can't make a flight to come visit me after all the expenses we incurred during my surgery and my coming chemotherapy. (Sighs)

Thanks for reading and if you have any idea that you can share with me will be appreciated. God bless us all!

First of all I wish you all the best that everything turns out fine and you'll be better soon. I'll pray for you as well.

Regarding your question about the medical examination. I think you still can go there. Maybe you can call and ask ahead of time. But actually they are checking your lungs with X-Rays, are you allowed to do that during your chemotherapy? Then they check your blood for HIV and maybe some other deseases and urine. After that the doc checks your eyes and ears and asks you some questions. So as long as you tell them before starting the tests it should be fine. Hope this helps you a little bit.

I just filed the DS 156 and on the page 3, the previous visits are not written as I wanted, it cuts in the middle the phrase like:

MULTIPLE VISITS FROM CANADA BETWEEN
FEBRUARY 2008 AND OCTOBER 2008
NOV 2007 TO JAN 2008,
10 WEEKS
AUG 2007 TO SEPT 2007, 3 WEEKS
AUG 2004 T
O JULY 2007, UNDER J1 VISA

Should I re-do it?

It's the second time already because the first time, I had written the previous visits under the refusals category :s

Please let me know
Thanks

I just checked mine...I've never seen that before actually. On mine it shows it like that, too:

February 2007, approx. one month
De
cember 2006, approx. one month February 2006, approx
. six months May 2002, approx. two weeks July 1994,
approx. 4 weeks July 1992, approx. 4 weeks

I even haven't seen it and just turnded it in like that. Nobody ever said anything, and I got my K-1. You put that information on so many forms, I don't think it gives you any problems. The German embassy didn't give me any problems and I don't think the French one will... The more interesting thing for them is if you ever got denied a visa, anyway.
As long as all your information is in der somehow they will figure it out.

I had the same letter, too. You can go to a different doc from the list prior to your interview. If you don't want to loose any days, make sure you got all the vaccinations you need and go to the doctor LATEST 3 days before your interview. It usually takes 2 to 3 days for them to send the documentation.

USCIS takes a long time. You can check the current processing times on their website. Or you can check the timelines here on vj.
Did they already cash your check? Maybe there was something missing in your application, that's when it usually takes a little bit longer.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNo Emails For Proof of ongoing relationship
QUOTE (Hugglebuggles @ Apr 22 2009, 01:17 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
That is very unlikely. As long as you provided evidence of having met within the last two years then you've met the requirement. At this point in the application process, this is what they are most concerned with.

For the interview, this is when prof of an ongoing relationship is critical. But not having e-mails is nothing to be concerned about! Bring the evidence you do have- phone bills, copies of letters, messenger chats, anything! My fiance and I don't e-mail, we don't send letters, and we never save our MSN convo's. Personally, I don't feel like our personal communications on paper or through text is anyone's business but our own.

Absolutely. E-Mails are not a must. As long as you can proof somehow that you kept in touch. And maybe you have some pictures from different times you have seen each other. We tried to pick some pictures where you can see different seasons of the year, which proof we have seen each other more than ones...

Hi there.

My husband and I just did the whole process. (I'm from Germany).
We didn't have any problems. Everything went smooth and easy. If she has any questions tell her she's free to send me a privated message as well and I can give her some tips. smile.gif

My husband was ones arrested too, just for one night though and nothing serious. We asked his aunt who is an attorney and she said not to mention anything that is not shown in your records anymore. Which was our case and we didn't mention it....no problems accured. If you got it in your records, just tell it. But I don't think alcohol related issues (like drunk driving, etc.) should be a problem.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEnglish fiance - K1 questions...any help?
Congratulations!!!

I didn't use an attorney either. I think it is a waste of money if you don't have any special circumstances. They just take your money.
And as everybody else said, the instructions and especially this websites give you enough information to do it on your own. It is all about, filling forms, giving all the information and provied proofs and copies.

The timeline can be really different regarding how bussy your USCIS office is and how fast the embassy schedules an interview appointment.
My tip: As soon as your fiancé has to send in the paperwork to the embassy, just pick a date he would like to enter the US. I gave the German embassy 5 weeks till my departure, because my job already ended in Germany and I wanted to save some time. And it worked out. I had an interview appointment pretty fast. (2 weeks after sending the paperwork).

There are some POEs where your fiancé could ask for a stamp in his passport which would allow him to work. But that just lasts till you got married. I was told at the German embassy to ask for a temporary work permit as soon as I filed my AOS and EAD. I will try that, but don't know if it really works. Usually it takes about 3 months after filing the EAD to get the work permit.

It happend to my husband, too when he sent it in the first time. He just send in a new one and the old one got rejected. But it depends on how long ago you already filed the petition...we recognized 2 days later and so we just did it and it worked out. But if it is already longer ago you might want to call USCIS and ask. I wouldn't just sit there and wait...this might be a waste of time.

I've read on previous topics that exchanged e-mails are good for proof of ongoing relationship. I'm wondering how I should pick them? Can I just pick random e-mails from the both of us or whatever e-mails I include should have a "time line"? For example: if I add one e-mail from him, the e-mail from me should be an answer to that e-mail of his? I'm confused. I'm sorry if I don't sound very clear.

I picked random e-mails. I added 3 from him, one from 2007, one from 2008 and one from 2009. From me I picked 4, from 2006 to 2009. Should that be ok? Please tell me how you guys did it. I'm afraid I will get an RFE if that doesn't sound very consistent to them.

I picked random emails, too. Just what you did is perfect. Showing you stayed in touch all the time. And I tried to find emails showing the "love" and also emails where we were talking about seeing each other (so like sending flight informations with "can't wait to see you"). Just something like that. And some pictures and you should be fine.

Hi guys!

My eye is finally healed. It took forever because I have really dry eyes :|

I can't believe that you didn't get the NOA2 yet, Texas. I've been thinking about you alot and I really hope that you get approved soon.

I am flying to Newark tomorrow via London and I am really really nervous, sad and excited at the same time. I have to leave our two family dogs behind which is breaking my heart but I can't wait to finally end almost 7 years of long distance relationship! :luv:

Good luck to everyone waiting for the NOA2 (hopefully not that many people) or the interview! All the wait will be worth it in the end :)

Also, I have written a review of my interview if anyone is interested.

I just came back from the consulate in Frankfurt and we got approved! :) :) :) :) Now I'm sitting in the hotel trying hard not to cry. I'm shaking so hard D: My train doesnt go for another 4 hours.
