Russia, Ukraine and BelarusIs translation of docs for Kiev, Ukraine really needed?
Can't be too careful, right? :) I'm sure I'll get an RFE from USCIS now, but I'm not too worried about when the interview takes place...I don't know how I thought they'd accept it with my note that that's what that document was LOL :bonk:

Translated mine just in case (I'm a careful one :) ), but generally, as has been pointed out, the consulate doesn't ask for it.

 Thank you! Will do :)

Alla does translations. She neither charges astronomical prices nor does it take 2 minutes. PM me if you are interested.

 Very good advice, thank you! and thank you for the welcome :) It seems like simultaneously time is flying when I look back and dragging in the moment and looking forward...

We also talk here about getting other documents translated that will be needed later, mostly health and other medical records, school transcripts and any documents that could be used in future jobs or certifications. It is usually easier to get them translated in Ukraine and cheaper too.

Oh, and welcome to VJ and the process. Be patient, it will come to an end and the two of you will be together.

Ah #######...so I pretty much guaranteed myself an RFE for not having a certified translation of his divorce document for the I129??? Can it be a copy of the certified translation (say if he gets it there and emails to me)?? They charge pretty astronomical prices for something that takes two minutes to translate here LOL

I will add that the instruction applies to the Kiev consulate. It does not apply to USCIS. ANY documents not in English which are presented to the USCIS need to be translated.

For the petition (I-129f) this could be her divorce document (if any) former marriage or change of name certificate (if any) or any documents which are needed for the AOS or citizenship process later.

You answered your question... follow what the consulate says... English, Russian and Ukrainian documents do NOT need to be translated

 Awesome...sometimes I just see conflicting info and that's probably due to the differences in the embassy requirements...wanted to triple make sure they're not going to ask for them all in English :) Thanks.

Hi Everyone!!! I finally joined after a couple of months of research and stalking the site :D And first of all, thank you VJ and everyone that has put such a wealth of information on here to be helful to everyone else. Definitely not an easy process, but the reward will be the sweetest :D (L)

Last month I sent off the I129 and feel confident that we had everything needed in that big packet, mostly thanks to this forum! I'm trying to look ahead and see what we will need to prepare for when the time comes for the interview. The embassy website for Kiev, Ukraine states the following:

Documents in English, Ukrainian or Russian do not need to be translated. When you arrive for the interview, you MUST present all the original documents accompanied by an English translation, which is produced by a certified translator, only if the document is not in English, Ukrainian or Russian.

I see that VJ says you need to accompany any doc not in English, with a certified translation. Anyone, everyone, that has gone through this process in Kiev, could you please let me know if my fiance will need to get his documents translated? They will be in the languages listed :)

And on the I134, do I HAVE to list everything that's on that list of stuff (stocks/bonds, life insurance, property, etc)? Or if my income is enough to qualify, would that be sufficient?

Congratulations to all that are already united with your loved ones (L) I can't wait to have my honey by my side! Thank you for all your help and advice...

That miserable choice you speak of was made by Eastern Ukrainians. She pulled most of the votes from Western Ukraine. Although in defense of Eastern Ukrainians, she was a thief and a back stabber from the get go. If it weren't for her, Yushenko might still be president. Reason I said "supposedly" was because it's so corrupt...that regardless of who votes for what, they still do whatever they want. But yes, majority of the votes for Yanukovich of course came from the East.

It would be nice to see Ukraine stay as one country, and be democratic, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. The differences are too great imo. Eastern Ukrainians and the Russian implants in Eastern Ukraine have made it obvious that democracy Kremlin style is what they want.

Western Ukraine has close ties with Poland and more in common with the West. Western Ukrainians don't want to speak Russian, and they don't want to be Kremlin wh*res. That's where the differences lie for the most part. I don't think the Eastern Ukrainians want to be anyone's "who*res"...I think just as anyone else, all they want is something fair...something that allows them to prosper as human beings and as a country.

Let Eastern Ukrainians celebrate "Victory Day" while completely forgetting about Holodomor, and let Western Ukrainians take their chances with the EU and the rest of democratic Europe. Why should Western Ukrainians have to suck up to the Kremlin who does nothing but pervert everything it touches including history.

In Western Ukraine they speak Ukrainian and they are Ukrainian, not some offspring from Russian peasants that were moved into Eastern Ukraine and still have that long lost love for the Kremlin and everything Russian. :wow: I sense quiet a bit of animosity in this comment and definitely not where I was taking this discussion...not sure why it's necessary to try and offend and degrade the people as a whole. These kinds of statements make discussions pointless. The long lost love that people have is basic psychology... quote]

I guess I have more of humanistic approach looking at the country and its people and felt it was unfair to generalize, when I know your statement shouldn't be applied to all.

I think this would be the perfect time for Western Ukrainians to split from Eastern Ukraine. Make a clean break and don't look back. It gives Western Ukraine a chance to have a real democracy and a good chance to join the EU and the rest of civilized and democratic Europe while Eastern Ukraine can suck up to the Kremlin along with a possible merger of Russia, Eastern Ukraine, and Belarus...so that Moscow can treat those countries like a Siberian Oblast as it has in the past.

Seriously the only thing holding back Western Ukrainians is Eastern Ukrainians along with the Kremlin. Let the Stalin loving ROC suck ups go down together in the sinking ship seeing how it's what they choose time after time while always blaming the other guy for their miserable choices.
Not really fair to generalize like that...although Western and Eastern Ukrainians have their differences (and it's sad to experience those differences when you're there), they're all still people of Ukraine and all the people of Ukraine deserve the right to a true democracy. Trust me, there are plenty of Eastern Ukrainians that are supporters of Tymoshenko, especially the last two generations. The miserable choice was (supposedly) made by ALL the people of Ukraine by voting - that is if they really had a choice in the first place.
This is not a likely outcome since Western Ukraine would probably end up landlocked and without a financial or industrial base. It would be easier and better to change presidents.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusUkraine DS156 DS156K Help
Hi Everyone!

Our petition was recently approved and is headed to NVC. And like I've said before, I did get and RFE for one of the documents I didn't translate, translated it, certified it and all was ok. Phew! Although my fiance isn't as thrilled as I am right now, he says the hard part is yet ahead...but I was definitely doing the happy dance when I got the notification. Anyways, we wanted to find out what your fiance put down when filling out the DS156 & DS156K when something wasn't applicable to them. Here I always put N/A, but he says "not applicable" doesn't seem right in Russian so we wanted to see what others put down that have gone through this process successfully.

Thank you in advance :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsFinally we have the visa! Thank God!!!

11 months after our initial interview, after AP, a stolen passport, 3 police certificates and 2 medical clearances, we have the visa!! The embassy called Babs last week and asked him to come in this Wednesday with his passport and updated medical. His medical was finished in just three days, he had to run and pick it up on the same morning as his appointment at the embassy. The CO told him that his name causes extra AP, and then he said he didn't want to delay him any longer, so he told him to come back today, only 2 days later, to pick up the visa.

We are just thanking God and praying for a safe journey!

Jen and Babs

 :) So happy for you!!! Looking at your timeline and your story, wow...congratulations!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsIs it just me or has going through immigration really put wedding planning into perspective?
 Well said :) Likewise, I registered for that site and get sooo many emails that I no longer read them and just delete. It actually does the opposite for me than what it's supposed to do and makes me want to have a very small celebration when my honey gets here w/o all the crazy big wedding stuff...the journey we're on right now truly does put many things in perspective...not being with the one you love is very hard, but when we have them back in our arms...
