I'll be joining you in AP/AR in Cairo in another week sad.gif

No matter how long it lasts, I haven't heard of a case going through Cairo without it. I do think there might be a few people on the MENA threads with interviews in 2006, but I know there are also several from jan-march 2007 and later.

Keep hope, you aren't refused yet, and as long as the husband/SO isn't a terrorist blush.gif you will get the visa eventually (haven't heard of a case being refused after AP/AR, just really, really, long wait times)

Good Luck Deb and Ali good.gif Hopefully you will get some good news soon...

Finally!!! and they made us wait and suffer longer than we should've. I am a little bitter about the whole ordeal because it was difficult watching others that had applied the same time as us get approved months ahead before us. I was even discouraged to see someone apply to the same country as us, a month later than us. and at the same servicing center as us, get approved before us. I hope you all have the strength and love to endure this. It makes me cry that I have been without my loved one for so long. So many things have happened in the past 9 months that we each had to do alone. Without each other. We can never regain that time lost and yes I am bitter about the whole system.

So this whole journey was a bittersweet one. The Visa is approved and he will be here shortly. I am very happy knowing that.

I wish all of you swiftness in your case and I hope your's doesn't end up as paperwork clutter on someone's desk like ours did.

Congratulation's! May you live long with your loved one.Dont dwell on the time lost reveal in your future together. good.gif

Who else is waiting since 2006 or even before that? I always feel forgotton on this forum because people are worried about having to wait for 6 months or 3 months. I am sure that there are more people waiting like I have been. And please dont give me the advice that I should contact people to help. Trust me I have contacted everyone that I can. The problem with Senators and Congressman is they can only do an inquiry on your file. I can do my own inquiry. Also anyone from MENA- has anyone successfully claimed descriminination and won that anyone is aware of?

I have not seen him in 22 months and i can't afford to see him right now if i could i would have by now for sure. Everyday that goes by i pray that we hear something soon. Almost 8 months on A/P and we have no idea how much longer it will be. I told my love today that it would be such a wonderful birthday present for me if he got his visa on my birthday which is December 14th and i am hoping we hear something by then. I am sorry to write all this i just had a really rough day today i know that we all encourage each other to stay strong because i encourage alot of people on here everyone on V.J. knows i am always the one with encouraging words but today i had to encourage myself to believe, and pray this horrible nightmare will be over soon so that we can start our life together. It is not like we are doing anything wrong all we want is to be with our loved ones, I just know god never gives us more than we can handle but i have my days where it seems like this is all a dream. This process is definetly designed for people who are truly inlove, dedicated, patient, and who have found the right person. I THINK IF YOU MARRY IT WILL LENGTHEN THE PROCESS. MY SO HAD HIS INTERVIEW A YEAR AGO ON THE 14th OF NEVEMBER. WE HAVE BEEN IN A/P EVER SINCE. I THOUGHT OF MARRYING IN ANOTHE COUNTRY AS WELL. Deb,

The good thing is there was a response other than AP. At least they took the time to actually make a statement to the congressman. When mine contacted Cairo, they got the same canned response as I always get.

Ahmed asked the same thing about the home visits. He has not had any yet. We were wondering if every family gets them, or they just single out individual cases. This would be interesting to know.

It is 9 months of AP for us, and this whole process just drives you crazy.

Take care,
Sue

Dear Sue, I'm sorry to say but our case has been in A/P for 14 months. They have responded to my congressman in the past with the pat answer of "your case is in A/P. You'll be notified when it is completed."This time my congressman contacted the DOS. They (the DOS) contacted the embassy this time. And security was the explaination this time. This process is making me and my SO crazy. In march it will 2 years since i applied for my SO. But they say nothing last for ever. Let's hope this is true for this process as well. I hope you get good news soon. Debbie

Deb -

I know your man is going through Cairo and mine is going through a different country, but your latest info sounds similar to what the DOS info line told me last week. They told me that his name has been submitted for security background clearance. In our case, the consulate has asked for a "follow up" from the various agencies (FBI, CIA, etc). Some, but not all, agencies have cleared his name.

Since our govt doesn't have a centralized name clearance system, the names (especially those subjected to some higher level of security clearance) are submitted to various US agencies -- I wonder how many --- who all must clear the name.

I'm sorry. No one can predict if an end if in sight. At least your congressperson's office got a response.

We are 9 months into name clearance and it is driving me crazy.

Ann

Good lord. What is "vetting " anyway. But dont you think it could involve the FBI or CIA?

Main Entry: 2vet
Function: transitive verb
Inflected Form(s): vet·ted; vet·ting
Date: 1891
1 a: to provide veterinary care for (an animal) or medical care for (a person) b: to subject (a person or animal) to a physical examination or checkup
2 a: to subject to usually expert appraisal or correction <vet a manuscript> b: to evaluate for possible approval or acceptance <vet the candidates for a position>
— vet·ter noun

I had to look it up. lol. blush.gif

If it's in Cairo then no it's not the fbi or cia. Did they say it's in Cairo or at the state dept? If it was the fbi or cia it would make more sense since who in cairo would do this vetting when they already have the police report?

Thanks for definition. They did not say if it was in Cairo or the USA or the DOS. But your right , he did give them a policy report and he was finger printed. But to our knowledge they have never done a visit to his village. They have neve had or asked for a home visit. So do all applicants have to have a home visit? He has only had 1 interview. They have had his passport all this time because they said he could either take it with him or leave it with them. He decided to leave it with them because they said he would hear from them in 1 month. LOL how silly of us to have believed that one!

That is odd. They ask the visa applicant to submit a police report so why on earth would they need to have vetting by law enforcement agencies done? Seems rather redundant to me and since the police probably have absolutely no incentive to complete the deed in a timely manner that totally sucks for all of us. I mean at least if the applicant were to ask this to be done he/she could put in a bribe, as usual, but I doubt the consulate offers bribes.

Middle East and North AfricaSHOULD MY HOPE BE RENEWED?
Well heres the update and question. We have been A/P since 11/14/06. My congressman contacted the DOS in Nov. 07 to inquire what this long delay was all about. Just got back the reply. The letter from Cairo embassy stated that our case is pending the required "vetting by security and law enforcement agencies." They regret and are aware of the many inconveniences this has cased my SO. They are not able to predict when the clearance will be completed because other agencies do the clearence. They hope and trust that the outcome will not be delayed much longer. " Not much longer" holds no real meaning to me , because after the interview they told him he would here from them in 1 month. To date he has never heard anything. How long can " vetting by security" take? They "assure us that the clearance is in the hands of the appropriate agencies."This is the first response that has indicated any concern for us at all. Usually it just says the case is in A/P and we will be notified when it is completed.Dose this indicate that a end is in sight? How long can this take? Any thoughts? Afraid to hope, Debbie.

Yes i agree and the more inportant fact is that the process is broken. I'm not sure how much help extra people will bring when it is the process itself that is wrong. These cases go through multiple hands and agencies. It hard to even find out where the actual case physically is. If it's in security it could be with any number of agencies. If in A/P God only knows where it is.! It 's outrages that we are treated in this fashion.

I thought so too but I that is what the email said that I got from the consulars office because that was my understanding as well but I guess they worked it out.

Dear I love Ashraf, I was in Cairo in July of 2007 and at that time the embassy did refuse to sign any affidavitl. Are you saying they now will or you think they will? Because as late as July 2007 that was the reason Americans could not marry in Eygpt. They refused to sign the affidavit that the Eygptian government required.

Middle East and North AfricaSECURITY CHECKS
Well guy's, this is the question. How long can a security check take? Some where between November 2007 and January of this year our case moved from the dreaded A/P into security check's . I called the FBI in Washington D.C. in a attempt to find out if progress had been made with the finger print portion of these checks. I was told they dont have his finger prints. They also said they dont recieve all the finger prints for checking. They said there are other agencies that do this also. Which ones could this be? Could it be Eygpt doing them? Or Interpole? How long can security take anyway? Any ideas? Wondering, Debbie
