Hi everyone, I am looking for info to help a friend. they are starting their visa journey and I have refered them to this site for help but I am looking for an online support group for them. I joined one with other US citizens married or dating Nigerians, to get insight into cultural differences. I am looking for a similar group for my freind. His partner is from Romania. Any suggestions would help, I have tried searching and have come up empty handed.

Check with SAPS in Pretoria if getting it from outside the countryis available, I know they require you to go to police station with passport to be fingerprinted on a special card with all your info to get it if you are there.  This link has their contact info.  http://www.saps.gov.za/

Ok maybe a silly question but I am a detail freak, have to know it exactly or I panic. Both the interview and the medical require 2 pasport type photos. So does my fiance need a total of 4 or can he use the same 2 at both?

Best I know is right now it will slow thngs down and if it keeps going will shut them down. Part of the funding is not from the bills they are fighting over signing right now.  They have 2 year funds, no year Funds and the fees paid to keep them going for a little while, but slower because they will cut hours to try to keep going longer. Supposedly.

We just did the police clearance getting ready for the interview, you dont have to wait for the packet to get it. My fiance just went to local police station and they put his info on a card and then his fingerprints on the card. They can send to Pretoria for you or you can take it. He just took it up himself. Took less than 2 weeks to get back.  The birth certificate I don't know about. Mine got his sent to him from home in Nigeria. We knew when I filed the petition so we started on that and the police clearance from Nigeria.

I have found good ticket prices on www.travelstart.co.za, I will need to check out the other ones listed. Also for the visa fee it is paid the day of the interview, either credit card or US cash. If the money is $100 bills cant be older than 2003 and no marks on it.  The fee is $240. Hope this helps.

On the Johannesburg Consulate info it lists a form, DS-2001 that is the Applicants Readiness.  We thought packet 3 could be emailed back to the conuslate, is that true including this form? Can only find a version from 2002 that says it needs to be signed and mailed back.  Cant find anything else on any of the sites for this form.

Africa: Sub-SaharanIn SA with work visa, interviewing for K1

We had similar questions and called the consulate. What we were told is if they have anything that currently allows them to be in SA legally it can be accepted. BUT it is at the discretion of the CO.

Well our K-1 is finally approved!!  The Joburg consulate was waiting for an email reply from the Nigerian National Population Commision to verify his birth certificate.  Now the last minute plans are underway.

I have an off topic question, anyone in the Joburg area know where we can find vanilla extract with no ethanol? Found a brand online called Vanilla Man but cant find it in any shops. Trying to get some for my aunt who is doing my wedding gown.

Thank you!!

Would you share the name of your lawyer? Since they are already familiar with the document needed, we would feel assured it would be solid.  Also we have no idea as to the typical cost for this service. I will send a friend request if you would rather answer in private message.  Thank you so much. And a few more questions if you don't mind.

Was your husband there for the child's medical and/or interview? Or did someone else take the child?

Is the mother required to attend the interview or just submit the papers?

Which place did you use for the medical for the child and was was the cost?

That is great info. Now where do we get the  verbiage, how is it court approved and sealed??   Do we need a lawyer to draw it up and take it thru court? Does the consulate have a template? \it will be a few months yet, they are just now working on transfering the file from South Africa where he interviewed to Lagos for her interview. Thank you so much for the specific info.

We have emailed the Lagos consulate but they have not responded. does anyone have any experianece with this?

National Visa Center (Dept of State)WOW!! NVC CASE NUMBER IN 10 DAYS!!

Ok why would a case undergo Admistrative processing?  That is happening to our K-1 visa right now. Another post said because the que to process is lagged behind. But if others are going out that were received AFTER ours, what is going on?  There is nothing I can think of that would cause a problem.

Oh Sharkano if that was only true 100% of the time.  Right now alot of K-1's are in AP at NVC and can take up to 8 weeks after being received from USCIS. I have spoken to them several times, "Sorry no timeline"  The very nice lady I spoke to last night said in her long time experience AP is because they are behind and usually takes 2-3 weeks. But that was just a personal opion. LOL, well if she has been there long I choose to believe her. We are at 2 weeks at NVC also.

Oops. What i meant was since it said "At NVC" yesterday and 2hrs later "In transit"  and then went to Ready, NVC does not make things happen for people and so just made a comment that may be NVC people might be reading this forum and decided to help people for a change. Thats all. Did not mean anything offensive.

No prob, that's why I asked before getting hurt. luv.gif

I am just wondering if people from NVC are looking at these forums. :-) Congrats anyway! :-)

Congrats anyways?  I am sorry but I think I may be taking the context of you message wrong because it feels offensive. What is there in my posts that would be alarming or offensive to NVC? or you?  Unlike some other members on here I haven't even said an unkind word about the stress caused by their rudeness or lack of information.

Did you happen to receive an email notification from NVC when your case shipped?  We have been there for 8 days so far.

No we didnt, I checked it last night on the CEAC site and said At NVC.  Just for giggles checked 2 hours later and wow, In Transit. Now today has gone to Ready.

WOOHOOO!!  Now says Ready, how is that?  Was it sent electronically too? Can we start bugging the consulate for packet 3? LOL, have been seeing it takes 2 weeks to get interview letter for an appointment 4 weeks later at Johannesburg, south Africa consulate, from time packet 3 is sent back. Just trying to shave off every day of wait I can.

Thank you everyone. I thought I had it all down and now that we are waiting for the interview, it has all just flown right out of my head. lol It really threw us off because we werent expecting our NOA2 for another 6 weeks or so. Now we are trying to get it all finalized.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI 134 Question

Ok so I think I saw this somewhere but for the life of me cant find it again.  Does my fiance need the original signed I 134 and all original supporting documents? Or can I scan them to our shared cloud for him to print out?  Many of the copies he needs from K1 petition we are doing this way so I only have to ship the originals. Trying to keep it as light as possible. lol save some pennies.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionIn South Africa on Expired Visa

Ok, so spoke to a very nice man at the consulate. Explained the whole thing to him. Answer is this, if the receipt says legal status, we are ok. If it doesn't we just need a letter from Home Affairs that says the receipt is legal status.  And to top it all, Home Affairs gave him a Temporary Seeker of Asylum while they processed this so he has a legal permit if stopped. So we are good. The asylum permit is enough for legal status to get a US visa. To be honest if we had known that we would have just gone with that and not spend 4000R on the other permit. Since he will be leaving in a month anyways. ugh.

AND... the very nice man said yes things are going slow getting into the NVC database, if no case number next week call him back he will get them to find it and get it entered for him.  WOOOOOOW!!!  Are you kidding me? Someone offering to help beyond what you are asking for? And we were so prepared to sit back and wait the 4-5 weeks everyone is waiting.  Next Thursday is 4 weeks so I think instead of causing possible delays to people around us we will wait until at least 5 weeks before we call in that favor.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionIn South Africa on Expired Visa

Yeah, I know it is what we are talking about right now, he is convinced it is the only thing to do. I am trying to tell him most likely we will be denied. Too many red flags for Lagos but he insists is the only thing to do.  Because even tho the SA government considers him a legal resident the US wont. All because of the previous comment on here.  I dont know what to do, I guess send the email to change consulates and hope it isn't the final nail in our coffin

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionIn South Africa on Expired Visa

I am also from Nigerian living in pretoria and i got my CR1 visa last august, your husband must have a valid residence permit prior to his interview date, if not, he will be asked to wait until his residence permit is ready before he can go to Joburg for his interview or attend the interview nand get denied. The US embassy requires all temporary residents to have a valid residence permit before they can apply for any type of US visa.

Ok so, since they seem to be dragging their feet on this resident permit and we don't know how long it will be to get it. Would be be better , and able to, transfer his interview to Nigeria and he just go home for the interview?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionIn South Africa on Expired Visa

My fiance is from Nigeria but currently lives in South Africa. His original visa has expired but is waiting for the new one and has a receipt showing so. Home Affairs South Africa told him it gave him legal status to be there until the visa is renewed or denied.  If it has not been issued or has been denied will this be a problem at his interview for his K1 visa to the US?

Our NOA2 was Aug 22, So I am hoping for an interview early October for him. Am Very upset things might upset all that we have taken great pains to make sure was perfect.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussioneveryone

We talked about where and when to marry. We decided on the US instead of Nigeria or South Africa so that the one last living parent, my father, could be there. So that is the answer, and no my father cannot travel to Nigeria or South Africa because he is going thru chemo therapy and radiation for cancer.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview Papers

Ok, quick question. At the interview for a K-1 Fiance Visa, do they keep the original receipts (matching the copies sent to USCIS), supporting evidence for I-134 and evidence of on going relationship?

Just need to know because doing a child's K-2 at a differnt consulate. Need to know how many copies of each. Dont want to over print and kill too many trees innocent.gif , also keep the shipment of papers as small as possible.
