I'm in the military, and I couldn't even enter the US Embassy one time I went because "I didn't have an appointment"... My understanding was that US Embassies worldwide are US Sovereign territory. A little piece of the nation. So I couldn't enter my own country because I didn't have an appointment.... :bonk:

Yes, they are a "bit" insane. I thought about starting a protest up at one point. I'm sure they'd love that, a protect led by their own citizen in a foreign country... Oh well, maybe AFTER the interview  They need to get stirred up. Maybe having actual Americans doing the interviews instead of foreigners. Not sure why Brits and Aussies are interviewing people for entry into the US...

First of all, you of all people should have been personally escorted into the Embassy by US Marines and given more personal service.

As to why non-americans are filling these interviewing posts, may be they couldn't get enough qualified Americans to work in Malaysia? <shrugs> Regardless, the Ambassador should be made aware of any poor service/ mistreatment of any Americans by any US Embassy/ consulate.

I have emailed this embassy before, and received responses that are ridiculous. (aparently written by a Taliban with poor command of the language).

I agree completely SteveAndTiff!! The KL Embassy seems to be staffed with a bunch of A-holes.

There is 0 logic to the way they apply policies.

However shortly after getting denied the tourist visa, my military unit back home sent me notification. We ended up having to send in the I-130 packet about a week later after the tourist visa interview.

My wife's interview is scheduled for Tuesday, hope it goes well. I have to be back in the US by 1 March, so sure as hell hoping they approve! All the paperwork is there so... fingers crossed!

And you're in the military no less? And they still treated you like a schmuck?? That's outrageous!

Yes from what I've heard from my inlaws, that Embassy is staffed by a bunch of A-holes. I wanna go over there and stir the pot a little bit lol.

Best of luck with your process.

My wife and I got married in February, and have been in Malaysia ever since. We just applied for a B2 visa, so we could go back and visit my family over Christmas, but she was denied. They said no proof to show she would return...

I'm confused. If we didn't return, then so what? She just applied for the greencard while in the US on a tourist visa right? Whats the problem?

Does anyone know what proof they could possibly want? There's no way I want to return to the US, I don't want to pay the outrageous taxes! I have a job here in Malaysia, been out of the US for 3 years now, and we have property and family in Malasia. What else do they want? The embassy staff couldn't (wouldn't) tell what proof to supply, just kept saying to keep re-applying!

Any advise? Are they forcing us to apply for the greencard?

Dude the KL Embassy is crazy. My wife's siblings tried on 3 occasions with plenty of supporting evidence (and they have detailed packages with I-134's from me as well) that they have strong ties to Malaysia, and they were denied. Based on intending immigration. In your case, that would be true, however there'd be no reason for illegal immigration. I did hear that once you file an I-130, it's unlikely that she'd get a B1/B2 visa. They just make you wait. That's standard for many Embassies.

BTW, hello everyone.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)How to obtain ITIN number via W7 form?
If I'm correct, if you get an ITIN for your wife, , and subsequently your wife gets an ssn, you should write to the IRS to rescind the ITIN.

This is so that the IRS can merge the info from the ITIN to the new SSN

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHas THIS affected your health?
QUOTE (SteveColo @ Feb 17 2009, 11:54 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
4 months ago, my beautiful wife and step-daughter got on a plane and headed back to Ukraine. Since that time, my health has steadily declined. I have had chest pains, headaches, serious bouts of depression, stomach pains, arthritic flair ups that my regular medicine can't seem to fix, even dizziness at times ...

My stress level has got to be at the heart of it I guess. On top of the immigration stuff, I lost my job a few months ago. I was able to find work again, and at a salary above the magical 125% line, but all our savings are gone. Even IF we got our approvals today, there is no way I could bring them home.

You all know the costs ... If I follow through with the CR1, I'm looking at close to $1000 ... round trip air fare for me to go to the interview is around $1200 ... 2 one way tickets for them to come back around $1800 ... plus medicals, etc.

I don't know how I'm going to do it. I can't find a 2nd job to save my life. Her parents might have been able to help with her ticket back here, but now 7 banks in Ukraine have shut down and my in-laws have lost everything they had saved.

Anyway, sorry to ramble wacko.gif ... I was just wondering if anyone else here is physically falling apart through this whole process. Obviously, the emotional toll of being separated from the one you love is terrible and gut-wrenching.

Have you noticed a difference in your physical health?

Thanks for your input ... and best wishes to all good.gif

Steve, what a great topic you brought up. and YES, I been feeling all kinds of symptoms lately. And I work out all the time. And I'm not going thru half the stuff you are going thru. My wife is here, my job is secure. Our process is smooth so far. And yet.........I'm all stressed out. My wife, on the other hand...is real calm and cool about this.....I wish I could be that relaxed.

The good thing is that I have undergone all kinds of tests (because one day I thought I was having a heart attack). I went for a nuclear stress test too, and the Doctor said "You're a healthy guy Steve, relax, and smoke all you want" (OK he didn't tell me to smoke). But anyway, I'm glad all of you shared your experience.

Good luck to you Steve, and hang in there. You are not alone.

The N400 is like a yellow tag sale, you get 2 for the price of one...it's easy, good luck. (aparently your wife is from England, just tell her to remember that they didn't win the revolutionary war)

You need a valid greencard, or an expired one with the temporary proof of status (proving that you're in the process of renewing your greencard). So the answer is, yes renew the greencard.

US Citizenship General DiscussionDoes USCIS take the green cards after oath taking?
They will take your greencard when you take your oath. And they tell you don't submit an application for a US passport for a week or so, because you're not in the system yet (My wife just went through this a few months ago). Perhaps get an Advanced Parole during the lapse of citizenship and getting your new US passport?

Oh yea...come to think of it, that's why I didn't show a utility bill, paperless billing...In fact, I had everything paperless, and all our supporting financial documents were computer printouts... I think we only submitted 2 or 3 things, it wasn't a lot (bank statement, pension statement, life insurance). I kept it as simple as possible, and waited for them to ask me for more. And at the interview, they did ask for more lol. But my wife didn't have more documents on her, but the interviewing officer passed her anyway...(nice guy)

We didn't submit any proof that we lived together. The house is in my name, it was bought prior to marriage. Cars are in my name, utilities are in my name, etc...Hey, my wife has nothing to her name

Oh and most importantly...Good Luck !

Well that is what the OP asked in Q4.

It sounds as if the OP wants to obtain the cheapest "official" document for her children which would indicate their US citizenship, and this would be the passport card. A certificate of citizenship from USCIS costs $600 per child.

well yes, the passport card would be the cheapest way to go...

US Citizenship General DiscussionProof of Citizenship

A US passport card is proof of US citizenship; since US passport cards are only issued to US citizens then anyone carrying a legitimate US passport card must, by definition, be a US citizen:

http://en.wikipedia....i/Passport_card

http://germany.usemb...s/passportcard/

Oh yea no doubt it's proof of citizenship. But I think the OP meant more in the context of whether it is the equivalent of a passport book, such as for USCIS purposes.
SATMaleMalaysia2013-02-07 18:57:00

to reiterate, a passport card is not the equivalent of a passport book when it comes to proving citizenship. Otherwise try sending in a copy of your passport card to the USCIS when you're trying to petition someone.

US Citizenship General DiscussionProof of Citizenship

Hello fellow members

Just wanna ask some clarification on some issues. Here is my situation.

I became a US Citizen ( mother) in December 2012. My 2 kids who were petitioned by my USC husband got their 10 yr.green card ( IR2). My kids been here for a lil over 2 years.

The way i understand it,,once i become a citizen my kids (15 and 11) will also be a citizen. Am i right?

Here are my questions:

1. When i became a US Citizen does it make my 2 kids a citizen as well?

2.what is the cheapest proof of citizenship that i can get for my kids?

3.Can i get a US passport card instead of the passport book( they are not travelling out of the country)?

4. Is passport card equivalent to passport book when it comes to proof of citizenship?

Thank you all very much for your response.

1-yes
2-passport
3-yes
4-no

I know times are tough and the economy here sucks...unemployment rate is thru the roof. Just wondering if anyone has experienced discrimination "due to national origin"?? I was on the fast track to getting a job (the gal doing the hiring-her and I really clicked and out of 150 applicants after 1 day of advertising on Craigslist, she asked me to come in & fill out an app) and I have proof of the progression thru emails until the Manager questioned my immigration status, if I had a Green Card, working visa, etc. He was supposed to call me to set up a time for testing and I never heard from him. I've emailed her since but it does sound fishy...
Let me know what you guys think....

He gets paid cash and no check. So he has no W2. He filed like almost 20,000 for each of the pass 2 years. So i was wondering will this affect him?

He should be OK Joelyn, he filed with a form 10-99 in place of a W-2, most likely a Form 10-99MISC. He can use that 1099 to substitute the W-2.

This ridiculous process of getting green cards reminds me of The Trial by Kafka. Bureaucracy for Bureaucracy's sake. It is also absurd how people can hop over the border and get free health care and college tuition via the Dream Act but we basically sign out lives away with the Affidavit of Support and can't even get the time of day.

May be the US should have a new card, like in soccer, a yellow card....you get one as an illegal, and it lets you do stuff..(what stuff? I don't know), and if you get a red-card (again, like soccer) you get ejected from the game.... what purpose would that serve? once again, I don't know...But it sure would make the Green-card holders feel a little better knowing that they're ahead of the yellow-card and the red-card?

At this stage of the game you should be applying for citizenship.

By the way Goce. Years ago, I was in the Military (USMC). I had a Military Occupational Specialty where I had to take a written and oral psychological exam, the written portion of which was 1500 questions. And in it they asked the same questions like 15 times, all phrased in different forms. (i.e. question#10-do you like tall women? then question #120-do you think tall women are attractive. etc). The test took so long, that if you lied on question 20, you would not remember it if question 830 was the same question. Anyway, when you answered inconsistently, they would ask you the question again in the oral exam. These regents are designed to seek out the truth and inconsistencies. May be the USCIS employ the same tactics?

Goce, VJ is a great place for you to vent your frustrations, and we're here for you. So keep venting if it makes you feel any better. We'll lend you emotional and moral support as we all stand on common ground.

But I tend to agree with LinaMD, don't lose your cool. There's an old saying..."Don't drink the soup until it's cooked". So perhaps before you go "firing" the USCIS officer, wait and see what happened. If he/she asked the same question 10 times, and got the same answer 10 times, well then she has no inconsistencies to base any fraud on.

In our experience, when my wife and I went to her AOS interview, they did sit us together, but most of the questions were directed at me (I'm the USC sponsor). The 1 question that she asked my wife, my wife answered it wrong! (The question was how old was I when we met). Anyway, our interview could have been perceived by someone else as "hostile", but I saw it as nothing other than "Professional". So there's the matter of perception, it's how you look at it, and from what angle. Of course none of us was there to witness this, but neither were you. So even you might not have seen the interview the same way your wife did.

Now just because the I/O said the interview is over, doesn't mean that you are denied. May be the I/O too, lost her patience, slammed the file shut and thought "OK, what the hay, that's enough, I'll let it pass".

So hang in there Goce, and lets see what happens. We're behind you.

I agree with the former poster who mentioned that it is prudent to keep calm and cool during an interview, no matter how hostile you may think the interviewing officer is. If the answers that your wife gave is true and correct, they can ask the same question 10, 100 times, and the answer will always be the same. It's easy to tell the truth.

I wouldn't worry if your marriage is bonafide, there is nothing to hide. It's difficult for the USCIS to prove a marriage fraudulent if it's not. After all, it IS what it IS...
