I really don’t wana send any extra documents they don’t ask for…the more paper work the more the chance for RFE.

That mean you need the translation if the document is NOT in English or the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made.

Guys,

I’m ready to send in the DS 230 along with all the required Paper work but I have a quick question.

Do I need to translate the Original Documents (B CERTIFICATE, Criminal records, Marriage certificate, ….) before sending it to the NVC?

I just got of the phone with NVC operator and she said “ I don’t need to translate it as long as its on the native language” ( all the documents in Arabic(Egypt), and the interview will be in Egypt which is our native country)

At the same time I read here on VJ that we need to send a translation along with every original document.

Your help is really appreciate it.

Hey guys, it look like we gona stick with the NVC for a while..
the NVC received my AOS on July 23, and just send my DS230 today, july/27…
I called them today the operator said that they have my AOS and they waiting on my DS230 and all the other civil doc.

!!!!Approved!!!, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the email today from USCIS stating that my case was approved on jun/25 (e mail received 10 Am on Saturday!!!) and an approval notice was mailed out… NVC here I come… :thumbs:

Thanks to you all,
I do have the translation for all my documents; I was kinda shocked when the operator told me that I don’t need the translation. At the same time VJ members mention that the translation is A MUST.

I just wanted to know if the operator gave me a misleading info..

The following is directly from the US Department of State - Instructions for Immigrant Visa Applicants.

Translation Requirements

All documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator that states that the:

* Translation is accurate, and
* Translator is competent to translate.

so that mean mean you need the translation if the document is NOT in English or the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made.

Please correct me if I’m wrong.

My interview on October 18 and already booked my ticket to be with my wife during the interview…if it didn’t help it wont hurt ( I wana be there in case of any surprises)… also I don’t want my wife to go through this by her self…also booked our tickets to come back to the states together 3 weeks after the interview…

I'm a late filer, sent my package 07/30 but after reading the instructions I found out I could have sent it 3 months ago.

What a bummer :bonk:

"You may file the N-400 90 days before you reach five years as an LPR or, if eligible

through marriage to a U.S. citizen, 90 days before you reach three years as an LPR."

I was wondering if anyone else did the same?? :blink:

One advice I read here on the forums and I think is important for you and everyone else to consider:
Every case is singular and unique. I really believe you have plenty of evidences and should not be concerned.

My husband filed in April in Vermont Service Center, and like the rest of you, has not yet received his new green card. We are currently in the process of buying a house and we close next week. I suddenly started freaking out about this affecting our ability to close. Has anyone shown their foreign passport + expired green card + extension letter for something as big as this without a problem? Or does anyone have any experience/advice they can share? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I received my new green card on the mail last week, but we were in the middle of the process of buying a house when I filed, jusk like your husband.
All I was requested to present was my expired green card along with the extension letter. I'm not sure if the real estate laws change from state to state (we live in Tacoma/Washington), but I don't think this is going to be a problem at all.
Just to be on the safe side, I would ask your real estate agent. Better yet, your lender.

Only one advice: make sure as soon as you close on the house and sign the contract to go on the USCIS website and change your address. You can do it online, it's very simple.
Along with that your husband still have to file an AR-11 form to make sure they will have his new address on their master data-base.
I made the mistake of only changing the address online on their website and my green card ended up being sent to my old address and I only found out about it 10 days later.
So, DO NOT FORGET THE AR-11 form!!

Update:

Exactly as I was expecting even thou I did put in a change of address, my greencard was delivered in 09/27 to my old address.
Luckly it was sent back to USCIS and I received an email asking me to update my adress (haven't I done that already???)
Today, October 18 I received my new green card on the mail.

Again, as I was expecting, my son's green card was not delivered, not even to the old address and we were told to wait another 30 days before
we contact USCIS.
This is really frustrating since his removal of conditions was filed along with mine, in the same application.
His first green card was lost in the mail and even thou he never received it , the USCIS had a confirmation of delivery (??)
so we were forced to pay all the fees to get him a new green card issued.
It is looking like it's happened once again and I really hope that I am wrong.

If someone can please update the status on my case, I appreciate.

Hello all!

It has been quite a while and I thought I would keep everyone posted on my status as there may be someone else going through the same situation I am.
I originally sent my package in April and I had it sent back to me because I filed too early :blink:

( a month earlier to be precise).
So I waited another month and had the package sent back in on May 2nd which technically makes me a May filer but I like to think I'm an April filer anyways :yes:

I received the letter with the biometrics appointment on May 22nd and had the biometrics done on June 13th.
Meanwhile, we bought a house and moved from our old address into our new home on the weekend of July 16th.
I updated my address at the USCIS website and am still waiting for my case to be approved. :whistle:

My current case status on the website is "Under initial review" and my main concern is that they mistakenly have my gc sent to the old address or that it gets lost in the mail (I had this happen before with my son's first issued gc).

Well, guess this is all for now and I would like to please ask for my case status to be updated on the April's filers list.
