On April 8, 2013, your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was scheduled for interview. You will receive a notice with a time and place for your interview.....

Hello everyone!

So glad that things are moving along for so many of us. I needed some advice

Hubby needs to visit his mother who is ill and would need to travel outside the country. He is planning on April 20-May 04. But we didn't want him to book the ticket and then get a letter for an interview scheduled within that time frame. Additionally, we found a great round-trip fare but it is not a deal that will last long. Should we book his trip?

If your husband must travel, then I would book the ticket, however I would have someone check the mail and once the letter is received to call and reschedule for emergency reasons. Or make an info pass with your ticket in hand and explain the situation, they may issue him an interview before traveling of after. I recommend to do the second one first.

I say book it as well since family comes first before anything but keep in mind that rescheduling the appointment MIGHT delay the process. Before you do anything, make sure whoever checks the mail to open the interview letter to see if the interview date is before May 4th or after. If it's before then you might want to reschedule (it might delay the process) otherwise don't reschedule as your husband will be in the United States on May 4th anyways.

We did not get a yellow letter so I'm not sure...

When I read the yellow letter.. at the end, it said something like .. REMINDER: Bring this notice with you. (which is the yellow letter)

Did the IO (Immigration Officer) not ask for the yellow letter at all on the day of the interview?

yeah , I got mine yellow letter requaired me to bring ID/DL from state .. and also letter that prove I did selective service system..
anyone have similiar case like this before ?

Will you bring your ID/DL with you to the interview OR will you bring everything including passsport, green card etc to be in the safe side?

But that also means they did not forget your application.

I send two application along with mine as one bulk and for that reason I always thought that, that might be the reason for the delay until today, when my letter (to bring the required documents) came and not the other two, heh.

Cool! I am also in LA and waiting. I've been in line since March 15.

That's by all means doesn't guarantee that the interview letter will be arriving soon. It basically means "IF ANY ONLY IF we decide to disclose the interview date, make sure you bring the listed documents with you" ...

I wouldn't be surprised that Los Angeles is a bit slow due to the population.

With that being said, I just received a letter stating that I need to bring Green Card and Driver License at the interview date (which hasn't been disclosed yet). :thumbs:

Here is a question for christen and FlipgalRN, once again congratulations on your and/or your husband's interview...

Do they skim through each and every section of the N400 with you on the day of the interview or just ask you important question based on what you wrote on the N400 such as how long you been outside of the United States (if any) and if it was business or pleasure etc. The reason I asked this is because I misplaced my passport while I was relocating stuff around.. I do remember the exact month and year of the trips taken and how long each trip was BUT not the specific date that I've recorded.

Have you checked USCIS case status website for any movement .. https://egov.uscis.g...s/Dashboard.do? I was placed in line for the interview in couple of days after the fingerprint. I did mine in Fairfax & La Brea, was there at most 7 mins.

I just wanted to share my interview experience with everyone. So my appointment was at 10:00 but they were running late so I wasn't seen until 10:30. At the time of checking in they gave me a package for applying for my passport and said that I could bring it with me to my oath ceremony to apply that day. The IO started with swearing me in and proceeded to go over all my info to make sure it was correct. She had me sign my pictures that I submitted and asked about my work as an RN. She also asked about any memberships that I belonged to and I said I didn't belong to any but she reminded me that I am part of the California Board of Nursing..oops! other than that everything went smoothly.

As for my Civic questions the ones that were asked were:

What ocean is on the west coast?
What is the rule of law?
Why does the flag have 13 stripes?
What is the minimum age to vote?
Who was the first president?
What the name of the national anthem?

I was told to write "We have 100 US senators." and to read out loud "Why do some people want to be American citizens?" (or something like that) So with all that being done she said congratulations and that I passed my interview. She also mentioned that in a couple of weeks I should be receiving a notice for my Oath ceremony. As for my husband's interview he was asked about his driving tickets and luckily we had the records from the court of his tickets being paid for and his record from the DMV. They told him they would have to review the records and send him the decision but said there shouldn't be a problem with him being approved. Hoping if all goes well we should be citizens by the end of April.

This calls for commemoration of important occasion, I bet you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

As I was looking at the last updated table I saw my InLineInt field missing/dropped, so I went to do some digging around since it's a weekend and will probably take me less than 2 minutes to find the culprit who was messing up our table. Of course I just can't tell you who it is without explaining how I got there.

According to post #404 I updated my InLineInt. In post #406 user by the name of poups68 posted his/her update along with the January 2013 applicants table that reflected his/her update but neglected to copy the table from the last person who updated the table which was me #404 but instead used the table from post #392 by Keigwyn, which Keigwyn was correct at that time since lala_xoxo posted about her Interview update on post #393 followed by Yeehaw fingerprint/InLineInt on post # 39.

With that being said, I see few things that was missing or dropped since my last updated table (#404) and that is as follows:

1. lala_xoxo Interview was missing
2. Yeehaa Fingerprint and InLineInt was missing

The next post that used the table was post #409 by FlipgalRN who used poups68 table and other people thought that FlipgalRN's table was up-to-date and therefore that's how we got to the problem we see right now.
Post #421 by lala_xoxo reaffirm that her update was dropped (due to poups68 error) and added her Interview date back.

PLEASE USE THE TABLE BELOW FROM HERE ON OUT AS THIS ONE REFLECTS THE MOST ACCURATE ONE.

I am using the last updated table which is post #434 and just added my InLineInt back up and Yeehaa's fingerprint and InLineInt back up and also fixed the format. (Since lala_xoxo already added hers back)

Interview DONE and he PASSED... Recommended for approval.

Arrived at 1 pm for the 1:30 interview.mer were about 100 people checkin in on the other side of the room for their oath (lady at the check n desk said that they do them 2xs a week and the usual wait time between interview and oath is 4-6 weeks.

He got called in at 2, the guy was a ver serious type of guy, my husband was a bit tense. He asked 6 questions (first president, where is the Statue of Liberty, who is governer, what was the civil rights movement, responsibility of citizen, and 2 us holidays)... Super easy for him, and the sentence he wrote was "Washington was the first president".

Then he proceeded to go through every question from the application and seemed to stress "have you been involved with criminals, did you pay taxes or ever evade taxes and several time what is your wife's name, how do you spell that." My husband said he asked these several different ways. He was polite but very serious and my husband gets nervous sometimes. He asked about my husbands job and how much he travels and if he finds that hard (which he said yes but the money is good) but we have been married for 10 years so we are used to crazy life.

But in the end all ok and we passed. No additional paperwork was asked for (we brought stuff) we are goingmtomitaly end of April so the interviewer made a note and said iit will either be scheduled for mid April, or mid may when he is back...

So whew! All good... Time to party (although he has to leave for chile for a job tonight) soma solo party!

Hello everyone!

I got my Bio Appointment Notice in the mail today. It's scheduled for 06/13/13. I have not yet received my Permanent Residence Green Card from USCIS, so I am going to try and take my expired green card, plus the original of the Approval Notice, plus a copy. I really hope I can pull it off. I will keep you posted. Please update the info on my appointment? Thank you so much!!!!

Make sure you take your expired green card, a proof that your new green card is on the way (after renewing it) and everything else you should be taking with you and you should be fine.

Hi everyone ...
Just had a quick question. Not sure if it is going to make sense but ill give it a shot.
I was wondering about the letter notifying the applicant of the interview. I noticed that the interview can be anywhere around 3 months after the application is submitted... I was wondering if the letter comes closer to the interview date or if we get the letter soon and the interview is scheduled for 3 months later?
I hope my question makes sense! Lol
I'm asking bc I just want to know if I should just relax for the next few months and not check anything daily or possibly look forward to something new in the mail soon!

That really depends on the office, usually takes _around_ 1.5 months from the time of Biometric Fingerprint to 3 months (or even longer). I live in Southern California (but nowhere near Orange County, CA; more like West Los Angeles) and it took me exactly 2 months and 6 days from the time I took my biometric fingerprinting to the day of the interview.

You don't have to keep checking for anything daily because there is a service over at USCIS website where it allows the applicant to register for automatic case status updates by e-mail and text messages by simply creating an account.

URL: https://egov.uscis.g...d/CaseStatus.do , make sure you click on "creating an account" between the two boxes (Your Current Case Status and Processing Times), you can register for text message only or e-mail only or BOTH.

Here is an SMS message from USCIS on my phone to give you an idea on what to expect, mind you if you choose the text message route it's a generic message which means it's not dynamic to suit your specific case other than your case number, to check for more info you need to head over to their website:

The time you get your Interview appointment letter is usually anywhere from couple of weeks to a month and a week away from the actual appointment day, to give you ample time to attend the interview day, if however you cannot attend for whatever reason you can always follow the instructions on the interview appointment letter.

Hey thanks for all that info ... I'm curious how someone would fail the interview? I remember when I did mine like 15 years ago I didn't get all the questions right but the interviewer helped me out and was nice about it bc he could tell I was nervous. Is it a failure due to questions or a failure due to issues with the applicant's file?

Combination of both. People fail because they didn't study for test as much as they wanted to, nervous, doesn't speak fluent english and issue with applicant's file such as missing documents that wasn't readily available at the time of the interview.

Matter of fact, I had to call in USCIS 800 number last week and the person on the other end was like "...Congratulation on passing your interview, the test is not easy as not everyone passes the test"... I didn't reply back. It happens and you'll be surprised.

Good luck to all, dealing with USCIS is never easy if your not prepared but it is well worth it at the end.. I'm January Filer and we still have few people in process.. to give you an idea, we have 37 people in January Filers, 17 people already got their US citizenship (that's almost 46%), 15 people are in the last leg of the journey (waiting for oath ceremony or already been scheduled for one) (that's almost 41%), few abandoned the thread, 2 failed the interview and 1 reached the 90 days mark with no status update/change.

How fast your case moves really depends on your location, some might be lucky and some might not. Average processing time for all states is 5 months but that doesn't meant your case might drag you as far as 5 months but that's is common.. I have seen people who received their citizenship after 9 months (this usually happens when you got arrest/charged/felony record). The fastest we had in our thread was 3 months and few days. Hopefully I will get my US citizenship few days shy of the 5 months.

Most painful in my experience is the waiting.. and the waiting and the waiting.. don't we just want to get this done?

I also live in west Los Angeles, so would my oath be at L.A.C.C, too? I checked out the January thread, I see what you're saying. I'm currently in line, looks like those are usually scheduled a month later from the in line date, or so, although I did see someone who was scheduled 2 weeks later. It's interesting to see people who filed at the very end of the month be approved before people who filed first of the month from the same service center.

Your oath ceremony will most likely be in L.A.C.C. but that's not a guarantee, the reason I said that is because a friend of mine who also lived in West Los Angeles was scheduled for an oath ceremony in Pomona, that's like an hour away. This was 6 years ago.

Your interview location will most likely be @ 300 North Los Angeles St, Los Angeles, CA 90012

Oh wow, how does one find out when and where oath ceremonies are taking place? Good luck to you, I hope you get in to the one closest to you. I don't think I'd mind driving far to get this all over with as soon as possible. lol

BTW I could not get the format right I don't know if it's my computer but for the life of me I couldn't get it right. my EB date seems to be sticking out and going to the next line. Can you see if you can fix it, please? thanks.

If you look at January filers me and another user where both of our field office is in Los Angeles, we both sent our package on the same day, I waited for the Bio exact date while the other user went for EB, he lives in East Los Angeles while I live in West Los Angeles and we both have our oath ceremony on the same day. It took us exactly 148 days which is roughly 4.8 months.

Another user in January filers whose field office is also in Los Angeles stopped participating after his last post which was 05/01/13 for his interview.. The next oath ceremony after his interview was on May 23rd and if that was the case then he completed his journey exactly 140 days which is roughly 4.6 months. If he missed that oath, then the next oath ceremony would have been on June 26th then it would have taken 174 days which is roughly 5.7 months.

With that being said, I would say give it close to or at 5 months.

Haha.. sorry I think i didn't explain it properly. We don't want the whole process to be done by that time, just the fingerprints. If we can get the biometrics done before the end of July, that is all we need. haha.. sorry, I didn't mean to seem OVERLY hopeful. haha.

You have to call up or go to the check/cashier check/money order issuer, request the status of the check/cashier check/money order as they are the only ones who have a record of the transaction. (Some require you to pay a fee to check, this is specially true for USPS money order).

I think Tara is hoping for the biometrics to be scheduled before her trip overseas and not necessarily complete the naturalization journey.

A lot of the April filers received the biometrics appointment within 30 days of sending their applications.
My estimate, depending on how busy your ASC is, it will probably be around July 12-16, 2013

One can certainly leave in the middle of the N400 processing but it's not recommended as it is not the norm and it can go as far as jeopardizing your process (which I doubt) so I was assuming Tara was hoping to become a US citizen before the family wedding trip.. we will never know which assumption is right until Tara speaks out!

Adding Kandy_MBT, Hasan123, fixing your formatting again.
The problems with the formatting are found where the new people are added. Probably the info is added by copying and pasting the information from the new poster's message, or new users are selecting their own style of font when adding to the timeline. Don't do that. That makes it funky because of different fonts, etc. Then when someone else comes to add to the timeline, everything looks like a timeline that's gone mad. When you locate the spot on the timeline by chronological order for where you're putting the new filer, copy and paste the filer's timeline that's above. and REMEMBER TO CHANGE THEIR INFORMATION to the new filer's. and please recheck to make sure you haven't deleted anyone else's information.

THIS. THIS. I vote for the instruction to be moved up rather than it being at the bottom. I usually fix the issue and not report at all but that can get tiresome at times when you see people doing the same thing again and again. Hehe.
