QUOTE (guy_from_russia @ Mar 31 2008, 11:58 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
i received a receipt for n400 processing. however, i have been unable to track the case. i got the error "Case Status Retrieval Failed." Is that normal or something may be wrong? Has anyone had that before?

US Citizenship General DiscussionWhat is the best way to get status of the case from USCIS?
Hi to everyone!

I have noticed that some people were able to get the status of their case. USCIS web site and 800 number is not that helpful to see how things are moving or not moving. I would and I am sure many people would appreciate your expirience of getting updates from USCIS,

Any comments and sugestions are welcome yes.gif

US Citizenship General Discussion* in aaplication number
QUOTE (richie894 @ Jul 17 2008, 05:28 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My application number is WSC* (followed by 9 digits). Does anyone else have an asterix in their number? I can't pull the online status up. It is not recognized if I use the * and if I dont, there are not enough digits.

I filed about 3 months ago, so it is possible that the website is not updated with my case yet. Although I did do my finger prints about 6 weeks ago.

Mine was up on-line at USCIS website right after I got fingerprints. But now I have other problem they do not give get into my portfolio. I am getting error that User ID or Password is wrong. I was using it for a long time I would never forget it wacko.gif Have fun with USCIS, you never know what expect!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)NVC Checklist for Packet IV
We didn't get the IV packet. We waited and waited, and when my husband called they were like 'oh yeah, go ahead and do that' (meaning, get all your stuff together and send it in). So, yes, it is normal. Just follow the checklist from the website to put all the documents together. Good luck!

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionbest way to present papers at consulate?

Hi,

I'm preparing all the documents to send to my fiance for his interview. I was wondering what the best way to present the information is? What forms will the consulate keep and what forms will you get back? my lawyer prepared all the forms and put them in two giant brads that hold everything together. However, this seems a strange way to present it unless the consulate will keep EVERYTHING you give them. It's hard to take things in and out of these brads. Is it better to use an accordian style file folder? or a binder? It seems to me like these would be better because everything is separated but it's easy to get the things in and out?

What have other people done?

I am using binders- punching holes through some papers and using file pockets for more important docs/originals. I organized all paperwork according to the packets with which it was sent (I-130 packet, I-864, IV packet, etc...). Everything else is in the catch-all binder with tagged dividers. I like the binders 'cause you can easily add/remove things. I decided against the accordion style folder- I was afraid things would start falling out and get out of order.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview but a question
Nobody really asks whether you've got a visa that's canceled. The officials are interested in the DENIED visas, and that's a whole 'nother story. Don't sweat it :)

Philippinesembassy and income

Does the embassy base the income u have now or does the last few years really mean alot on there discision to give visa?

Not long ago they requested all the tax info to be submitted for the last 3 years. Now, they reduced it to just one year. If your financial situation all of a sudden got worse, you can use information (along with the most recent tax year) from previous years as support evidence to show some stability. But you still have to meet the 125% poverty requirement in your last year.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsDMI or SVO transfer
My personal preference is Domodedovo, although the latest news is that it is owned by an unidentifiable foreign entity and the Russia has no real control over its operations, including security (heard this info just yesterday on the news). Other than that, it is more comfortable than Sheremetyevo, which seems to be stuck in the stone age for as long as I remember it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsfirst thing that you gona do with your wife when she here in the us
First, show her where the bathroom is :)
Then, go to the store to see if there's any food that she's used to. Buy as much of that, and only little by little introduce new foods. Avoid processed foods at first because the standards for additives in processed foods vary by country, and the allergic reactions might be severe. I know supermarket is not the most romantic destination, but it's a good idea to do that to avoid some more serious problems later. Better be extra safe, even plain water can be difficult to get used to.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPLEASE IS THIS TRUE

Hello
Pls be patient and pls be cailm. I know this is hard and it is like I am asking alot.
Please know this is no joke and no prank ok it is Ghana, I pray and hope you have made copies of your case.
It just might show up sooner or later ok, so pls dont sweat it. This has happened alot in Ghana. It has happened to many of my friends.
Your wife needs to type up a statement of what happened and get it noterized, make a copy of the copy case record she has and send one to you. Call the US embassy in Ghana and you call yourself or go there during the time the local people of Ghana can go to the embassy. Talk to them about what you can do, they might request you send them your extra copy of your case with everything you have. Also call NVC and see if they can help you and what they say to do they do have records of everything as well.
Dont panic and dont give up, it might just be on the desk of someone or be in a box still. Please you are not the first at the Ghana embassy to go thur this. They will help you. I say again be patient.
and i am sorry you are having this now.
God it with you.....
So is your VJ family
never stop smiling this tow will pass, ok

I think you misunderstood. The case has not made it through USCIS. The NVC and the embassy don't even know the case exists yet. Like folks on here suggested, call USCIS and ask them about the status of your case. Good luck.

It took us 2.5 weeks to hear from them (counting from the day NVC actually got it). Unfortunatelly, what we heard was not interview info, it was a request for more information from us :(

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhere the name "Packet IV" is coming from?
It's called an IV Packet because it contains an Immigrant Visa (IV) application form, also known as DS-230. Whenever prompted, you simply download and complete the form and mail it to NVC along with the necessary civil documentation (you can find the list of these docs on the NVC website).

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresApparently we didn't wait enough

"Waiting period" is a misnomer. If your case is complete, they're just stating the maximum time it might take to here something more from them. Generally, it only takes a few days before you get your interview date. The interview will likely be in June and any day in June is as probable as any other weekday.

Thank you!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresApparently we didn't wait enough
So, after waiting for 20 days for NVC to review our response to their checklist for missing docs, we get the following message "Your case was completed on April 27th. Please allow 8 weeks for further instructions". So, basically, we waited for 20 days to be told that we need to wait more... What does NVC need these 8 weeks for? Why couldn't they just inform us of the entire (20 days plus 8 weeks) waiting period right away? I was under the impression that when all is well they just schedule the interview. I understand that this is not life or death situation, but some light shed on this subject would really help me. I about to loose it.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCase Closed...now what?
Our case was 'closed' April 27th, we are still waiting. I posted not so long ago, asking questions similar to yours. The message we received said it was going to take 8 weeks and I was asking the forum folks whether this was a realistic estimate. I got the answer saying it was going to take 1-2 weeks to schedule the interview. However, I am not sure where people get this information. And I have no idea what form of notification you will receive. There should be a letter from the embassy, yes, but I don't know whether there's anything NVC sends on their behalf.

We called Friday, and they said to call back Monday. I keep thinking something is wrong because it's been over 2 weeks since our case was completed. Thank you for your reply, though- some of the info is obviously different from what I'm used to hearing. Good luck with your interview!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAny IR1/CR1 folks from Russia with interview in June?
My case was NVC completed on April 27th, and I've been guessing (based on what I've heard from folks here) that my interview would be some time in June. Well, the NVC scheduling period for May is now over (first 2 weeks, right?), and I haven't heard anything. I'm just trying to see if anybody else with a similar timeline is also waiting... this is a torture

When you say 'they' (those who told you that you needed a co-sponsor), who do you mean? According to the 2011 guidelines the 125% for the household of 2 is $18,387 and it looks as if you were well above that. Perhaps, I am not understanding something here.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAny tips on communicating with NVC by phone?

FU

Point is this person needs to learn some patients. The NVC told them to wait 8 weeks for further instructions and 2 weeks later they are frustrated that they have no interview date. Most likely the date will be given to them very soon.

It's spelled 'patience', and I know a lot about it. Please, don't be rude to those who actually help.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAny tips on communicating with NVC by phone?

Hmmm, I think "Gosia and Tito" gave some good suggestions. Most wanted to extend their sympathy, and there were few jerks as usual. If you don't have a suggestion or you think this question is not relevant, don't waste your time reading the thread. Some big idiot seemed surprised that it took 5 months to prepare the AOS without even asking why??? Basic common sense to those who has rocks for brain, when it comes to individual choice, personal level, you can do many things that don't impact others, but when it comes to an official work, there has to be a process. May be you are not familiar with the term accountability. When it comes to NVC, they are not beyond the law and there are some rules and process in place, which could be out of your understanding. And for those wise mutts, the people that answer your phone do not start working on your papers after hanging up. If you ever worked, you would probably know that different people are responsible for different tasks.

So if anyone thinks that the operators are rude, this is my suggestions; once the operator picked up the phone, tell the first "if you don't mind, I am going to record our conversation" and then politely ask their name, which they usually give. Let me know if this doesn’t work? By the way, do actually record the conversation. And if you feel you were insulted, embarrassed or humiliated, or the operator sounded derogatory, please pass this to any newspaper with the name, or talk to a lawyer.

Thank you for your response. I did take some of those 'not so helpful' previous comments to heart and got pretty upset. I didn't expect that from people who know damn well that this forum is not just for information, but also for support through basic human empathy. So, thanks again for taking time to say what you did.
As for recording the conversations, yeah, that's something we should've and could've done. Thanks, again :)

Wait a minute. It took you 5 months to submit the AOS packet but you are pissed that they cannot give you the interview date 2 weeks after they finished processing it?

We had to wait for the 2 year HRR to be fulfilled. And I am not expecting something unrealistic. My expectations are based on what I know about other cases here.

I want to know what they are waiting on in regards to our case, i.e. why won't they schedule the damn interview. Also, if they see that the interview is not something that will happen soon, why can't they say something like 'there's no way you'll get an interview in June, the embassy is too busy', or 'we bet money on how long you can live apart before you get a divorce', or 'you better try yourself at gardening'.... i don't know, I'm so frustrated. Thanks for responding to this post. I realize it might seem trivial.

Ok, this might sound stupid but I need some advice on how to talk to NVC reps to get ANY information out of them. From reading VJ members' posts, I get the feeling that they are way more informed regarding their cases than I am. When my husband calls, he gets either some rude, uninformed b**** or somebody, whose vocabulary is limited to a couple of words... short ones. What do you guys do? Is there like a case manager for each particular case, and you can talk to them? Is there some supervising entity? Are there certain questions that you need to ask in order to get some info? Gosh, is there some secret dial tone handshake? OMG, totally loosing it...

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresBarcode's
My understanding is that the barcode sheet needs to be on top of all packets, including I864 and DS230. NVC asks to include it, stating that it speeds up the process of getting the info into their system. For us, the NVC included the barcode sheet in their correspondence to us, and instructed to return that sheet with the packet to be sent.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedurestotal cost of CR1 Visa from beginning to end
You are going to have a $70.00 fee (for Affidavit of Support Processing fee). Then a $404.00 Immigrant Visa Processing Fee. As far as the NVC fees go, I think this is it. Then you have to count in the medical (in my country it's close to $150), the DHL fee to have your visa mailed to you after the interview, and of course the visa fee itself (check the embassy site). Also, don't forget the travel/hotel expenses for when you go for your medical/interview. I think that's all. If not, somebody correct me, please.
