Hi everyone......I live about 20 minutes outside of Washington, DC and just got back from my Congressman's office......It actually was interesting.....the liason with the USCIS called the Vermont Center and found out our case is with a case worker since November 1.....they said that because of the length of time they have been taking to process the cases that they are having to do an extra security check on the petitioner(from Noa1 until now) to make sure I have not committed a major crime or something......Also that our age difference......I am older then Oscar makes our case a red flag case for fraud........I know that earlier in the forum someone asked about that and they do consider that......I said the the liason that more older woman are dating younger men now and she said her husband was 10 years younger then her....but he lived down the street from her not in another country were someone has the right to scrutinize the relationship.......So I at least know they have it on someone's desk.....Oh please God say yes.....Lora

Do you live in MD side or VA side? If it is MD, what is the name of the Congressman did you pay visit?

Hi Omizo...I see your in Maryland like me....so perhaps this will help....

I live in Northern Virginia.....Congressman Wolfe......they were very very helpful.....I will always vote for him now

Im right down the road from you...right below Fredericksburg....cool

WoW...that is great.....I live in Bristow....and filed June 6 so you are right behind me........It makes me feel so much better to know you guys are so close........and can unerstand how I feel....thanks......Lora

Awesome, I am in Manassas. Hello neighbors

I used to live in Gainesville but got out of there before the congestion became unbearable. Now I live on my farm and work from home. No more traffic! kicking.gif

We were APPROVED!!!
Holy Moly, no touches, nothing. Just an email this morning that an approval letter was sent on November 4th. November 4th, since when do they work on Sunday? Who cares, I have the email and the USCIS website was updated to reflect the same thing.

Those of you counting, USCIS received our application on June 8th and sent our NOA1 on June 11th, touched us on June 13th.... a long 5 months of nothing and then an NOA2 November 4th. kicking.gif

Lots of congratulations!!!! kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

Here's hoping the rest of your journey is short and swift. good.gif good.gif

Byron and Mirla, Keep your chins up. After all the activity this week, you are bound to make swift progress.

Byron, I understand the frustration and drain on the pocketbook. When faced with the prospect that there was NO way Honey ko and family would be here for the holidays, I booked a flight over to Philippines. It cost $2,000 with me using frequent flyer miles to San Francisco, $2,350 without. It will be worth it to spend the time with my remote family. Its also a change since I'm giving up spending Christmas with my family back here (sibs & Mom). Its the first time in years since I've not spent christmas with them and Mom being 82 (healthy, thank God) makes it even more frustrating.

Here's hoping that after the weekend's rest, VSC turns on more steam and churns things out the way they used to.

Ohhhhhh Mirla,
I'm sure that Pat knows what a "touch" is, but he's probably not thinking about the same thing as you. At least, USCIS isn't what I think about when honey ko mentions "touch"es. devil.gif

Anyway, I'm sending lots of good wishes and hopes for you from here. I think its your (and B-L's) time. good.gif good.gif good.gif

If I lived closer to VSC I would organize a protest outside their building. Captain Ewok and a few other members did that outside TSC a few years ago and got good results! They had big signs with names and waiting periods listed. Check out his profile...he has pics. Very cool!

ETA: I would also need more vacation time, a car that runs better and someone to watch my kids in order to make that protest!!!

I'll be up in VSC area for Thanksgiving visiting Mom, who lives 1 hrs car drive away. If anyone wants to do any thing on Friday 11/23, please let me know.

Ummmmm, it might be fun, but the REAL potential is that the fighting will be carried from that site (which is less moderated) to this one. Especially if things get nasty over there. I'd hate to have to wade through exponentially more Trolls to get the value from VJ.

Just a thought.

I have to wonder just how many of you are actually doing anything besides coming on VJ and ranting?

Don't take that to be an insult, I just wonder.

I have only been waiting 3 months (not quite) and I have sent out probably around 5 or 6 letters to important people. So far, I've had one returned (That'd be the Aguilar one) and one reply from one of my Senators.

My father, the cynical man that he is, says he doesn't think writing any politicians will help because I'm just one person in a very big country, and while I will not give him the pleasure of agreeing with him, he is not completely off base.

If only a couple of people ever do anything...the system cannot possibly be completely overhauled for the better.

I strongly encourage all of you, especially Mirla to find ways to write in to these people. Let your voice be heard. Nobody will ever know you're in trouble if you don't admit that you are.

Just my two cents, halfway between Bill y Bella and everyone else I think.

Wait, let me get this straight in my mind. I am on one side all by myself, you are in the middle and everyone else is on the other side? Seems a little out of balance. I hope the forum does not tip over. laughing.gif

As to your question that mentions rants, I am a little offended despite your disclaimer. To rant is to speak violently or vehemently. I do not feel that is a fair description of very many posts in this forum and it definitely does not accurately describe mine. Just because a post is not positive does not make it a rant.

I do understand your point about people needing to take some sort of action if they are not satisfied with the status quo. Personally I would like to see us bombard the ombudsman and the USCIS director with a ton of emails all asking the same question. Why do employment based visa petitions have greater priority than petitions for family based visas from US citizens? There are other problems with USCIS also, but I think that question goes to the heart of the problem.

Definitions of rant on the Web:

harangue: a loud bombastic declamation expressed with strong emotion
bombast: pompous or pretentious talk or writing
talk in a noisy, excited, or declamatory manner

A rant is a widespread and distinctive phenomenon of emotional speech or writing usually consisting of complaints or attacks, sometimes in a political nature. Rarely, rants express great praise, defending an idea or a person from attack.

Hi, question about the reporter US Wendy - is the last name Brulliard? Got a message thru VJ that a post reporter wanted to talk to Washington area filers, like me. Am talking with her trw. Any suggestions?

Also chocolates still in process. They won't due a special order for us, although I am not the greatest slaesman so anyone else is welcome to try. If we order off the shelf and put in our own messages all we need to do beforehand is get our press coverage in order. maybe I'll ask the reproter about that trw.
So still looking for anyone with more info on the press release subject, I guess I'll start googling the subject too.

Finally, funny story, in a gallows humor sort of way. I got an email today good.gif but it is from manila embassy in reply to an email question I sent them 4 MONTHS AGO about an item on my I129! YIKES

I'm a Washington area filer, living in Vienna, VA. If she's looking for others suffering through this dreadful process, feel free to PM me and I'll give you personal contact information you can give to him/her.

would there be any issue, re the chocolate, about them not being allowed to accept food gifts from unknown origin? that might sound absurd, but I've heard of it before :?

The point really isn't for them to enjoy the chocolates so it doesn't matter. It's to make a statement.

Actually, StillThePrettiest has a valid point. There can be issues raised with the ability to "accept" the gifts if it exceeds a token amount, I believe being $25. I work with a lot of military and Federal folks and they get this drilled into their heads so much that it can become comical, especially when a group goes out to lunch or dinner.

That having been said, you've got 2 choices: Send them something big that forces them to throw it away/return it (Imagine Washington Post Headline "VSC discards tons of Ghiardelli's while children die of starvation and Loved ones remain separated".

OR

send them LOTs of little packages, to as many individuals as you can identify. Too bad we couldn't find out employee names, accumulated from those who might have had contact with on phone or (somehow) in person.

As an airplane is about to crash, a female passenger jumps up frantically and announces, "If I'm going to die, I want to die feeling like a woman."

She removes all her clothing and asks, "Is there someone on this plane who is man enough to make me feel like a woman?"

A man stands up, removes his shirt and yells, "I'M APPROVED BY VSC!!!!!!!!!!!!".

Thank you so much … there was a days which I use to cry infornt of the computer seen people who Failed on July and getting approved same month … I was like that is so unfair for us for each one of us here who has been witting … that use to depress me so much , and to be honest I didn’t find any answer why was that …. Even though this people NOT a Military member , or they are special case ..

Been in a military it doesn’t change or even make different in your case …and if you guys look at my time line …. That is 125 DAYS … so where is the it shows that we been approved earlier because we are a military … and to make you even feel better he just got back from 6 month deployment and guess what he might be sent any time soon and we chose not to use this to get us approved faster then anyone here because its not fare for everyone failed before us ,

So am really sorry that we got approved earlier then some of the guys here believe we don’t know why and we have nothing to do with it .

Plus am really happy right now I got to get married to my man and spend sometimes with him before he get sent back for another deployment ..

Am praying for all of you guys my thoughts are with all of you .

Absolutely for real? If you've got that confidence, I'd love it if you'd pass some insight along. Heck, I'd be happy to buy you and your SO dinner on that bet and enjoy it most if I lose.

I was hoping that honey ko and family would be able to join me in US for Christmas. I'm only 2 weeks behind you, but with the level of activity at VSC I'm riding on the "waiting for a miracle" train now. Even if they got here mid-january (off by 3 weeks) it's probably be ok, since my fall back plan is for me to travel there for a Philippine holiday. And it might give me the chance to attend the interview with her.

Either way, I promised her we'd spend the holidays (her b'day is 22nd) together.

Hey folks,

For all those who want to have been through NVC and want to try to track their application package to the embassy, I posted this.......

http://www.visajourn...showtopic=98172

Its based on some information that byron-leidy shared with me, and I tried to refine into something people could work with. If its WAYYYyyyy too confusing, let me know and I'll try to clean it up.

Of course, it is intended for ONLY those among us who are the most controlling and ####### retentive, and can't bear to let things get out of our sight now that we've been through NVC hell.

By the way, I called NVC last night and they told me that my application has been shipped to USEM (Embassy, Manila Philippines). That meant it was only in NVC for 2 days.

Thanks for finding this information! Even though I'd already called and got a confirmation from DOS that it was rec'd in Tokyo, this was nice and interesting to look at. Sure would've been nice to see something like this from CSC & NVC since they temporarily "misplaced" my package after it was approved in Oct. Thanks again for your hard work good.gif

Yep,

When I called NVC, I specifically asked if they could tell me the shipment number, but they nicely said no. Its too bad, as it gives people the chance to get on-going information, even if its just for a little while. After what we have to go through with USCIS and NOA2 processing, its nice to be able to see a little progress.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJune and July Filers - NOA2 to NVC
Hi,

I just got off the phone with the lovely people at NVC. We got email notice of NOA2 on Nov 20th. NVC says that they've already received the application and they've entered it into the system. The lovely lady I spoke with said I should call back on Thur & it'll probably have been sent. Very helpful people there, even if they are hard to get ahold of.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsATTENTION JULY FILERS!
QUOTE (KGSodie @ Aug 17 2007, 04:53 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I have no idea where I actually entered the following originally, but here in this thread was my intention!

I don't know if anyone would be interested in the information, but I've been working on some tools to 'mine' the data on the USCIS site. It's all public information, after all, and I've been curious how many petitions get filed each day, and how many are I129F petitions.

I have the code all done but the USCIS has thrown me a curve - they have monitors in place that check how many requests are coming from a given IP (or possibly gateway), and they 'shut off' access for 2 or 3 days if you exceed whatever the limit is. There is a flood check for a short duration, and after I slowed my requests down (one lookup every 15 seconds) I hit a longer duration monitor that also shut me down.

So my next try will be to slow my code WAY down (maybe one lookup every 2 to 5 minutes), but I have already determined that the average number of petitions received by the California Service Center is around 4000 (or more) (my code has a binary search component that can determine the number of petitions in about 14 searches). To determine which are I129F petitions (or any other type) I have to query each individual petition. Once I know which ones are I129F, I log the numbers so that I can watch for status changes on subsequent days.

So if I query 1 case every 2 minutes, it will take 8000 minutes, or 134 hours, or nearly 6 full days. And that's just to locate the receipt numbers for a single day. To scan all of July (our filing month) will take about 117 days (21 fiscal days in July, or so)! I would eventually like to give this code to VJ so they don't have to rely on users to input timelines, and they would gain access to a ton of more petitions. I have already contacted VJ and they are interested - if I can get it to work.

Why do all of this? Because I can, and I want to. It's an interesting technical challenge. Would there be anyone out there reading this who would like to donate some of their computer time? I could provide you the code (it's written in python) along with the instructions, and we could split up the days in July of 2007, in order to locate the petitions we're interested in.

I've also requested of the USCIS that this data be made available in an off-line form so I don't have to query it online so slowly. If they agree, and I'm not holding my breath, then this would all be moot, but I thought I'd see if there is any interest, other than my own!

I was also intrigued about this and did a little experimenting on my own. I didn't realize that you could enter ANY sequence of codes into the USCIS website and it'd pull up the information about that application. I'd be careful about asserting that it is "public information", but clearly based on the way the USCIS contractor has coded the app its "publicly accessible".

An idea that occurred to me might be a workable alternative and spread the effort as thin as it could possibly go, while spreading the workload among those who would benefit the most. The idea would be to code the executible process as an applet that would execute when VJ users access a common location (e.g. VJ Home) or function (e.g. Calculate Timeline). The applet might do a small number of queries of the USCIS website and pass the retrieved information back to the VJ db where it would be stored, mined, and tabulated.

The key would be to make sure its implemented in a fashion that passes IP of the executing system (VJ user) rather than the applet source (VJ server) where the code is located and data is stored. I'm sure you'd figure out that you'd have to implement a queue to store numbers and state (e.g. initial query, follow-up query), as well as checking to be sure that those given to process actually executed to completion. You could also schedule the work queue based on common sense heuristics to establish priority (e.g. more important to determine TYPE of app, not likely to change within days after changes).

I'm sure the VJ Commander would want to see it all tested, but might be willing to provide statistics on potential places where the applet might run from. This could give you an indication whether the theoretical method would work. Another key would be to make sure that the applet execution wouldn't slow down VJ User access to the VJ site. That would just be annoying.

I'm new to this party, but I thought I'd check in. After blazing off the starting block, I'm in the dreaded "wait" mode (Why won't you even TOUCH my application?)

Sometime in the last few days my adjucation estimate jumped from Oct 10 to Oct 25. That's not *terrible* but I'd LOVE to get beyond this first gate (looking for NOA2). We're hoping to spend Christmas together here in the states. She's never seen snow and I'd love to show it to her.

ps: Her b'day is just before Christmas, so wouldn't that be a lovely gift? :-D

I just got off the phone with NVC, and the woman told me our case had been forwarded to London already!

...What now?!

How can I track it? Can I even track it?

It is difficult to track without DHL's tracking number. However, it normally takes around 3 business days to get to the embassy. Forget NVC now and start calling DOS at 202-663-1225 x1, x0. They will be able to tell you if your package has been received at the embassy. Call them once a day until they receive it.

Actually, for those who wish to try tracking, I'll point you to this thread that was posted several days ago.....

Middle East and North Africa$$ for weddings
We just got married Feb 9. We travelled to Stowe VT and had a civil wedding there. Although we (five of us) live in VA, we travelled (drove) to VT so that my family could attend. Instead of staying with family members, we found a nice Bed & Breakfast inn that had a special "Elope in VT" package rate that included the room, wedding ceremony (including license), and little special things (champagne, chocolates, flowers) for the bride & groom. We ordered a lovely wedding cake and treated (paid for) dinner prepared by the inn for the attendees.

I own a tuxedo, so I wore that. My wife bought a beautiful, moderately priced wedding dress. She (and her daughter) got their hair done at a local shoppe the morning of the wedding.

Although the philippine family (wife & kids) had seen snow in their short time in the US, they had never seen the 2 ft accumulation that VT had. It snowed the day of our wedding, which made for a beautiful setting outside.

It would be hard to breakout the costs seperately, but combining a family visit with the wedding was part of the planned economy. We came in on Friday, got married Sat, and returned on Sunday which made it hectic but obviously more economical. All together, the cost was about $2500-3000.

I need help from all you members .

Well, frankly I'd send them a copy of YOUR passport, which establishes your US citizenship. I'd also write them a letter and point out the difference in the names they requested from yours, and the fact that you've never been married.

Perhaps this is too simple and straightforward?

Q's 10 and 11. Your lawyer may have a contact at USCIS that has more access than the misinformation line folks do but there is no "attornies only" phone line to call or trick to use.

Yes they do have access to individuals at the service center that self-petitioners do not have.

I agree with Rebeccajo with a little more specificity. During the processing of my ex-wife's paperwork (AOS) we hired an Immigration Attorney. During periods for extended delays and/or problems, he occasionally referred to discussions he'd had with the AILA liason to USCIS. I was convinced that there was a special person, if not "back door" for AILA members to get information, at least. They probably couldn't speed up the process any, but might get a human to discuss things with.

I also found this link on the AILA website, which would suggest the same thing. http://www.aila.org/...spx?docid=10309
