PhilippinesI was asked why does the Phils have a high incidence of scam. Agree or disagree?

The US will continue their relationship with the Philippines for many reasons. But the main one is to have a forward military presence to keep an eye on China and to police the South China sea.

"After the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, US-Philippines cooperation entered a new phase, with US forces sent to help the Philippines military combat a Muslim insurgency in the south with ties to al-Qaeda.

Then the Philippines became alarmed by a newly resurgent China, and got involved in a dispute with Beijing over who has sovereignty over various islets in the South China Sea. This coincided with President Barack Obama's "pivot to Asia" policy, and as of June, 2012, the US has been granted permission to use military bases in the Philippines once again, and a semi-permanent presence is envisaged.

So the US is back in the Philippines, but this time as an ally and guest rather than as a colonial power. It's for that friendship, as well as common humanity, that the US is now providing much-needed assistance to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan."

Philippinesbuying a coconut farm

My wife and I are looking to buy a coconut farm soon. We will have her family work on it. Really this is a gift for the family.

As far as an investment does anyone have any experience doing this?

Coconut farms have a harvest every 3-4 months. If it goes well I could get a second one to add to my future retirement income.

I was just curious if anyone here had done this kind of thing before. Thanks

Here are a couple sites with information on coconut farming.

PhilippinesHow do you view the available embassy appointments when you have on schedule?

Hi~

My fiance's interview is scheduled for May 8th right now. I want to move it up if something earlier opens up. But I don't see anything about appointment availability now that it is scheduled in. There's no mention of "First Available Appointment" anywhere that I look. I suspect that it's because there are currently no openings at all.

So my two questions:

1- Can you please tell me where should I be looking to see about appointment dates. (so I'm not just refreshing several times per day on the wrong screen or something.... headbonk.gif )

2- Will I be able to see the calendar of available days, or will I simply only see a sooner "First Available Appointment" and have to cancel my current one and then quickly book the closer one?

I'm lucky to still be with my Maganda Morena now, but will have to leave soon, so hopefully we can get this wrapped up soon. :-)

If you already made an appointment and are just looking to get an earlier date no it does not show the calendar like it did the first time you set your appointment. You will only see a small box appear at the lower left that will say the Next Available Appointment day. If there are No available days then that box will not appear.

If you want to reschedule and take an earlier day that comes available then it require you to cancel your appointment and then select reschedule. You have to go through a few confirmation pages to complete the rescheduling.

I did it but was scarred that someone else online at the same time would gab the new appointment day before I did and I would lose my original appointment. Not sure how that works but I was able to get the new date.

PhilippinesHow can I confirm that my fiance's child is included?

No the I-797 will not list the daughter.

If you listed her daughter on the I-129F she is included.. so relax wink.png.  A 2nd visa fee will be paid at BPI for the K2, the process is much the same as with the K1, after making the appointment for the K1 it will ask if you want to schedule another this is where you add the K2 for the same date/time... follow the embassy instructions letter.

(BTW passport photo of daughter is not requested with the I-129f just of you and your fiancee... as reference for others)

Thank you Hank.

Yes I completed the K1 and then the K2 online for her daughter as the companion. What I was remembering about her daughters photo was where I uploaded it online for the D160.

Kaye will be happy that everything is ok!

PhilippinesHow can I confirm that my fiance's child is included?

Hello, My fiancé is freaking out about this and now it has me worried too.

We are concerned that her 13yr old daughter was not included our visa request. I put her daughters name and information on the I-129f and included her passport style photo as well as included her on the affidavit of support.

We have confirmation of the Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application (D-160) for Child of K1 (K2) for her daughter.

The I-797 letter I received only has my fiancé's name on it as the beneficiary but not her daughters. Should her daughters name be on there to?

Am I missing something?

How can I confirm that her daughter is included with our fiancé visa request?

Thank you for your help on this!

PhilippinesPre Departure Orientation Seminar

You can get your CFO sticker (you must still take the seminar either at the Cebu or Manila locations and be sure to bring your certificate with you if you are going to get the sticker at the airport) at Manila NIAI Term 1. The request that you call ahead 2-3 days. They are open from 5am till 12 midnight - CFO NAIA desk is at terminal one.. beside TIEZA travel tax desk.. between the entrance doors with the x-ray / conveyor machines..

CFO NAIA: 632-879-5685 or 02-879-5685 or 632-879-5685

Thank you for the information. Looks like we are going to try and reserve the sticker ahead of time at the airport.

PhilippinesPre Departure Orientation Seminar

Ok Kaye will complete the CFO Seminar the day after she has her Embassy Visa Interview in Manila.

She will not be able to get her Sticker until she has her Visa in hand I guess so she will need to go back to get her Sticker.

We have some flights to USA already planned that will not give her the time to go to the CFO office in Manila to get the stamp unless we rebook.

I read somewhere here but cant find it again that you can call ahead and arrange to have your Sticker reserved for you at the airport??

I know the Philippines and this sounds impossible to actually have something reserved prior to departure.

Any info on this?

PhilippinesPre Departure Orientation Seminar

So PDOS = CFO?  From what Ema told me she did PDOS when working overseas.  CFO is for spouses or fiancees.

Ema went to CFO at 10:30am and got an afternoon slot.  Pre-registration took about 1 hour and then we went back at 1:30 and we were there until 5pm.  She went back today for her sticker and that took another half day.  We are now ready to fly home dancin5hr.gif

This is Kaye, I'm happy for both of you...have a safe flight and keep in touch :)

Seminar is held at CFO in Manila and Cebu, might as well kiss a day good by, if you get there early enough.  There is info on CFO in my link if interested.

I would not even think about that "alternate idea"

Thanks for the reply Mr. Hanky Panky. Haha Sorry just had to add thatkicking.gif Its Scott not Kaye.

Ok so its its in Manila and take a whole day? Can you do it before the interview? Im guessing yes?

Our interview is on March 24th,

Trying to figure if I should fly Kaye and her daughter who will turn 13 in 3 days a day early to do the orientation or have them schedule it after the interview.

PhilippinesPre Departure Orientation Seminar

What's up with the Pre Departure Orientation Seminar? Where is this seminar held? How long does it take and when can you complete it? Can you complete it before your Embassy interview?  From what I read its required for 12 or older?

I read a post where you can fly to a different destination other than USA and its not required but we will fly direct from Manila to USA.

Thanks for any feedback!

PhilippinesDriving in Philippines. Have you done it with car rental ?

I'd hate to see what "ambulance" service might be like if it's needed. In that video they said that about 10 people die per day in Manila traffic. Scary.

I guess I'll just figure where I want to go and hire a driver. Whenever I go back with my wife she wants to stick close to family so there's a lot I haven't explored yet that I wish I could. I'll get to it I'm sure.

Sadly there were two bombings recently in movie theaters in Davao malls where I have been before. There's a lot of bad fighting with the military and muslim extremists now on the west side of Mindanao. Davao has always been a peaceful place for me whenever I visited before. I hope the Philippine military and government can fix this situation. I've always wanted to visit the underground river at  Puerto Princesa but I may hold off on that for a year or two since that's in the Muslim area.

I rented a car in Manila and drove to Santiago City before. Rental cars are very expensive in the Philippines. Once outside of Manila is was peaceful country driving and wonderful views of open space. If the car broke down somewhere I don't know what I would have done. The rental car company said they would have sent someone for us but Im sure that would have taken forever. I never had any problems other than a huge cow kicking bucking in to the side of the car as I tried to pass by it on a narrow dirt road. It was the middle of the night and the cow got spooked by the car and bucked the rope loose from its neck, kicked the car and jumped off the embankment in to the water. Had me pretty scarred. I though I just killed somebodies cow. I got out of the car and the cow was standing on the other side river. I didn't know cows could swim lol.

Btw Puerto Princesa, Palawan is a peaceful and safe place. The underground river is over rated I think. The islands and beaches in port Barton and El Nido are worth the effort getting to and the water is crystal clear.

PhilippinesPurchasing Air Ticket for Fiance to USA before she has her Visa?

Here are examples of others who purchased tickets early and lost.

http://www.visajourn...r-to-interview/

Thanks for the link. Looks like I better hold off.

Kay's interview is on March 24th and my flight back to USA is on April 20th so I would hope they will have some seats open after she gets the visa in hand. If not I guess she will need to take a latter flight.

Thanks everyone for the quick feedback!

PhilippinesPurchasing Air Ticket for Fiance to USA before she has her Visa?

I've read way too many threads on this site with people buying their ticket early and then something happening and not having the visa in time for the flight.

Wait to buy the ticket until you have visa in hand. It will save you stress and money smile.png

Sounds like good advise but I was really trying to have the girls fly back with us. If I wait until the visa is in hand the flight may fill up and prices increase. Its not the end of the world if they need to fly a few days after us or something.

Personally I would not do bogus numbers.

Interesting that PAL is asking for the visa number and not the passport number.

Yes PAL asked for Visa and Passport info.

PhilippinesPurchasing Air Ticket for Fiance to USA before she has her Visa?

Hello, I want to purchase airline tickets on PAL for my fiancé and her daughter so they can return with me on the same flight from the Philippines to USA. Kaye's embassy interview will already be finished and the only thing that will be left to do is reserve her sticker for her visa at the airport prior to departure.

The problem is when purchasing the flights from Phil to USA they are asking for her Visa #? Since we do not have that yet would it be ok to put a bogus # just to complete the online purchase and then she will obviously show her correct visa prior to boarding?

Has anyone done this?

Be careful with electronics.

The US and PI does not use the same tv system.

Best to sell all electronics (including hair dryers and curling irons) and buy new stuff in the US.

Also, it may cost you more to ship rather than just buying new in the US.

Yep that's why we are leaving all those things behind.

"Only bringing clothes and personal items."

PhilippinesMost economical way of bringing possessions to USA from Phil?

The date is coming near where my fiancé and her daughter will come to usa and I have been asking her what she plans to bring with her. She will give things like bed, tv, cooking utensils and other things like that to her family. She wants to bring her clothes and other personal things. Im guessing this will amount to a number of additional pieces of luggage and or boxes.

Has anyone else done this and what is the most economical way of doing this? Is it cheaper to ship it back to usa?

Thanks for any suggestions.

PhilippinesPhilippine food banned by US Customs

Durian tastes good when I can get past the smell. I've only done that so far with durian imported to the USA so far. Next time in Phils will be my big test if I've learned to get past the smell though. As it is, I can tell when we're within a mile of the durian market in Davao City.

They say it tastes like heaven and smells like hell. I remember the Marco Polo hotel in Davao frisking me before entering to make sure I didn't have any weapons or Durian unsure.png

Philippineslets have some fun

Let's have some fun. I have not been to the Philippines yet. What is your favorite food you tried and what food you just can't stand yet your wife finds it funny because she loves it.

We are not married yet. We been together for 13 months. We are going to get married this year I was single for 9 years because I could not feel for any woman I met. The first time we talked I know she was the missing part of my soul. Life just was getting me ready for her and I am sometimes hard lol

So you have never been to the Philippines and you have been "together"  with her for 13 months? You have been single for 9 years because you could not feel for any woman you met? Then you "talked" to your Filipina and she was the "Missing part of your Soul"? Oh My!!

Did you talk to her on the internet or the phone or? Im curious how you determined she was the missing part of your soul.

Have you ever Met her? Most important has she ever met you?

Your post sounds a little creepy.

What does this part actually mean?

"Life just was getting me ready for her and I am sometimes hard lol"

PhilippinesHow Long After Interview to Get Visa

My fiancé had her interview on Monday the 24th and asked for the Visa to be send to 2GO in Manila so she could accomplish her CFO and get the stamp before she returned to Davao. The Consulate said it would take a few days. Well it did not come and she spent the next 4-days in a hotel worrying when her visa will arrive. She ended up flying back to Davao and will return as soon as its delivered.

You can have a seminar without your passportbut you need to come back when you received your passport because they will put sticker on it. Better if you just wait to have your passport with you so you dont need to come back. But there is cfo office inside the airport, they told me you can get the sticker there just show the receipt. Pero mas mganda mging sure n din, just wait for your passpport. Kalahating araw lang naman un.

So plano k. o nga mag attend ng seminar kinabukasan after ng interview namin, not sure kung half day lang yon kasi I have read some reviews regarding CFO merong naka experience to get their seminar done for 2 days. We will be in Manila until March 27, do you think ok lang talaga kaming mag seminar ng anak ko without our passport?

I had my interview last March 26 and I got approved! Thank you to everyone here on Visa Journey for your help. I barely got interviewed for like 3-5 minutes by the American consul. It also did not matter that my fiance did not meet the poverty guideline last year, the co just looked at his current paystubs (he didnt even bother asking for the employment letter). What a huge relief!  :joy:

I checked my case status and it says READY since my interview date
