PhilippinesWhat's the best international calling card can we use?
I just switched to skype. I bought my fiancee a laptop and going to pay for her internet connection. The internet connection is only about 30 us dollars. That is so much cheaper then what i was spending a month on phone cards 100 to 200 every month. Skype is amazing you can chat for free and best of all if you skype to skype user is free anywhere in the world plus you get video. Plus whenever your SO gets here they can talk and see there family anytime. I just love it...

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsI-130 approved

I also talked to one of my friends who married a local Okinawan women.  He told me that his case was being transferred to another service center.  He submitted his package before I did, and told me about VJ.com.  I believe (my opinion of course) that certain service centers deal with a lot more Visa requests than others due to the population of that region.  Perhaps these service centers assist each other to allow for quicker approvals.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsI-130 approved

I currently live in Okinawa (military), for a few more weeks at least, my brother notifies me when I receive mail at my parents house.  I mailed the paperwork on I believe the 18-19th of January 2014.  He informed me early February that I received a NOA1.  The date on the USCIS website for this was 29 January.  Then he notified me a few days ago that I received another NOA(2).  This one said it was approved and will be sent to the NVC.  The website said it was approved on 04 Mar 2014.  I followed all the steps exactly how it's laid out in the CR-1 visa process (right here on VJ).  Cover page, all paperwork in order with all spots filled out correctly.  I also took this paperwork to my US Navy legal person.  She is not an expert in US immigration, however she was able to find a few mistakes I made so I adjusted them accordingly.  I didn't think my military status would effect how fast this was approved.  Perhaps it did?  No my wife was not in the Typhoon Haiyan region.  She is from Metro Manila.  My home of record is Colorado, and I sent the I-130 package to the Phoenix Dropbox.  The first NOA1 form was marked from the Nebraska Service Center.  I did not have the package expedited.

The marriage certificate from the Local City Registrar.  It was a certified copy.  I also provided about 15 receipts over the last year of Western Union transactions that I have sent to my wife (fiancee at the time).

Wow I just read some really long times on how long people waited to get there I-130 approved.  I received my wifes approval in 34 days.  So there is some hope out there that it doesn't take over 300 days.  I was expecting this step to take at least 3 months minimum.  Excited this happened so quickly for me.  My wife and I have not used a lawyer, only followed the steps here on VJ.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI-130 US Military

Hello all.  I just got married to my wife in the Philippines on January 3rd, 2014.  She will be the one getting the Visa.  Currently I am stationed in Okinawa, however I will transfer in 2 months before reporting to a school in Norfolk, for another 2 months, before I actually reach my permanent duty station in Point Mugu, California (around June).  I currently use a PO box as my mailing address in Okinawa, and I have no idea what my future addresses will be.  The I-130 form is asking for an address where she will live.  Now my first inclination would be to put my home of record (my parents address).  Granted I have not lived there for over 6 years, but it does show up in my military file as my parents house.  Will this be a problem?  If I do use the Colorado (parents) address, I assume I would mail the forms to Arizona.  I see on the travel.gov that I must maintain a principal address, however as a military member this isn't always an option due to PCS...

I have in the past emailed the USCIS military and received no help.  I gave them very specific information about my case and they in turn referred me back to the website and gave basic information (which is found on the website).  I emailed them because the answers are not on the website.  Has anyone had any luck getting information from the military helpline from the USCIS before?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresFilipino marriage contract

I would like to inquire about the Filipino marriage contract.  My wife and I were just recently married, Jan 3rd 2014.  I understand that the contract must go to the NSO, and that this process takes about 1 month.  My wife has a contact at the local city hall where the contract was completed.  Does the USCIS need a copy of the contract that has passed through the NSO?  Or can one that we receive that hasn't gone through that office work.  I'd like to get the I-130 filed ASAP, so waiting another month for that document to return is why I am asking.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresName change for spouse

After getting married, my wife and I received back from the civil registry our marriage contract.  Do I enter her name on the visa with the maiden name, or do I now put my last name for her as she will be using that name.  She will go about getting her name officially changed on her passport and NBI soon as well.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresG-325a question

My wife and I have both filled out the G-325a.  At the bottom it asks to type your name in the applicant section with an alien registration number.  I am a US citizen and she is not.  Neither of us have an Alien registration number, so I was going to just leave this blank.  Is that acceptable?  N/A or none?  My other question is about the same block.  Since I am the US citizen do I put my name in the block on my G-325a and her name in her block on her G-325a.  Or do both names need to be for the applicant?  Like both my name on the form or both my spouses name on the form?  Thanks.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresforgot to bring CENOMAR document during the interview!

I would be very careful with the NSO.  Some people may try to rip you off.  My wife tried to get a rush marriage certificate.  She got it rather quickly instead of waiting the 3-6 months.  She was able to attend a CFO seminar as well as get her name changed on her passport.  She used the NSO marriage certificate for this.  However when she applied for a tourist visa to visit me in Okinawa the Japanese embassy said the NSO marriage certificate was a fake.  Now I'm not sure how they were able to determine this, and the Philippines didn't, but the Japanese denied the tourist visa.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNVC error

Just received notification on April 22nd 2014 that the NVC wants me to pay the Affidavit of Support fee of $88.00.  Along with this they requested for the DS-261.  I attempted to do this immediately however received this error.

This case is in the process of termination. Fee payments and online forms can no longer be accepted. If you believe you have received this message in error, or to resume processing of the case, please contact the NVC immediately.

I proceeded to call the NVC and the attendant said to just wait a day its a system error.  So I waited until today, April 23rd and I am still getting this error.  How long should I wait to contact them again regarding this error message.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresChecklist...20 cents

Received a checklist because I was off by 20 cents on my I-864.  That's it...  Ridiculous...Anyways this checklist instructs me to write my case number clearly on the upper right hand corner of all documents.  And to include the checklist they send as well.

My question is multifold... Does this mean to write the full case number, beneficiary's name, preference category, and priority date?  Or just the case number?  On which documents?  The I-864?  The checklist?  The income tax return?  Everything I submit?  Should I even include the income tax return again?  I do not have the time to call the NVC 70 times a day (yes I have done this with constant busy tone for 3 hours) or wait until right before they close and have them say they are no longer taking calls.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresdoes hiring a lawyer really help ??

If you have money to burn or your time is precious sure go ahead and get the lawyer.  I just received a checklist from the NVC, my first hiccup, and it was because I used a number off the W2 form instead of the 1040 form.  A total of 20 cents difference on my I-864 form.  Ive used VJ exclusively along with really reading all the information on the USCIS and NVC websites.  If you can follow instructions and be sure to double and triple check your work you can save a few thousand dollars by doing it yourself.
