K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVSC Phone System
Thanks for the info. Such an obvious thing that I completely missed! I called and of course got the standard run around. The lady was very nice but said I can only tell you what's on the website, nothing more, go by the posted processing dates, unfortunately we're back logged, BLAH BLAH BLAH!!! When I explained to her I was frustrated because people that filed after us were getting approved she said, "well I can't believe that's true because applications are processed based on receipt date and in the order in which they were received. Just because people are posting that they've been approved doesn't mean it's true". OKEEEDOKEEE. Thanks alot for nothin'!

UGH!!!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVSC Phone System
Hi everyone. I apologize if this is a duplicate post. I followed the instructions that were posted on how to call and get to an officer at VSC. HOWEVER, when I get to the point where I have to enter my 10 digit case number, I enter it and it says "I'm sorry you haven't entered enough digits" So I try again, I get the same message and then it thanks me for calling USCIS and hangs up on me. Anyone else having this issue?

Thank you!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAPROOOOOOOVED!!!!!!!!!
Good morning. My attorney received an e-mail from the consulate in Rio yesterday that said if we go the K3 route it will take about 2 -4 months between the paperwork getting to NVC, then to the consulate in Rio, and then the interview. The consulate schedules the interviews for the K3's. If we go with the CR-1, it will take about 4-6 months for the interview and NVC shedules those interview dates, not the consulate. We'll see how long it takes and whichever one is faster, that's the one we'll go with.

Have a great day!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAPROOOOOOOVED!!!!!!!!!
As much as I would like to go the CR-1 route, I think we're going to do the K3 because it will get him here sooner. It appears that for the K3 it will be 2-4 months til the interview and with the CR-1 it will be 4-6 months. Could potentially be a difference of 4 months. I'm not willing to wait any longer than I have to. Yes, the advantages of the CR-1 are appealing, but I miss my husband and I want off of this emotional rollercoaster!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI-134 House Value
I did read the instructions, but I didn't see anything about leaving out assets if you're above 125% of the poverty line. The I-864 clearly states this, but I don't see it any place on the I-134 instructions. Can you point it out to me?

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI-134 House Value
Okay - I know that this was already posted somewhere, but I can't find it. Can you tell me if I have to take proof of the value of m home to satisfy the question on the I-134? Do I have to do another appraisal or will they just take my word for it? My income is plenty above the 125% poverty line for a family of 2 - so will they even care?

Thanks!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresLetter from NVC
Thanks Renata. The letter I got was about the I-129f and I have the RDJ case number in the letter. I will call the consulate today. Do you happen to know the number? If not I can find it I'm sure.

Thanks again!
Jen

Hi everyone. I got a letter from NVC yesterday saying our K3 paperwork would be forwarded to the Consulate in Rio de Janeiro this week. They gave us our consulate case number and said my husband would be receiving a packet from the consulate shortly. There was also a bar code in the middle of the paper.

Does anyone know how it works in Rio in particular? I read some place that they just assign you your date and you bring all documents with you the date of the interview. Is this true and if not is there something I can send in ahead of time like the DS-230 now that we have a case number to speed up the interview assignment date?

Thank you!

Jen,

if you are pursuing with the K3 simply ignore that letter from NVC with a barcode. If you pay that you will be pursuing with the Immigrant Visa (CR1). Just let the I129F arrive in Rio de Janeiro and they will schedule your husband's interview date.

Since my husband and I decided to go with K3 he ignored that letter and our case (I129F) was forwarded to the Rio de Janeiro Embassy and I got my interview date. Shortly after that, I received a packet 4 and 3 (instructions).

Yes, they especifically tell you NOT TO SEND ANYTHING ahead of time, just bring all documents to your interview.

Call NVC and talk to an operator. Give them your I129F case number and ask for your RDJ number. - Just like that.

They will give you a RDJ number (it's RDJ2008..... something). With that RDJ number you can call the Rio de Janeiro Embassy from 1:30pm to 3:30pm (Brazilian time) and talk to someone there. They will schedule your husband's interview date over the phone.

That's how it went with me.

Good luck! star_smile.gif

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresBrazilian Post Office is on Strike!!!!
Hi Renata. When I called NVC they said they put several petitions in one package, so it's possible that Deyse and I were in the same package. Let's hope. You're right, we're almost there - I think that's why it's so frustrating at this point. I'm hopeful that we'll get good news this week. I'll let you and Deyse know as soon as I know something.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the upbeat words of advice you guys. I hope you're all correct and this will end soon.

Renata - how is it that you track packages shipped from NVC and their arrival at the consulate? NVC wouldn't give me a tracking number.

Thanks!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresBrazilian Post Office is on Strike!!!!
I can't believe this is happening to us, BUT our I-129f petition left NVC on 6/27/08 for the Rio de Janeiro Consulate, after waiting nearly 8 months for approval. It still hasn't arrived at the consulate because the Brazilian Post Office is on strike and it won't be delivered until the strike is over. The Consulate tells us every time we call - "it won't be delivered until the strike is over" - WHY ME?!!!!! I remember stories about the Canadian postal strike where bags of mail were lit on fire and thrown in the river...... Let's hope that doesn't happen!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAny tips for maintaing sanity while in the visa journey process?
My husband and I just celebrated our 2 year anniversary of when we met. Our I-129f and I-130 took around 7 months to approve and our interview is August 28th. I had many days where I thought I was never going to get through being away from my husband and one simple thought always got me through: I always thought about all of the families who are separated from their family members because their family members have gone off to war. Many of those families spend longer amounts of time away from their loved ones than we do, and they don't know if they're coming home alive. AT LEAST we know that we WILL see our loved ones again and that they are safe. All of a sudden the wait time doesn't seem so bad...... Just be grateful that you are loved and that you are all safe. The rest will fall into place.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresK3 packet after approval at Rio de Janeiro
Good morning. I have e-mailed the consulate and can only call between 1:30 and 3:30 Rio time. So as soon as I can call I will. I spoke to our immigration attorney and she too speculates that my husband will have to return to Rio with the packet and have it repackaged. I feel bad for him because it's a 7 hour ride each way to Rio! We're so close, yet so far away!

This too shall pass...... smile.gif

Thanks for your response.

The outside of the envelope is written "Customs inspection open here" It appears that the passport is inside this envelope.

No - the passport isn't anywhere we can see it, but by squeezing the envelope it appears that it is inside.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresK3 packet after approval at Rio de Janeiro
Hi everyone. My husband was approved for his K3 visa at the US Consulate in Rio de Janeiro on 8/28. He received his packet in the mail today from the Consulate, HOWEVER, it appears that his passport has been put inside the sealed packet that we aren't allowed to open - the one that can only be opened at the border by Customs and Immigration upon his arrival in the US.

Is this normal? How is he supposed to travel without his passport? Did someone at the Consulate make a mistake? I'm so confused! Can anyone shed some light for me?

Thanks!

At the risk of sounding harsh, and I don't mean to, please don't take it that way, but I think if you're even considering throwing in the towel then your heart's not in this. The VSC abyss is no place for the weak spirit. Give yourself a pep talk and get your spirits back up. Only you know if your relationship is worth it....

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestion about DS-156 and proof of relationship
We had our interview for the K-3 visa in Rio on 8/28. I went with my husband, we waited nearly 5 hours, the interview lasted 7 minutes, we had 6 binders full of evidence and they didn't ask to see a thing! Not even one picture - but I shouldn't complain because we were approved.

As far as the DS-156 you fill it out once onlie and print 2 copies, or print one and then make a photocopy.

As far as originals vs copies - I don't know what to tell you because they didn't look at our stuff. For what it's worth though, we took copies of some stuff and originals of others - it just depends on what we had available.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresInfo on DS 230 I & II
I just took a look at the guides and it says documents not in english or in the language of the country where the application for visa is being made (Brazil = Portuguese) need to be translated. Therefore, if you had documents in Spanish or Arabic they would need to be translated, but the consulate is equipped to handle English and Portuguese.

QUOTE (Gisele @ Jun 27 2008, 06:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I read on this website http://travel.state....ml#certificates and it says that all documents not in english MUST be translated. What i want to know is does can the translation be a copy or does it have to be the orginal
