K-3 Spouse Visa Process & Procedureshelp needed.... what next?
Cons, I see that you haven't gotten any answers...
You'll probably get more replies if you post this in the K-3 forum. This is the Off topic forum.

I came here on a K-1 visa, so I'm afraid that I can't really help you too much.

To check your case status online, go to the USCIS website and root around...you'll find a place for case status there.

As for making your timeline/signature, if you go to the link for "My Controls" located at the top of the page and then click on Edit my Signature, you will be able to figure it out.
Good Luck!

Yeah you're definitely new to this site, all right, or you wouldn't have made a comment like that towards Lorelle or Yodrak. Who do you think you are?
Whatever you think, you can now add "B!tch-who-got-no-answers" to that title.

US Citizenship General DiscussionCitizenship test?

When I was about to to do my interview in Denver, I thought that maybe I'd have the choice or something. Guess the volunteer choice wasn't inplemented yet and they only had the basic old version. Heard in the spring is when they'll do the sample new tests. Then next year, determine which questions to keep and which ones to get rid of.

I thought the new test was worded differently and definatly had more 136 I think questions. More explanation type answers rather then the yes, no, single answers seen in the old test. I still haven't heard anyone who has taken the new test yet...

136 questions????!!! :help:

Great! So glad that someone has a positive experience with Passport Canada.
I've been waiting almost 2 months for my daughter's and mine after getting a letter back a month after applying that both our passport photos were unacceptable due to "glare" on our foreheads. Sent back new ones 2 weeks ago, now waiting for the outcome....

P.S. I should add that my situation is different as well tho because I wasn't able to go in person to Passport Canada because I live in the US.

Montreal is just SO better than Toronto, ya know. ;)
:P

ah, but does Montreal have the Tolkien Gathering convention, and fireworks by Mithrandir? I think not! :P

;)

No, Montreal's Old Port just celebrates Canada Day with a free rock concert (3 years ago it was BLUE RODEO) and hosts the INTERNATIONAL FIREWORKS COMPETITION (and there just happens to be one of the competitors showing his stuff the night of July 1st). .
Oh and of course, the parade....and the birthday cake. :D
Something like half a million usually attend....lol. And everyone gets along famously!
Why don't you make the 6 hour drive from T.O. and join us?

CanadaCanada Day Parade in Montreal?

Quebecers aren't big on Canada Day. Their big celebration is June 24, Saint Jean Baptiste Day. If you want parades and fireworks on July 1, go to Ottawa.

Sorry I disagree. I lived in Montreal all of my life.
Yes St. Jean Baptiste Day is definitely popular but so is Canada Day, don't fool yourself.
In recent years there have been upwards of hundreds of thousands of people at the parade and the Old Port on July 1st!

OMG!!!....There are those of you from NDG and the West Island?????!!! :o
And hell you work at PVM, Jedi!? Holy ####### hahaha I feel like I've come home! hehe
Thanks for all that info!
I'm from Verdun, lived there all my life before coming to Virginia 3 years ago.

And siiiiigh yeah I guess the festivities aren't quite as "festive" as Ottawa's maybe but hell It's whatcha make it, right? And I have all intentions of making it gooooooood! :D

CanadaCanada Day Parade in Montreal?

The website for the party in the Old Port is: http://www.celafete.ca/EN/index.php

They don't have anything posted yet for this year's event, but it should be up soon! I'm sure they'll have concerts and fireworks and stuff for the kids as usual...

The parade is usually just before lunch, around 11am or so, iirc, and ends up at Place du Canada/Dorchester Square/Dominion Square where they do all the speeches and, yes, serve the cake! :)

Yay! Thank you, cdngirl! (F) NOW I remember that it was Dominion Square, of course! hehe Hell that's handy - our hotel is just 3 blocks away too.
Thanks for that link too, I had it too but hell you'd think they'd have it updated by now with Canada Day being just 3 and a half weeks away!
I am SO excited hehe my hubby said I'm getting on his nerves with how hyper I am hahaha
Thanks again!

P.S. Do you live in montreal? If so whereabouts? I used to live in Verdun, 5 minutes from downtown Montreal - ring any bells?

I thought the Canada Day parade there was everyone switching apartments?

:hehe: Actually with the rental housing shortage the past few years, that's kinda changed nowadays!

CanadaCanada Day Parade in Montreal?
As I have mentioned here before, hubby and I will be in Montreal on July 1st and I'd like to share Canada's special day with him.
Anyone here IN Montreal and know what time the parade begins and what route it takes? Also if they still give out a piece of Canada's birthday cake to everyone and just where that might be? LOL I have searched the Net and am coming up empty and i'll be damned if I can remember any of it even tho I lived there all of my life!
Do they still have a free concert at the Old Port and does anyone know who might be doing the show this year?

All input is much appreciated...thank you.

CanadaMontreal Experience
You just had a real crappy experience, unfortunately Freda....
I'M a Montrealer, well was for 44 years before I came here and oddly enough, I never encountered anyone like that. I'M not like that. Even my hubby who is American and speaks no French says that he had absolutely no problem every time he visited me - the people realized he couldn't speak French, then they'd simply switch to English.
Unfortunately, you don't know the city that well either. If you had, you might not have chosen the Days Inn. (on Guy St. right?) It's a bad part of town down there at the end where that motel is. I'm not surprised your car got broken into. Unfortunately tho, car break-ins DO happen anywhere you go.
And just as there are breakins anywhere, there are people who have unfortunate experiences such as yours.
Thank God tho, that Montrealer that I am, I know better than to compare a few people to the other MILLIONS in and around the city....lol...and know that one or two pages does NOT a book make!
I (L) Montreal!
That said, congrats on getting your visa.
See? I didn't speak French, spit OR act rudely either! And GASP! I'm from

CanadaAnyone applied for a new Canadian Passport from the USA?
Just so everyone knows how it went for us...
Those of you who said that all I needed were our green cards were right. I had the passports ready to show if asked but the green cards were sufficient.
Flames, funny enough, same thing happened to us on the way back - they wanted to see my US hubby's passport as well as his driver's license but not anything other than mine and my daughter's green cards haha I had a bit of a laugh at that one. :hehe:
Our visit in Montreal (and environs) was absolutely awesome, hubby and I squeezed SO much into the 10 days, and we took HUNDREDS of pics, no lie...lol...damn, you'd think I didn't live there all my life.
Here's 2 as an example...

CanadaAnyone applied for a new Canadian Passport from the USA?
Yes ma'am.
I tend to worry on the side of caution but that's just me. Better safe than sorry, eh?
Besides, when I had my interview for AoS and was approved, the AO "suggested" that it's a good idea to always have a valid passport to my country seeing I was now a permanent resident.
My passport was going to expire the beginning of this month as well so I thought it a good idea to send away for it.
That's it, that's all. :D

Yes, Stina, if your passport has your married name (mine now does) then you can get tickets in your married name too.
Altho....we are driving to Montreal this time. :)
9 days before we get there and I'm already packed! hahaha
But I'm not excited or anything....lol.

CanadaAnyone applied for a new Canadian Passport from the USA?
Just to update - I finally received my daughter's and my passport today via overnight courrier from Passport Canada. They even sent back my old (now expired) passport that they'd punched right thru with 2 holes and stamped "CANCELLED" inside of it. Which I had asked for but stipulated "only if possible" because I wanted it as a souvenir with my permanent resident (I-551) stamp in it....lol.
Total time from the first day I sent it out....2 months and a day.
Of course, there was a delay because of the so-called "glare" problem so make sure your face shows no glare when you send for your passport! :P

10 days till Montreal!

CanadaAnyone applied for a new Canadian Passport from the USA?

Sharon, you can also use Birth Certificates (with photo ID, in your case a green card more than likely or DL or state ID) to enter canada also.. it wont be required to have a passport to cross the canada/US border until the end of 2006... maybe getting the passport pic done in canada will be that much easier... Have a good trip back to canada!!

Ummmm...in order to apply for our passports....I had to send our original birth certificates with the applications.
They will then send them back to me when they process the passports.
So lucky me, eh? No birth certificates. I have copies yes, but doubt they'd be any good.

I got our new pics done today. I went back to the same place that did our first ones and showed him that they'd been rejected and that they said we had that "glare". The photographer took our pics again but a notch darker and they do look better. As an apology, the photographer not only took our pics again for free but he also gave me back what I'd paid to have them done in the first place. Now I just have to get the pics notarized on Monday and send them back out.

Wanna take bets here, peeps? Who thinks that I will have our passports to go to Canada with on June 23rd?
I'm leaning towards....yes.
No.
I mean yes.
Hell if I know. :P

Stupid frickin' Passport Canada.

I got back BOTH my daughter and my passport applications today with a note that our pics are unacceptable. Apparently, there is a "glare" on our foreheads.
There's no glare. They take over a month to tell me this?
A$$holes.

Looks like I am depending entirely on our green cards to get us over the border and back now so they better work...lol.
I'll get new pics taken of us tomorrow but even if I send them express, i don't see the passports getting back to us in time for when we leave on June 23rd.

Just thought I'd keep you all posted in case anyone else needs to apply for one from within the US as well.

Sharon, you have no worries. My sister has been living in the USA since 1967 and she goes home (Newfoundland) every year and she only has to show her Green Card. She is in the process of getting her Canadian Passport (she never did give up her citizenship...........and that goes for me too), only because at the end of 2006/2007 Passports will be a necessity!! Enjoy your trip ...........as long as you have your AP and all that good stuff..you're a shoe in.......................((((((((((HUGS))))))))))

Nah I don't need my AP if I am a permanent resident who has a green card.

I'm a lot less worried now tho, I'll tell ya!

CanadaAnyone applied for a new Canadian Passport from the USA?
Just to keep you all posted on this - I received back the "return receipt" part of the passport forms I sent "registered mail & return receipt requested". just this morning. It states that it was received in Gatineau, Quebec on May 1st. So far, from April 13th's post date, it's been a little under a month since I mailed them out. Hoping to receive the passports back by the end of this month now and will let you know when they arrive.

Marilyn, you telling me you just used your green card to cross over the border makes me feel much more secure, thank you. :) At least I won't be totally freaking out if I don't get our passports in time...lol.

CanadaAnyone applied for a new Canadian Passport from the USA?

Edited to add: You know what? I just pulled out the good ol'green card. It states your country of birth right on it... so if you're a Canadian citizen by birth, maybe that's got something to do with it being accepted. *shrug*

Thanks Amy and Brian! You are so right!
Well that's a load off my mind then. I'm willing to take the chance and if anything is said, I'll be completely honest and tell him/her that I sent all my important documents when I applied for my passport and haven't received it yet. Hell I even still have the receipt from the post office because I sent it registered too. That's why I will have no original birth certificate, marriage certificate or the like. I DO have copies of all tho and will take them as well to be safe.
I should be just fine! :D

CanadaAnyone applied for a new Canadian Passport from the USA?
It's refundable only if I cancel within 30 days of my expected arrival date. I guess that gives me enough time - if the passports aren't here by May 24th, it'll be 6 weeks since I applied so I could always cancel the cottage then if I really had to. Really hate to do that tho. A week up north (yeah we're already stocking up on the repellent haha shouldn't be too bad at the end of June tho) with all 3 of my kids and my hubby on a lake in this cottage.
And then 2 nights in a hotel room in downtown Montreal so I can share the "Canada Day and Fireworks at the Old Port" experience with my American hubby for the first time. I'd REALLY hate having to cancel it when I am already SO looking forward to it all.
Yeah yeah I know we shouldn't have reserved the cottage unless I was sure and blah blah :P
It was all just too exciting! :D
Now, if it doesn't all blow up in my face, I'll be a happy camper!

CanadaAnyone applied for a new Canadian Passport from the USA?
Has anyone applied for a new Canadian passport from the USA at all recently??
I'm wondering how long it takes. The website states that they aim to have it processed within 20 days of receiving it (excluding mail delivery time), so I'm figuring if it takes about a week each way to get to and from Quebec from Virginia, then I estimate that it should be in my hands within 5 to 6 weeks.
Can anyone confirm that this is the case for sure? :)
I sent out the applications almost a week ago (registered and return receipt requested...almost TWELVE BUCKS! ) for mine and my daughter's passports because they expire in June - am I being too hopeful if I make tentative plans to travel to Canada for June 24th, do ya think?

CanadaFor the K-1ers with children
I had had the court documents from years ago stating that I had sole custody.
It was suggested to me by another immigration forum that I should have something more recent, so I had my ex go to a notary and have a "letter of permission" drawn up and notarized. It was a brief letter that basically supplied his name, my name and my future husband's name and my daughter's of course. In it he stated that he was fully aware and amenable to the fact that Alli would be living in the USA with me and her new step-father, had his permission to travel freely but that my ex would retain vistation right as agreed "by mutual consent". Gave his address and phone number as well as ours, signed it and had the notary sign, date and put a red seal on it.
I have used this letter for crossing the border (back and forth for 3 years now), added a copy of it with my adjustment of status application when I applied and never had a single problem with it.
I say get a letter notarized if you can.

Since we went to Canada for 2 weeks at the end of June/beginning of July, we won't be going to Canada for Xmas BUT my 2 oldest kids (Fawn, almost 24 and Justin, 18) will be getting here on December 26th and staying till Jan 3!
Annnnnnnd...despite the fact that I've only been an employee at the inn for a total of 6 months (worked there from beginning of March to the end of June, left for the summer and been back since Sept. now) my boss gave me all the time off that my 2 oldest kids are here! :luv:

omg baby its so true, we are finally at the point where we know our life together will be able to start. Its been so long, we have had so many amazing days together and all of those ended with us having to kiss each other goodbye and then not knowing when we would be able to see each other again. Always having to go back to the computer to see your crying eyes and missing you so much each and every time. Now, wow, its like a dream to be able to even think of the day when I come and get you, and its only in April. Just wait till we can celebrate early when we get to see each other in only 1.5 weeks.

Canadamedical exam

i'll be going to the one in windsor and, after checking their website, they recommend my regular family doctor write them a brief statement about my medical history and psych history. i have panic attacks often and have been to the ER often, would that be a big deal? i went to a psych for about a year a couple years ago, and have been on anti-psychotics before and such to help with my panic attacks.

my question is, would it be more wise to just not have a letter from my family doctor? lol. or even though they say they recommend it, it's not a big deal and i wont be turned down? i'm not on any medication currently, if that changes anything.

also, it mentioned they take appointment call tuesdays but they set up the times according to how they want. my appointment in on april 5th, but i havent received my final packet yet (i just found out from the NVC). would i make it in time?

anyone else find it creepy they have a note on their site that they dont care if you have your period, theyll do the exam anyways :bonk:
