Hi,

Just to add my 10 cents worth

RFE Email 06/20

BTW I also got the email from Vermont 2 times...strange but YEAY! can't help feeling happy that i finally have been touched and things are moving again. I hope that the other service centers get their act together too, i am thankful my application is at Vermont with their speedy reputation but i know i could just as easily be dealing with one of the others so..fingers crosses for everyone now

United KingdomHas anyone got a police report in less than 40 days?
From the many other posts on this topic i think you are in for the wait. I applied yesterday. I wont be holding my breath. It seems 38/39/40 is the usual. Its almost amzing-what do they do? set a timer and the when the alarm goes on the 36th day print the paper and send it 2nd class????? It can't be that hard!

United KingdomMEDICAL APPOINTMENT
Hi,

Well done for getting one more thing done.

I have to add i was encouraged to go to my GP to get the shots for free and having faxed the evidence of this in, everything proceeded well. However, I didnt recieve the vaccination form through the post after the medical. I had to chase them for it. Maybe that was an oversight due to the fact that it wasnt all done on the day (just a theory)

The eye test is an interesting one too. I have contact lenses i had an eye test less than 3 months before the exam and the Dr told me i should have another one my eye sight was a borderline fail!! I had another one last week and was told my eyes are fine. I do think the eye test was a bit dodgy.

Although my medical went fairly smoothly i still maintain that £160 is daylight robbery for the sevice they give!!

United KingdomWedding Dresses On Planes
Hi, thought you might like an update.

Got to the airport, saw big check-in queue. Virgin guy saw me. At this point i should mention i was clutching my purse and brown envelope, had a 2m ski bag, huge suitcase and precariously balanced on top, my very obvious white wedding dress bag. He took one look at me and took me to the nearest empty check-in desk where i was immediatly checked in with no mention of my oversize and weight luggage.

Then another Virgin girl asked me if that was a wedding dress. We had a breift conversation about whether or not it would be let through security and then she decided to personally escort me through, just in case!!! I hid my envelope and bag inside the dress cover and we went up to security. The Virgin girl did all the talking, and i was then walked through security-no questions asked.

On the plane, the stewards put the dress in the tall cupboard in First class.

I (L) VIRGIN, no kidding, gold star for customer service. I highly recomend them.

This is a good point. I am planning to take it on a plastic hanger. I will ring Heathrow to double check. Thanks for that thought.

Thanks for your experiences. Very helpful. I am going to take it in its cover and try to find a decent checkin clerk. Fingers crossed!

OK, i have to take my amazing wedding dress with me when i fly next week. Virgin helpfully tell me it is up to the disgresion of the people on the desk on the day as to whether i will be able to carry it on board in its cover to hang up for the journey or if i will have to scrunch it into my suitcase NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WAY!!!!

I was wondering if anyone has tried this or has any thoughts on if they will let me? I am hoping for a simpathetic person. My back up plan is to take minimal carryon and a box the exact largest size that hand luggage can be and if they say no, to roll it carefully inside, carry it on and try not to cry.

Any thoughts?

United KingdomLondon Interviews 2006 (NEW)
Oh No im soo sorry to hear this. My interviewer on Monday was American, Male with a smart blue shirt. He was very nice. Asked about my fiancees previous marriage and about his profession. I was required to show NO evidence and he didnt even ask when we met. I thought it quite strange...but good, especialy when he said it was all in order!

I hope that you get this sorted out very soon. Dont let it stress you out, there is really nothing you can do, you'll have it before you know it.

United KingdomMarrying in USA, then settling in the UK - HELP!
Hi James,

There is no answer to how long it will take for a K1. If you look at the timelines at the top of the page you will get a good idea although your indivdual case may take less or lore time. You will not be able to plan on a wedding date to be relied unpon becasue it is so unpredictable. In my opinion it is a lot of time (maybe 4,5,6months+) effort (patientce and heartache) and money (at least £300) to be wasted if you apply for the K1 just to leave again.

Not to mention if you want to bring Kelly here to the UK you will need to go through the whole preocess again. We have a fiancee visa or a spose visa to be arranged too.

I'm sorry i can't be more specific, im not really in the same boat as you but i would say have a read through the timelines and guides on here. Refer the websites of the US and UK embassies and maybe try a post in the UK dedicated forum to see if anyone else knows more.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhy so much?
Yodrak

The cost is £65 i read on the London website. It may be that the confusion came as the exchange rate is constantly changing. The exact cost is $119 as of today. I now just double everything so $130 was my estimate. Better to overestimate slightly than underestimate. Especially as i havent included the costs of taking a day off work and travelling to the embassy! I am lucky to live in London as travel in the UK is very expensive.

Thanks guys,

Especially for the projected costs of AOS etc. Its good for me to know as i am in a similar situation to L&L. I'm out of collage and have been working sporadically. My boy and I met travelling and have been eeking it out together for the past year. Thankfullly we have a good co-sposer!!

$600 isnt a lot to some but for us it represtents a significant save so its good to plan ahead a little. I will just concentrate on the happy future and start saving.

Thanks again

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhy so much?
Hi All,

Firstly thanks again for all the help i recieved on this site. I am writing mainly because i just discovered that on top of the $170 we had to pay for i-129f i am to expect to pay a further £10 ($20) for police reports, £65 ($130) at the embassy and £160 ($320) for the medical, in London this is.

This is more than $600!! I am already in a state over the whole IMBRA mess and on top of the costs of travelling to be together AND condicting a relationship where when we are together only one of us can work, this is just one more thing that i didnt need.

Of course being together is priceless, but come on. This on top of everything else is just SOOO unfair. Why why should we pay both financially and emotionally for falling love?

Sorry for the rant, my question...are there any more hidden costs i need to budget for?

Thanks,
Jess

PS FYI Applying for K1, through London

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNew I-134
Hi,

Trying to get ahead with my packet3 forms. I seem to remember reading about a new I-134 form. I have searched but as there is some volume of topics on I-134 i cant find anything i read before.

I remember it saying something about July 21st change and the old form being valid only until October. Is this the case? Is there a whole new form or is it just the requirements for evidence that have changed, i wish my memory was better!

Any help gratfully received.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHow long is I-134 good for?
Hi,

Is this really true. I mean what dwar49 says. Can your co-sponser send the documents direct to the embassy. Mine wants to but i was soooo worried that they were going to lose them and delay our case that i just told her to send it in a sealed envelope to me and that i would trust that it was all correct.

She is a distant family member. Happy to help but i know it is a matter of embarassment to her for me to see all of her finances layed out like that.

What do we think? Trust London Embassy to match up the case and the affidavit and not mess up??? Or go with an 'in hand' delivery for luck!!

Cheers!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMy fiance received Packet 3 from the London Embassy!!!!!!!
Thats exactly how i felt it was confusing at the first read and mine was a stapled together in a weird order. But read it again...and again for luck and it becomes a bit clearer.

It does have step 1,2,3 etc on it.

In Summary: I first filled in the forms. i did D-156 online, it doesnt say do it but i actually mucked up the paper one and so went online (NB you need a printer)

I also did the otehrs online because i was in the flow

It says which ones to send in imediately D156, D230 P1, D156k and D157 (if you are male) ***I THINK BUT CHECK***

The next steps explain collection of documents like passport, b cert, police report, divore papers affadavit etc etc

It then tells you to make a medical Appointment (and at the back how to)

And finally it asks you to send back the whole checklist. I sent all the forms in together with the checklist-as i have collected the documents already. I have kept these back to take to the interview.

Obviously i dont know if what i did was right but that what i did so i hope that helps!!!

Good luck as always to everyone x x

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionUK Police Certificate
I did exactly the same thing. Forgot my Uni address. I phoned up Subject Access as the woman in the police station said it would delay my report. They said dont worry about it. Its just a formality to write down the addresses!! There are no addresses listed on it apart from your present one and mine came in 32days.

Hope that helps

Pheww Thanks for the words of support. Actually a lot calmer now. In fact its not so much the email from the consulate, its more Royal Mails crappy attitude that has made me nervous. It is good to know that is the standard responce though.

Again thanks im feeling better, time for a glass of wine!

(PS It almost 8pm here in the UK im not starting too early!)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionLONDON HELP!
Hi i am going crazy im virtually in tears

I sent my checklist and forms back over a week ago as you can see from the timline in my signature. One week later i sent a follow up email

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing as I sent my K1 Visa checklist and forms last week. They were signed for at the embassy on Tuesday 15th August. I have also had my Visa medical. As all the paperwork is subitted, if you could confirm firstly that you have received my papers and secondly when i can expect a interview, I would be very grateful.

Many thanks for your time,

I recieved this in return

We have no record of having received the forms to which you refer. However there is a delay of 6 - 8 weeks between the date the forms are received by the Embassy and the date in which they are processed and entered on to our system. As soon as the Immigrant Visa Unit has received the forms and completed any additional processing on your application you can anticipate receiving an appointment date for an interview within approximately 4 weeks.

Royal mail said it was delivered on 16th (although i paid for next day delivery!!! What a joke) But they can provide me with a signature til next week because they dont have it. The guy was very vague and didnt leave me feeling like it had been received at all, there was no superviser to talk to and guess what when he pit me through to Customer Services to complain...I was CUT OFF!

Oh god, is it possible that it is lost somewhere or is this a stock answer the consulate sends. Surely over a week after it was received there should be a record.

Someone help please, i have been keep my cool up til now but now im soo upset!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresName Change

J&C,

I think you misunderstand something - the passport needs to have a total period of validity of at least 5 years from date of issue to date of expiration. This is not the same thing as saying that the passport has to have been issued at least 5 years ago.

US passports are typically issued with a period of validity of 10 years, but in some circumstance a passport with a shorter period of validity may be issued. It is a 'temporary' passport, issued for a period of less than 5 years, that cannot be used for purposes other than travel.

Yodrak

HI,

My Fiancé changed his surname about 10 years ago to the name of his stepfather for personal reasons. This means that he has a birth certificate in his old name. I read that to use his passport it has to have been valid for at least 5 years which it hasnt (only 3 yrs).

So does anyone know what we can do. Is it sufficient to include a copy of both his birth certificate AND the document outlining the name change?

Many thanks
J&C

just re-read it, yes it seems i that i did!! Thank you for clearing that up for me though.

Hi,

Firstly, i have just registered but have been looking on this site for a while and i wanted to thank you all for the information that you have available here. Its soo helpful and encouraging to know that we are not the only ones in this situation!

Anyway my questions for now-
1) should i refer to my country of citizenship as United Kingdom or Great Britain (this one alway stumps me at immigration!)

I ask because I would use United kingdom but in my passport under 'Nationality' it says 'British citizen'

2) When should none and n/a be used. Do all the boxes have to be filled??

Many thanks,
