Thank you for the information. Thankfully, I will be moving into our first house together in April and will be busy setting that up for when that glorious day arrives. My fiance and I were just saying today that last Valentine's Day seems like yesterday....I was with him in England at the time. Funny how time can seem so fast and so slow simultaneously!

Hi folks! Sorry if the answer to this is buried somewhere within a thread.

Does anyone know if the Online Case Status page is updated in "real time" or is it updated once daily. Just wondering because I find myself (probably like many others) statusing my case several times a day....hoping against hope that it is updated...lol.

Also, are the text/email alerts sent out in a timely manner. I see some people are alerted and some people aren't. Just wondering if it is a reliable source of info.

Thanks for you input and help!

United KingdomAnticipating the move

To me, this is the most nerve wracking part of the whole process.  He is coming with his 12 year old son and I want him to have as much with him from England as he cares to bring.  The down part is that most of what he values is glassware that he has collected over the years. (He's from Sunderland).  I suppose that will be packed in a carry on but knowing how stressful the trip in itself will be for them, I'd like to make that part as easy as possible.

We have time, but I'd like to be prepared....

Good point....scarey picture!!!  And to pay for the extra bag is probably cheaper by far.  Although the airlines are probably just as rough as the cargo ships!  lol

United KingdomAnticipating the move

Hi follks.  While we are patiently awaiting the NOA2, I was wondering if anyone had some advice regarding shipping belongings to the US from England.  My fiance has been sending boxes over from time to time but I was wondering if it would be cheaper and safer to have an international mover help.  We don't want to spend a fortune, but there are some belongings he would like to have here and not be smashed by the postal service.  He won't be sending large items (furniture) but more like personal momentos.

Thanks for your help!

Thank you for your responses.  Sounds like the wire transfer is going to be the safest way to go.

Thank you....when you go through customs, do they ever question you about money being carried in?  We've been foolish enough to use the postal service, and that didnt work out too well!  Thankfully, if was a small amount but it did get me thinking about the safest way to transfer our money.

United KingdomBringing financial assets to the US

Hi folks,

Just wondering what is the best way to transfer UK bank accounts over to the US.  I would think a wire transfer of funds but are there penalties or taxes when doing so?   Is it best to move smaller amounts at a time?  I just want to be prepared for that wonderful day!

Thanks for your input!

United KingdomHow does medical condition affect visa

That experience was probably the most helpless feeling I have ever felt.  But, I guess if it was to happen, the timing was right.  Hopefully, it will just be a blip to us looking back!

(Just goes to show that we all should be aware of stroke symptoms...if may save a life !)

United KingdomHow does medical condition affect visa

Thanks Nich-Nick.  I had read this before and interpreted that we should be ok.  Paul said there will be no problem documenting his treatment, recovery and meds.  It was a stroke as opposed to a TIA....but miraculously, in my opinion, there is no weakness or cognitive issues.  The only issue which remains and I doubt people that meet him for the first time would notice is a hitch in his speech when he gets tired.

(When he had the stroke, we were actually skyping and I knew immediately what was happening...my dad was a stroke victim and you become well versed in signs and symptoms.  I was able to call his son via cell phone and he called the paramedic's.   We were blessed to have gotten help there within minutes)

United KingdomHow does medical condition affect visa

Thank you! And that is what I had thought also....getting his GP is hand over the details and such.

Funny (not really) how people with no clue about the immigration process are so quick to say "They will never let you in because you had a stroke".   Even though I did a bit of research and felt comfortable that we will be ok, if you hear enough folks put that out there, it kind of gets to you.

That's why this forum is so good.  So much info from people with experience! good.gif

United KingdomHow does medical condition affect visa

Thankfully, it was only his speech.....no weakness in his limbs and balance is fine.  He has a doctor's note that he is cleared to go back to work.  I imagine he can get his medical transcripts or a note from his doctor.  We certainly dodged a bullet healthwise, and hopefully, visa-wise too!

United KingdomHow does medical condition affect visa

Hi folks,

Just wondering how my fiancé's minor stroke will affect our visa application.  When he had a stroke in March, only his speech was slightly affected.   It's just about back to normal now thankfully.

There are people that have said to us that he will not get approved.  I did a little research and it seems like there are different levels of medical conditions that could affect the app....

There are some family members that are jealous that he is coming here and keep filling his mind with doubt.

Any input would be appreciated.   Thanks xx

United KingdomUpcoming interview.....nervous!

Well, finally the moment of truth.....interview on Thursday.  As excited as we are, both of us are worrying what could go wrong.  All the paper work is in order.   My finance had a mild stroke last year but had no lasting effects.  At the medical, the dr. said it is not a problem but did send him for additional heart and breathing tests which he passed.

He also had two blips on the police cert years ago.  A dui which the penalty was a small fine and no driving for a year.  He also had a battery charge which was dropped.

We are both in our fifties and we just want to get on with out life together.  I am adopting his 13 year old son when they arrive.

I guess nothing in life is guaranteed.....but praying for a good outcome.

Roll on Thursday!

Just a quick question: I called this morning and the tier 1 rep. had to transfer me to a tier 2 rep. to have access to my information. I know I may be grasping at straws but am hoping this is something positive.
I'm a November filer and have no problem standing in line with everyone else....but would love a little positive news!

The more time you spend on here the more that is reaffirmed.  He sat on our paperwork for about a month.  That's why its important for us to share this so others don't fall into that money pit.  I went into it with rose colored glasses thinking all would be right....boy, was I wrong!

I am just thankful we've found this forum and can move forward with the information here!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsStupid is as stupid does!

I finally got the hardcopy of the RFE in the mail....We hired an immigration attorney to handle all the paper work for us to avoid any unnecessary delays. HA!   This was months before I found this forum unfortunately.  Well, the RFE is for my fiancé's G-325A (the beneficiary).  We did fill this form out and I took it straight to the atty.  Assuming (HA) that the atty reviewed everything before the initial filing, I hoped that we wouldn't have had any delays.  But, I guess the 8 years of school and the two grand I paid, didn't ensure that everything was signed properly.  My fiancé had typed in his name on the signature line as opposed to signing.   Yes, I should have caught it, but more so our so called advocate should have caught it.

Let this be a lesson, do not pay someone to do something when you can surely do it yourself.  I am a little bit poorer today but a heck of a lot wiser.

Just reiterating was has been said a thousand times on here before, check your signatures even if an atty is hired!  I learned the hard way.

Thank you all for your input. It's always good when you are in an emotional state to solicit this kind of info. My employer is excellent as far as enrollment goes so I will be able to add my fiancee and future son. (Im going to adopt him since his mam died when he was 6 months old).

I'm trying to make flight arrangements to the UK now and be with them since right now that is the most important item on my plate.

Never a dull moment on this journey!

Thanks again (L)

Hi folks,

A quick question for you. My fiancee who lives in England had a stroke on Sunday. We are about 3.5 months into the process. I really would like to have him over hear for his therapy since he will be covered on my health plan. Is this a possibility to expedite our case? I don't mind waiting for our turn like the rest of us, but the situation has changed now. Thank goodness he is mobile but his speech had a long way to go.

Thank you all for your input.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresStarted K1 Process... Now trying to visit him in the UK for 6 months. Need advice!

I don't know if this of any help or not.  The first time I went to England before we were even engaged, I was held at the Manchester airport by immigration.  They happened to be training a new customs official and I have a feeling I was an "example".  I had my return ticket and such so there was nothing shady other than meeting my boyfriend.  They ended up running a security check and whatever they do behind the mirrored wall, and two hours later they stamped my passport with a six month visa!   Would have been nice but I only stayed a week!

I would contact the British embassy and see what they recommend so you don't have to go through what I did...best wishes!!!!
