In our packet, there was two sets of instructions for doing this and they varied slightly with each other, but from us they are getting signed copies of my tax returns even though they were filed electronically as well as a notorized letter from me stating that the tax returns are exactly as they were filed with the IRS.

Having your co-sponsor send a notorized letter that the returns are exactly as they were filed with the IRS should make them happy. Your co-sponsor may also want to include a notorized letter stating that they are aware of what they are doing and that they understand what is required of them.

So what is a person's A Number?

Where is it located? (What letter, etc...)

What is it used for?

How important is it to have this for our visa interview?

My 15 yr old son lives with my husband and I, should I have him do an affidavit to remove my husband's conditions. I have four affidavits, but was wondering if one from my son would be good to do. Shaun is his step-father.

Would it be too much, would it not be legally binding since he is under 18?

My husband and I have 2 joint bank accounts, a few joint bills, and some joint purchases with department cards, but he is not on my mortgage nor did I add his name to the ownership of the house.

Here is my dilema:
I was divorced in 2002, but did not refinance my house to remove my now ex-husband from the loan. I did remove him from the ownership of the house. In 2003 I filed for bankruptcy. (I was left with a house payment, car payment, all the bills, both kids, and ####### for child support). This has pretty much screwed my credit and with 6.25% interest on the mortgage, I would be nuts to mess with the loan. Shaun and I were married in March 2006. Even though we could probably refinance now, I doubt we would get 6.25% and I only have 4 years left on the loan. As for not adding him to the ownership of the house, I was protecting myself and my kids. If it did not work out, I could loose my house and I can't do that to my kids. Even though I love Shaun completely and I know this is going to work, I have not changed it.

So here is my question:

Do I write a statement explaining all this and include it in the evidence or do I just not say anything about it?

I want to send this off tomorrow. Please help.

We went the other way and got the K1 Visa before getting married, but on the question of the lawyer; we did not have one and did not need one. I think the majority of people do not need one. However, you have to be organized and detail oriented. Do a lot of reading and attempting to read between the lines. Immigration is relatively straight forward, but there are definitely gray areas. The forms are relatively easy to fill out, but there are many of them. Evidence and information, you will have to collect no matter what path you choose. One thing that saved me is I have Adobe Professional, so I was able to save the forms as I went along. There is other software out there that will do the same thing and is cheaper than Adobe though. Another thing to take into account is the cost of the lawyer. Immigration its self is not cheap.

Whatever you choose to do, stay calm, and worry about one step at a time. We have all been there and no matter how easy it truely is, it will rack your nerves to no end.

You have made a wise decision to join VJ. The wealth of knowledge here will help you in so many ways.

We received the first NOA for the I-751 yesterday. The notice date is 09/02/2008. I tried to get a status and it said it was an invalid receipt number. I got logged onto my account and tried to add it and it kept telling me the same thing - invalid receipt number.

How long does it take before you can add it to your profile or check the status online?

There is a regional office here, should I make an Infopass appt to discuss this?

I have tried capital WAC and just wac. No dashes, just WAC08########, where # is the rest of the numbers on my receipt.

My husband is not on my mortgage or my house. I thought about writing a statement as to why, but was told on here not to. Basically, "If it does not provide proof, then don't include it." I did not include it, nor did I include the phone or cable bills, because although in both names, only my name is on the bill. I did include 5 affidavits and I recommend that you include them with your packet and not later, unless you are running out of time to mail the application. If that is the case, mail the application now with the $$$, collect the evidence, and get it mailed off shortly after you receive your NOA. Remember to include a copy of the NOA with anything additional sent in after the application.

There are many ways to show joint tenancy besides mortgage and house ownership.

Although very easy to say and very difficult to do, remail calm and tackle one thing at a time.

My husband got his NOA yesterday too. We sent it 8/29/08, they signed for it 9/2/08 (not bad considering it was Labor Day weekend), the NOA was dated 9/2/08, and we received the NOA 9/9/08. So now the waiting begins........ and continues......................

We sent ours to Cali (CSC) and I even though I had the old form ready to go, I did and sent the new form that came out 3 days before I mailed it. It is always good to check the website for updated forms and information, although you will hear it here just as quickly.

I am a US citizen and I have been treated horribly more than once entering the US.

First experience was 4 hours long and absolutely horrible. Then some good and easy experiences, then some not so good. I went snowmobiling in Canada and was coming back. I really had to go to the bathroom when I got to the crossing because for 40+ miles there are no bathrooms and no place to really pull over. They would not let me go. They went through everything in the truck, ripped the covers on the snowmobiles, took the pipes off them, and more. After two hours of begging to use the bathroom, (NO LIE, 2 hours) I told them to let me go or I was going to squat right there, they threatened to arrest me, I told them it was no longer a choice. I offered long before that time for them to go with, leave the door open, watch me pee, whatever, they just made me sit on a hard plastic chair outside and watched me squirm while they went through everything. They never found anything, there was nothing to find. After telling them it was going to happen no matter how hard I tried not to have it happen, they let me go. I insisted on dealing with my sleds and my personal items which were all over an outside table and on the ground outside. It was truely a horrible experience which has left me with bladder control issues.

Since this time, I have learned to be matter-fact and not submissive while still being pleasant and courteous. They have been reminded that we are people just like them and they are not Gods. I have become friends with a few Border Patrol personnel and I know the laws; if necessary, I can remind them of the laws and give them a number to call.

What is really bad is I work for the Government, they had my Government ID, and more and I was still treated like this.

Someday, hopefully, someone will set some laws and rules as to how they have to treat people.

We sent our app directly to CSC, also received on 9/2; NOA dated 9/2, received 9/9. We also have not received a biometrics letter. I went for an Infopass appt last Friday. They just did the biometrics right then. I have to take a copy of the letter in when I get it though so they can make sure they have the biometrics attached to the correct case number.

However, our case has a supervisory hold on it for some reason. The local office is looking into it today and is suppose to get back to me on it. Did you by chance send a Cashier's check?

I wonder if 9/2 was a bad day. (The day for holds and special checks of all applications or something)

Still no word and still the Supervisory Hold on our case. The guy should not have given me his number. I plan to call weekly until I know why there is a Supervisory Hold on our case or until we get the biometrics letter. Maybe I will try the 800 number and as to speak to a supervisor there as I am certain the guy that answers will not have an answer.

It has been 31 days and no Biometrics letter yet. So I made an Infopass appt and we went in today to ask why. They told us they could just do the Biometrics at that time. Not what we were planning, but no problem. So then he is looking up our receipt numbers and pulling our info up on the computer with us standing right there. For some reason our I-751 has a Supervisory Hold on it, he said he would investigate and let us know what was up. I need to take a copy of the Biometric letter into him when I get it so that he can make certain that he has the fingerprints attached to the correct receipt number. He was really awesome.

I am concerned about it, however. Anyone have this happen to them? Does anyone know what a Supervisory Hold is? Why would it stop us from getting the Biometrics Letter?


FYI - I did a calculation of times between NOA1 and Biometrics Appt and it varies from 20 to 40 days on average. I made the Infopass appt because at 30 days, we don't even have a letter yet.

I know this is the Government, but these days that is no longer an excuse. I would like to know why USCIS is so different from other Government agencies. I work for the Government (State not Federal) and we are consistantly updating our online content to provide the public with better access to our data. USCIS has kept people in the dark for years. I could understand if I could not access my water rights or something like that, but they are talking about our lives here. They have no excuse. The only one that I can think of these days is that they consider the public unworthy of knowledge and that they are above everyone.

So how do we go about changing this fact? Without getting deported or something? I think they like to keep us scared of them?

We just gave my husband's employer a copy of the NOA1 that extended it for a year. When he gets his 10 yr green card, we will give them a copy of it.

I am pretty certain that the employer is legally required to have a copy of the green card on file, thus allowing them to ask for it at anytime.

So you have checked this case number before and it always worked? Did you set up an account for the case or are you typing it in everytime?

You know that you need to use the Receipt Number from the Biometrics letter. The Receipt Number on the NOA1 does not work for the online Case Status for an I-751. The Biometrics Receipt Number is considered a CRI89 Number.

I very much agree about it being more personable. The RFE should be online, even if they just post the generic text with it. It would be really nice to have exactly what they feel is missing for the case.

I don't think that we will ever get the person's name and especially their number that is working on the case.

I thought the US Government was suppose to be "of the people, by the people, for the people" and "that all men are created equal". I just do not understand why immigration and border crossings are not held to this standard, not even for the US citizen.

I am sure I will not see change during our journey, but hopefully in my lifetime.

Just going to throw this out there for some thoughts, compile the results, and attempt to send it off to someone at USCIS that cares.

What would you like to see on your Online Case Status?

Besides Approved.

I would like to see a list of everything that has been done with my case. A list of Events. For example:

Received ............ Date
NOA1 Mailed ........ Date
Biometrics Mailed .. Date
RFE Mailed ........... Date
Interview Mailed ... Date
Approved ............ Date

And I would like see the current date of applications being processed for that Service Center. For example:

Currently processing Applications Received on Date

With today's technology this would be very very easy. They just need to dynamically create pages from current data. I still cannot believe that they update the service center pages monthly instead of doing them dynamically.

For those that are not in the know of creating web pages, dynamic web pages are created on the fly from data on the system. This page is dynamic. When you add something, it adds it to the background data and then recreates the page from the background data.

So what do you want to see on your Online Case Status page??

Our NOA1 was dated 9/2/08. We still have not received a biometrics letter. We did an infopass appt after 32 days. I tried calling to no avail. They did the biometrics at the infopass appt and he was nice enough to show us our case status on the system. It had a "Supervisory Hold" on it. No idea why unless it was the cashier's check. He said he would have the supervisor there look into it. We did however get the number for the CRI89 as the NOA1 number is not accessible online. We still have not heard anything and it has been 72 days since the NOA1 date. I have called the guy several times and called the 800 number. The last time on the 800 number I whined enough that he gave me to a supervisor who at least activated the CRI89 number so that I could see the status online. It showed a last updated date of 10/27/08 which is about the time he activated it. My husband is not worried, but I am concerned.

For those that do not know, the CRI89 number is the receipt number on the Biometrics letter. The NOA1 receipt number does not work online, only the CRI89 number does.

At 2.5 weeks, I would not be overly concerned. At 31 days, I would call or better yet do an infopass appt.

You need the receipt number from the biometrics letter. She was correct about the I-751 not being accessable online. However, the I-751 is also known as CRI89. That receipt number is accessable online and is the receipt number on your biometrics letter. If you do not have the biometrics letter, call and ask for the CRI89 receipt number.

You need to file an I-751 within 90 days of the expiration date on the green card. You should include all the evidence requested, but you can file some of it after you send the application. It is best to send it all with the application though. Don't wait on sending it in until the last day, get it done ASAP.

You do not do any biometrics, just your husband. They will send a notice that they received your application and then send a biometrics letter (hopefully) for the biometrics appointment. The receipt number on the biometrics letter can be used to track the case online.

Do some research on here as to what to send. There is an awesome cover letter example. Organize it well and according to how they like it. You need everything joint since your marriage. Bills, etc... can be one copy for each 6 months.

Thought many would find this interesting. I calculated the number of days between Mailing Date and NOA1 Date, NOA1 Date and Biometrics Date, and NOA1 Date and Approved Date.
